[X] Plan: Weeping Wallet
-[X] [Pauper] Ocha Plantation
-[X] [Pauper] International Standard
-[X] [Pauper] University Laboratories
-[X] [Library] Hard Knock Life (Mine!) (Rank 1 Streetwise) (200 eb)
-[X] [Library] Kitchen Safety for Gonks (Rank 1 Cooking) (200 eb)

"First of all, I most definitely need the contact for Ocha Plantation," You decided. "I'll cash in my favor for an introduction there."

"I had a feeling you'd pick that, so I already had an introductory message prepared. And there it goes, I just sent it," Pauper revealed. "Give it some time, then you'll be seeing order forms in your email soon. From there, it's all up to you to make your own success."

You blinked, then smiled when you one-upped Pauper's preparations. "Did you happen have any other messages? Because you'll need them as well, I'll be buying extras."

Pauper was silent for a moment, then there was static noise associated with sighing into a recording equipment. "I see. Which ones?" You told them your other picks, earning a noise of surprise when you mentioned the University Laboratories but the Fixer refrained from questioning your choice. After all your choices were logged, Pauper's digital avatar made a slight nodding gesture. "Very well, I'll get in touch with them once you send the credits to this account. I believe that concludes your business with me today."

"It should," You agreed and idly noted down the account numbers that floated around Pauper's avatar on the screen. "Unless you have something you want to ask from me."

"Not at the moment, though…" Pauper's voice trailed off for a moment, then a curious note entered their voice. "You're clearly proficient with weapons, given your success in clearing out the Scavs. I don't have anything lined up now, but give me some time. I think the Secondborn Ronin could do with somebody of your skill."

You pointedly raised your eyebrow. "Gigs?" You neutrally positioned, with neither a tone of approval or disapproval. You wanted to keep your options open.

"Maybe. I'm thinking something a little more of a side activity." The book on the screen distorted for a moment. "Nothing sure now, but maybe at a later date for both. Come visit back later if you're still interested."

With that, Pauper disconnected and the screen flickered back to the normal library catalog screen. You checked and it was true, your browsing session didn't show any signs of disruption at all. You leisurely jacked back in and finished adding your selections to a digital shopping cart. When you were satisfied with your choices, you tapped holographic checkout button and the screen lit up with instructions to head to the library staff to finalize your purchases.

You obliged, rising from your chair and disconnecting, the cable slithering back into your wrist. You approached the staff stations and there was Ayaka, pulling out two datashards from a terminal. Those likely had your requested titles on them. She looked up and smiled, placing your purchases on the countertop to claim. "T-thank you for your purchases! Please enjoy reading your new books!"

A simple nod, then you opened two credit transfers. One to the library to pay for the books, the other to the account number given by Pauper for their information services. Your opticware scanned Ayaka's face in the meantime, concluding that she was simply pleased one way or another. You couldn't blame her, you just spent a lot of eddies on stuff she oversaw.

-4400 eb (25600 -4400 = 21,200 eb)

Not even a full month ever since I left, and already, I'm down nearly a third of my entire life savings. You morosely reflected while taking the shards. I've a feeling it's just not going to get any easier from here on out.

(Electronic Installation: 93 +14 (Tech) +6 (Rank 3 Electronics) +10 (Delayed) = 123)

Then there came a little surprise when you did a full diagnostic of your new shop's electronics: most of them actually still worked! The ovens and stoves had appeared poorly maintained at first glance, but it was mostly all just cosmetic damage, stuff that you could easily fix with some tech know-how. The occasional broken part here and there were common enough that a single trip to a local DIY shop could source the replacements.

All in all, the only big major expense you had to do in the end was a new fridge, along with coffee machines. Even those came at a nice discount, most of them being bought secondhand from a corporate chain nearby that was shutting down. Some of the soon-to-be unemployed workers lent you a hand by dropping off the equipment via their truck, with not too subtle hints of desperation about wanting to be hired. You promised you'd consider them, but you weren't sure if you wanted or needed their aid for now.

-500 eb (21200 -500 = 20,700 eb)

(Mitsu's Availability: 9)
(Incident?: 75)

Just as you finished the installation process for the last coffee maker, your eyes lit up with an incoming call. You accepted and a small screen featuring Mitsu's sheepish look opened up in your vision. "My most sincere apologies partner, but I am unavailable to tutor you in swordplay at our scheduled time today!" She regretfully told with a bow of the head. "I am held up by affairs most foul, and must attend to said matters first."

"Affairs most foul?" You repeated with a narrowing of the eyes, some worry coming out. "Do you need help?"

"Alas, it is a task I must do alone," She muttered darkly. That absolutely didn't calm you down and you began to look for your Lycoris schoolbag, intent on demanding to help. Like hell you were leaving Mitsu to hang-!

Then you caught sight of a familiar background behind her and all the tension left your body with a noisy exhale. "Mitsu, are you at the city hall?" You guessed, having an inkling of what her 'foul deed' happened to be. "Are you getting a license for something?"

Her face began to turn red at your observation. "A matter most foul!" She squeaked out and immediately disconnected the call. You shook your head and relaxed, knowing that Mitsu was unavailable but safe. It wasn't ideal of course, you had been really looking forwards to finally learning some basic sword stances under her. Yet if she had something to take care of, you of all people wouldn't dare begrudge her of it.

