I blame this entire thing on the crazy fever dreams I've been having. Worse this is a spawn off of another idea that I have also been writing and that will be posted soon. Damn this has really changed from the stupid little idea it was when I first started off. Anyways, enjoy.

Synopsis: Taylor learns to play with dolls and deals with her mommy issues.
----------

It was all over a stupid doll. Emma had been the one to pull it out of the backpack, and was now turning it over in her hands, her face shifting between some really odd expressions while doing so. Sure, it was pretty nice doll, but all the running and hiding was just for this? She should know that when we caught her, it was just gonna make this part worse for making us work for it. Not that I minded all that much, the chase was an important part of the hunt after all. Messing with Hebert got boring if she didn't at least do something different to spice it up from time to time.

Also why the hell did Hebert have a doll of herself? I mean it was kind of hard to tell it was her without the glasses but I only knew two people who had a blond bob cut like that, and this doll wasn't nearly fat enough to be one of them.. The thing was pretty nice too, not all overdone despite the cutesy style. I was kinda surprised Hebert would own something like this. Definitely didn't seem like her style (not that she had any style) and no way was she able to go around buying expensive dolls with the way she dressed, which must mean this had to be something she got as a kid. This thing getting broken was going to hurt.

"This is pathetic, even for you Hebert. Bringing your dolls to school? Seriously, what are you six?"

Said wimp was currently slumped on the ground blubbering to herself, glasses tilted on her face. This was probably the most pathetic I had ever seen Hebert, and damn if that was saying something. There was no way I hurt her that much when I knocked her down. She should have known better than to try and run away from me.

If she noticed me making fun of her she didn't show it. Her red, teary eyes were firmly locked on the doll in Emma's hands. After taking a few deep breaths and wiping her face with her sleeve, Hebert managed to get herself together enough to beg.

"P-please Emma, please," Hebert whined, snorting back snot as she cried, "Not my mom, please don't hurt mom's doll. I'll do anything, please, i-it's all I have left. Give me back my mom's doll."

Her mom? Guess that made a little more sense why she was so worried about us getting it from her. Plus there were some differences that were pretty obvious between the doll and Hebert that I just assumed were done to make it look better. Differences like breasts, and limbs that fit the body, heh.

Emma was hesitating. She was trying to hide it, but it was easy to tell. Her self-assured face was still there but she was really staring at that doll, biting her lip like she always did when she was thinking. I guess you don't see someone breaking down like this every day. Emma was a survivor though, she wasn't going to back down just because Hebert put up a little crying act. If it was Madison or a few of the others that hung around our group I might have been worried, but Emma wasn't only partway in like most of them. She was always ready to prove her place as an apex predator. It was what made situation like these, the two of us alone with our prey, better than just everyone ganging up on one wimp. Made the things you did way more personal.

Emma's face suddenly got really angry for a second before she breathed in deeply and went back to her normal smiling face. Looks like she made her choice: now there's the Emma I know.

"Oh Taylor," She started, already speaking in her most mocking tone. Emma was always better at that than me, speaking normally in a way that got people all pissed, "How could you be so heartless. Don't you care about your mother at all? Obviously not, or else you wouldn't have killed her, but to even disrespect her memory like this. Look, you brought the doll she made for you to school, and now you went and broke it."

With those words Emma reared the doll back and smashed it again the lockers, breaking the thing into pieces, the limbs falling down around it while the head started bouncing a few feet away. Hebert was already flinching back with every word that Emma said but seeing her break the doll set her into this long, whining wail. Her lip was even fucking quivering. Emma really got into the theatrics when she went all out like this.

"Aww, looks like you killed your mom again Taylor. What, are you going to cry yourself to sleep for a month about it?"

With that Hebert just really broke down and started all out crying. Emma turned around and motioned for us to go, a satisfied smile on her face. Damn, what a stone cold bitch; I knew she had it in her. "See you round Hebert." I said to the girl, doubt that she heard me though. The noise she was making as she crawled across the floor, picking up the scattered pieces of her mom-doll was pretty damn loud. Good thing nobody ever really used these upper floors. We had a good laugh as we walked down the stairs and talked with a few girls to get our alibis together before heading to class as the lunch hour ended.

We did end up getting called in by Blackwell in fifth period but it went about as well as you would expect it to. We were asked to "tell our recollection of the events". Emma and I had already put together out story earlier, expecting something like this. Hebert was making a damn lot of noise, probably wasn't gonna just take us breaking her stupid doll lying down this time.

