Rean can only blink at the alien's answer. The idea of Kyrie in that club is… "Really? Didn't expect that."
Kyrie, apparently ignorant as to the source of the confusion, simply nods. "It felt a little familiar, though I can only vaguely remember why."
"What was your world like, anyway? I must admit, the thought of it seems…" Unreal? Impossible? Ridiculous?
Unaware of Rean's inner thoughts, Kyrie answers. "The Utterdark is the Realm Between. Pieces of dead worlds float down there, and we gather those pieces to build our islands."
"Who's 'we' in this?"
Their face falls. "I don't remember. I can't remember why the islands are so important either, only that they are." They look out across Trista, the whole sunset-tinted town visible from the hill the academy sits on. "This world is so vibrant in comparison. It almost hurts."
Rean lets Kyrie trail off, waiting for a few minutes of walking before he resumes the conversation. "Did anything from Zemuria ever make its way down there?" He would give them the benefit of the doubts for now. Instructor Sara did say this was an Imperial Decree, after all.
Kyrie shakes their head. "Very rarely, I think. Zemuria is the Prime World. It is completed. Whole. Robust. The Law of Zemuria is too stable to be easily disrupted, or even shed pieces of itself outside of extreme situations."
His new, girl-shaped classmate goes on like that all the way to Class VII's dorm. They part ways on the second floor, with Rean staying there to go to his room while Kyrie heads to the girls' rooms on the third floor.
*
He finds Kyrie standing by the entrance to their dorm the next morning, testing the weight of some books. Among them is a binder of what looks like note-taking paper. Still, Instructor Sara did tell him to bring Kyrie along while running errands for the student council.
And come to think of it, Laura and Emma did say she was handy in a fight…
"Kyrie?"
Once he has the alien's attention he explains that he, Gaius, and Elliot intend to explore the Old Schoolhouse again at the principal's request.
Kyrie considers the offer for a moment before she answers. "I will be available after the lessons at the Drinking House."
"The what."
"The building dedicated to the Prime Light, where the human children take their lessons. Hybrid Sara has told them that I will be coming."
…Is Kyrie telling him that they will be attending Sunday School lessons alongside the children of Trista? "Well, I suppose that is one way to learn the fundamentals."
"Fundamentals are important."
"Yes, yes they are." Rean awkwardly rubs his neck. "Well, don't let me keep you. I'll swing by the chapel when it is time."
*
One of the tasks Towa gave him is to deliver some fixed orbal appliances to people, courtesy of the school's Engineering Club. The Engineering Club is based out of the academy's orbal workshop next to the Student Union building, and its leader is a sizable but very helpful second-year named George Nome
According to what he told Rean the students at the Engineering Club fixing things around the academy, and even in the town, is a common occurrence.
At least the deliveries out in Trista give him the chance to pick up Elliot, Gaius and Kyrie on the way. Not to mention the beat-up, but still functional, radio the owner of the pawn shop all but threw at him.
Now only if the alien would stop standing a little too close to comfort as they walk back to the Engineering Club. That would be great.
George greets them heartily the moment they enter the large shed used by the Engineering Club. "Hey, Rean! Finished those deliveries already? Nice job!" The large boy looks over the younger's classmates. "Hi guys, you Rean's friends? I got the forge working, so if you need any Quartz…?"
"No thanks." Responds Gaius with a friendly smile. "I am not very familiar with Orbal Arts, but I wouldn't say no if you have a Quartz that empowers me."
Rean perks up at his words. "Hang on, we got a bunch of Sepith from that 'orienteering exercise'. It should be enough to add some circuits to our ARCUS units."
George grins as Rean puts the Sepith on the bench. "Say no more. Just wait a minute."
The rotund second-year, for all the busywork he saddled on Rean, does good work. With the Sepith requirements met by Rean's findings, the older student quickly forges new Septium circuits into their ARCUS Orbments.
Rean, Elliot, Gaius, and Kyrie's base EP increases by 50!
Rean, Elliot, Gaius, and Kyrie have unlocked their second Line 1 ARCUS slot!
Rean is the first to notice the problem once they have finished upgrading their orbments. "Looks like we don't have enough Sepith to make a Quartz for you. Sorry Gaius..."
The tall foreigner brushes him off with a friendly smile. "Don't worry about it. I'll just rely on my Master Quartz and my spear for today. But speaking of Quartz:" He pops open his ARCUS and takes out a small blue marble. The Tear Quartz they found in the Old Schoolhouse during the 'orienteering exercise'.
Gaius holds it out to Kyrie. "I was serious when I said that I don't have any special talent with Orbal Arts. You said you were a caster, right? You take it."
Kyrie eagerly accepts the Tear Quartz from Gaius's hand and slots it into place in their ARCUS. The supposed alien freezes after closing the orbment, however. "What about Elliot?"
Elliot starts at being put on the spot, but he recovers before Rean or Gaius needs to cut in. "N-no that's fine! My Master Quartz gives me that Art already, so it wouldn't do me any good."
With that settled they leave the Engineering Building for the Old Schoolhouse. Aidios bless the genius who gave the ARCUS units the ability to store objects, such as their weapons, in a space pocket. So convenient.
When they arrive the issue of Combat Links comes up. Had it just been the three of them Rean would just have linked with Gaius while Elliot played support, but now…
The discussion doesn't take long, but their fourth member declines to comment until Rean directly asks them.
"Well, we probably should link up so that the back line can support the front. Any thoughts, Kyrie? This will be your first time using the combat link, after all." Of course, his only experience is that one time against the gargoyle, but that's just a detail.
*
Your preference as to who you will form an ARCUS Combat Link with?
[] Rean smells the good kind of interesting and he has yet to steer you wrong.
[] The Drinker-stink has worn off Gaius by now, and he seems like good people.
*
The building where you entered this world is something of a blur to your memory, but that is understandable. You were even less than yourself back then than you are now, and you were removed from the building before you had time to familiarize yourself with this part.
Rean, Elliot and Gaius, on the other hand, are surprised at the supposed changes and quickly start to speculate. You wait patiently for them to finish.
When they are done you all follow Rean's lead through the subterranean corridors and waterways, until you come across a group of monsters. A number of the flying mammals are fighting with a few mollusks over the corpses of some arthropods, but the argument evaporates when they catch sight of you and the humans.
You all draw your weapons, and as the combat link springs to life you consider how to fight.
You have 30 Action Points to use per Turn. AP not spent this Turn will not be available next Turn.