It just meant you now had some time do something instead, and you had a pretty good idea for that. You looked up from the coffee machine to the ruined and damaged customer areas, with the cracked tables and smashed chairs. It definitely needed fixing up, unless you were a fan of the 'post Night City gang fight' vibe going on. Customers certainly wouldn't be, that was for certain.

(Shophouse Repair: 98 +14 (Tech) +12 (Rank 6 Repair) = 124)

You got to work immediately, hauling away the destroyed furniture first before getting to fixing the walls. The windows were also replaced, the broken shards discarded while you installed new panels. Some quick mopping later, you paused and then turned around to survey your work in disbelief.

Had you really finished it all already? You looked on at a surprisingly sterile and empty space where there once was the remnants of a shoot-out. It was admittedly only a small one where the Scavs hadn't even had the chance to fight back, but still, it was rather shocking how quick you had gotten it done. Maybe it was just your Lycoris service surfacing, having definitely worked with bloodier and messier scenes before in Kyoto.

After taking a moment to shake your head, you exited outside to toss the broken furniture into the dumpsters. Or rather, you would have if there wasn't a group of people in the way, an odd variety mix standing about in antique uniforms. You blinked, then rubbed your eyes just to make sure. They were still there...and they were excitedly pulling and grabbing at some of the broken parts you tossed out.

"Look at this! It's definitely from a diner booth!" One of them eagerly babbled to their very interested comrade. "Grab it all, let's see if we can't get it back to base in one piece!"

"Well, I mean, it's definitely not in one piece, but we can put it back together for the authenticity!" Their colleague commented and grabbed one of the bent stools. "Imagine, we could absolutely set up so many scenes! The others are going to be so jealous!"

"Um." You coughed awkwardly, drawing their attention. "Can I help you lot? You're in my way in getting rid of this stuff."

"You're getting rid of it?!" All of them chorused with wide eyes. "Please, let us have it!"

"...okay, I'll bite." You set down the broken furniture you were carrying and looked at them, blinking when your opticware flooded with police information. "You're...the Commandos?"

"So you've heard of us!" What had to be this little group's leader proclaimed eagerly. "Good, then you know we really strive for authenticity in making our base as close to the past as possible! These furnishings, they'll help us do so, even if we have to repair it first. Please let us have them!"

You stared, both amused and bemused at the request. You weren't quite sure, but it sounded like they were after a specific style that the discarded furnishings so happened to have, and they were willing to go great lengths including dumpster diving to get them. An idea popped up and you innocently tilted your head. "I suppose that I could...for a price."

Almost immediately, all their eyes lit up and creds flooded your way. You grinned and let them work at the scraps with a wave, returning back to your shop with a skip in your step. This much money, it absolutely was a workable budget for furnishings in the customer area! You quickly logged onto your computer terminal in your room and began to browse local furniture sites, seeing if any of them could be slotted in.

Though more importantly, this was an opportunity to decide what sort of flower cafe atmosphere you wanted to create for the customers. You collated and gathered up your options, looking them over with an eager look. Now this was getting especially exciting, you reflected, and picked one.

[ ] [Customer Furnishings] Traditional Kissaten. A style taken from Japanese history, specifically that of common tea houses which have since evolved to also serve coffee. It can be both a personal and social service, where either single patrons work in peace or groups assemble to talk something over drinks. To that end, there needs to be an appropriate mix of both Western and Eastern seating styles.

[ ] [Customer Furnishings] Uptown Bar. It's a style similar to what one would see in a traditional bar that served spirits, but this one focused more on caffeine than alcohol. The main appeal of this is a service countertop with laminated wood, making it a very personal experience between staff and customer. There are still a few tables intended for group parties, but the bar is certainly the main highlight.

[ ] [Customer Furnishings] Private Booths. While the flower cafe certainly isn't braindance club, their system of having private sealed booths for every seating is still intriguing enough to copy. While it isn't possible to fit many into the shop due to space limitations, each one of the enclosed spaces can be deeply personalized and tailored to every single group. Perhaps a reservation system would have to be implemented for best usage.

[ ] [Customer Furnishings] Performance Venue. A few tables and chairs, then a stage in the front meant to host a variety of shows, from stand-up comedy to band performances. Perhaps even it could evolve into talent presentation, enjoyed amid cups of coffee and flowers. Though finding said talent might take a while.

[ ] [Customer Furnishings] Morning Cup. It's none too subtly copied from many other corporate chains, but it works for a reason. Order at the counter and take a seat while the food and drinks warm up, or simply stand and wait to take it to-go. This version of it does different from the more sterile stereotypes with colorful floral arrangements on the tables.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- Don't worry about what style fits your Fixer side job, because you can always just close the shop for an hour or two to have private or reserved meetings. Just choose what style you want your everyday customers to feel like.
- Uniforms (if you decide to have any) will be separate cuz fluff freedom.

Four hour moratorium to consider a shop style.

[X] [Customer Furnishings] Traditional Kissaten.

