From the analysis I don't favor the chances of immediately fighting him. And, from what he said I don't believe that he would take well to the main character telling him to pull it together. However, the previous insults to the MC (a noble, however destitute), doesn't lead to me thinking that the protagonist would sit down and begin empathizing with him.
As such, let us shelve any serious talk for sobriety in the morning:
