"Now sir...I need to warn you...we haven't fully finished the—"

"Monson, tell me, how far away was the last attack?"

"Um, well...the reports said—"

"I'm not asking about what the reports said. I'm asking you how far away was the last attack. You know the answer."

"....Exactly two sectors away, sir."

"And how many did we lose in that attack?"

"Counting both human and non-human casualties and factoring in the number of planets…..over 6 Trillion lives...sir."

"How many of those lives were military, Monson? How many of them were soldiers who were sent out with the 'best' we could offer them? How many of them did we lie to? How many thought they would come home safe and sound?"

"....."

"Tell me the truth. You know I can take it. I've been at this as long as you have."

"...Half of the total...Carter."

"Believe me, I know how you feel. I know you're all working hard and trying your best to make something that will finally give us an edge. But we're running out of time. Most of our skirmishes with these bastards have been loses. Even with the help of our alien allies, we're still struggling to hold them back. We're losing morale by the day. We need something for our people to rally behind."

"...But—it isn't—"

"Monson, I'm not asking you for a miracle. Just give me something. Anything. Please."

"....Come with me, Carter."

You awaken.

Well, that's not really accurate.

You technically don't "sleep" after all.

You just kind of...go off for a bit.

"Monson….what am I looking at?" Oh, there are people in the room with you!

Great! You've been wondering when the next time you'll get to converse with someone is!

In front of you stand two humans. The one on your left is taller than the other one. He's standing with his hands behind his back, and wearing a red and gold uniform that fits him nicely. The winged bird that symbolizes the military branch of the Human Commonwealth shines proudly on his chest. He has a hat that keeps most of his hair covered, but you can tell by the wrinkles on his face that he's very old. Though, you do have to wonder why he's like that. Wouldn't he have gotten the treatments at his age? Then again, there are some humans who like the idea of growing old at a "natural" rate.

"This is what you were asking for, Carter," that voice! It's Professor Monson! You were wondering when you'd see her again!

She holds out one of her metallic hands towards you, adjusting her monocle with the other. The clothes she's wearing are no doubt being simulated by her cybernetic body. However, no one would be able to tell that just by looking at her. Not unless they had processors like you do, or got a really good look at her from up close. In fact, you're pretty sure the only thing still organic about her are her heart and brain.

And her long, fuschia hair.

"Ok," the human named Carter says, shooting a look of unamusement at the Professor, "but what is it?"

You feel like you should speak up right now…

[] "Hello there Mr. Carter. Professor Monson. How are you today?"

[] "I have a name you know. And it's rude to talk about others when they're right in front of you."

[] "Sup doc? Who's this guy?"

[] Write in….

What?

I have a lot of ideas when I'm bored.

So yeah, this is a new Quest. My first Mecha Quest in fact.

To give a brief Description, you guys will be playing as a Sentient AI with the task of helping the Alliance defend itself from an extra-dimensional threat. To this end, you will be given a robotic body (what kind will be your choice later), and a pilot/partner to help you out (will also be your choice). The world idea I got from Stellaris.

This will primarily be a Narrative Quest, with very little focus on Numbers. However, I am taking a particular Mechanic from another game called Spellbound Kingdoms, which I recently bought. I will detail it more fully later, unless people ask me for a description early.

As for how "Anime" this Quest will be....that'll be a choice which will come up later.

This first choice will primarily affect your personality, and how you greet others. First Impression and all that.

Anyway, let's get started!

Alright, we know which one wins.

I'll make sure to get the next update in soon.

[X] "Sup doc? Who's this guy?"

One of Carter's eyebrows raises up at your response, "What did it just say?"

"I know you're old Carter, but you're not deaf yet," the Doc walks over to your right side until she's out of your field of view.

"Sorry," Carter says, start to pace in front of you, "It's just that last I checked, AIs couldn't be snarky."

"Well I must be an exception then," you say before feeling a jolt in the right side of your processors, "Doc, I thought I told you. Warn me before you start changing my code around!"

"And I thought I told you to deal with it," is the reply she gives you.

"How'd you like it if someone suddenly started messing with your cerebral cortex?"

You don't get an answer, just another jolt through your brain as another update to your data streams in. You don't think you're ever gonna get used to this.

Carter places fingers on the bridge of his nose, "Monson, please tell me this isn't really what you were trying to show me."

"Oh, sorry," you stay sarcastically, "Did I not live up to all of your lofty expectations?"

"Honestly, no. You don't," he replies bluntly before turning towards the Prof. You make an extra data cache and file him under "Shit-list" for the foreseeable future. Unfortunately, it is then deleted by your creator, who is currently rooting around in your brain.

Carter speaks, "I know I said I needed something, but...seriously? This?! If I wanted an AI, I could just go buy one from any planet! And I could get it customized! What makes this one any different?"

Rather than answer, your creator steps back into your field of vision. She stands in front of you and taps away on the Link installed in her head. After a few seconds, three pictures materialize in front of you. The white, cubic pixels that make them up dance and shake in the air before solidifying into discernible images. They seem to be different...bodies. Robotic bodies, or Frames to be exact.

Afterwards, the doc smiles and says, "Tell me, if you could be installed into any of these three, which would it be?"

"Monson, what are you doing?" Carter says from the right side, "It's just going to say whatever you've programmed it to….wait….what the fu—" Carter rushes over and skids into view, eyes wide with surprise.

Your creator remains calm, keeping her smile while holding the three pictures out for you.

You look between the three of them and choose…

[] The Super Robot Frame - There's just something really appealing about being a giant, fucking robot that can punch battleships in half. Unfortunately, that also makes you a pretty big target. And you won't be doing much outside of sitting in a hangar waiting for your pilot all day. Not to mention it would cost a very pretty penny to keep you up and running.

[] The Personal Frame - You would be given the equivalent of a humanoid robotic body. You be a few feet taller than normal humans, but you could at least walk around outside! Plus, it wouldn't be that expensive to fix you up if you got destroyed! But, then you wouldn't be able to get access to all the cool toys, and couldn't fight skyscraper sized beast either.

[] The Battlesuit Frame - You'd be someone's freaking suit of armor. How does that not sound amazing? Not only could you go outside, but you wouldn't have to do all the heavy lifting! It be both you and your partner working together! Plus, you like the idea of blowing up battleships while being half their size! The downside is, you would need a pilot….unless they spring for the really expensive shit that lets you walk around on your own.

After you make your selection, the pictures rearrange themselves into new images.

"And what about the metal? What do you want to be made of?"

[] Standard Titanium Metal - Cheap, easy to manufacture, and is still pretty reliable. Nothing really special about it though.

[] E-Metal - You've got some records of this stuff. Apparently it's some kind of alloy discovered by the first alien race humans encountered in the Galaxy. Not much is known about it, except that it's rumored to be "magical." You doubt that.

[] Synthetic - Now this...this stuff is really iffy. It's just recently been created, and not everyone knows it's full capability. If you take it, you'd be both a pioneer and a test dummy. Still....it could be pretty cool...

This will decide what Frame you will be put into when the Quest officially starts.

The Metal will also change around how the Quest goes, and what you can do. For example, choosing Battlesuit and Synthetic will basically turn you into a robotic version of a symbiote or the synthetic suit that Iron Man has.

Yeahhhhh no, I don't want any 'partner'. Chances are they'll be some snot nosed 14 year old hot shot pilot in whose hands the entire future is, for some fucking reason.

You're going to get a partner no matter what. However, I will let you choose them when they show up.

The One who Strangles Concepts to death, of course. But I've done enough shitposting. Good update and I look forward to where things go from here. <3