Hebert and I bumped into each other in the hallway. We both fell and Hebert ended up falling on her backpack and breaking the doll that was inside of it. She was so broken up about it that she started crying and saying how she was going to get us in trouble for this. A shame really, but it was an accident and what can you do Principal Blackwell? Please don't get her in trouble for lying, that poor Taylor Hebert just has no friends and is trying to lash out at anyone. Why, we were with our friends at the time and they can corroborate our stories if you need them to.

Like I said, Emma can really lay it on thick when she needs to. Only person who can do that innocent shit better is Madison, and she has to get all cutesy and childish to manage it. If modeling doesn't work out, girl should get a job as a damn actress. Blackwell sent us out without too many more questions but gave me that "you better watch yourself look" she always had when she knew we weren't telling the whole truth but didn't care enough to actually do anything.

Nice try bitch, if it didn't work with Miss Piggy it definitely isn't working with you.

We were back in our classes before the period ended. The other girls didn't even get called in, guess Blackwell knew better than to try and get the only ward at Winslow in trouble. First sign of a problem from me and I'd be stuck in Arcadia with some handler analyzing everything I did. Nah, better to have me here, showing people their place and getting Winslow a nice little payout instead of wasting my time at Arcadia. Besides what was I gonna do there, hang out with Carlos and Dennis? Fuck no. Got enough shit from them normally, and if I caught Dennis looking at my ass one more time I was gonna nail him to a wall.

Things were looking up though. Wouldn't have to put up with any wards bullshit until tomorrow. Hebert was horribly humiliated. Emma and I were gonna go see that new cape flick they just put out. A pretty good start to February.

Nobody saw Hebert at school for the next two days.

Chapter 2
I walked into school with two dolls in my backpack, a butcher's knife, and a razor blade. Winslow's metal detectors had stopped working long before I even started going here, but I still held my breath while walking through them. I couldn't be stopped by something so stupid, not now, not after I'd committed. I wasn't exactly sure what I was about to do, but I knew I wouldn't be able to go back home to dad afterwards.

And you know what, I didn't care. I had been trying to talk myself out of doing this for the past few nights. Listing all the reasons it was wrong, all the people who would be disappointed in me. But it just didn't help. This rage, this horrible seething anger kept bubbling up from in me like blood from an open wound. Nothing else mattered in the face of that, of what had been taken away from me. I couldn't let them get away with this, I had to make them pay for what they had done. There was no other option. I needed to do this.

All of the laws I'd be breaking, how much trouble I would get into, it all just paled in comparison. The only thing that even came close to stopping me was how disappointed Dad would be, and Mom…

Mom would have understood. Dad probably would too if I had ever bothered to tell him everything that had been going on. I'd left a note but…it still didn't feel like enough. It wasn't enough. I really wish I could have told him to his face but he would have tried to stop me. I would have relented, told him I wouldn't do anything and agreed to call the wards on the weekend. Then I would have finished lying to my dad and done exactly what I had been planning to do.

That wasn't an option, I wasn't going to lie to my dad anymore.

School didn't feel any different, which was good. No one should know that I had powers, or what I was planning, but I was still feeling a bit jumpy about the whole thing. I had never gone off seeking the trio for a confrontation. I had my strings wrap around the dolls, get a preemptive feel for them, be ready for what was about to happen. I was going to end this fast.

The dolls had been mom's before she died. I think they were named for the style of doll that they were but we only ever had the two in the house; since I was a kid they were always just Shanghai and Hourai. They had sat in our living room as far back as I could remember, except on the rare occasion when mom would take them out for puppet shows.

I guess I was basically doing the same now. Putting on a nice little puppet show for Winslow's students and staff. Yea, that's how I should look at it.

I found the bitches hanging around alone in a corridor, surrounded by their flunkies. Shanghai and Hourai were grappling the razor and knife respectively (no small feat for how big their bodies), ready to burst into action. I took a deep breath and psyched myself up, it was now or never.

Something inside me pushed me to take that first step.

The writhing halls of Winslow became muted. All the screeching and yelling fading into a background of white noise. Everything fading into white noise. I was so calm, it was eerie. I'd never felt like this before, the anger was still there but like it had been placed aside just leaving me feeling empty, blank. A path seemed to form in front of me as I made my way through the crowd of students. Was everyone watching me, or was I imagining it? I couldn't tell, I couldn't take my eyes off of the trio. Everything was so clear, I knew exactly what I needed to do.

Sophia noticed me first, no big surprise. She nudged Emma's shoulder and gestured towards me, drawing the redhead's attention. Emma may have looked oddly at me for a second, but maybe not. It was so quick I wasn't quite sure. Either way, she said something which did get everyone's attention firmly on me. Then they all started talking. I couldn't hear it. I was focused on something more important.

