If we go with an all-toon group, Wile E. seems like a solid choice, as he can provide both Martial and Learning. Sending both Dennis and Wile E. is redundant, because all of Wile E.'s stats are higher than Dennis's. I thus suggest Wile E., Max, and Goofy- Max because questing with Russ is an opportunity for him to grow, and Goofy to provide Diplomacy (which is probably going to be useful for, say, getting witnesses to talk).
I'm not sure I agree with that. Dennis has Kung Fool and thus even if his base stats don't reflect it his traits definitely put him as a combatant via the power of slapstick whereas Wile E is more of a thinker type.

Actually, that would probably be my biggest advice for how we consider this vote. Think of character and narrative, not base stats. Even though, yes, stats can influence narrative through dice rolls think about the purpose a character will serve in that narrative. We are playing in the backyard of toon town fighting the major villain of Who Framed Roger Rabbit, so disusing stats should take a backseat to what a character brings to the story. We the players need to give Russ the narrative tools he needs to succeed in beating Doom where Eddie Valiant failed.

I don't think we should send Mirage, but that's mostly for meta-narrative reasons. Russ already plays straight-man to the toon antics around him, while Mirage is a much more humourless straight-woman. Which means that if we send Mirage, she'll be the target of a lot of slapstick directed at her.

I get it... but on the other hand...

In fairness to Mirage, she was the one who originally attempted to set up the toon railroad (she would have failed, if not for a PB intervention), so she does have at least some knowledge of the lay of the land.

That said, Mirage will get sadled with a lot of slapstick just by virtue of being a no-nonsense, clean-dressed businesswoman in the middle of a toon plot, and that's not something I feel she'd deal well with.

For myself, I think you could compose an interesting narrative with:
- Russ, normie who is a slapstick expert;
- Bonkers, toon who cannot slapstick;
- Max, toon who doesn't want to slapstick;
- Coyote, the absolute master of slapstick;
- Dennis, little guy with weaponized slapstick;
Versus Doom, the toon who hates slapstick.

Yeah, Dennis is the weakest pick of the bunch, since Coyote already covers his "role" as "toon who is intentionally good at slapstick". On the other hand, it is possible Max, Russ, or Coyote could learn something from watching Kung Fool in action.

Mr. Big was not expecting to return to Pete's House of Villains after his meeting with Shere Khan, he especially wasn't expecting to be the one called here for a meeting. Yet here he was amongst the funny folk once again awaiting word from the man who personally wished to meet with him. Normally the Artic Shrew wouldn't have bothered with such a strange message but...

The atmosphere of the club was different from the last time Mr. Big had been there and it only took a moment's glance to see the source of the change in mood. Goofy was surrounded by fans and old acquaintances alike as he entertained them and kept spirits up, not even Mr. Big's retinue was immune to the Toon's charm and found themselves smiling and laughing along as they approached the bar. It was only after they got close that Goofy looked away from the crowd and towards Mr. Big, eyes widening in shock when he realizes who he's looking at.

"Gawrsh, there you are!" The Toon said with a smile as he stepped towards the mob boss. "Right this way! Dr. D is waiting for ya over here!"

"Of course, Mr. Goof, lead the way." He told the Toon as they began to move towards the dining area where the good doctor was apparently waiting for them. "I must admit, I am rather surprised to hear Dr. Doofenshmirtz wished to speak with me, let alone show up in person."

"Well gawrsh Mr. Big, It sounded like something important when he told me about it." Goofy told them as they neared the table. "There he is, Now I need to get back to the others. It was nice ta meet ya!"

Doofenshmirtz was waiting for them at a table near the stage, watching as a cartoon began to play over a projector. A group of people and badly hidden Normbots were nearby, strangely not nearly as many Toons seemed to shy away from the inventor as had avoided Mr. Big and Shere Khan when their meeting occurred. Perhaps they felt more comfortable around a human who clearly appreciated their work, or perhaps it was his status as the owner of ACME and his actions to help their kind, perhaps a combination of all of these things.

"Dr. Doofenshmirtz, A pleasure to finally make your acquaintance." Mr. Big greeted the CEO. 'I must admit I was surprised to receive your invitation to meet, let alone in such a... dramatic fashion."

"Mr. Big! just the mammal I was waiting for! Take a seat, and please, don't mind the guards." Doof said as he gestured to the seat across from him. "Mirage insisted I took them with me if was traveling to this part of the country, don't know what I would do without her, I'll admit I'm still new to this whole clandestine meeting thing, it's rather exiting!"