You adjusted the last of the cushion seats and stepped back, satisfied with the setup of a low table surrounded by soft zabutons. It was one of a few in a small corner dedicated to a more traditional seating arrangement, for those who wanted a more rustic or laid-back experience. The rest of the customer area was more regular tables with cushioned chairs, for those who just wanted a more regular seating method. You personally had no preference which, now that you think about it, summarized how you had setup your new lifestyle so far.

But regardless of wherever one sat, there was always going to be a vase nearby. Be it at the center of the table or just off to the side, you handpicked each and every of them with some emergency spares in your storage area in case of disaster. They were currently empty, but already your head was bursting with ideas on what sort of bouquets you wanted to fill them up with and share with the world. That thought alone was enough to make you giddy, foot rapidly tapping against the floor in excitement.

You just couldn't wait, especially with your suppliers already secured! Both Ocha Plantation and International Standard had reached out with affirmations for a business relationship, and you could already start to order what you needed to operate the place on a week-to-week basis. It was all happening through just electronic mail for the moment, but perhaps it was worth meeting them in person to explore further opportunities. They were specialists in their respective fields and could surely offer some unique insights.

The University Laboratories of Kagoshima had also responded with a willingness to sell excess lab reagents to you. You rather dryly noted how they hadn't even questioned what you wanted the chemicals for, only that you were willing to buy them as you needed them for your purposes. Were you still a Lycoris, you'd be sounding alarm bells for your superiors to approve an investigation mission into them. But as it was now, this was hardly a situation where you had cause to do so, especially as you were technically the perpetrator of this exchange.

Come to think of it, perhaps that was the excuse or defense they had planned should they ever be caught. Hm, you'd have to keep an eye on them if you ever swung around to pick up the specified chemicals. That thought got you to sigh, as they alone out of the three contacts you had acquired from Pauper were the only ones who stated they would not do delivery to your place. You'd have to go to the labs, pick up your purchases, then carry them home through the metro. That was going to be a massive hassle.

Then your ears pricked up and your eyes narrowed at a rumbling noise, a familiar but different sound. You realized it was some sort of engine, but this one was quieter, almost like a motor instead of a combustion system. You had your suspicions already, and you warily stepped out of the shop and onto the street. If nothing else, you wanted to make sure that whatever it was wasn't going to drive into the front greenery you had fixed up after the Scavs had torn into them.

Thankfully, it seemed that they had enough sense to take it up the designated approach, the wheels rolling over cement instead of dirt. As to who it was, they were wearing a helmet and heavy leather jacket, but you had a very good idea when they eagerly waved to you. "Mitsu, welcome back. I see you've gone and made use of that dealership contact from Pauper."

There was a muffled confirmation, then your roommate remembered to take her helmet off and shake her head, letting her hair fly free again. "Indeed!" She repeated with a proud grin and placed the protective equipment on her new purchase. "Twas a journey with no shortage of trials and tribulation, but I have finally acquired my steed!"

Her 'steed' was a rather sleek and clean looking motorcycle, one that was rather ubiquitous in any city in Japan. "An Ashigaru, huh," You commented and looked it over carefully. "Not a Kusanagi?"

"Alas, those are beyond my means for now," Mitsu mourned, but there was clear affection in how she patted her new means of getting around. "Not that this was any small price either, but it was far more affordable. It serves well enough, and that is what matters most."

"It is a well-known city motorcycle." You finished the study and gave an approving nod. "Looks like you didn't get scammed with a pre-Fourth Corporate War model. This looks almost like it just rolled straight out of the factory. It'll last you a while, especially if you make sure to avoid exhausting the battery."

"Agreed!" At a thought from its owner, a small socket uncovered itself and Mitsu produced a charging cable to connect it up to the shophouse's electrical network. "Fret not, I shall handle the extra expense of charging responsibly!"

"Good." A thought then struck and you turned to study the small side-mounted storage units. "Say, how much can this thing carry about?"

"About 25 kilograms. Why so?"

"Maybe a future favor, but nothing too worry about for now." You smiled and gestured for your partner to enter the furnished flower cafe. "When you're ready, come in and let me practice making a cup for you."

"Oh! I shall certainly partake!"

(First Cup: 64 +14 (Tech) +2 (Rank 1 Cooking) = 80)

You decided to be bold and try out one of your new coffee machines, trying to get a sense of how it feels to work with. You were surprised by how surprisingly intuitive it was, perhaps a testament to the maker's craft, and produced a steaming aromatic cup of caffeine that had your own mouth watering. But you refrained and instead served it to Mitsu, who waited eagerly at the countertop separating the cooking area from the customers. "Here you go. Enjoy."

She eagerly sipped at it and her eyes immediately lit up. "A fine concoction!" Mitsu happily declared, and you could actually see she was trying to refrain from downing it all in one go to savor the flavor. You watched happily, seeing that your supplier had certainly not been lying about their high quality produce. To imagine this was just a small sample that had your fellow Lycoris graduate smacking her lips. "Yuuki, I think this might just work out for you!"

Those words made your chest tighten for a moment. Maybe this really was your calling, after all this time as a government assassin. "I hope so," You finally settled on with a smile and went about making a cup for yourself. You had a feeling you'd need it for the coming week, and the last push to get everything inside setup before the big opening day.