Unbalancing.
Major Successes and Critical Hits unbalance an opponent. This gives whoever is Linked to the one inflicting the initial hit the opportunity to perform a normal Attack on the victim. Some crafts, like Rean's Autumn Leaf Cutter, expand the unbalance range by their given value.
For example, should Rean use Autumn Leaf Cutter on an enemy one level above him the DC to hit would be 55, with a roll of 81 or above Unbalancing the enemy. ALC has an Unbalance value of 10, meaning that the enemy would be unbalanced even if Rean only rolls at least 71.
Roll Modifiers.
For balance reasons, roll modifiers like Insight (+50 to hit rolls and -50 to enemy hit rolls towards you) cannot upgrade a roll further than Success, nor can it downgrade a roll past Failure.
Tear Balm restores 12 HP and Small EP Charge restores 50 EP.
Kyrie's selection of clubs depends on her origin.

-Wind!Kyrie would have gotten the choice between the Swimming, Riding, and Gardening Clubs.
Doesn't this functionally mean there's no difference between the actions? Also, are you gonna have us go turn by turn for this battle or just go for general use?

Reasoning:
Rean because I like Rean. Either works, so it's not that important.
As for the battle, normally I avoid using arts for easy fights, but the mechanics heavily favor arts and disfavor crafts. Luminous Ray hits in a line, so we should be able to hit several enemies so I selected the largest group.
Edit: Now that I think about it, Shining is probably the best quartz under this system since it's an AoE Insight application.
It turns the default coin flip for hitting into a guaranteed hit for you and a guaranteed miss for enemies. Which swings the balance back in favor of "hit it till it dies".

