Disciples of Red Dew Sect (Cultivation Riot Quest)

Good to know. Will note this at Meinu's sheet. Would like to ask about our 'stress', 'injury' cap? I'm at least assuming Spirit equates the maximum Qi amount we have.. maybe?

I don't really have a stress. If something like that happens I'll give you a qi deviation which will hamper your cultivation. You can get injured in which case you will lose your minor action until you are healed. It will not heal normally.

You have a 1 Qi per Spirit yes.

Wuyin stares blankly into space for a moment, rubbing her scalp from the brief brush she had with the forces of the cosmos before her manage to refocus on Hawk.

"Oh!"

She returns the thumbs up gesture despite not really knowing what it means.

"Thanks! I had literally no idea that it would work! I just kinda thought it'd be funny if it did, and it did! I was kinda useless with the actual work though, so I'm glad I went with the idea! But yeah, you probably shouldn't trust me too much on that sort of thing, because I had absolutely no way of knowing it would work!"

Wuyin stares at her thumb, then Hawks's thumb, wondering if she's meant to start thumb wresting him. That sounded like a bad idea though, because Hawk was stronger than her.

"Still, it's never a bad idea to find people to work with! And since you're being nice, let me see if I can give you some advice: The strength of one is capable of lifting both oneself and others, and in doing so, they grow stronger! Iron sharpens iron, and even the tallest mountain means nothing without the range that surrounds!"

Wuyin takes a moment to try to decipher what it is she just said.

"... I think that means you should try cultivating with other people! You're strong, so if you cultivate together with others who aren't as strong, then they'll be able to get stronger just as reliably as you can, while you can get the occasional extra benefit that comes from having someone to compare yourself to! Since remainder successes go to whoever rolled highest when cooperating, if someone with Copper Body cultivates using Body with someone who only has Clay, then the Clay person gets the benefit of more reliably earning at least 1 success, while you get a better chance of earning 2! Don't worry if that last part doesn't make sense, because it does! Maybe!"

Hawk blinks while letting his thumb fall, "R-Right. In other words, working together makes everybody do better? Seems pretty obvious...but I guess it might be so obvious that most people won't think of it. Huh."

He then shrugs, "Eh, don't sell yourself too short there. If you're here, that means there must be something about you that's worthwhile. Pretty sure most people who try to get where we are...you know...don't. Anyway, if cultivating together is supposed to make us stronger, then would you like to try it out? I could help convince other Disciples to join us."

Huh, well that wolf attack was certainly unfortunate. Were they spirit beasts or just abnormally strong?

Also Liao is male.

They were spirit beasts. You could fight any normal animal at this point.

Also fixed that. I was thinking of one of the other disciples with a friend.

Are there any special requirements for taming a peasant rank beast aside from rolling well enough?

Rolling well, and keeping a peasant beast in the area long enough tame. You'd have to roll pretty well though. Probably wouldn't happen without a technique.

"There's a downside to that type of cooperation, in that it relies on other people cooperating! In theory, if all of us Newbie Outer Disciples cultivated together, then we would almost never fail to make at least some progress each time! But, people have their own things to do on their own time! And yeah, I am pretty lucky to be here. And yeah, I'd definitely be interested in cultivating together! I was also thinking about checking out the Manual we found as well, and that also seems like something we should be doing as a group as well!"

Wuyin spaces out once more.

"... Yeah! Though I wouldn't be too quick to make plans. There's probably gonna be more tasks from the Elders coming up, and odds are, people are gonna want to pursue those. But another piece of advice Hawk: All people are born weak. Strength is a choice, purchased with blood sweat and tears, save for the few who are blessed by Heaven. Why did you make that choice, Monkey-Hawk? You don't need to answer that now, maybe not for a while, but when at last your strength has gone as far as your limits allow, think on why you chose to be strong."

Turn 2: Zhang ji Long's Mission
On the sect mission board, a simple note is posted.

Hunt down the Granite Pheasants

Difficulty rate: soldier rank
Mission type: capture/eliminate team mission

Elder Zhang had requested for all interested outer and inner disciples of suitable strength to hunt down or capture the Granite pheasants roaming the crimson copper outcroppings in the province.

Reward:
1 equivalent ranking spirit stone for every pheasant killed and brought back.

1.5 spirit stone if the body is brought back relatively intact.

5 spirit stone for every living pheasant brought back.

Hawk tilts his head, "Well, I do know I was born tough. Have been since I was small. Always able to take a beating easier than others. But if you're asking why I chose to do this then...hmm. I'll get back to you on that. Good talking to ya though."