After they exchanged initial pleasantries they got their drinks and enjoyed the show for a short time. As they did Mr. Big wondered to himself what Dr. D expected to accomplish with this meeting, the man seemingly had no reason to contact Mr. Big, or even really know who he is in the first place. It intrigued the Shrew, and he unfortunately wasn't in a position to be able to be picky about who his friends are, if there is even a chance Doofenshmirtz has a good offer Mr. Big needs to hear him out.

"So tell me Mr. big," Doof begins after another sip from his drink. "Are you a father?"

"Yes Doctor, and my daughter is the light of my life," Mr. Big told him. "Family is very important, would you agree Dr. Doofenshmirtz?"

"Absolutely Mr. Big, I simply wanted to make sure you agreed." The man seemed pleased with that response, the one he was looking for it seems. "Then you understand the importance parents have in their children's lives."

His face takes on a more serious appearance as the sepia tone of a flashback begins to takeover.

"My parents also understood that, but instead did everything they could to make my childhood a living nightmare. I was never shown care, never shown love, I was even disowned and abandoned by them for a time in the wilderness of Drusselstein to die..."

"I'm deeply sorry you had to go though that Doctor," Mr. Big said during a small lull in the flashback. "I always pains me to see one be betrayed and hurt so by their family."

"I've started getting therapy for it, but thank you," Doof said before continuing. "Anyways like I said I was disowned by my family and left to die in the woods, I wandered the trees for days, slowly starving to death. I was certain it was the end... until I was found by a group of Ocelots. They took me in and looked after me as their own until child protective services found me and forced my birth parents to take me back."

"I am pleased to hear these Ocelots were kind enough to take in a lost and starving child."

'Yep, it was honestly the first time in my life I was shown any real affection." Doof said as he produced a photo of the mammals in question. "I would have died without Mamma and Poppa Ocelot, shame I had to go back, epically since they did it again! that's when I met Mamma and Poppa Polar Bear."

Thankfully Doof didn't notice the shocked reaction from Dante.

"But that brings us to the real subject of our meeting..." Doof says with a frown. "Bellwether."

"I would prefer not to hear that name again Doctor," Mr. Big said with no small amount of disgust. "That sheep has hurt my family in ways I can never forgive."

"I know Mr. big," Doof said as he slid a folder across the table. 'that's why I wanted to give you this."

The contents of the file was a detailed OWCA report on the innerworkings of Bellwether's operations, extremely detailed, almost none of it was blanked out from he looks of it. Mr. Big's surprise only grew as more information came to light, including a planned raid on one of the safehouses where he was keeping a group of predators before they could flee the city. In the background the cartoon began to shift to a musical number.

Folks, I'm goin' down to St. James Infirmary
See my baby there;
She's stretched out on a long, white table
She's so sweet, so cold, so fair

"If this is true than you've just saved many innocent lives Doctor," Mr. Big said as he handed the files off to Dante. "And why is it you've decided to simply give this information to me?"

Let it go, let it go, god bless her
Wherever she may be
She will search this wide world over
But she'll never find another sweet man like me

"I told you Mr. Big, family is very important to me," Doof said as he motioned to the picture on the table. "And I want to help take care of this insult to my family, if you'll let me."

When I die, bury me in my straight-leg britches
Put on a box-back coat and a Stetson hat
Put a twenty-dollar gold piece on my watch chain
So you can let all the boys know I died standing pat

Mr. Big mulled it over for a short time, this was better than anything he had ever imagined, not only that but it seemed that despite the man's strangeness, he and Dr. Doofenshmirtz seem to be cut of the same cloth. It all comes down to family.

An' give me six crap shooting pall bearers
Let a chorus girl sing me a song
Put a red hot jazz band at the top of my head
So we can raise Hallelujah as we go along

"I look forward to working with you Dr. Doofenshmirtz." Mr. Big said with a wide smile and raised his drink. "Welcome to the Family."

Folks, now that you have heard my story
Say, boy, hand me another shot of that booze;
If anyone should ask you
You just tell 'em I've got those St. James Infirmary blues

"No Mr. Big," Doof said with as similar grin as he finished their little toast. "Welcome to mine."

Just a little idea of what it could look like if we begin poking around Zootopia and reach out to Mr. Big. The song is St. James Infirmary Blues, and the cartoon that was playing was Betty Boop in Snow White. I finally got to use a Cap Calloway song, yay!