Sorry for the wait. Didn't see this before going to bed and I just got back from work.
And yes, under this system this will be Turn by Turn unless the winning vote is 'repeat until battle over'. I will put the option into next update. AP is based on the Speed Stat times 10, so speedy characters like Rean gets 50 Ap to play with per Turn. This is subject to change as Characters and Master Quartz level up.
As for AoE's, I forgot to update the system from the simplified version. In this version AoE's hit one or more guaranteed target plus XdY additional enemies, with both factors depending on how big the AoE is.
For example, Luminous Ray has a Small AoE, so it hits 1 guaranteed target and 1d3 additional targets. Targets that belong to the same group as the guaranteed target are prioritized. If you roll more additional targets than there are targets available, those extra hits are wasted. Under this system there is no difference between a Line AoE or a Circle AoE.
Also, the EP cost of Luminous Ray and Soul Blur have been changed to reflect this.

I highly recommend you don't go turn by turn for every fight. That causes the quest to grind to a halt. Yu-Gi-Oh and other TCG quests all have this issue and generally solve it in one of several ways.
Listed in no particular order:
Lightning rounds/updates. The GM does short updates to cover the battle and quickly get a few votes to pick the next action.
GM just handles it. Players trust the GM to play out the fight for them to speed things up.
Strategy picking. Similar to GM plays it out, but with added input from the players. Players select a general strategy of how to play and the GM implements that. GM uses their discretion for how many turns to maintain the strategy if not specified, and then calls for a new vote to select a new strategy.
Autoresolve most fights. Only play the important fights and let the others fade to the background.
Sorry for the wait. Didn't see this before going to bed and I just got back from work.

Very glad to see a Trails-based quest. It's one of my all-time favorite franchises, and the only quest I ever attempted to run was partially based on it.
I'm a big fan of the Divergent Realms concept; even if they aren't canon, there are definitely places like Gehenna, the Old Schoolhouse, and the Infernal Castle that do not conform to Zemuria's normal laws. The Utterdark specifically sounds really cool.
Kyrie's otherworldly perspective is quite interesting to read, and most of what she (is 'she' appropriate? I know Kyrie's at least somewhat familiar with the concept of dimorphism in general, just not in humans) is thinking can be deciphered after some thought. I'm excited to read about her Sunday School experience, it should be quite funny.
There is one thing that confused me a bit though. @Iceblocks, in the first few updates when Kyrie gets her initial impression of the group, she mentally refers to someone as 'the Chef,' which doesn't match any of the four groups she references more often. I wasn't sure who she was referring to and I don't think she's used that term again since they left the Schoolhouse. Would you mind clarifying that?
On a completely different and unimportant note, I hope that Kyrie can still get some use out of her Beak hammer (perhaps it will develop some Divergent properties over time?) even if she mostly casts Arts. I am always a fan of Laura bonking foes with her massive sword, so reading about Kyrie doing some hammer bonking is quite fulfilling. I'm also glad that Kyrie's taking the divergent orbment as well, as I think it's likely it will grow in power over time as well.

Until we boost our EP and/or greatly cut EP costs we're still gonna mix in normal attacks. Can't afford the constant expenditure yet, especially since we can't restore our EP between battles easily with the Ingenuity Quartz.

