Although, now that I look back at who the insanity has affected, and what Dandeer's spell ended up doing...what if it isn't normal insanity? What if it's a curse on the Vegetan line? By all accounts, Dandeer is an extremely skilled mage, and if the magic here works based partially off of intent, why did her spell create a new person to be Jarron instead of suppressing and brainwashing Jaffur? Surely that would be easier? Well, presumably her intent when casting the spell was something like "Keep my son in his masque and fix the insanity he has inherited". What situation could cause a spell with that intent to make a new person?
Remember, they were worried about the effects of Jaffur being sealed while Super Saiyan, so maybe that has something to do with it.

Oh, I don't think I'm right, it's just an amusing idea I had that I don't think is directly contradicted by any evidence we've seen. Trauma is the far more likely explanation.

I'm thinking we really need to get some Saiyans trained in psychology (aside from the traditional Saiyan technique of 'punch things until you feel better').

Because there's all sortsa broken people, and not just in Vegeta.

@PoptartProdigy, can you explain the theme song selections for Jaffur and Kakara? Also I quite like Feel Invincible so thanks for introducing me to it.

You're quite welcome!

I was listening to "Feel Invincible" when I wrote up Jaffur's entry, and I figured it fit. Mind you, I decided that it fit as something sung by Jaffur -- although not necessarily at this point in the storyline -- so you all can feel free to analyze those lyrics to your heart's content. Just don't interpret the religious undertones as they're presented. Skillet may be a Christian band, but Christianity doesn't exist in this universe.

For Kakara's, once I'd made a link for Jaffur I knew that I needed something for her. But Kakara is by far the happier of the two and her story is far lighter (if you all think I write dark now, you should see my notes for what a Jaffur story would have entailed), so I needed something a lot lighter, while still capturing the scope that her actions have. Thomas Bergensen's work seemed appropriate. I love Illusions. "A Place In Heaven" is an excellent track for that purpose. Very hopeful, to my hearing, while still maintaining a sense of grandeur and purpose. And like I've said before, Kakara is meant to be exceptional, no matter what path she takes, so that fits very well.

In that case I'm glad that we went with Kakara. I'm not sure if I'd like a dark and edgy Dragon Ball to be honest. Hell the current feel of the game is more Naruto than Dragon Ball, so making it even darker might've driven it somewhere Dragon Ball probably wasn't meant to go.

I mean, I'd dispute the hell out of the idea that Dragon Ball is in any way, shape, or form a light universe, but I could definitely see this quest resembling Naruto in some ways.

Honestly, no matter how bleak things got for the characters, Toriyama was still first and foremost a writer of comedies. Thanks to that even if the universe isn't light (and it's not, for most of the human characters the story is probably more horror than adventure) the story always does a fairly good job of seeming so. The giant ape that was a threat to nearly all the main characters was beaten with giant scissors (Giant Apes that can easily depopulate planets). The invisible man was beaten by the blood fountain Roshi shot out when he was flashed. Everyone's name is a pun. Majin Buu and Gotenks took a mid fight break to drink some soda (Because clearly slaughtering all of humanity and devouring the hero's wife is thirsty work). The earth was saved by Bulma's cooking (after everyone on it was slaughtered by Frieza).

It may be a dark tale, but there's a lot of comedy helping hide how dark everything is.

Honestly though, you're capturing the tone of DBZ fairly well. The only way you could do it much better is making your updates consist of 75% screaming and posturing.

What I like about this quest is that we can't solve everything with power.

At this point we are literally the strongest being in the world and have a good chance of taking on the entire population and winning, but all that power does not make us immune to the world's machinations.

Thank you! I do try and keep a balance there between comedy and the darkness. In particular the puns; every saiyan name I've invented for this story is a vegetable (or fruit, rarely, if I think of a good one) pun. As for the screaming...I must admit that I probably would if there were any way to model it without drowning the text. As it is, having 75-character screams with various flavors of bold and italics and ALL CAPS is probably poor form, but I can't help it! :D

Thank you too. That's a big part of what I'm trying to accomplish as well. After all, for all that Dragon Ball (occasionally) finds time to make that point, at the end of the day the solution almost always is to power up some more and blast things.

But sometimes you have to power up REALLY HARD to blast the things.

Other times you have to get beat up and lose your shirt, and THEN power up to blast the things.

And sometimes, not often; but sometimes, you have to let your mostly-trained pre-pubescent child blast things instead.

Indeed. Although Kakara is at a critical disadvantage in that losing her shirt would constitute immodesty and thus must be avoided even once doing so wouldn't break Rule 6.

Kakara is at sub-optimal blastiness. Emergency! Everybody brainstorm!

Problem solved.

...that will make you look even more like 18 than you already probably will. I'm beginning to suspect a plot...
If there's a plot, it involves mind control, since I put very little thought into character appearance in any story I read or quest I participate in.

People making character pictures tends to be, on a visceral level, a thing that causes me to go 'why bother?'. So, no, wasn't thinking that hard on it.

Not that I would be displeased by that outcome...

A fan of 18, I take it?

Well.... honestly it's not like the Dragon Ball series has many other female fighters we could emulate. For female fighters in DB we have: 1. Ranfan: You've already pointed out why we probably shouldn't emulate someone whose main battle strategy involved removing clothes. 2. Chi-Chi: Let's be honest, she was never any good at the whole "fighting" thing. 3. Arale?: ...?

Let's be honest here, of all the female fighters in the DB series, only like 4 worth considering emulating. 1. Zangya: Sure she could fight, but she was a villain who got killed by her boss. Not the kind of fate we should strive for. 2. Videl: The most important thing she did in all of DB is what, make Gohan stop fighting? 3. Pan: Partially Saiyan, she can fight better than Videl at least. She did things, but she's not someone we can consciously emulate since she hasn't really done anything in Super. Other then go Super Saiyan as a fetus or whatever she did that made Videl go Super not-a-Saiyan. 4. "Not-Actually-An-Android" 18: She did things, we probably know she existed, and we don't have to worry about Mystic-Space-Kami Gohan's reaction to us being as weird like it would be if we emulated the chick who fought Gohan and died shortly after, his wife, or his daughter.

Really, if we're going to look like anyone it might as well be the Doctor Gero's female Cyborg: Lazuli, AKA Android 18.

She also kicked the shit out of Vegeta that one time. Which is better than any other female fighter has done in Dragon Ball.

*has not watched super*
