Prologue

My awakening was surprisingly pleasant all things considered. I didn't come to myself like in the stories, with a sudden shock, nor was I awake and aware from the moment of my birth. In fact, if anything, the first concept I remembered was…

Purpose.

I had been brought here for a reason and that reason, that purpose had been encoded down to my very bones, I saw this, acknowledged it, accepted it.

You are the chosen.

And then there was a presence before me, it surrounded me, laid bare all my sins, my weakness alongside my strengths and blessings. It soothed me and cleared my mind, dispassionate.

You will bring hope to the fallen, the broken, and the lost.

It gave me balance, my life came before me, like a puppet show in fast forward, I watched it all without emotion.

War rages across the infinite, light and darkness, chaos and order, hate and love.

Before this point I saw nothing, a sensation impossible to explain, as even when you're eyes are closed, you can see the darkness. But I did not, as if i had never known sight. How can you explain to a man who has been blind all his life, what color is? What vision is?

And then there was Light.

It came upon me, agonizing and soothing, like a warm blanket in cold weather, with knives and spikes sewn into the lining.

Oh mighty bearer, I grant you the gift of the Light, for you have been judged, and found worthy.

I felt no pride, simply acceptance. This was my purpose.

Now awaken bearer; your purpose is vast, your duty long.

Bring hope to the hopeless, faith to the faithless.

Show fate that there is more to the story of life, than simply ending.

And remind the darkness, that dawn always comes.

It had been a week since my awakening in this new world. A week fraught with confusion, worry and more than a little terror. Its one thing to wake up in a new world, having been taken from your old one, given power and purpose and a new life. It was another thing all together to find a flier on my coffee table advertising the the final application date for Beacon Academy.

I admit, my calm broke more than a little when I realized the enormity of what I was looking at.

Who could stay calm knowing that you lived on a deathworld that was actively trying to kill you? I had a lot of work ahead of me, the Naaru apparently were adherents to the 'sink or swim' school of thought when it came to their champions, they had granted me knowledge, but not skill. Most of the time when these sort of stories happens its always through a convenient unnamed entity that was swapping bodies across the universes for the funsies. 'Foolish mortal, I've granted you power through the illusion of choice for my own continued amusement'.

I'm not so lucky, or unlucky I guess.

For one thing I'm not in a giant robot capable of using planets as projectiles of convenience while waging galactic war. I'm still not sure if that was a good thing or a bad thing.

Not that I was all that bad off really. The Naaru who… blessed me, granted me significant potential in wielding the holy light, and I had a suspicion I would not be so limited in its use as people are back in Azeroth. It didn't help me now, all I had was potential, I would have to unlock it, grow into it and gain experience in its use, on my own. Thankfully I had been granted the knowledge of how to do that, which involved a lot of meditation.

A lot. Of. Meditation. Almost one week of my new life passed without me even leaving my apartment, I woke in the morning and meditated, I made food for myself, then meditated. I went to bed and meditated. It wasn't without reason however. Most new adherents to the light needed between six months to five years just to complete all the steps simply to unlock access the power within them. I didn't have the benefit of taking that long. Having seen the series, I knew death could come at any time.

You see, to open yourself to the Light is not an easy thing, because before the Light will come to you, you have to bare yourself completely to it. Wielding the Light isn't about commanding it, or demanding from it, or even asking of it. It's about acceptance. Acceptance of yourself, fully and unconditionally, and acceptance of others, fully and unconditionally. This acceptance is what will allow the light to flow into you, for that's what it is. Many look at the Light and see it as a religion, but that isn't what it is. The Light doesn't care about worship. It doesn't care about adherence to arbitrary values or rules, all the light cares about, is acceptance. When two people accept each other, it forms bond, and the Light strengthens. The more people join this gestalt, the stronger and more powerful the Light becomes, and the easier it is to tap into it. Ironically the closest thing I can think of is the Orcish WAAAGH!, except instead of a desire for war, it brings a desire of acceptance and understanding, a fostering of community. Thus it spreads between peoples and communities, a web of light to encompass and comfort the world.