Every with all the sounds muted around me, Emma's words came out crystal clear.

"Oh Taylor, we were so worried about you when you didn't show up yesterday.

"I-I'm going to m-make you pay for what you did!"

Oh god, did I really just say that. I even stuttered. I was so calm right now, detached. I knew exactly what I needed to do, what was about to happen. How did I still manage to come out sounding so stupid! Everyone was laughing now. Even Sophia was giving off a few snorts. My hands were shaking, rattling Shanghai and Hourai around in my backpack.

I wasn't going to let them laugh at me any longer.

I swung my backpack around and zipped it open, Shanghai and Hourai flying out all in the same motion. Yesterday my puppeteering had been so clunky and rigid. Right now, you'd be hard pressed to tell these weren't genuine human movements. Well besides the stature and wooden varnish of course. Shanghai hefted the razor in her tiny hands as Hourai gave a few experimental swings with the cleaver. Everyone in their stupid little circle jumped back.

God was it nice to see the surprise on their faces.

Emma was gaping like a fish, Sophia was shouting curses, and Madison fell on her butt and was crawling backwards into a wall. The other's reactions were beneath my attention. Even through the haze I could tell this felt good. Their fear was almost palatable. It was palatable and, oh god, was it sweet. I wanted to say something but nothing came to mind. Actually, probably best not to speak after that last disaster of intimidating dialogue.

I made a few motion with my fingers and Shanghai flew straight at Emma, while Hourai made a beeline towards Sophia. Shanghai raised the razor blade and I could already see it slicing across Emma's perfect little face. Embedding itself in her neck. Hourai was almost an afterthought. The cleaver wouldn't have much trouble busting Sophia's head like an undersized watermelon.

Well that had been the plan at least. I hadn't really expected Sophia to duck under the knife, smash Hourai with her backpack, and then nail Shanghai with a left hook right into the wall. I might not be feeling much of anything right now, but the annoyance still managed to make its way onto my face. Just a little bit.

"Wow Hebert, was that it? Should have known a weakling like you would get a power to match."

That couldn't have been even five seconds. When the hell did Sophia become some sort of ninja? She even had time to badmouth me before…

I started backing up as I realized the distance between the two of us was shrinking quite quickly. I might have gotten some abilities, but so far none of those had manifested as anything like super strength or durability. I was just as squishy as I was last Friday when Sophia had bowled me down the stairs with one shove. I'd been in the nurses office for an hour after that. Also, Sophia probably wouldn't take an assault on her person just lying down, or stop beating when the other person wasn't able to fight back .

But the fight wasn't over, was it?

Shanghai and Hourai weren't so easily destroyed when I had my grips on them. Sophia's attention was fully on me; she didn't even think to worry about a cleaver getting ready to rupture the back of her skull. If Emma hadn't shouted a warning, it likely would have done just that.

Instead Sophia swirled around instantly, ducked under the attack, smacked the cleaver out of Hourai's hands and grabbed the doll, smashing her into the ground in one smooth motion. Where the fuck did she learn to do this. Was the track team recruiting for the gangs now? Was Sophia involved in underground fighting rings in her spare time?

Actually that last idea had some merit…

Well, Hourai was pretty much down for the count at this point. I was still moving her just fine, but another hit like that and I don't think she would be in one piece anymore, and I had no idea how my powers would start to work on her then. It was unfortunate that my dolls didn't come with some sort of fighting knowledge, right now it was basically two small versions of me fighting Sophia, and it was turning out about as well as one big me fighting her would.

This really wasn't going how I'd expected. This entire fight was supposed to be me going in for a quick retaliation and then escaping before there was a chance for the police or protectorate to get called in. I still needed to grab where I'd stashed my stuff out in front of Winslow and then make a run for it. The longer this dragged on the bigger the chance of me getting caught was. I couldn't leave though. I needed to do something more. I wasn't finished here, not yet.

Also Sophia wasn't finished I realized. I needed to stop getting distracted. A fist had found its way into my gut and I was currently on the ground trying my best to suck in air. My short gasping breaths didn't seem to be helping much, god this really hurt. Sophia raised her leg, ready to stomp my face in.

Shanghai came to my rescue, with a razor blade to the back of her thighs and knees.

I guess she assumed that with me incapacitated, Shanghai and Hourai would not be under my control. Well, not a wrong guess, but I don't think she had been expecting for me to be going through this battle like I was watching a movie. She went down, cursing me all the way as something sprayed across my face. I gave it a tentative lick without thinking. A coppery and metallic taste filled my mouth and I swallowed instinctively.

