Less than an day after the nuclear bombing of Nagasaki and the Soviet invasion of Manchuria all contact beyond the islands of Japan is lost, both japanese and foreign.
During the day it will be discovered that all the allied forces surrounding the country are gone, alongside all the bordering territories and their forces in mainland Asia.
Only the Japanese islands and what's left of the Japan Imperial Navy are counted.
Outside of their knowledge, the remains of their falling Empire have been transported to a new planet.
In particular, close to an continent just recovering from their own civil war.
