"What the hell am I doing with my life…?" Adrien sighed staring morosely into the water, unable to get back to sleep with all of the life energy humming in his veins and the burning memories of Lesser Dragon's death in his head. He'd chosen to summon another monster to burn off some of the energy and travel to the city under the cover of the dark early morning.
The Gilasaurus he summoned was friendly enough and didn't mind being ridden on, though it was weaker then Lesser Dragon had been so rather than letting it go off on its own he'd given it strict instructions. Stay in the forest out of sight and only take on a lone human if it must.
Far as he could tell it'd listened to him, he hadn't felt the transfer of power or the pain of its death yet. Didn't mean he felt much better about it or his entire situation. In less than a day he'd lost everything. His family, friends, and his job everything ripped away at the whim of some giant snake thing that wanted him to harvest souls for it.
He sighed pulling the Duel Gazer out of his pocket wincing, the glass had cracked from being in there during three bumpy rides, nothing else looked out of place but what did it matter? By the looks of things Duel Monsters didn't exist here so he had a highly advanced hunk of junk in his hands.
He looked over the edge of the pier contemplating letting it drop and possibly following in after it.
"I wouldn't Amigo." He yelped and jumped as a Latino man plonked his self-down next to him baiting a hook.
"….E-excuse me?" The man offered a grin.
"I wouldn't do it, coast guards riding by soon so they'll fish you out." Adrien blinked as he cast his line letting the reel click as it unwound.
"…Then why are yo-"
"The boat wakes up the fish who are hungry." He shrugged offering a hand "Antonio." Adrien blinked and hesitantly shook it.
"Adrien."
"Your name starts with an A to? We should find an Adam and Alex and start an A-Team boy band!" Adrien blinked baffled at his cheery demeanour and joke.
"I guess…"
"So my new Amigo, what brought you down here?" Adrien shrugged gazing out at the water eyes drawn to the shiny gold bobber.
"….I have lost everything." He finally sighed "Don't even have a roof over my head anymore, not really. Living in the forest out of a tent." Antonio winced taking a hand off his pole to pat his shoulder.
"Ouch, that's rough that little gadget have anything to do with it?" Adrien looked down at the Duel Gazer and slipped it back into his pocket.
"Naw, something I was working on before, a virtual reality….thing. can't tell much else I was in a really hush hush department and I'm not sure I could explain it if I tried." Antonio waved it off.
"No worries Amigo I understand. Ya gotta keep something close to your chest. You eaten lately?" On que Adrien's stomach growled.
"…Had a little Jerky…."
"That's not gonna hold you over. I got a in with a cart owner around here, help me de-scale and gut the fish I catch I'll cook you a nice fish breakfast."
"That's…." Adrien smiled. "That's really kind of you Antonio."
"Hey you need a little help, what's wrong in that?" They lapsed into a companionable silence with only the gentle lapping of the tide and distant calls of seabirds. For the first time since coming here Adrien finally let his self relax and put the thoughts of what he had to do out of his mind. Though a guilty thought gnawed on him, no matter how much he liked Antonio the Leviathan was going to consume him….

It was rather late in the afternoon when he and Antonio parted ways, they had talked rather aimlessly though it was informative. By telling Antonio how new he was to this city he was able to get a laundry list of places that sold clothes, food and other necessity's cheap and the names of some fishermen who'd happily let him help with their catches for a couple of bucks.
And he finally got a rundown of what a Nighlock was and who the strange suited people who killed Lesser Dragon was. According to Antonio Nighlock where inhuman demons who came from another plane that wanted to flood the world with toxic water created by human tears.
Hey he was serving a soul eating snake he couldn't really judge.
And the people who killed Lesser Dragon thinking he was one of the Nighlock? The Samurai Power Rangers.
This lead into a rather long history lesson (And impromptu fishing lesson as Antonio apparently hyped to fanboy about them gave him the rod so that his hands where free to animate what he was saying) about both the Samurai and Power Rangers in general. Teens and young adults given either tech or magic that made them incredible fighters so they can battle evil and monsters.