Reading Progress:
Hard Knock Life (Mine!) (Rank 1 Streetwise) (1/1) – COMPLETED
Kitchen Safety for Gonks (Rank 1 Cooking) (1/1) – COMPLETED

Choose up to four (4) actions you'll carry out through the week

Kagoshima Fragrance (Kaori)
-[ ] [Kagoshima Fragrance] Fix up the Shophouse: This place is an absolute mess, between the poor maintenance over time and the firefight to reclaim it. You'll need to put in some serious time to try and put things back together from the upstairs living area to the underground basement.

-[ ] [Kagoshima Fragrance] Fix the Van: The Scavs had a cheap utility van that's gotten shot up pretty badly, but you think you could maybe fix it back up. It could be handy for either an infusion of cash to your new business or an asset for the business itself. Try your hand at being a mechanic for a bit.

-[ ] [Kagoshima Fragrance] Organize Details: With the main customer service area now furnished, you really only had to finalize a few more details before you were ready to open your doors. This included setting up menus, preparing bouquets, and perhaps most important of them all, ordering uniforms.

-[ ] [Kagoshima Fragrance] Hire Employees: While you could run the place by yourself for a time, the lack of coverage in areas you're not well-versed in can eventually be telling. Try to fix this by putting out ads for new hires.
--[ ] Cooking

-[ ] [Kagoshima Fragrance] Advertise Word:
Go spreading fliers and putting up posters of the soon-to-be-opened Kagoshima Fragrance around the neighborhood to try and drum up interest for the eventual grand opening. The more buzz you create, the more attention could be drawn to the big moment.

-[ ] [Kagoshima Fragrance] Ocha Plantation: A tea plantation that supplies your cafe with seasonal flowers in bulk, one of your shop's main products. The owners are experienced generational farmers, so why not pay them a visit to see if you can share in the love of botany?

-[ ] [Kagoshima Fragrance] International Standard: To provide high quality authentic coffee, you've turned to rely on purchasing your beverage ingredients from a well-known corporation that specializes in imports. They surely should have an expert when it comes to picking specific ingredients, so pay them a visit to see if you can perhaps improve your blends.

Shinohara Securities
-[ ] [Shinohara Securities] Visit the Office: You've made a contact in the form of Security Chief Azumi, the leader of an elite corporate police task force. Pay her a visit to chat and see what opportunities she can offer you.

-[ ] [Shinohara Securities] Part-Time Patrol: As Shinohara Securities was perpetually shorthanded, they didn't have enough security patrols going around to keep the neighborhood safe. They've offered to pay you a fair sum to do so in their place. It'd be like a Lycoris patrol, but this time, you get paid!

Secondborn Ronin
-[ ] [Secondborn Ronin] Visit the Pauper: The Pauper is the Fixer of the Secondborn Ronin and is a bridge between the corporate world and streets. Go to the public library to chat with them about what opportunities they can offer you.

The Vendetta
-[ ] [The Vendetta] Schedule a Ripper: La Peste is a mysterious but talented RipperDoc who has offered their expertise if you wish to see them for a health checkup or discrete cyberware surgery. See if they have an opening in their schedule to meet them.

Lycoris Graduate
-[ ] [Lycoris Graduate] Call a Lycoris: There's times where you miss the organization, as unbelievable as that might sound given their grim task. You certainly don't hold it against any of the other Lycoris and want to have a chat with them to see how they're doing.
--[ ] The Commander
--[ ] Misaki Arisu
--[ ] Nakaiji Momiji

Living Life
-[ ] [Living Life] Browse the Library: The public library in your neighborhood has a wide selection of information datashards covering a variety of topics. You can read them to your heart's content in the facility, or you could pay a fee to make a copy and take it home to study.

-[ ] [Living Life] Find a Black Market: As so many things are restricted from sale or possession in Japan, you can only find these prohibited items at a black market somewhere. They're surprisingly common enough if you know where to look, though having some caution about the quality of their myriad of wares is a smart idea.

-[ ] [Living Life] Go Clubbing: Risk the nightlife of the city and visit one of the many neon hangouts around the city to experience something new, maybe even meet some new folks or have magical encounters.

-[ ] [Living Life] The Way: Mitsu's offered to take some time out of her week to help train you in the sword and by extension, other melee weapons. You did have a rather nice katana that you didn't want to go to waste...

Miscellaneous
-[ ] [Miscellaneous] Scrap the Van: It's not worth your time or effort to patch it up. Rip it apart and find a seller for the parts.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- Going to test the balance, but I think two skill points a week sounds fairly appropriate, with the cost going up every rank. Means you can get constant background progress with an upfront price. We'll see.
- Lycoris Samurai gets herself an Ashigaru. C'mon, I had to make that joke.

Four hour moratorium to come up with a week plan.

"Ugh, I really want to attend the opening, but too much frakking work's piled up too much at the moment," Security Chief Azumi bemoaned. "I'll try to swing around if I can, but no promises. At the very least, I'll try to squeeze in a cup sometime the week if we happen to flatline a cyberpsycho in the area. Sorry."

