‘Doctor Strange’ Sequel Undergoing “Significant” Reshoots

This doctor is on call till Christmas as the actors and crew shoot six days a week until the end of the year.
... Insiders say that Cumberbatch and company are undertaking six weeks of shooting, if not more, working six days a week. Sam Raimi remains as director, and Loki head writer Michael Waldron is still on board writing the new material. It is unclear what actors in addition to Cumberbatch are involved.

...

Several factors appear to be driving the shoot. One insider said about two weeks are dedicated to principal photography that was held over from the initial shoot that took place in the U.K. due to what is described as actor availability issues. The insider played down concerns that the reshoots were related to retooling the story.

Another reason for the shoot concerns catching up on production slowdowns from COVID-related matters that hit the initial U.K. production. It was those slowdowns that reared their head when they unexpectedly affected the Marvel release schedule in October.

On Oct. 18, Marvel and Disney announced the pushing back of Multiverse of Madness from March 25, 2022, to May 6, 2022.

...

Multiverse of Madness started production in the U.K. in November 2020 but paused in January 2021 due to a worsening pandemic. It then restarted and ostensibly wrapped in the spring.

Hey, you remember when all the DC movies underwent massive reshoots and it made them better and more successful movies? Yeah, no, I remember the opposite happening as well.

Also, now that I know Raimi is directing it, I have some reservations. He hasn't directed a good movie since spiderman 2.

I believe a good number of MCU movies have had reshoots actually; it seems to be just part of their process now.

The difference being that those movies get a few extra weeks of filming... This movie seems to be undergoing something a bit more extensive.

Reshoots mean literally nothing, the Film Twitter/Film Twitter-adjacent idea that "reshoots equals absolute catastrophe" is completely off base. Literally every film goes through reshoots, sometimes extensive ones, it's completely normal part of the process. All a reshoot means is...exactly that - the production team took a look at the footage they've shot and decided they wanted to re-do/re-work a sequence, pick up some shots that they missed/didn't realize they needed, or decided that a scene/sequence wasn't working and want to shoot something else instead. It's something that's factored into the filmmaking process in the pre-production stage.

It obviously can lead to a film that's choppy and disjointed, or indicate that the studio is getting cold feet/getting overly involved, but it's not an immediate indicator that the film is fucked and going to be a disaster.

I don't know, people kept going on about how reshoots we're the kiss of death for DC movies and now that its a marvel film it's "no big deal"

Although I will emphasize that the real mark against this film is that Sam Raimi hasn't made a good movie in years. His last was that awful Oz the great and powerful.

If you're talking about Justice League, it's not merely the fact of the reshoots, but that the reshoots were to facilitate the wholesale change in direction of the film when Snyder left and Whedon took over. Reshoots in general don't much indicate a film's ultimate quality unless it's prompted by more troubling developments in the production.

I'm pretty sure Batman V Superman and suicide squad got hit with it too. Tbf, they both turned out bad, but I'm pretty sure they got hit with the reshoot thing before anyone knew for sure that they were bad.

Well there's a lot going on in that trailer.

Looks like the villain is the obsessive Dr.Strange from What If?

I heard rumor the reshoots were because Multiverse was originally supposed to be before Spider-Man and it being after Spider-Man required changing some things.

While interviewed by Variety on something else entirely (Michiel Blanchart's "You're Dead Hélène", in which he's one of the producers), Sam Raimi dropped this.
"I wish I knew the answer to that question," Raimi said, responding to the question of whether the movie was complete. "I think we're done, but we just cut everything. We're just starting to test the picture and we'll find out if there's anything that's got to be picked up. If something's unclear or another improvement I can make in this short amount of time left, I'll do it. One thing I know about the Marvel team is they won't stop. They'll keep pushing it until it's as close to being great as it could."

So what's the connection between Strange and Shuma Gorath? I don't follow the comics so I really only know that name from Marvel vs. Capcom, but is that connection likely to be spoilers?