Adrien internally whimpered at the thought of fighting around a hundred Power Rangers in several different teams. Not to mention the local team of Rangers, had a life time of training behind them, and generations of Ranger's before them to refine weapons and techniques. He was really questioning the Leviathans wisdom in dropping him off here of all places, rather than somewhere without a local Ranger team.
He was also keenly aware he was down to three cards he hadn't summoned, or even dare look at. If he was lucky all three where monsters, but what the hell was he meant to do with just four or five monsters against teams of specially trained fighters. He sighed the deck holders on his belt feeling heavy (His Duel Disk was back at the cave, he wasn't in any condition to be duelling anyone though by the looks of it there wouldn't be anyone to duel as he'd seen no sign of anything Duel Monsters related).
He bit his lip glancing around for anyone nearby who would hear him before finally giving in "I ah…M-Master? I have a question?" He shivered at the uncomfortable feeling running down his spine, like he was a little mouse who'd made the mistake of squeaking in a sleeping lion's ear, and the lion was now contemplating if he was worth the effort to eat.
What is it my servant?
He gulped "I uhrm…W-Well I only have three monsters left, and if Lesser Dragon could be beaten so easily by these Rangers I'm going to struggle to get anything done."
You will have another Lesser Dragon soon. Adrien blinked confused, We are still connected to the Monster Realm, in a few days the card will establish a new bond with a new Lesser Dragon. Not the same creature as it's dead but still useful.
"Ok….But that doesn't change the problem I have with only having three more monsters left."
No it does not…Fine, I was saving telling you till you had proven your worth but you may need this ability sooner then I'd like. Some humans have particularly powerful souls, these souls can take the form of what was once called Ka. The Ka takes the form and ability's of monsters from the card game you love so much. By removing the soul of a human who has a Ka you can then transform the soul into that monster.
Adrien sighed heavily "not only am I killing people but turning them into monsters…"
The monsters created from humans still retain memory's and personality. Just….Modified a little to be loyal and obey you.
"…Why should I trust you, you've already lied to me once." He winced as his head was filled harsh echoing laughing.
That's up to you. I deceive you only when it will serve me better then telling the truth. What I need is souls and life force, you are my servant for gathering it and will serve your purpose better with good tool's at your disposal.
Adrien sighed "…One last question, t-then I'll stop bugging you."
Good, speak.
"….Antonio….Is his soul strong enough that if I was forced t-?"
His soul is strong enough to have a Ka yes. And make no mistake servant the only humans I'll tolerate you not feeding me are those who become monsters.
"…Understood….Master…" Adrien sighed as the oppressive feeling of the Leviathan in his mind faded back into the background "…I just made friends with a guy and I'm contemplating turning him into a monster…My life's a fucking mess."
"Then allow me to mess it up farther!" Adrien yelped as he was grabbed by both arms shell shocked as the strange creatures (who didn't have eyes and whose mouth seemed to take up the entirety of their faces). He dimly realized that they were Moogers and that he was staring down a laughing Nighlock.
Ironically the demon was serpentine in nature, though fused with a lashing scorpion tail and killer looking claws.
"…let me guess your names a pun relating to poison, or biting….or snakes." The Nighloc hissed.
"Oh come now human, Fangtom only wants to share some…Toxic love." He purred.
"….Even if I swung that way the fangs are kind of off putting." Adrien said flatly pulling against the Moogers wondering if he could mentally call for Gilasaurus to come save him "…And one of the Villains from Ninjago is called Fangtom your stealing the name."
"Nin-what go?" the Nighloc blinked (How was beyond Adrien as neither snakes nor scorpions HAD eyelids) "Whatever, not like it matter, my poison will leave you in such misery that the Sanzu river will break its banks!" The stinger tail rose up and Adrien flinched closing his eyes.