"I understand," You replied with a patient nod. "Please don't worry, I have a feeling you'll enjoy the experience much more when in need than in haste. We look forward to servicing you then."

"Hah. Believe me, I'll definitely need it then!" With that, the call ended and the glow faded from your eyes, allowing you to refocus on the passing terrain outside the bus window. There a slight bump in the road that jostled you forwards for a moment, but your gaze remained locked to the large fields teeming with crops just beyond the road. This was Tarumizu, a part of the Kanoy Agricultural District that fed Kagoshima, and you had business here today.

You stepped off the bus and idly shielded your eyes from dust kicked up by the departing vehicle's wake. It would be some time before the next bus arrived out here, so you had plenty of time to start walking to Ochu Plantation. According to the digital map projected in your opticware, it was going to be a bit.

In that time, you got a chance to truly experience what the more rural areas of Kagoshima felt like. It was a rather jarring experience, have seen the landscape transform from an urban jungle to suburban neighborhoods to rural fields in only a matter of a dozen miles. It was certainly a sight that could never exist in Kyoto, where the most sparse one could get was preserved traditional streets. Everything else was urbanized to make up for where sacrifice was made to maintain ancient history.

Here in Kagoshima, there was no such restraint, and so these fields could sprout and grow in the warm subtropical climate of Kyushu. You were even wearing much looser clothes along with a sunhat to adjust, and still you worked up a small sweat in your leisurely walk. This really feels so much different to Central Japan, You mused and looked up to the sky, feeling the sun's rays brush over your face. I'm sure that right now, I probably look like the poster child for a summertime memory piece of fiction.

After a moment of indulgence, you shook your head and refocused on the task at hand. A few more steps, then you were sure you arrived at your destination. It had to be Ochu Plantation, because while the neighboring fields were growing the telltale yellow crops of wheat, this field was a sea of green leafy plants, the sort that resembled what went into making tea.

You stepped closer to have a better look at one of the plants, bending over to study it with an appreciative hum.

(Botany Impressions: 49 +15 (Intelligence) +12 (Rank 6 Botany) = 76)

"Oh, you're a healthy one," You murmured, gentling trailing your finger down the stem. But then you frowned when you felt several bumps and you peered closer, spotting that they were all buds in development, looking to bloom one day into flowers to spread their pollen and seeds. But there was an issue.

There were too many of them. You chewed your lip, then reached into your schoolbag to draw a small utility knife. With careful precision, you began to cut away the excess buds, making sure to not cut too deep to harm the plant itself. Only the buds were carefully carved out and tossed onto the ground to make sure the nutrients would return to the soil. Once all but one was left, you stepped back and admired your work with a pleased nod. Now, the sole bud would have all of the plant's nutrients flowing into it to develop into a flower, concentrating to create an even more beautiful bloom than if it were spread out among many others.

You took the moment to bask in satisfied feeling of a job well done when an amused voice spoke up. "Well now, you certainly are a trained botanist of sorts. Fine work there." You nearly dropped your knife in shock, then turned sheepishly to face a grinning face. A moment later, your opticware helpfully provided useful police information to identify who you were talking to.

Name: Ooyama Banri
Job: Farmer
Affiliation: Ochu Plantation
Talent: Tea Brewing

The last bit had you pause for a moment, but you pushed it aside to do a proper greeting bow to rather androgynous-looking young man. "My apologies if I overstep, but I couldn't help myself. I was drawn to how beautiful your plants looked and wanted only to lend some aid."

"Ah, no worries. If anything, your skill is very apparent." He bowed back in greeting and formally introduced himself. "Ooyama Banri. I'm who you've likely been in contact the deets with via email, my father who owns the plantation isn't very sociable."

"Anzai Yuuki," You politely returned and studied him, noting that while he was dressed like a fieldworker, his hands looked surprisingly clean. His body language was lax and at ease, meaning he definitely was welcoming to your presence. "I'm here to get to know my supplier better."

"Oh? Let's head to the house and talk it over some tea then." The mention of the beverage seemed to energize Banri and he whistled a little tune as he walked through the fields of tea crops. You followed closely by, observing how there were a few other workers carefully working at weeding the crops. They all seemed to resemble Banari in one way or another and tossed cheerful waves his way while odd looks in your direction.

When you arrived at the house, it was tiny in comparison to the large building complexes that you had seen. But that was only in comparison, because it still was a rather large sprawling traditional mansion in its own right. You followed protocol in taking off your shoes and hanging up your hat while Banri just kicked off his boots to head inside, shouting about a visitor and setting some tea.

Honestly, just the gesture alone made you sure that not only was this a family home, but a warm one that made you slightly envious of what Lycoris took away.

Moments later, one of the doors slid open to reveal a much older man who had to be Banri's father, the owner of Ochu Plantation. He looked your way and his eyes wandered to your hands, which were still slightly covered in sap from cutting at the plant's buds. You shifted about, feeling a judging gaze directed at you.

(Owner Impressions: 24 +15 (Empathy) +20 (Green Hands) = 59)

He nodded once, satisfied, then closed the door. Not a moment later, Banri returned carrying a small tray of tea, just barely catching the motion of the door closing. "Oh, he approves of you! That's good."

