Hey all, Allansfirebird here - welcome back to EVA-Trek!
Before we kick things off, I wanted to announce that season two will officially premiere on March 14th! Production is successfully on track to maintain a weekly release schedule for all sixteen episodes of the season, so the season finale drops by the end of June.
It's been a couple months since the season two trailer dropped in the season one thread, so I thought I would give y'all a new little short story that acts as a bit of a "what Nerv did on its summer vacation" tale. Hopefully, this will tide everyone over until next month.
Without further ado, let's boogie!
It was a nondescript room, tucked away in a forgotten corner of an equally forgotten building. An alert chimed from a console in the room, which was immediately silenced by the room's occupant. He was expecting the alert and clicked open the notification.
His monitor lit up, displaying an intelligence report. His operatives kept an eye on many places and starships in the fleet... but there was something of particular interest about this one to him:
The USS Nerv, hailed by many for their efforts to bring down the meddlesome old man of SEELE and Section 31 – Commodore Lorenz Kiel, had only recently left drydock. They'd spent nine months back on Earth for a refit after being nearly pummeled to oblivion by a gullible Starfleet which Kiel had manipulated into thinking they were the enemy.
But now, all these months later, Luther Sloan was back up at the top of Section 31, ready to ensure the agency under his charge kept the Federation secure. Part of that duty extended to regular... "check-ins" with what Nerv's crew had been up to during their furlough. And so, he clicked through the file...
Pertinent observation of USS Nerv crew over prior nine-month period is as follows:
Evangelion Pilots
Subjects have kept quiet. No significant events noted over period. All pilots, as well as the rest of their class, engaged in supplemental instruction due to inadequate lesson plans of prior teacher (now retired). Actions taken during periodic testing of Evangelion units aboard Nerv are classified as of this report. SFFoIA (2) petitions have failed with representatives of Daystrom-Hakone and Starfleet Security.
(Acting) Ensign Ikari, Shinji – Resided with paternal grandparents Shinichi and Akane Rokubungi at their restaurant and home – Rokubungi House. Worked as part-time kitchen staff.
Ensign Ayanami, Rei – Also resided with Ikari at grandparents. As per agreement with Starfleet Security, Ensign Ayanami has kept her nature as [REDACTED] a secret. No incidents recorded of subject using or displaying powers in public.
Lt. J.G. Soryu, Asuka L. – Attained domicile in Kanagawa, near same block as Rokubungi House. Observed interactions between subject and Ensign Ikari of intimate nature. No other incidents on file.
Crewman Nagisa, Kaworu – Also attained lodging in same building as Soryu. No incidences on file violating Nagisa's agreement to also keep [REDACTED] powers and background a secret. Subject strongly resembles deceased younger brother of Nerv Chief Engineer, Ryoji Kaji. No further details hereby available; investigation ongoing.
Crewman Aida, Kensuke – Temporarily moved back to Japan with father during Nerv refit. Father on temporary assignment with Daystrom-Hakone as liaison for Akagi, R. No significant incidents noted.
USS Nerv Crew
Most of ship's crew extended privileges of shore leave. List of transfers to other vessels available on file. Cursory inspection shows no reasoning requiring redaction from official record. Details for special surveillance follows:
Captain Ikari, Gendo – Pronounced deceased on Bridge of USS Nerv as of Stardate 49334.3 (3). Body cremated and interred in Rokubungi family grave in Kanagawa.
Commander Fuyutsuki, Kozo – Remains in a coma at Starfleet Medical due to brain damage incurred on Stardate 49199.9 (4). No signs of Subject recovering as yet. Active tap on medical condition scans is being maintained per Control directive.
Captain Katsuragi, Misato – Subject promoted and granted command of Nerv as of Stardate 49502.2. No record of Katsuragi taking appreciable amount of shore leave at any period during Nerv's refit. Senior officers have attempted to convince Subject to take time off, to no success. Longest periods have been day trips to Rokubungi House in Kanagawa and visiting apartment and mother in San Francisco.
Commander Akagi, Ritsuko – Subject elevated to ship's First Officer as of Stardate 49502.2. Has worked on research regarding extracting human lifesigns from the following Evangelion units: Hakone, Kyoto, and Matsushiro. Results inconclusive. Subject and girlfriend (Lt. Ibuki, M.) have taken several vacations together at locations around Earth, including visits to Rokubungi House.
Lt. Commander Kaji, Ryoji – Subject has evaded surveillance for the entirety of Nerv's refit. Only incidents on file are recovery of data chip containing secret SEELE files previously loaned to Subject. No known copies outside of secure holding exist. Investigation on subject ongoing... but results are not anticipated.
Lt. Commander Amagi, Hitomi – Subject has worked with Dr. Akagi on her research into Evangelion recovery. Nerv's CMO has assumed primary care for all members of Nerv's crew during ship's refit. Shore leave period included extended stay in apartment in Kyoto with several visits to family's grave.