Blood. It was blood.

The entire world snapped back into place around me. There was a lot of screaming at the moment. I'd never seen Emma look at me with that face before. Or Madison. Or everyone else around me. Someone was videotaping everything. Oh god, that was a lot of blood. Sophia was wrapping something around it but everyone else was standing back from around us in a circle. A very wide circle.

What the fuck was I doing?

I started hyperventilating while forcing myself to stand up on shaky legs. I needed to get out of here. I needed to get out. Shanghai and Hourai flanked me on either side, brandishing their weapons, and I made a run for it.

No one stopped me.

I needed mom's things. I needed what I packed.

I needed to get out.

Oh god.

Oh god.

Why did I do this?

Oh god.

I only knew one person who had a blond bob cut like that.
Emily Piggot?

I know that there's a temptation, when giving somebody a crossover power, to make them look more like the power donor. This doesn't really make sense most of the time. When used like this, and there actually is a canon character who is in fact Sophia's superior with that exact hair style, it's especially jarring.

Oh shit, good catch. Forgot that Piggot had that same hairstyle. I'll edit it so that makes sense. Wouldn't normally change Taylor's appearance for the sake of the story, but it plays a role.

After Sophia went down without revealing her power, what happened to Emma?

Also, people starting to admit the bullying in the fsce of parahuman attack should make for a very interesting aftermath.

From the looks of it Taylor has the abilities of Alice Margatroid from the Touhou series.

I think her mom IS Alice Margatroid. She did mentioned that the dolls belonged to her mom.

Emma should have known better than to do those things.

Hm... This Taylor feels a bit OOC, but that's understandable though.

On another note, Emma, Madison and especially Sophia should count themselves as really, really lucky that Taylor's Grandmama didn't know about what they're doing to her grand daughter otherwise Earth Bet would become a tourist resort. Hopefully, the author knows what I'm hinting at.

Heh. I wonder if she'll become involved with the story at some point.

When that happens...

Some of the things in that second part, with the way people were looking at her oddly...
All the screeching and yelling fading into a background of white noise. Everything fading into white noise. I was so calm, it was eerie. I'd never felt like this before, the anger was still there but like it had been placed aside just leaving me feeling empty, blank.
...Inhuman thought patterns...
Was everyone watching me, or was I imagining it?
Emma may have looked oddly at me for a second, but maybe not.
...people can see that she is different just by looking at her...

...and most blatantly, this:

Their fear was almost palatable. It was palatable and, oh god, was it sweet.
Taylor is more than just Alice's daughter who is learning to follow her mother's footsteps, isn't she? She's already a youkai in full.
I gave it a tentative lick without thinking. A coppery and metallic taste filled my mouth and I swallowed instinctively.

Who wants to bet that she didn't notice her own -literally- bloodthirsty grin at right this moment?

heheheh. Maybe before you drank some of the crowd's fear~, Taylor. EhehehehEHEHEHAHAHAHAHA!

But yeah, Brockton bay is screwed, isn't it?

Huh, I really don't think a youkai like Alice would die so easily as in a car crash, but there's a lot of wiggle room there

That said, it appears that certain youkai traits have been passed on to Taylor here

You decidedly have my attention even beyond the mere fact of writing a Touhou crossover

hm. This should be interesting, i know little of touhou so i hope taylors powers are more then what they seem so far.

well...she's the daughter of a youkai magician, and has apparently inherited Alice's puppetry skills at the very least. Magic in touhou is something most everyone can learn, but only a few get to the point where they can be called true magicians, and even fewer become actual youkai magicians. The only examples in known canon being Alice and Patchouli. Marisa has said that she has "other plans" than becoming a youkai, though we have no idea what those plans are, but now I'm getting off topic. My point is that should she find some of her mom's old books, she should be able to learn the magic in them, and if she finds the Grimoire of Alice itself. well...odds are it will straight-up turn her into a youkai on the spot and give her all of Alice's power, which, of course, has never really been fully explained

as it is, she is most probably half-youkai, which could mean many things depending on how the author takes it, but will age much slower than a normal human and live much longer

however it is also possible that tasting human blood pushed her over the line into full youkai, but that's pure speculation on my part

the thing about Touhou though is just how exceptionally loose its canon is, there are a lot of things that aren't even really hinted at, like exactly how durable youkai are and how possible it is to kill one for good

all of this is from memory though, so anyone can chime in and point out if I've made any mistakes