"He shows approval by not talking to me?" You pointed out with a raised eyebrow and the young man shrugged.

"Again, not very sociable. He's a veteran of the Fourth Corporate War, so it's a small miracle he still managed to find a partner and settle down after it all. If he's fine with you, you may as well consider yourself a choom with us!" Banri offered a cup and you gingerly accepted. After a moment, you took a sip and found that your cyberware certainly hadn't lied, it was very good, without a hint of bitterness at all. You complimented it so and the man smiled. "Nova. It's always fun to see people light up when they take a sip of what I make with our crops, and it's what pays the bills. But I think you're the one we're actually not selling tea, but flowers to, if I remember the deets."

"Indeed, I'm opening up a flower cafe and you came highly recommended," You mentioned and glanced at the fields, imagining the flowers blooming from all the tea plants before you. Some even were already doing so. "I'll be buying flowers from you in bulk to put on display and sell to customers in the city. Is this agreeable?"

"Honestly? We usually sell out of tea, but not out of flowers, and we usually end up having to recycle them all into compost." Banri waved his hand dismissively and nodded. "If you still want it, we'll sell it to you at a good price. We harvest all year round thanks to genetic engineering, so it's unlikely we'll ever run out if that's what you need."

"It's certainly an arrangement that benefits us all," You easily agreed. "You get some extra money, I get my flowers, and we both walk away with profit."

"Then it's settled, no question about it! Absolutely preem!" He paused, then frowned. "Ah, but you came all the way out here. That's a great deal of effort, and I don't think it's right you're just walking away the same as before. We'd be gonks to not send you off with something more."

"I'm fine with it, I got to know my supplier face-to-face," You gently reassured. "You don't need to do anything drastic because I came out here."

"Just hold on before you delta, I think we might have something in storage that you might be interested in." Banri insisted and left you to sit alone on the front porch for now. You finished off his tea and casually placed the empty cup aside, the slight clinking echoing through the scene as a nice little accent. Indeed, it was another picturesque scene where you sat back and inhaled, enjoying the pleasant scent of the countryside.

Then the simple enjoyment was broken when somebody different approached. "Huh. Little bro actually getting an output now?" You cracked open an eye and nearly did a double-take when what appeared to be a carbon copy of Banri stood there, this time looking a bit more feminine but rugged. Your opticware helped you quickly figure out this wasn't him, but rather a very close relative.

Name: Ooyama Umi
Job: Farmer
Affiliation: Ochu Plantation
Talent: Explosives

You perhaps stared at the last line for a little longer than you should've, but you quickly recovered with a greeting bow of the head. "Hello. I'm just a new business looking to work with your family for supplies."

"Really? Is that it?" Umi asked, a clear note of doubt in her face. "You look a little young to be a business owner. You sure you're not still in school with that bag?"

Your hand absently brushed the side of your Lycoris schoolbag, where a single flick could reveal the holstered pistol. "Oh, it's just what I carry with me at all times. It's quite handy. Rest assured, I'm very much a graduate."

She studied you with a raised eyebrow. "Is that so." A moment later, the distrust morphed into curiosity. "Say, where about in the city are you from? Someplace exciting?"

"Kamoh Gardens." That earned a groaned and shake of the head from Umi that had you tilting your head. "You don't like that area?"

"It's a bit too uptight for me. I like hanging around in the Kirshima Distract instead." She flashed a grin. "It's a lot more preem. Maybe you should loosen up and hit it up as well?"

"Maybe you should stop hassling our business partner into taking you into the city, sister." Banri finally reappeared, carrying a thick catalog with a disapproving look. "Please, let me handle the business side of things."

"Aw, and here I was really hoping you two were input and output." She cheekily stuck out a tongue at her brother and gave a small nod your way. "Later."

"My apologies if she decided to rough you up in any way. She's always looking for ways to skip work and have fun in the city." Your business contact shook his head and handed over the catalog. You took it and immediately seized up at what the antiquated order forms were offering. "Ah, thought so. You definitely are interested in these, right?"

"Flower seeds!" You blurted out with visible excitement. "You carry them in stock?"

"Not necessarily, but we do have old partnerships with various other families around the world that do." He pointed out the various species being described, along with a brief description. "I made some calls while pulling this out, and I think we could get some seeds along with a shipment we're supposed to be expecting sometime soon. If you place a seed order with us, we can then deliver the seeds along with the flowers you're buying up."

"That's a great idea," You eagerly told, then frowned. "What kind of seeds then can you get me now?"

"Unfortunately, they only had one in stock, but I think it's a rather fitting one. You seem to be a fan of this flower, given your little bag." He gestured and you glanced at the very distinct symbol at the center of it. "Lycoris Radiata, or the Red Spider Lily as it's been called. If you're willing to pay, say, 200 eddies, we can pass on some seeds to you. A fair warning though, that from what I understand, these seeds are sterile and thus will only bloom for one generation without leaving anything behind."

"Corporate genetic engineering?" You blandly guessed and Banri grimaced.

"The good of faster growth comes with the bad of sterile seeds. Sorry."

You sighed, then made a decision.