He places a hand on his chin and starts walking away while waving at Wuyin. Her words seem to have put him into a contemplative state. One that has drawn him into his mind more so than in the past few years.

Turn 2: Ping Jingai's Mission
If it hasn't been otherwise noted, all cultivators who participated in culling the bandits has been awarded an elixir for their participation.

Another note finds the board.
Improve the Realm

Cultivate your body and mind by improving the lives of mortals in accordance with the late Sect Master's wisdom. Assist with building roads, constructing watch towers, and plowing fields for new farms. The reward is two peasant spirit stones.

Signed, Elder Ping Jingai
@HousePet A special note finds you in particular, scratched in blocky and unpracticed letters.
If you want to walk the path of a warrior, seek me out.

Elder Ping

but has little luck. Zhili attends lectures from the senior disciples on alchemy, but the principles go over her head.
His. Zhili is a guy, not girl.

May be a bit early to put this out since Turn 2 hasn't really started yet but:

Any of ya'll interested in Training the Technique we just got together? I'll admit, I am pretty curious to figure out exactly what it does, although at a guess I'm betting it offer bonuses when working with other people, which is pretty broadly applicable. Plus, pooling our dice together makes the action more reliable, since we're more likely to hit the average number of successes, and if we're contributing at least 2 dice each then we're already breaking even. Even if we chucked our auxiliaries together we'd still wind up with a good chance of making at least some progress on the tech.
Maybe, maybe. I'll have to think on it more.

Do we have any information on Granite Pheasants? A Soldier rank task makes it seem like they are dangerous.

They are. Some of the senior disciples are giving out information to interested outer disciples. A Granite pheasant is about half the size of a human with rock hard feathers and a beak that can puncture boulders. They aren't as powerful as a Forged Soldier cultivator, but in a one on one they would easily kill a tempered peasant cultivator like you.

They aren't so powerful as to be unbeatable however. A team of three to five peasant cultivators working together could beat one depending on how well they worked together.

His. Zhili is a guy, not girl.

Would anyone be interested in working on the Red Dew school technique with Xing? he's a very lucky guy guaranteed to ease your path.

I'll probably give it both my actions unless the elder of games gives a mission.

Scrawled in seemingly random locations scattered across the sect is a rather bizarre but potentially informational ramblings of a certain Disciple.

Wuyin's Declassified Sect Survival Guide

Hello! Or goodbye! I'm not sure. If you're reading this, then welcome to Red Dew Sect! You've arrived in a very interesting time, and time does not interest easily! But this interest could be good or lethal, and while you've been taught the basics, it's never a bad idea to have them all in one place! Don't worry if they don't make sense, you'll still know them in your heart. Or head. Or stomach?

The End of the Beginning. Or the beginning of the end?

Progress! It's probably what you're here for! Luckily, as an Outer Disciple of the Sect, you have already made a little bit of progress! Specifically, you, and everyone else, started out with a Clay Grade Body, Mind, and Fortune, though individual Disciples may start out with a Copper in any one of these attributes depending on their aptitude! You also start with no techniques, unless you have a gift for that, in which case, you have a single Clay Grade Technique, which I'll get into later. You also start out as a Tempered Peasant, which is the lowest Realm of Cultivation. Think of it like a power level, with your graded attributes representing where you fall within that power level. Here all the Realms of Cultivation so you don't have to memorize them!

Tempered Peasant <- This is you!
Forged Soldier - This is the highest realm Outer Disciples can be.
Iron Knight - This is the realm our Inner Disciples fall in!
Core Lord - This is the realm that our esteemed Elders are in!
Gold Baron - This is the realm that the late Red Dew Baron achieved. As of now, there no individuals in the Red Dew Barony that are in this Realm!
Jade Count
Nascent Marquess
Profound Duke
Sage King
Eternal Emperor
Tribulation Saint
True Immortal
Celestial Being

Generally, an individual who stands a Realm above another is largely untouchable unless they are ganged up on by many, and even then, it is likely that the Heavens favor those who stand at the higher realm! So tread carefully around our Seniors and our Elders, for we are but ants in comparison to them!

The Cult of Culture for Cultivating Cultivated Cultivators!

Now, I'm sure at this point you're saying "Aw, we're the lowest rung on the ladder? This sucks!" And to that I'd say you're already doing better than 99.5% of all of the people here in this Barony, so quite whining you giant man-children! But by that standard, I would also be a man-child. And I am not a man-child! So neither are you!

And luckily, you don't have to stay a man-child! You can advance through the realms through cultivation!

