[x] The Battlesuit Frame

[x] Synthetic

Was interested in E-Metal, but figured I could vote for Synthetic since E-Metal's already got a few votes. Went with Battlesuit since we'd be partnered up anyway.

I'll give it until tomorrow, then I'll call it.

[x] The Battlesuit Frame - You'd be someone's freaking suit of armor. How does that not sound amazing? Not only could you go outside, but you wouldn't have to do all the heavy lifting! It be both you and your partner working together! Plus, you like the idea of blowing up battleships while being half their size! The downside is, you would need a pilot….unless they spring for the really expensive shit that lets you walk around on your own.
[x] E-Metal - You've got some records of this stuff. Apparently it's some kind of alloy discovered by the first alien race humans encountered in the Galaxy. Not much is known about it, except that it's rumored to be "magical." You doubt that.

Personal Frame and E-Metal it is.

Yeah, you like the idea of being a 7ft tall robot made out of "magical" metal. You can just imagine it now, you wading into battle and just watching as the rain of firepower just bounces off your invisible forcefield.

...As if that would happen.

Nah, just having some extra protection would be nice.

You make the selections and watch the images flit away from your eyes, "There, done. So, what was that about doc? Am I finally getting my own body? Cause to be honest, it kind of sucks just being inside a computer that can't move or anything."

Your creator chuckles while tapping away at her Link again. She brushes some hair that's fallen into her eyes out of the way before speaking, "Almost, there just one last thing I need you to—"

Carter appears and grabs the doc by the shoulders. His eyes are wild with panic, his voice trembling as he speaks, "Monson, don't tell me you've done what I think you have."

"Hey! Hands off the doc!" you shout, but you quiet down when the Professor waves her hand downward.

She calmly looks her friend in the eye before answering, "So what if I have, Carter?"

He lets her go and starts to pace around the room with his hands on his head, "You made a
sentient AI. Why?! Don't you remember what happened when the Technocracy tried that?! They call it the 'AI Collective War' for a reason! If I show this to anyone, the very first reaction will be 'Kill it with Plasma'!"

The doc is silent while her companion ends his tirade by standing in one place with his hands held loosely at his sides. His breathing is heavy and laboured, and some of his white hair has fallen out of his hat.

After a bit, the doc says, "Are you done?"

Carter, after composing himself replies, "Yes. Yes I am."

"Good," the Prof walks around to one of the many desk in the dark blue room. From there, she picks up three manilla folders that have "important documents" written all over them. She walks back over to you and holds them out in front of you. She talks to Carter as she moves, "If you think I didn't know that when I first started this Project, you don't know me as well as I thought you did, Carter. I know what the general public's reaction will be if we present them an AI with Free Will as their saviour. Mass hysteria, witch hunts, and a call for my creation's immediate termination."

"Everything you just said, sounds pretty bad to me," you say while the doc approaches, "Are people that scared of a computer program like me?"

"We had to fight a Collective of them that was bent on total annihilation of all organics for over a decade, so yes," is the reply given to you by Carter.

The doc shoots him a look before turning back to you, "Thankfully, I've come up with a solution. A Partner. Someone who will work in tandem with you and vice versa. This should assuage some of the public's fears. If you can prove that a Sentient AI such as yourself can efficiently work with an organic, we might be able to undo years of prejudice and hatred.

To that end, I have compiled three dossiers of potential candidates. I want you to choose which one you will be most comfortable working with. Have a look," she opens up each of the folders and places them down in front of your visual sensors.

Before you look them you ask, "Quick question; Are any of them below the age of 16?"

"Of course not. Who in their right mind would have an unstable child or teenager as the partner of a highly advanced AI?"

You inwardly sigh at that and look at your choices:

[] Katherine Boyd - 140 year old, Human Female. Good old Humanity. Hard believe they've come this far from their home planet. And without a single Civil War or war with one of the other races! That doesn't mean they haven't had their share of conflict of course. In fact, if you could describe this woman in one word, it would probably be "hardass". One of the first to join the military when it was still being formed, first to use the anti-aging treatments, fought in countless skirmishes against pirates and other space entities, commanded an entire fleet during the Collective Wars, and is still kicking and in the military to this day! This woman would definitely bring the needed military know-how, but she's has been known to be "unnaturally strict on her comrades".

[] Qant - 30 year old, Djat Male. Nicknamed "The Devil Dogs" by the Commonwealth, these guys are very similar to canines from Terra. Most of them are covered by some type of fur, have claws, tails, and are very friendly to almost everyone they meet. Doesn't mean they're pushovers though. They've been steadfast allies of the Commonwealth and have conquered about a fourth of the galaxy. This one apparently used to pilot a Frame back during the Collective War. He probably has some experience fighting alongside robots. However, he apparently has some issues with getting to know other organics.