[ ] [Flowers] Red Spider Lily Seeds (200 eb)

[ ] [Flowers] Buy nothing.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- Genetic engineering means that you won't have to wait until fall for it to bloom, so don't worry about needing to consider the season when planting flowers. Just plant what you want to grow, maybe tend to it, and then harvest.

"How...fateful," Mitsu finally settled on delicately saying when you showed off your newest acquisition. "Is their cultivation in your future?"

"Maybe." You studied the packet of seeds and hummed. "It'll take about a month for these to bloom once I put them in the ground. Do you think I should time the cafe opening just as they become flowers themselves?"

"It would be most fitting, but it is your choice." Then a wide grin split open on your roommates face and she bounced up and down. "Just as it was your decision to request training from me! How exciting!"

You returned her smile and stowed away the seeds. Then you grabbed the practice bokken she had graciously bought and readied yourself, checking to make sure the furniture was out of the way. "So, where do we start?"

(The Way: 13 +10 (Reflex) +15 (Mitsu) = 38)

Mitsu tried her best, but it was very clear that you were her very first student. She tried to show you basic stances, then got sidetracked into how and when to use various stances that you didn't quite catch on. Afterwards, she then explained the importance of becoming focused, which led to a rather confusing angle about the benefits of meditation and self-study. At the end of it all, you didn't learn a single useful thing that could actually be useful in a practice spar, let alone a real fight.

"My deepest apologies," Your roommate miserably mumbled when you finally called a time-out to reassess. Mitsu pressed her hands together and studied them with a depressed look. "I am a warrior, not a tutor. It goes to show that I may walk the way of the blade, but I cannot yet pass it down to others. Maybe I am unworthy to do so."

"Don't be like that," You insisted with a shake of the head, trying to reassure your partner. "It's your first time. I'm sure if we keep at it, you'll figure it out. It's not like we started out with precision shooting either growing up."

"Maybe I should seek inspiration from those," She lightly joked, mood returning. "Recall those exercise booklets? The coloring ones."

"Yeah, where we actually had to color code the ideal areas of where to shoot on the human body for maximum effect." You paused, then shared a look with your fellow Lycoris graduate. "That was pretty messed up, wasn't it?"

"It was early tutelage that made us desensitized to the idea," Mitsu admitted with a shrug. "Much easier to revert to training when the moment dawns."

"I suppose so." You sighed and shook your head. "Now I wish that they also provided business training. I've got to take care of all the smaller details to finalize what we need to open up the shop."

"Oh!" Mitsu perked up. "Might I lend some aid? Would you welcome some input?"

"Why not? Maybe you'll help me figure out just how much I have to pay to finally be ready to open."

(Organize Details: 51 +15 (Intelligence) +5 (Mitsu) = 71)

Her help was admittedly more motivational than actually useful, but you had a good grasp of the numbers yourself already. With some keen calculations, you manage to pin and narrow down your final costs to a very manageable number, one that was primarily determined by the largest final expenditure of it all: uniforms. You estimated that no matter what you choose, the final price altogether was a neat and tidy 1000 eurodollars to acquire uniforms of varying sizes and tweaks so that it could be unique to each employee, yet still easily identifiable as employee attire.

Now came the big question, one that you turned to Mitsu with a teasing look. "Can I ask you a question?"

"Hm? Yes, naturally."

"How would you feel if my cafe had maid or butler employees?" You delighted in watching your roommate choke and glow crimson at the thought. When she began flailing at you with mortified sputters, you laughed and cheekily grinned. "Just joking. Unless…"

"You have a traditional kittasen!" She squawked and jabbed her finger at the drawn up proposals. "You could easily pivot and use traditional wear as well! Yukatas and kimonos, of all different colors and patterns!"

"It's rather hot down here though, and wearing that cotton might be uncomfortable."

"Then use synthetic!" Mitsu pointed out and you conceded the point with a hum. "Or modify it so later down the line."

"Is that your preference then?" A pause, then a final jest was thrown out. "Or should I start having kunoichi attires?'

Mitsu's form blurred, then disappeared and you could hear the door to her room sliding shut a moment later. You chuckled and returned to the screen, humming as you eyed up your options. They were all admittedly tempting and you could see yourself ordering the others for theme nights. You also could just choose to go casual and allow your workers to wear whatever they like (so long as it was appropriate), and just put that money instead into miscellaneous improvements.

You hummed and considered what you wanted to do.

[ ] [Uniform] Traditional Wear. Colorful yukatas and kimonos are always stylish uniforms even in the present age. It's normally a bad idea considering the subtropical climate, but advancements in fabrics make it possible to make it trap less heat while not sacrificing any of the texture itself. These same improvements can also feature customized color shifting for every wearer to tailor however they like.

[ ] [Uniform] Professional Attire. Given the location in a rather corporate neighborhood, it might be worth considering having uniforms that matched others in the area. Neatly pressed shirts with dress pants or skirts, and a tie to boot, it would certainly give an air of professional barista and florists. Though it could perhaps be a bit too much for the more casual bystander.

[ ] [Uniform] Matching Merchandise. It's actually possible to design custom shirts that featured the cafe's logo, and then have the workers wear them. A bit tacky perhaps, and it does give off a 'chain establishment' sort of feel, but it could work to selling shirts on the side. Money is a nice balm for dignity.