Subject has also been in contact with extended family in Manzar Colony.
Lt. Aoba, Shigeru – Subject mainly stayed aboard Nerv during refit, spending considerable time training new security staff assigned to the ship. Security department took heaviest losses during assault on the ship that also claimed Captain Ikari's life. Surveillance notes Subject at no time contacted parents. Additional investigation shows no attempts in nearly a decade.
Lt. Komi, Meika – Subject used shore leave to tour multiple archeological sites around Earth. Medical records note Subject has lingering issues with injuries incurred during incident now recorded as "the Battle of Earth." No other notable incidences on file.

Lt. J.G. Kitakami, Midori – Subject has continued in position of Nerv's Operations Chief, obtaining promotion to Lieutenant Junior Grade on Stardate 49502.2. Several incidents noted in file of fights and near-insubordination from Subject's quick temper. No significant problems noted on record since fight at space station Deep Space 9 on Stardate 49012.1 (5).
Lt. J.G. Tama, Hideki – Subject also promoted as of Stardate 49502.2. Has been observed with LJG Kitakami in multiple social situations aboard ship and during shore leave on Earth. No other incidents on file.
Known Associates of Evangelion Pilots aboard Nerv
Suzuhara, Sakura and Touji – Subjects and their father split time between house in Kanagawa and quarters aboard Nerv. Sakura continues pre-med training with Nerv CMO as well as a program to alter ship's Emergency Medical Hologram. Touji has been selected to participate in inter-ship triathlon in mid 2373 and has been observed spending considerable time in ship's gym training.

Kirishima, Mana – Subject and family are next-door neighbors to Aida family on Earth. Father also on temporary assignment with Daystrom-Hakone. Noted to have spent considerable time with Aida, K. Both have already begun preliminary work for future acceptance to Starfleet Academy.
Additional Comments
No other significant issues are to be reported for remaining crew aboard USS Nerv. Departmental debrief records show a near-unanimous desire to stay with the ship for all those who survived the Battle of Earth last year.
Reports of recent security issues at Daystrom-Hakone are currently under investigation. Leads indicate connections to former associates of Akagi, R and Katsuragi, M. Named subjects are not identified to be implicated in investigation. Report and recommendations to follow.
With that, Sloan reached the end of the report. He was somewhat disappointed the crew of the Nerv managed to keep their noses so clean during the previous months. If only because it meant there was nothing worth making an excuse to drop in on them.
That is, except Mr. Kaji. While it intensely fascinated Sloan that he managed to keep himself out of the eye of their fellow operators, it meant he was the one thing Sloan couldn't maintain oversight on. Sloan reasoned that he'd eventually crack that mystery, sooner or later.
However, there were more pressing matters on Sloan's mind now that he read the report. The security issues at Daystrom were particularly troubling, which meant he would need to take matters into his own hands. Sloan deactivated the computer terminal, and the room fell back into silence.
That is, except for the retreating footsteps of the occupant, which then seemed to vanish, leaving the forgotten room as ominously dark and vacant as it had been just minutes before.
