Democracy's Torch (Sky plays Darkest Hour)

I hope we all don't go SPD. I only picked it because it was close to my own political views.

SV in general is fairly left leaning. I'm not very surprised honestly.

Does fit the SPD being the (slightly) largest party as well.

And since it's the only liberal option because late-period Weimar...

(I mean, the only other real options from a democratic standpoint are the DNVP, the Zentrum (which is Catholic and centrist) and the BVP. Which is largely a Bavarian splinter of the Zentrum)

Secret female, maybe. Like Anne Bonny. Disguised as a man.
1. Google 'New Woman of Weinmar'.
2. Nope. 35 female deputies as of 1935, no secrecy involved. Weinmar was actually more progressive than the US, UK, and other European countries of the time in terms of national representation.
HAMBURGER

Also, apparently in Weimar Germany, women were elected to office.

Which means I can now be girl. Yaay :D

Which party provides more naval support? I'm sticking with them, largely because I want carriers.
Whatever party is in control, has their person as Minister of Defense, and Sky decides to make them. Because the military needs the money to make those and Sky's playing the game.
So vote for your local Socialist Democrat representative today!

1. Just wait, SV will fill those historical thirty-five female representatives of the Reichstag. We shall be known as the Anime Block.:V
2. I swear those images look familiar...

More seriously and less jokingly:

DNVP is the militarist group. Clearly, as this is a war game, I will be building them either way. Because carriers rule the waves. However, DNVP is the one that will get military growth going faster than the other two major parties. It's kind of one of their major planks.

(this being said, this is a Germany that almost elected the Nazis. Being remotely pacifist isn't going to fly very well if you want them out of power)

Do we have to be SPD/Zentrum/DNVP or may we also choose smaller parties, such as the BVP, with the understanding that we would in most circumstances be voting together with one of the major parties?

That's kinda the way a parliamentary democracy runs, Parties working together for a majority, so I would think so.

If you want a smaller party, be it BVP or another smaller party, you can choose them. The only ones outright off limits are the Nazis and Commies. Because electing either one of those equals GAME OVER from a democratic standpoint.

Name: Wolfgang Hochstetter

Age: 35
Appearance: Tall, brown haired, blue eyed man, has a limp due to a wound in his right leg, which necessitates a cane.

Name: Reinhard von Smalhausen
Party: DNVP
Age: 37
Appearance: Average height, platinum blond hair, green eyes with the largest size monocle available. Former Kaiserliche Marine officer, attached to Adm Hipper's staff in WWI. Pro-monarchy with the von Wittelsbachs as the new Kaiser.

I haven't read a good HoI 2 AAR in ages. This is good.

So, on to making a character.

Name: Dr. Hans-Jörg Hoffman
Party: Zentrum
Age: 48
Appearance: Short and portly, brown hair with significant widow's peaks. Near-sighted, wearing his trademark thickly-rimmed black spectacles.
Short Biography: Born in Halle an der Saale (Sachsen-Anhalt) as the eldest child in 1882 to catholic parents Eberhard and Elfriede Hoffman. Graduated from Gymnasium in 1900 to study and then finish his doctorate of law at the Martin Luther University. Served as a federal prosecutor until 1917, and served as a Leutnant of Artillery until 1918. Turned to politics in the wake of the Great War, joining Zentrum both as a pious catholic and as a mediation-focused politician.
Family: Sybille Hoffman (wife), Josef "Sepp" Hoffman (Son), Klaus Hoffman (Son), Maria Hoffman (Daughter)

Very much a coalition-happy centrist, unless your ideology shits on religion (fascists and communists), in which case he will tell you to GTFO.

Name: Torsten Ritter von Tunau
Party:
BVP
Age:
42
Appearance:
Tall, but also somewhat fat, with dark brown hair and brown eyes. His usually smiling face is marred by a handful of scars, the product of a Russian artillery shell. He is usually seen wearing the Knights Cross of the Military Order of Max Joseph, which he won while serving with the Bavarian Cavalry Division.

Name: Markus Krähe
Party: Zentrum (Center Right)
Age: 32
Appearance: 170cm (~5' 7"), thin, light brown hair, brown eyes, short straight hair with a light beard.
Bio: Born to minor Catholic nobility in Karlsuhe, Baden, nearly his entire family fought in the great war. After the war ended only him and his mother were still alive. His father and brother both were killed during the Spring Offensive of 1918. Markus was only spared because of his interest in machines which, along with his stubbornness, lead him to work with the early tanks behind the front lines. After the war and during the 1918-19 revolution he and his mother were ran off their property by communist extremists. Ever since then he has despised the communists and held faint disdain for the SPD and their anti-monarchical actions. Finding himself having to provide for his aging and depressed mother, he struggled in the gutted remains of the Rhein Valley. As of 1933 he has managed to climb up to the roles of middle-manager in the Krupp Corporation and now a minor representative in the Reichstag.

Not to mention, as part of the catholic party, the SPD's repeated public demands for free contraception and the legalization of abortion should touch a nerve or three.
But the SPD also supported welfare and housing for war-widows, so it evens out. Or maybe Frau Krähe was denied support because she had one son left, in which case Markus would be pretty anti-socialist.

I struggled deciding on either center-left or center-right but based on the back story I gave my character I had to choose center-right. I consider myself center-left (at least in the American spectrum so take that as you will) so I have a slight bias there. I tried constructing the argument that having been for all intents and purposes homeless for a while made him sympathetic to those less fortunate (and thus lean left) but with him being Catholic, ex-nobility (even if minor), staunchly anti-communist, and tied with Krupp, it sort of forced my hand ...

Aaaaand.... Germany's now run by anime girls. Somehow this doesn't surprise me, SV.

That said, *Desire to know more intensifies*

Speaking of democracy, which sequence of events results in catgirls? Surely we can scrounge up some morally-dubious scientists in the Reich to make wafus real.
(I should stop before Sky gets mad at me, but I won't.)