[] Kretal - ??? year old,
Kreaxhl Queen. The Kreaxhl are best described as a bunch of insects with a hard-on for technology. Seriously, they treat that shit religiously to the point where their Matriarch is chosen based on whichever Queen can best "commune with the Machine Spirits" of their so called "God Ships". To the rest of the Galaxy, they're just big bugs with big ships and a knack for making some serious hardware. They rarely "age" since most of them keep themselves alive through the use of cybernetics. According to the dossier, Kretal actually volunteered for the job. She wants to try to "commune with a being from on high" such as yourself in preparation for being made a Matriarch. You're not sure how comfortable you are with having your Partner be this religious, but at least you'll someone who can upgrade you on a day to day basis.

Easily the most interesting choice.

Huh, new LinkOnScepter quest, cool.
Also, there was mentioned their were four dossiers but there only three options, was that a mistake or am I just being stupid?

That's a mistake on my part.

I'll go ahead and fix it real quick.

Edit: Ok, done.

The reason why there was four is because I was originally gonna add in a Male Human choice, but I decided against it.

The doc raises an eyebrow as you make your selection, but doesn't say anything more. She takes the dossier and hands it to Carter, "Well, you heard the AI, Carter. If it wants the bug lady it gets the bug lady."

"You can't be serious?!" Carter looks at the dossier as if they're holograms. He probably thinks this is all a dream that he'll wake up any minute.

After a few minutes of staring with his mouth open, he realizes that this is real.

At that point the doc gets behind him and starts to push him towards the door, "Satisfied Carter? Now, if you'll excuse me, I've got a few adjustments to make before they're ready."

"Ready? For what?" Carter tries to push back against the doc, but her cyborg strength beats his out."

"For when you show them off. Like you said, you need something to 'give the people something to rally behind.' Well, that's what I've given you," she pushes him out of the door by this point. She places a hand on the wall console while waving at Carter, "I look forward to hearing your speech."

"Wait—Don't—," the door hisses shut in Carter's face a moment later. You hear a beeping sound, followed by red lights showing up on the door console.

The doc turns back towards you, sighs, then starts walking over to the computer on your right side, "Sorry about that. Carter is a bit of jerk."

"No, really? I didn't notice," you say sarcastically, mentally preparing yourself for more additions to your code, "I thought that was just how he acted towards all new people he meets."

"Hah, hah," Monson laughs while tapping away at the console. Her voice takes on a more caring nature when she speaks again, "And what about you? How are you feeling?"

"I feel like someone's rooting around in my brain. If it wasn't for the fact that you created me, and that you're one of the only decent people I've seen so far, I'd probably be going all hostile takeover on you," you let what you said sink in for a few seconds. Then you and doc start to laugh at your joke.

The doc giggles a bit more, before suddenly getting somber and serious, "But really, how are you? I know it can't be easy. Suddenly learning that you're going to be forced to work with someone you don't know, that the whole galaxy will be counting on you to keep them safe...it can't be easy."

[] "What are you talking about? Things'll be fine! You worry way too much, doc!"

[] "Will admit, it does seem a little daunting. Don't suppose it's too late to find a replacement do you?"

[] "It really shouldn't be me, doc. I don't know the first thing about battle! I haven't even punched anyone yet! I don't even have fist yet!"

The doc finishes up whatever it is she's doing, and walks over to your face. She smiles, but her eyes betray what she really feels.

Sadness, pride, and guilt.

"Almost done", she says while tapping at her Link again, "Just one more thing. Though your frame will be a personal one, you can customise how it looks and what weapons you have. Unfortunately, we won't have enough funding for you to be picky with what you get. So, I've made up four different focuses that we can put in for. Which do you prefer?"

As the menu comes up in front of you, you look over each option:

[] Melee Focus - You want to be up close and personal! Get stuck in with the rest of 'em!

[] Ranged Focus - You'll just stand back and fill 'em full of holes. It's what guns are for, right?

[] Drone Focus - Why even have to endanger yourself? Let your smaller, less advanced brethren do the fighting for you!

[] Speed Focus - You'll make small cuts, but those will add up.

The doc nods, before shifting the screen to different view, "Last thing then, what your Frame will look like. This won't have any bearing on your effectiveness in combat, but might affect how others react to you. But, it's you're decision in the end."

[] Write in Appearance...

Almost done with the prologue.

Just one last post after this.

Heavy choices in terms of our personality, specialization and appearance. I'll wait for the smarter people to make their plans and then choose one of them.
