Euripides is one Greek I know of who viewed the Greek Gods much the way we do

Euripides saw most of the Greek Gods as fairly petty, much the way we do. Why did he?
If you look at his writing style, it was much more character focused, as opposed to the grand sweeping style of, say, Homer. Perhaps his greater focus on character and motivations for his writing, it may have brought his attention to analyzing the gods as characters in the stories, and thus overall.

Hesiod wrote about Prometheus being punished for assisting humanity. And Hesiod's writings on Prometheus are the oldest we have found.

Was he? Didn't Platonists criticize the Homeric picture of the gods for leading to immorality (due to their bad behavior) or am I misremembering something?
