[X] Maki decided to keep the sword for herself, claiming the finder's keepers to her teammates. It was kinda cool and while not as flashy as her usual explosions, it was loot from a tomb of a dead king and that was what counted.
Hell no, we are not gonna be wielded by a normal person! We're a special sword and that means we need a special wielder! Why pick the MG option if we aren't gonna interact with them directly?

I can imagine it, and it just isn't as impactful as having someone inside the team itself double cross everyone else. Family being corrupted by the big bad is a Magical Girl cliche used for monsters of the week, while a MG being corrupted is an whole arc setter.Well, with the exception of Naomi's pawnshop owner acquaintance, by choosing the other options, you'll be corrupting a family member of one of the magical girls. Can you imagine the horror on the magical girl's face when they discover that their beloved family member has apparently become some kind of evil champion and it's all their fault. Well, it's an option.
Maki is somewhat more susceptible to the influence of the Ebon Lord than the other girls. Still more resistant than a vanilla human but the Ebon Lord's manipulations will just be more subtle.