Rean is the first to reach the enemy, with Kyrie right on his heels even as she prepares an Orbal Art.
"Fourth Form: Autumn Leaf Cutter!"
The precise slashes fail to kill any of the flying critters, but the one in the middle of the pack has its wing clipped. It tumbles through the air, past Rean and onto the floor, only to meet its end to the sharp spearpoint of Kyrie's Lucerne. The ARCUS combat link allows the alien to follow up on the openings created by their partner, not missing a beat even as they busily prepares an Art.
Rean's own followup goes less well, with the wounded monster withdrawing out of range. He is vaguely aware of Gaius poking at his own opponent when a warning comes though the link, mere moments before Kyrie warns him themselves.
"Pain…" Mutters the alien, and then a beam of silvery light erupts from her ARCUS and swallows up the rest of the Flying Felines. "Mammals dispersed."
The sound of grinding rock heralds Elliot's own Art. The Earth Needle rise up before him and shoots forward to splatter the Grass Drome moving around the edges of the fight.
The slugs, now outnumbered two to one, try ineffectually to bring down Gaius before they notice the situation. They are promptly surrounded and stabbed to death from all sides.
*
"Where do you think all this water comes from?" Wonders Gaius as he, Rean, and Kyrie rinse off their weapons in the waterway. "The river is far from here, and I would think someone would have noticed the water going under Trista and the Academy to make it here?"
Rean shrugs. "Beats me. I first though that there might be an underground source, but then I noticed all the fish." He points to an inquisitive carp for emphasis. "Those don't live underground, at least in my experience, so they have to be pumped in from somewhere. Maybe there is a river to the north or something, out in the wilderness."
"You've sure put a lot of thought into it." Chuckles Elliot, who has paused his inspection of his staff to join the conversation. "When did you become such an expert?"
Oh dear. Questions about his past… "I fished a lot in my hometown." He deflects before looking over at the so far quiet member of their group. "What do you think, Kyrie?"
The girl-shaped alien looks up from the hammer in her lap. "I smell something…elusive." They turn their head to look down the corridor. "Further in…"
Elliot swallows nervously. "N-not something like you, right?"
Kyrie shakes their head. "No. This from Zemuria. Or maybe one of Zemuria's attendant Realms. It is a lot stronger than the beasts we've found here."
Of course it is, why wouldn't it be?
**********
You find more beasts after some further exploration. Two groups are making noises at each other at an intersection, which inspires Gaius to theorize that they are fighting over territory. The first group consists of mollusks, but a different sort that cover themselves in shells of rock held together by sticky slime. The second is a group of small, furry balls.
"Dastardly Amalgams and Poms…" Mutters Rean. "Gaius, Elliot, do you think you can handle the Poms?"
Gaius and Elliot look at each other. "We could…" Answers the latter. "Gaius' Master Quartz would give him an easier time with hitting them, but will you be alright? Those things seem pretty hard to cut…"
Rean nods at them. "No problem. Worst case, we can keep them busy until you can finish them off with your staff."
He taps you on your human shoulder. "Ready, Kyrie?"

One more test of the new combat system before the boss.
From now on I will try to keep updates limited to three combat Turns in one update, with the players voting on the general strategy.
I am also implementing a Slaughter Rule. As seen in this update, if there are too few mooks to bother with writing a full update for, they are automatically disposed of.
Since we're targeting the mollusks who tend to be more vulnerable to Arts, I see no reason not to use Luminous Ray again, particularly since it is multi-target. It's also interesting to see the monsters squabbling amongst themselves. After using Luminous Ray, we can probably just normal attack unless someone gets themselves in trouble.

