[X] Kretal - ??? year old, Kreaxhl Queen. The Kreaxhl are best described as a bunch of insects with a hard-on for technology. Seriously, they treat that shit religiously to the point where their Matriarch is chosen based on whichever Queen can best "commune with the Machine Spirits" of their so called "God Ships". To the rest of the Galaxy, they're just big bugs with big ships and a knack for making some serious hardware. They really "age" since most of them keep themselves alive through the use of cybernetics. According to the dossier, Kretal actually volunteered for the job. She wants to try to "commune with a being from on high" such as yourself in preparation for being made a Matriarch. You're not sure how comfortable you are with having your Partner be this religious, but at least you'll someone who can upgrade you on a day to day basis.
The doc raises an eyebrow as you make your selection, but doesn't say anything more. She takes the dossier and hands it to Carter, "Well, you heard the AI, Carter. If it wants the bug lady it gets the bug lady."
"You can't be serious?!" Carter looks at the dossier as if they're holograms. He probably thinks this is all a dream that he'll wake up any minute.
After a few minutes of staring with his mouth open, he realizes that this is real.
At that point the doc gets behind him and starts to push him towards the door, "Satisfied Carter? Now, if you'll excuse me, I've got a few adjustments to make before they're ready."
"Ready? For what?" Carter tries to push back against the doc, but her cyborg strength beats his out."
"For when you show them off. Like you said, you need something to 'give the people something to rally behind.' Well, that's what I've given you," she pushes him out of the door by this point. She places a hand on the wall console while waving at Carter, "I look forward to hearing your speech."
"Wait—Don't—," the door hisses shut in Carter's face a moment later. You hear a beeping sound, followed by red lights showing up on the door console.
The doc turns back towards you, sighs, then starts walking over to the computer on your right side, "Sorry about that. Carter is a bit of jerk."
"No, really? I didn't notice," you say sarcastically, mentally preparing yourself for more additions to your code, "I thought that was just how he acted towards all new people he meets."
"Hah, hah," Monson laughs while tapping away at the console. Her voice takes on a more caring nature when she speaks again, "And what about you? How are you feeling?"
"I feel like someone's rooting around in my brain. If it wasn't for the fact that you created me, and that you're one of the only decent people I've seen so far, I'd probably be going all hostile takeover on you," you let what you said sink in for a few seconds. Then you and doc start to laugh at your joke.
The doc giggles a bit more, before suddenly getting somber and serious, "But really, how are you? I know it can't be easy. Suddenly learning that you're going to be forced to work with someone you don't know, that the whole galaxy will be counting on you to keep them safe...it can't be easy."
[] "What are you talking about? Things'll be fine! You worry way too much, doc!"
[] "Will admit, it does seem a little daunting. Don't suppose it's too late to find a replacement do you?"
[] "It really shouldn't be me, doc. I don't know the first thing about battle! I haven't even punched anyone yet! I don't even have fist yet!"
The doc finishes up whatever it is she's doing, and walks over to your face. She smiles, but her eyes betray what she really feels.
Sadness, pride, and guilt.
"Almost done", she says while tapping at her Link again, "Just one more thing. Though your frame will be a personal one, you can customise how it looks and what weapons you have. Unfortunately, we won't have enough funding for you to be picky with what you get. So, I've made up four different focuses that we can put in for. Which do you prefer?"
As the menu comes up in front of you, you look over each option:
[] Melee Focus - You want to be up close and personal! Get stuck in with the rest of 'em!
[] Ranged Focus - You'll just stand back and fill 'em full of holes. It's what guns are for, right?
[] Drone Focus - Why even have to endanger yourself? Let your smaller, less advanced brethren do the fighting for you!
[] Speed Focus - You'll make small cuts, but those will add up.
The doc nods, before shifting the screen to different view, "Last thing then, what your Frame will look like. This won't have any bearing on your effectiveness in combat, but might affect how others react to you. But, it's you're decision in the end."
[] Write in Appearance...
Almost done with the prologue.
Just one last post after this.