Oh Russ, you poor poor naïve fool
Oof. If this is Russ' actual feelings on the matter and not a peptalk to Bonkers the Doom revelation is gonna hit Russ hard.
Except Negaduck (and Judge Doom, but no one knows he's a Toon, so Russ wouldn't think of him here).
Honestly, if that old theory about Russ secretly being a Toon himself turns out to be true, him saying that could also be his genuine belief, with him mentally "disowning" any truly malevolent Toon like Doom and ND.
That is... actually weirdly amusing. Has this guy tried his hand at anti humor? He seems like a natural.

...definitely something we/Russ could pitch to him.

Anti-Humour does have its own niche, after all.

I mean, I have already but I find discords harder to follow than traditional forums so I just don't check there habitually. If important information is posted on the discord I feel it should be posted here as well. Not that Max's disposition towards this quest is super important.

I already said stuff to that nature ages ago a few times, pal.

Basically got told off and by now I just can´t be bothered to argue anymore.

There are only certain units that Russ has worked with enough to trust both the competency of and loyalty of. Pick up to three of the following units in plan format to join you (units will join this quest but be unavailable next turn)

-Major Monogram
-Wile E. Coyote
-Dennis the Duck
-Max
-Technor
-Mirage
-Janna
-Ludivine von Drake

Ok, let me see...

Monogram is a "no" both because in terms of abilities he is essentially a (Very) Poor Man´s Russ (so that "slot" is already taken) and because he is almost done with Reorganizing OWCA - and I´d rather have that one done ASAP for multiple reasons.

As I said before, I really like Wile E. as a party member here. He is a strong char in his own right, he can hold his own in a fight, he can support Russ in case PB tries anything and should the party need to split for some reason, he can take over one splinter just fine. So the Coyote gets my vote of confidence there.

Honestly, I am surprised that Dennis even is on that list to begin with because while he is loyal and trustworthy on account of being just too naive to try anything, competent he is not - he is essentially our Bonkers. That being said, his Kung Fool might be of use, so I´ll say "maybe".

Max is honestly starting to grow on me in this selection, both because of his mentor/pupil bond with Russ possibly helping him grow some more and because Max (a natural at slapstick but hates it) and Bonkers (wants to do slapstick but sucks balls at it) could synergize very well with each other.

Technor would be really good for his knack at psychology (let´s face it, Bonkers got ISSUES here that a shrink might wanna at least glance at for a moment) and his surprising-for-a-walking-TV stealthiness, but we need him for Psychoanalyzing pretty much all the time, so he might just not be "free".

True, Mirage isn´t the best with Toons, but we got Russ for that one. Additionally, she is intelligent, sneaky and (although nobody but her knows it) adept at both covering up and uncovering crimes, specifically murder. So I´d like to send her.

Janna would be a *beast* of sneakiness and (Occult) power (especially if this quest takes place AFTER her exploded training session with Kitsune and Lizzie), but because of that she´s just too high on demand for both NAs and other quests - so same problem in a way as with TECHNOR.

Ludivine might be able to scientifically handle the Cogs and similar stuff, but other than that she runs into the same kind of problems as TECHNOR and Janna - too high in demand for other stuff that we can spare her right now.

So in the end my team would probably be:

-Wile E. Coyote
-Dennis the Duck
-Max
-Mirage

Alternatively, swap out Dennis for TECHNOR if you guys are sure that we can do one turn without Shrink-stuff and similar for NA/PAs

With a hat-tip to @BurnBright

[X] Plan: Toons and Competence
-[X] Wile E. Coyote.
-[X] Max
-[X] Mirage

I really wish we could send Dennis, but we need a Diplomacy and Intrigue bluff, and Mirage provides both.

I don't think sending Max into the heart of anti-toon town is a good idea. Besides narrative potential, or the chance his skills can grow, there's not much he can really bring to the table right now in terms of rolls. (I know that sounds a little meta-gamey but, it's sort of true?)

Also, I'm really afraid of getting another loyalty mauls from him if it turns out not to be worth it.

[X] Plan: Toon Science
-[X] Wile E. Coyote.
-[X] Ludivine
-[X] Mirage

Max just run away from Negaduck, sending him on yet another deadly adventure is not even funny anymore. Plus Ludivine can help with Cogs and I don't think she is that needed on Learning, we have one action locked on genetic and she is not right one for portal.

[X] Plan: Toon Science
-[X] Wile E. Coyote.
-[X] Ludivine
-[X] Mirage

Max might get something out of the quest but he's had so much stuff happen to him I don't want to send him.

I'm not going to be upset at all if that vote wins but I'm not voting for it.

[X] Plan: Toon Science
-[X] Wile E. Coyote.
-[X] Ludivine
-[X] Mirage

It's the closest we have to a bandwagon that doesn't include Max. Besides we don't get much of a reason to send Ludivine or Mirage on Quests.