How do you do this? Well, you've already been taught the basics, but let me give you some clearer instructions:

Achieving an advancement in realm from Tempered Peasant to Forged Soldier requires all of the following, done in no particular order:

- Forge the 4 Organs: Eyes, Lungs, Heart, and Stomach. This is accomplished by Working on your Cultivation Base. Each success you generate with this action is cumulative, and when you have accumulated enough successes, you will Forge one of these organs, and will be allowed to raise the Grade of one of your attributes! Remember, that's Body, Spirit, or Fortune!

- Gain Enlightenment of the First Realm of your Path. This is accomplished by Meditating on the Dao to gain Insights, which represent your own beliefs and revelations regarding this world we inhabit and your own role in it.

Once both of these have been accomplished, congratulations! You can now initiate a Breakthrough to the next Realm! Don't expect it to be easy though!

How to Succeed or Fail in Cultivation while trying!

"But wait a minute Wuyin?" I'm sure you're saying. "How do I succeed at things? What counts as a failure? Am I a failure?" And my answer to that is yes! But every failure is a success waiting to happen! So how does that happen? Well, I'll tell you!

Success or Failure are the result of cosmic dice rolling above our heads. Specifically, 10 sided dice. When you perform any action, in order to determine if you succeed or fail at said action, and by how much, a certain amount of dice are rolled. This is determined by the Grade of the relevant attribute (Remember, that's Body, Spirit, or Fortune!), with higher grades awarding more dice, scaling linearly. So Clay Grade Body gives 1 die to roll for an action that requires you to roll Body, and Copper Body gives you 2 dice, Iron giving you 3 dice, and so on and so forth.

However, if you have a technique that you can apply to the action you are taking, it also contributes dice to this roll, on the same scale that your attributes do! So if you have a Clay Grade Technique that applies to an Body action, and you have Clay Body, you now are rolling 2 whole dice! By the way, Techniques can be raised in Grade by Training them, and aren't limited in the amount of times they can be raised in Grade like attributes! So go nuts! Just remember that techniques only make you better at actions, they don't contribute towards advancing in Realm!

So, once the massive hand in the sky has gathered the appropriate amount of dice to roll for your action, all the dice get rolled.

On a result of 1 to 5, that dice is a failure. Boo!

On a result of 6-10, that dice is a success. Yay!

Once all the dice have been rolled, all the successes are counted up, and that determine how well you've done on your action!

Time to tilt the scales! Oh wait, I hate math!

So, you've gotten your odds, and they're not good enough for you! Well, here's how you can change them, for better or worse:

Auxiliary Actions! Every turn (Don't worry, you'll know what a turn is), you can use your Auxiliary action to either move around, do something other than your main action, or help out your main action! Either way, whether you choose to do something different or the same as your main, your Auxiliary action also rolls dice to determine success just like your main! Except it has a -2 modifier on the results of it's dice. Poop. But, if you're using your Auxiliary to help out your main, any successes generated by it get added to your Main Action! Yay!

Friends! If you happen to have a friend who isn't another Player(Don't worry, you'll know what this means too), and they can help you out with your action, that's great! The sacred power of friendship awards a +2 modification on all dice rolled for that action! This can apply to Auxiliary actions as well, so if you spend both a Main action and Auxiliary action on the same action, and have a friend helping you out, your chances of succeeding go up by a lot!

Special Friends! If you have a friend, or multiple friends, who are Players, then things work differently! If you're all taking the same action and working together (Rather than competing or even sabotaging each other!), then you all combine your dice together, and the total amount of successes is either counted for the whole action, or distributed evenly among the group! If one person is just helping you out though, then you just get a bonus. I think this is just dice, but the giant hand in the sky hasn't said anything about it.

Circumstances! Yes, money can't buy you love, but it might be able to buy you successes! Depending on your actions, you may be able to spend certain resources on them to award you bonuses! What kind? Don't know! Probably depends on what kind of resource you're using. Maybe the Giant Hand will say which is which.

Red Dew, and You

This is getting kinda hard to write, so here's some information on the local environment you've found yourself in! Some of this comes from our Esteemed Elders, and some of it comes from the Giant Hand in the Sky!

"The Red Dew Sect is located on top of the mountain with the sect master's pavilion at the very top of the peak. Roaring Furnace city is much lower down at the foot of the mountain."

"The Red Dew is actually the nectar of a type of brilliant flower that grows on the sides of the mountain. When it blooms the mountain is swathed in crimson and mortal workers carefully harvest the flowers to extract the nectar which is then made into potent liquors that make up the Barony's main export."

