They/Them
In the year 2148, explorers on Mars discovered the remains of an ancient spacefaring civilization. In the decades that followed, these mysterious artifacts revealed startling new technologies, enabling travel to the furthest stars. The basis for this incredible technology was a force that controlled the very fabric of space and time.

They called it the greatest discovery in human history.

The civilizations of the galaxy call it... MASS EFFECT.

Species: Human

[ ] Gender: Male
[ ] Gender: Female

[ ] Name: John Smith
[ ] Name: Jane Smith
[ ] Name: Write In

[ ] Background: Survival of Experimentation
As a child, you were the victim of involuntary experimentation in your youth, with the goal of stripping away the old you and turning you into a weapon. It could have had the goal of turning you into a super soldier, a biotic god, or even a genius tech engineer. Whether or not the program succeeded, you've escaped. Recently.

[ ] Background: Colonist to Soldier
You grew up on Elysium, one of Earth's first offworld colonies. You were a teenager during the Skyllian Blitz, where you were inspired to join the Alliance as soon as you turned 18. You have finished basic training and have just been assigned to your first mission.

[ ] Background: Write in

[ ] Starting Location: Omega
Omega is a major hub of narcotics, weapons, and eezo trafficking without even a pretense of civilian government or military control. Only mercenary groups have been able to instill a limited order; the most ruthless is an asari syndicate run by the notorious Aria T'Loak. No sane person chooses to go to Omega, it's the kind of place you go to when you have no where else to go. Omega is a brutal, bloody world where might makes right and there is only one law. But where chaos reigns, opportunity follows.

[ ] Starting Location: Illium
Don't be fooled by the glass and the glamor, Illium is nearly as corrupt as Omega. If you believe the "official" story, Illium is not an asari world; it was simply colonized and operated by asari corporate interests. This gives it the same legal latitude enjoyed by the human corporate research enclaves of Noveria. Originally developed to developed to serve as a trade world, the normally strict regulations on product safety, proscribed materials, and sapient trafficking are heavily relaxed. Visitors to Illium are advised never to sign anything.

Info Post
Rules, Stunts, Techniques, Characters, etc
Updates: Every Other Sunday (or as spoons allow)
Voting Closes: Every Other Wednesday

Rules: A Somewhat modified version of FATES/Dresden Files, heavily based on @MMKII and @Paperclipped LotRoL's iteration of Fated to Die (which is, in turn, @eaglejarl and @Velorien's iteration of of FATES)

Alex Clarke's Character Sheet: [found here]

The "winning plan' will not always be the one implemented. Thread discussion will be taken into account, meme votes will be cast aside, and things will pass through the in-character-filter for editing. Please try to keep the plans down to small lists of a few bulletpoints and subbulletpoints, and include actionable instructions. Keeping things relatively simple and straightforward (as much as can be done in a universe with space magic, aliens, action, and intrigue!) is important to make sure that everyone can participate.

A word of caution: This AU has truly significant changes from canon, so be careful relying on OOC knowledge in any way. Worldbuilding details will arise organically through the story updates, via Q&A in thread, or via interludes (which are not always necessarily going to be actionable information to the player characters!).

Special thanks to:

@MMKII, @Paperclipped, @eaglejarl, @Velorien, and you, the players.

kakashi...what are you doing here?

Oh, and feel free to submit write ins for names and backgrounds!

I'll let you if a background is nonviable (no Krogan-Raised Human Battlemasters, unfortunately), but don't feel pressured to pick from the listed options.

what can I say...I want to build a super bio-tech sword (biotics + technology) and name it Exalibur or Caliburn....

i would like to take advantage of the experiment background to have an excuse to have the skills to create it...and create a melee knight build in a space shooter game.

@RandomOTP is this vote a plan vote or is each catagory being voted vor independtantly? Also, uhh, what's up with the 'Jutsu' part of the first post? Is this a ME X Naruto quest?

I can definitely get behind the idea of out asari-commandoing the asari-comandoes. Eezoexcalibur here we go!

Also @RandomOTP I'm pretty sure "Race: Human" should be "Specie: Human" especially in a sci-fi.

I'm hoping this is a realistic character for the setting. No one especially special, but still someone with potential and a dream. Could be biotic or an engineer or whatever as well.

Though I'd also dig some freaky experimental biotech/mechanical human-weapon with reaper/geth-tech gown/implanted inside. Maybe a human who can directly interface and dominate computer systems? Something like an intuitive sentinel class, mixing biotics and technological prowess but from a native sense, not an educated or trained sense.

Anyone else dig something like this?
Big transhumanist vibes, lots of room in such a character for trying to find and rediscover what humanity means for such a being, with interesting possiblities for deciding upon a new form of humanity, or deciding to abandon it alltogether.

EDIT: Though I suppose that's not at all mutually exclusive with space-excallibur.

And I'm happy to have you!

This is AU-Mass Effect, so canon knowledge would be vaguely dubious, anyway.

Feel free to ask for information if you have any questions, I'll do my best to answer (though some answers may be OOC, meaning the PC can't act on it).

Welcome to the quest! ^.^

That is certainly an option >:3
Also, welcome to the quest!

I'd planned on each category being voted for independently, but if you want to lump your votes into an action plan, that's fine with me.

There aren't many votes this time around, but we'll probably to Plan Voting next session (which is when we'll be building the character sheet).

As for the "jutsu," that's because I borrowed the Info Post layout of a different quest to help organize the information. Thanks for the reminder, I went ahead and swapped it out for "Techniques."

Also: welcome to the quest! :)

Ah, so it is. Corrected!

It is, indeed, a realistic character ^.^

Glad to have you, by the way :D

I'll move the curtain a little bit and say that reaper tech was not part of the experiment (regardless of your PC build), and that (to your PC's knowledge) no one is experimenting with Geth-human biotech.

Biotics [and Engineering] are both doublecost skills (meaning it takes 2 Skill Points to level up, rather than one).

Edit:
In the effort of full transparency: Biotic/Tech is a viable build, but it may lead your PC to be fragile in the beginning.

These are all viable votes, and I'm glad to see you here!

This is also a viable vote! ^.^

It is brilliant to see this. I can't tell you how delighted I am that our rules (mine and @Velorien's) are being used by others, and I hope you'll improve them based on the mistakes you've seen us make.

I know literally nothing about Mass Effect aside from that it's a video game (a shooter, I think?), so I can't contribute much to character creation, but I'll be curious to see where the quest goes. I know it will be great.

@RandomOTP Yeah I was hoping this vote at least would be independant catagories, because there are only a few options in each catagory, and most of the votes so far are slightly different formulations, so I don't think the plan format will be best here. If there was support for it, would you be open to a write-in background for a reaper/human biotech experiment? Or are you set on any kind of escaped experiment beign the one you've proposed?

Additionally, if the experiment background does win, will the vote for what kind of experiment be done subsequently? Or do we need to vote for the kind of experiment now? I prefer the former, personally.