[ ] [Uniform] Service Costume. There's a certain sort of appeal to service uniforms such as maid dresses and butler suits that immediately draws attention. Perhaps it's the fantastical feel to them, allowing for one to really disconnect with the outside world and just enjoy the experience within the cafe. It can also highlight how each employee responds to such situation to invoke favorites among customers.

[ ] [Uniform] Casual Outfits. There won't be an actual uniform to the cafe other than perhaps a simple apron with some simple lettering. The workers are free to wear whatever they so pleased so long as they keep it appropriate, allowing them to easily slip into the job without even worrying if they are up to uniform code. Such casualness will hopefully encourage a very free atmosphere to the setting as well.

- Shorter today, but not much to what's going on right now. Hopefully though, this vote should be enticing enough to make up for it!

[X] [Uniform] Service Costume.

You carefully hung up the last of your new employee uniforms up on a clothing rack, and then stepped back with an appraising eye and pleased expression. You had been rather lucky in finding a good deal on these new outfits with your careful budgeting and had gotten a number of them via bulk order. You likely wouldn't have to order anymore in the immediate future for now, thought that might change if your staff ballooned one day.

As it was, you had your pick of the lot. You hardly were going to be the shop owner that stuck out like a sore thumb by not wearing one of the uniforms. But now came a critical question: which one did you prefer? The dress, or the suit? You took one of each off the rack and hummed in thought, holding each to your body and checking out the appearance in the mirror. Both honestly looked rather good on you, now being a debate of cute versus cool.

You caught movement in the corner of your eye and inspiration struck. You carefully tucked both outfits behind your back and stepped out of the backrooms to address Mitsu, who had apparently just returned home from a ride around the city. "Welcome back, partner. Good ride?"

"Indeed! I feel like I have a better grasp of the local neighborhood now." She showed off a grin when her helmet came off. "Soon, I shall be seeking ways to protect the innocent and deliver righteous justice!" Mitsu happily declared, clearly excited to be pursuing a part of her dream now.

Idly, and slightly selfishly, you wondered if it could be enough to sate the other part, to wander the world. You shook that off for now and focused your attention at her beaming face. "I'm glad to hear. I've also got good news to share: my new work uniforms have come in."

"Oh! That is indeed exciting news!" Then her eyes narrowed and you couldn't help the cheeky grin on your face. "Hold on, what have you ordered-"

"Only what I promised," You gleefully revealed and showed off your newest acquisitions. You teasingly held up both to drape over your form, clearly trying them out. "So, what do you think? Which one do you think suits me better?"

Unfortunately, you never got a response to that question. The moment you unveiled your new uniform, Mitsu let out a strangled choke and stumbled backwards, face glowing red in a near-mirror of the cyberware on her back. Then the back of her legs hit one of the chairs and she fell back with a panicked cry, just in time for her cyberware to activate.

You weren't quite sure what happened when you blinked, but suddenly what was once a clean table set with chairs became suddenly knocked over in a loud clatter that echoed through the cafe. The furniture hit the ground and rolled about on their round surfaces, one eventually coming to a stop when it hit a body on the ground. The body in question was of course Mitsu, whose face was planted firmly against the floor that was rapidly turning red.

You swore and tossed the uniforms to the side to fetch the first-aid kit. Thankfully, it was just a broken nose that didn't become misaligned, so some ice was all that was needed to help ease the pain. Mitsu waved aside your frantic apologies with a sigh and long look at the uniforms. "Tis fine," She mumbled and left for her room, clearly wanting some alone time.

You watched her go and bit your lip, hoping that her mood would be restored later. Hopefully, you hadn't actually upset her. For now, perhaps it was best to respect her wishes while you tried to figure out what you wanted to do in the last week of the month.

-[ ] [Kagoshima Fragrance] Grand Opening: All the preparations are finished, and you're ready! Formally open the doors to your newest venture and behold the results of your labors. Then get to work to try and begin making some revenue.

Take a visit to see if you can buy some new flower seeds from them.

Flower Cultivation
-[ ] [Flower Cultivation] Ocha Plantation: A tea plantation that supplies your cafe with seasonal flowers in bulk, one of your shop's main products. Take a visit to see if you can buy some new flower seeds from them.

-[ ] [Flower Cultivation] Sow Seeds: You've got your hands on some seeds that you want to begin growing! Take some time to till the soil, plant the gardens, and watch new life being to sprout.
--[ ] Red Spider Lily

[ ] [Flower Cultivation] Tend to Gardens:
Devote a part of your week entirely to making sure you tend to the gardens as diligently as possible, plucking out weeds and making sure each sprout gets just the right amount of water and conditions to grow splendidly.

None

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- If you choose to do a grand opening, there will be an initial roll to see how much your place draws attention, based on how much effort you've put into advertising it. Unfortunately, your current bonus to that roll is a +0 at the moment. Up to you to decide if you want to risk the die there.
- For those worried/wanting to press what's up with Mitsu about the outfits, just spend time with her with what you know she'll not turn down.
- Consider that at the start of your next turn, you will have to pay your monthly bills.

Six hour moratorium to make a weekly plan.