"As we planned! Go!" Two Dastardly Amalgams and four Poms. Easily doable!
Rean runs past the first rock-covered mollusk, making sure to get its attention before he strikes at the other. Working the blade of his tachi through the rocky carapace is an ordeal, but while he fails to cause it more than superficial harm he does unbalance the creature. Kyrie, working her way around the edge of his battle with the Amalgams even as she prepares an orbal Art, doesn't miss a beat. They thrust the spearpoint of their Lucerne at the monster, but the point is lodged harmlessly into the protective shell.
"Cooperate, Mollusk." Sighs the alien as they take a few steps backwards so as to not draw their opponents' attention.
This type of monster is sluggish at the best of times, giving Rean time to watch Gaius flick a double dose of Pom guts off his spear. The Highlander is beset by a particularly aggressive Pom a moment after, which opens its body to stab him with its needle-tongue to suck something out of him. Gaius grunts in pain before he rips the Pom off him and throws it aside. It tries to right itself, but fails to recover before Gaius can slash it across the face with his spear.
The last Pom tries and fails to capitalize on his distraction, but Gaius sidesteps to avoid its attacks.
Kyrie, having found a good angle, finally unleashes her Art. It is the same as the one she used in the last fight, a silvery beam of light that punches straight through the Amalgams. The wounded Pom actually jumps into it in an attempt to get away from Gaius, letting out a surprised squeak before it is annihilated.
The sight sends the last Pom into a frenzy. It speeds past Elliot's attack, going this way and that as it tries to find a way out of the intersection. Rean takes up position at one of the bridges, and while it hesitates Gaius pins it to the floor with a viper-quick thrust.
And so it ends.
"We fight well together." Says Gaius as he rinses off his spear again.
Kyrie nods her head and responds blandly. "Yes. But…these enemies are weak." They sniff the air and frown. "There is something strange up ahead. We should be careful."
*
The crisscrossing bridges and walkways over the water that make up this floor give way to an enclosed tunnel, the kind one would expect to find inside an underground labyrinth. After a minute of walking the dimly lit passageway opens to reveal some kind of antechamber.
There is a weird structure off to one side, similar to the one right inside the entrance to this floor. Whatever it is, it doesn't seem to do anything.
Other than that the room's most prominent feature is the large set of double doors at the far end, right across from where Rean and the others just entered.
Kyrie's habitual sniffing precedes her words. "It is close. Stay on guard."
"You sure you're alright, Gaius?" Murmurs Elliot as he checks on his Link partner for the second time.
The foreigner just smiles and nods. "Don't worry, I will be fine with you guys around."
And with that they proceed.
*
The doors open to reveal a large room behind them. A large empty room.
Kyrie suddenly perks up and readies her hammer. "It comes!"
A ball of purple light appears in the middle of the room, flashing brightly as something monstrous fades into being.
It is twice as tall as Rean, its head and torso covered in brass even as its limbs are coating in shaggy fur. Two horns stick proudly out of its head and its fingers are tipped with wicked claws.
This one is stronger than the others. You call on the energies twisted and trapped within the frail human body you are stuck with. Everything will be needed to make this a sure victory.

I am planning on reworking Insight. Might replace '+50 to Hit others, -50 to others trying to Hit you' with 'DC to Hit others cannot go above 50, DC for others to Hit you cannot go below 50'.

Part of the balance issues with how you're balancing normal hits. Your default is flipping coins to see if you hit.
This makes things like Insight's canonical boost to dodging and hit incredibly powerful. How you're planning on changing it makes it useless since if there's a situation where we need that boost the party is already fucked.
You could alter it such that it shifts hit rolls one stage to their benefit. It still leaves it very powerful, but not "never get hit, never miss" good

-[X] Use Utterdark Lance craft while enemy is fainted
-[X] Use Divergent Shock when out of EP and the Enemy is not fainted
-[X] If out of EP and Craft charges, normal attack spam.
-[X] Use restorative items at GM discretion. Such as using the EP charge on a turn we do a Normal Attack or use Utterdark Lance
Reasoning:
We do a lot of damage with our Arts that's guaranteed so we blow through that first. Utterdark Lance is our strongest craft when there's only one enemy (2x 10*10/3=33 damage magic attacks) compared to Divergent Shock (1x 30 damage magic and physical attack).
Divergent shock gives a chance at applying faint thought, so we should use that in the hope of reapplying faint.
Normal attacks are only used when we have no other choice.
The spell does create an amount of attacks equal to our level, so that's six attacks in three actions, and besides, magic defense is its weak stat, so the utterdark lance is still useful, the instant death will still be useful on elites and extremely tanky enemies

Phrased that poorly. Meant it doesn't matter which effect it was since it is immune to both. The attack is still good, although we're still gonna want to use Arts for the guaranteed hit (and since soul blur can cause faint which will help us kill it faster)
Which reminds me that we're gonna want to load up on EP charges. Arts are objectively the best attack for us so we're gonna want to make sure we have plenty EP to keep casting