"BARRACUDA BLADE!" The Nighloc screamed in pain as its tail was struck between the chitin plates, both Fangtom and Adrien staring as the tip held on by only a stubborn strand of viscera.
"You…You…YOU'LL PAY FOR THAT RANGER!" The Mooger's dropped Adrien who took the initiative to get the hell out of there as the Gold Ranger and Nighloc traded blows. Unfortonatly the Mooger's also took notice of their fleeing prey.
Adrien cursed running down an ally throwing boxes and trash can lids at the monsters in a feeble attempt to scare or force them off.
"Crap crap crap Where's Gilasaurus?!"
In the forest where you left it, it'd never reach you in time, summon another monster.
"So soon?! God damn it I don't want to waste it on a bunch of lackys!" Adrien kicked over a trashcan sending one Mooger flying back though the other was advancing, and Adrien was at a dead end.
Unless you want Gilasaurus to come and retrieve your remains, which would be a setback as I'd lose you AND possibly your cards. You have to.
Adrien grit his teeth backed up against the wall, the Moogers where approaching almost leisurely, they knew he was trapped. His hand went to the deck case on his belt reluctantly opening it.
A flash of gold made him froze as the Gold Ranger slashed through one Mooger and stood between him and the demon.
"You ok?!" the Gold Ranger called over his shoulder Adrien nodding slowly eye's narrowing with suspicion. He knew he'd heard his voice before, but something seemed to be digging at him, trying to force him away from that line of thinking and forget about it.
Apparently the Leviathan didn't take kindly to something trying to manipulate its toy. As the Gold Ranger dispatched the last Mooger the Serpent gave whatever the nagging feeling was the mental equivalent of a bitch slap.
Humf, pitiful. Now that the Morphing Grid's leaving you alone, no your senses aren't lying to you. If you'd have payed attention to Lesser Dragon's death vision you'd have recognized his voice sooner.
Adrien tried his best to ignore the smug feeling the Leviathan was broadcasting and sick feeling in the pit of his stomach. Antonio was his friend but also his enemy, and had played a part in killing Lesser Dragon, not to mention would aid in killing any other monster he summoned.
What I said before remains true, his soul is strong enough to support a Ka, and becoming a monster would be a good penance for killing your ally's don't you say? Though it would be best to weaken him, or at least catch him out of morph before you try it.
"Humf and Blue still keeps trying to make out I ain't cut out for this." Antonio chuckled sheifing his blade. "They didn't hurt you or anything?" He asked. Adrien shook his head.
"N-no I'm fine…Kinda shook up but fine…" He croaked picking his words carefully, he didn't want Antonio to figure him out.
"Alright, be careful I gotta make a sweep to make sure none of them got away. Take care of yourself." Antonio patted his shoulder and Adrien could almost see the happy grin on his face as he sped away.
"…I've been here for maybe forty-eight hours tops and my life just keeps getting more and more complicated. What did I do to deserve this?" Adrien sighed making his way to the forest before frowning "…He was pretty damn quick with the Nighlok he said it takes the whole team and they have a second giant form."
He tried to shake it off as the houses thinned out and leaves crunched under foot, he could feel Gilasaurus's gaze on him from deeper into the trees. "How'd things go for you boy?" The Dinosaur purred emerging from the shadows and rubbed against his shoulder, Adrien winced head aching a little as flashes of images where pushed into his mind.
There was a small family camping out here, a school yard that was only a thin fence from the forest, countless houses that lead out into the woods.
So many targets, so many souls.
Gilasaurus wanted to hunt, Adrien shuddered feeling the expectant eye of the Leviathan on his back.
"…Get me back home t-then…The elderly couples you saw, go for them no one will really think twice about it as long as you clean up and don't damage them." The dinosaur purred squatting so that Adrien could get on his back.
As they rode back Adrien couldn't help the twisted sick feeling in his stomach, and the pleased smugness the godly being was radiating.
"You will learn to enjoy this as much as your servants, Servant."
"….God I hope not…"