There are roughly 8300 cultivators in the Red Dew Sect, ~8250 Outer, ~75 inner, and like a dozen elders right now.

"The other questions have been neatly answered so I will address religion. Basically the Empire officially recognizes that there is a heavenly court and heavenly bureaucracy full of gods taking care of various worldly aspects. There are temples and shrines scattered to them all over. Mostly used by mortals, but cultivators will occasionally pay their respects.

There are also local gods. Spirits that have basically cultivated divinity by getting mortals and cultivators around them to worship them. These are not recognized by the empire. But of course have varying degrees of influence over their areas depending on how powerful they are.

Finally there are the monks. They meditate on the Dao of the universe itself rather than any god. They spent their time attempting to gain enlightenment and become at peace with the world. The Empire does not particularly like them as cultivation is generally viewed as fighting against your place in the Dao.

Some monks and local gods are very powerful and banded together in the Crystal Palm War to force the Empire to acknowledge them and stop persecuting them. Ever since the Empire has basically looked the other way."

Beast don't get human rights unless they look human! Doesn't matter how smart they are!

"Duels yes, but ambushing and stealing are frowned on. I'll leave actual punishments up to the elders."

"We are beholden to the Empire in the worst way possible: Taxes. In more serious terms, the Sects are the Empire. The Emperor is a cultivator, and we are awarded lands and pr

Li: Thanks remember the training next mouth ( so I'm not crazy! I did hear rooling dice)

Wuyin waves goodbye as well, before turning to stare at a wall.

There's... thoughts prickling at the back of her brain. The last etchings had been a bit of a whim of hers, and she wasn't sure there was enough worth mentioning. Then again, it's not like they have to be long either... hmmm

She'd think about it some more. There was so much going on all at once, that it felt so hard to keep track of everything. But at the same time, Wuyin could not help but think that was the exact reason she needed to try to track everything.

She was lucky, but lucky would only ever take her so far. The world was indifferent, caring neither for screams nor prayers. The cosmic dice fell, and the whole world turned.

And in such a world... Wuyin wished to be more than just a falling leaf in the wind.

Speaking of these four organs... Earlier post said we can't absorb the Qi from Peasant Qi Stones until we temper/refine the Lungs. What does the four (or three I guess?) organs, individually, do once refined?

Eyes: 5
-Tempering the eyes allows a cultivator to see Qi in its most basic form. Techniques unlocked with this organ give more precision or special senses.

Lungs: 7
-Tempering the lungs allows a cultivator to take in Qi from their surroundings. Techniques unlocked with this organ allow a cultivator to absorb qi of different types or more quickly.

Heart: 9
-Tempering the heart allows a cultivator to distribute Qi throughout their body. Techniques unlocked with this organ allow a cultivator to enhance themselves physically by sending qi to certain parts of their body quickly.

Stomach: 10
-Tempering the stomach allows a cultivator to eat and digest spiritual herbs and meat for their qi and vital properties. Techniques unlocked with this organ allow a cultivator to eat types of food that would otherwise be too toxic.

Should probably mention Mei senghai is meant to be female

Turn 2: Jigui Taifang's Mission
Another note in the fine calligraphy is pinned to the boards in the inner and outer rings.

"Disciples of the Red Dew Sect. This Honorable Elder Juigui is hereby granting you the opportunity to further your own cultivation and gather valuable knowledge in the extensive gardens of the Pagoda of Spirits. A number of 10 Soldier-grade and 50 Peasant-grade Outer Disciples will be required for this task. Those distinguishing themselves in this task will be rewarded with the a part of the ingredients they helped to harvest."

The message is signed by Juigui Taifang, Elder of Spirits.

So question: My character took an auxiliary action dedicated to Healing, the result mentioned Red Dew School, and its been mentioned that Red Dew School is a kind of generic 'all encompassing' school; should it just be 'Red Dew School' that Mei Qin is learning for general Red Dew School knowledge or would it in fact be Healing of the Red Dew School or some version of 'Red Dew School - Healing Branch' (or, as I currently have it listed, Healing (Red Dew School)) or results to that effect?

So yeah, this is is what I meant when I was talking about '...recognizing that things may change with the reveal of the missions...'; I can't exactly have a character built around upholding the memory of the Red Dew Baron, then respond to a mission built around 'act in accordance with the Red Dew Baron' by going 'yeah, I think I'm going to do something else this turn'. :V

So...can I talk anyone into teaming up for a group community service project this turn?
