In dreams, everything is possible. It is a place where the real, physical, living person doesn't matter because only imagination and thoughts affect that intangible world. The human mind has no limits for what a dream can be; like reliving a memory from simpler times to create a new world where nothing makes sense. Each dream is an experience but it is common for most to forget them as soon as they wake up, and only the most impactful dreams are remembered for days to come.
When people don't forget the dreams they have, different things may happen. Some only take them as the byproduct of the subconscious, nothing to worry about. Others, however, believe those dreams are warnings and advice. There are the ones who would rather live in their dreams while others hate to sleep because nightmares plague them.
For you, the end of a dream means the start of another school day. Like many times before, you don't remember what dream you had. You just know it wasn't a dreamless night.
It doesn't matter. Not when your alarm is beeping loudly without pause and no one is going to turn it off for you. You grumble in dissatisfaction, you are still somewhat tired but you force yourself out of the comfort of your warm bed.
With a single tap on top of the clock, the alarm ends and the temptation to jump back under the blankets arises. Instead of losing to sloth, you march to the bathroom. Before leaving your room, you pick your uniform and place it next to your school bag, ready to be dressed as soon as you return.
[ ] It is a dark blue jacket and a pair of trousers with the same color. (You're a boy)
[ ] It is a pink coat with a blue ribbon tie and a blue skirt. (You're a girl)
In the bathroom, you do the basics. Relief yourself, wash your hands and face, brush your teeth, things everyone does after waking up.
You give a look at yourself in the mirror, and you see…
[ ] A 12 year old in high school, a certified genius skipping grades. (You have to face restrictions and limitations along the way for being too young.)
[ ] A 16 year old in the right grade, an average student like most. (You don't have extra challenges thanks to being just another teenager.)
[ ] A 18 year old repeater, close to dropping out of high school. (You will have a bad reputation and it will be harder to connect with others.)
You nod at your reflection and leave the bathroom. Time to get dressed and eat something.
Hello, everyone. I'm a giraffe trying to write something. This laidback project is inspired by these three works:
Nothing is Sacred,
Have You Tried Dueling It Away?, and
The Domino City Effect. If you have never read a Yu-Gi-Oh! Quest before, I advise you to take a look at them before this one since they have more updates and high quality. It will also make it easier for you to play this quest since most mechanics were imported from there. And yes, it is another quest in the Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters. Get ready for another run in the Duelist Kingdom shenanigans with random bullshit.
First things first, the vote for your starting age. It will determine your character archetype: the genius child, the average teenager, or the suspicious delinquent; it is a generalization, don't worry about getting 'locked' away from a certain type of personality or attitude. Your age also influences the quest's difficulty; a child will have harder times being taken seriously or allowed to travel alone, and everyone will keep an eye out for the delinquent or expect bad things from them. Being younger or older might provide some benefits but be aware that it is a tool to make things harder for you in the first place.
You may have noticed there is no name or appearance vote right at the start, and I have a 'good' reason for that. In early Yu-Gi-Oh!, the deck spoke a lot about the person and their interests. Before we vote for name and face, I'll run some votes for your cards in the same vein as in The Domino City Effect. How your deck ends will define some things about you.
About deck building, I'll say beforehand that each monster will only have one copy unless they need to have copies to work (like Thunder Dragon). For now, there will be a lot of Normal Monsters and Effect Monsters will appear slowly in the quest, I want to play around with cards' lore while we are in the era without well-set rules.
Ah, There will be cards available for selection that didn't exist back then, and I have that in mind. I'll be careful to not pick future cards that will break this era, don't worry.
Everyone loves custom cards in Yu-Gi-Oh! Quests and I'm not different. However, I won't just do any random fusions for you to get extra beatsticks, and you may lose a duel if you try to fish for more custom fusions. And remember, fusions are not the only way to get custom cards!
You, of course, can earn cards in the normal way of beating duelists for Dueling Points (DP) and buying them. DP might have other functions but their main function is for you to buy cards, you shouldn't have to fear saving up except if you want a specific card later. You also can earn DP through completing objectives, more about that when it turns relevant.
Unless stated beforehand, cards will follow the IRL effects instead of the anime effects.
Finally, votes are by line in most cases. I'll warn you when a vote can be by plan, otherwise default to the usual.
Let's duel and have some fun.