---

The first step, is to accept that you are different from all others, and as such as flawed an existence as all others. You must acknowledge your actions, your thoughts, your desires, for what they are, good and bad. Pride has no place, fear, hate, pleasure, determination.

All irrelevant.

The next step is to take this acceptance of yourself, and turn it onto the people around you. Accept that people are different, they have different thoughts, desires, upbringings, and then accept that even if all those things are anathema to you, it doesn't mean that they are wrong, or evil. Every living being is unique, but these differences are not meant to separate us, but to bind us together. Every puzzle piece is unique, but all have a place that is meant for them, fitting in with the pieces around it.

The final step, is both the easiest and the hardest. The previous meditations where for the single purpose of bringing your mind closer to the Light, now it was simply a matter of accepting the Light into yourself. This sounds so delightfully simple, but its not. If you suddenly grew a limb you never had before, how would you how to use it? Your mind would have no idea what neurons to fire to get any sort of reaction, even if you know its there.

But that was thankfully not a problem for me. I had been given the direct blessing of a Naaru, I already knew the feeling. I found that little thread in the back of my mind, and I followed it all the way to the well of power within me.

And then I poked it.

It was an indescribable feeling, the suffusion of pure goodness that saturated every cell in my body, it was like riding out a hurricane in a raft in the middle of the ocean, except instead of water and wind, it was power and light and mercy and compassion.

When I eventually returned to my body, I found myself crying, and yet at peace in a way I had never thought possible. That wasn't what was taking my attention however, for in my cupped hands a tiny ball of light floated gently.

-Prologue End-

AN: Comments, critiques, suggestions are all welcome. Lets see what someone with a bit of meta knowledge and the power of the Light can do In a target rich environment like Remnant eh?

So he's basically got both the options for a paladin and a priest. Nifty.

One of the bigger problems that I think will come up is that the Light heavily encourages an ideal character, one with few character flaws, or to put it another way, a boring goody-two-shoes. Sure most characters in Warcraft are nothing like that, but then they didn't describe it that way either.

Would the social link kind of system be part of why the priests and paladins usually formed orders of their own? In which case, he's going to have a hard time of it in Remnant. The governments, academies and basically everyone else is going to loathe the idea of another autonomous group with power. Unless you went a similar route to Raven and had a semi-nomadic clan of people wandering the earth, beyond the reach and attention of most groups.

In any case, we shall see.

That's the interesting bit, and it's why I chose to emphasize acceptance as the unlocking factor. The way I view it, this interpretation of the light is morally neutral positive. It's not a concept bound to good or evil. There can be a murderous psychopath who could still accept who he is, and accept that those who are not himself as simply other pieces of the puzzle and are not any more or less than he is, then he has accomplished the first two stages. If he can then accept the bond of community that those realizations bring about, then he could potentially wield the Light.

It would be unlikely. But it could happen if the stars aligned.

As for the community aspect, wait and see.

An... interesting start to a SI. We'll have to see more in the future to really know whether we'll stick it out or not.

Well here's waiting for your SI to learn Resurrect/Redemption. That is practically the most important spell to learn given just how useful it is.

I like self-insert stories and I'm interested in stories where the SI gains powers of one verse and ends up in another. I like seeing how the people of that world react to the power that the SI has. I'm curious about where you are going to go with this story and what abilities that the Light will give him. I know that he can heal and form protective barriers with it, but I'm wondering what else. Like how will it affect the Grim since they seem to be made out of Darkness. I wonder will you try and enter Beacon or will you do your own thing until plot, I mean Ozpin or Salem try to 'talk' to him.

Oh thank you, thank you, thank you! This is an amazing premise that seems to hit me in the heart wanting for more.

Thanks for this, I really enjoy stories that explore Warcraft power sources beyond the basic class abilities.

Watched.

As long as your conviction stays strong and you do not doubt either your goal or your methods the light will answer your call regardless of any other circumstance.
Its how people like the Scarlets can gleefully pursure genocide against all who oppose them and still wield the Light without diminishing their power.
Or how even undead and demons, beings to whom light in any form is poison, can channel it if their conviction is strong enough.
Morality has nothing to do with the ability to wield the light.
