It's mostly their flight ability mixed with their other abilities.

A War Angel flies really fast compared to Demons, as well as the fact their Presence ability heals them as well. And they stack. Two War Angels will gain 1000 healing per turn and deal 1000 damage per turn when working together. Three would go to 1,500 while four would be 2,000. It stacks fast. If there are six in an area, you'd have to one-shot one to start actually killing them. Add in their High Speed Combat, they can also both fly faster than Hell Beasts, as well as operate far easier at those kinds of speeds than Hell Beasts can due to their lack of High peed Combat.

I also forgot to add the Boost-Self thing to their judgement spell since it's actually a buff instead of an actual offensive ability.
 
War Angels are more or less tailor made to slaughter Demons in large numbers. The only real thing keeping Hell and Heaven on equal grounds before they joined the War was the fact Heaven only had so many Angels they could throw at Hell.

Otherwise Hell would have gotten the shaft a long time ago.

So they sound like absolute monsters when teamed up, but the update called them out as the second best solo combatants around. is the flight speed really that bit of a thing?

Surprisingly, yes.

When moving at high speeds an individual has only so long to react to a development. High Speed Combat drastically improves the individual entity's ability to react at those high speeds, but only by so much. A combatant moving at relatively the same speed as a War Angel without HSC wouldn't be nearly as effective at following changes in battlefield conditions as a War Angel would be.

This. The five she fought were far lower in strength then her, but it doesn't change the fact that sheer speed allowed her to react to and attack five different opponents that were attacking her simultaneously.

Dark Green are the Fairy Home Realms. The star is their capital.

Light Green is the Elvin Empire. Again, star is their capital.

The mountains with the white top is Heaven.

Red mountains are Hell.

Dark Grey area is the Children of Nightmare.

Black area is Black Star. (duh)

And the white zones are the Unaligned Front.

The Unified Darkness actually has battle lines right on the door step of all but one capital of the 4 major races. That's pretty bad... :p

Not to mention, it seems like if the Unified Darkness chose to instead use the concentrated forces at Colony Hope to push around Earth, they could actually cut off support from everyone but the Angels. It would be tricky to maintain, but the Unified Light would have to focus on protecting the Fairy home realm as well.

I suppose the only thing stopping this would be 'Nuke to the back' (and maybe Gaia) but I'm pretty sure the Unified Darkness could come up with something eventually — what with Dark Stars being made of pure energy. And Children of Nightmare being literal Eldritch abominations.

First up the issue with Core Containment is that it's only really attractive as the prereq for Indestructible Core, which is a mountain of XP away. By itself jumping to CC 10 gives the following:
  • +150 health
  • +112.5 Damage Immunity
  • +562.5 Core Purge Damage
which while nice doesn't really compare with Reequip.

Reequip makes Team GEAR into murder machines. Our human teammates become as tough as War Angels (500BR), more damaging (1,250BD), and almost as healthy (2,500). They obvious lack the high speed flight and special ability that make War Angels so devastating but it's still very impressive.

Now imagine what our new Angel Teammate would be like...

A "Devine Being" is more along the lines of a walking mass of energy so dense they have a physical form.

A few have Divinity as an affinity, but it refers more to existences that operate on a planetary scale instead of a merely mortal one like the Eternal Conflict is. When one of them interfere on your level in any way, like sending one of their agents in to do whatever, it has far reaching consequences that might not be immediately obvious at the time.

For example, Gaia sends one of her WEAPONs to hit a Unified Light stronghold, causing the whole line to collapse, but two weeks later the Unified Darkness finds themselves so overstretched that the Unified Light sweeps in and devastates their everything in the theater and there's shit they can do about it. The opposite is also true.

When one of them does something, it' almost always going to cause large side effects in some way. Thus "Divine Beings".
