The world is not as it should be. Not as you know it.

"Attention!" A thousand feet stomp in unison as five hundred fists thump against five hundred chests. "Today, a member of your class has awoken. Rejoice for them!"

These people, though familiar, are not as you recognize them.

"Cadet Hebert, step forward!" The girl next to you, lanky, and clad in her uniform like everyone else, steps out in front of the class, posture rigid with nervousness, though her blank face doesn't show any of it. "This morning's Annual Scan identified you. As per standing regulations, you are hereby dismissed from this class. Should you choose to keep up with your studies, you will be assigned to an Advanced Class. Your parents have been notified. Dismissed."

Silently, Taylor salutes before turning on her heel and marching off. Quietly exiting the Winslow auditorium. Silence returns, but its not over. Principal Blackwell turns her eyes to you.

"Cadet Washio, step forward!" Three steps, and your standing before the class. Four hundred and ninety eight sets of eyes on your back as you try not to twitch. "This morning's Annual Scan identified you. As per standing regulations, you are hereby dismissed from this class. Should you choose to keep up with your studies, you will be assigned to an Advanced Class. Your parents have been notified. Dismissed."

You don't salute. You've never saluted. But you still turn. Still slowly march past the entire front rank of your class towards the door.

It is the longest ten feet of your life.

Hero. Vigilante. Rogue. Villain.

Parahuman.

This world is not as you know it. Though it is familiar, nothing is correct any more. Humanity is besieged on all sides, from both within and without. It is your duty to discover those differences. To identify what has changed and why. And if possible...

To save the world.

Your name is Misuki Washio. Or Washio Mizuki, if going by your oriental heritage. And you are...

[] The God of Destruction
A blaster/shaker combo that puts all others of the class to shame. In the vein of the terrifying Behemoth, where you walk, oblivion follows.

[] The Architect of Destiny
A tinker to end all tinkers. If you can imagine it, you can build it. Monuments to victory.

[] The Savior
The coming dawn. The one that brings victory. But you are forever cursed to stand alone at the pinnacle.

"Mizuki, why didn't you tell us?" Your mother hovers over you, a worried look on her face, even though your father is absent.

"I didn't want to worry you." You almost try shrinking in on yourself, but your mother is having none of that. Her arms wrap around you in a warm embrace that you're scared of being deprived of.

"Of course we would have worried. We would have been even more worried if you started running off without telling us what you were up to." You bury yourself into her hug instead of replying. It had been a childish thing, your desire to hide your Awakening. But it had been you choice, and you were determined to stick to it.

The front door opens with a clack from the deadbolt. "I'm home! Is Mizuki-chan already in?"

"We're in here, love. I haven't really talked much with her yet." You father enters the room, placing his suitcase down on the side table, but leaving his coat on. He is a tall man for his Japanese heritage. His brown hair, and brown eyes the source of your own, unlike your mother's blond hair and blue eyes.

"Well kid. I'd say congratulations, but that'd likely be more of an insult than anything considering what you'll be doing in the future." He sits behind you, wrapping one of his long arms around you and your mother. "I don't care what a lot of other parents think. Awakening isn't a blessing. Thanks to my job, I know how bad it can get out there. The Guardians need all the manpower they can get. But if you want to do something else, know that I'll stand by your decision whatever it is."

He doesn't say it outright, but you understand the implication. Instead of joining the Guardians and being a Hero, you could just as easily be a Villain instead. It is a choice that all Awoken must make after being discharged from their schools.

An unfair truth of the world: to be Parahuman is to be considered above the powerless masses. If you choose to be a hero, than you could get better schooling than any of your old classmates could ever hope to gain. Possibly even a better job as well. Should you choose to be a villain, you could lord your superiority over the huddled masses, and the only ones that could call you out on it would be other Parahumans.

All it would cost, was to answer the sirens.

[] What will you do? -Write in-

Welcome to Countdown: Armageddon!
In this Quest you play the role of recently 'Awoken' Parahuman Washio Mizuki. A former classmate of also recently Awoken Parahuman, Taylor Hebert. Your job, as one of the most powerful Parahumans on the planet, is to defend it from the things seeking to destroy it. Or, should you so choose, destroy it yourself. While this is the Worm Verse, it will not be as you remember it. Powers, and characters will be the same, but motivations will be different. Their positions along the lines of Good and Evil will not be where you remember them.

Something is wrong in this world. And it's your choice to find out what that something is and, if possible, fix it. Feel free to delve deeply into this twisted world, so different from Canon, or stay in the shallows as you wish. Just remember one thing though:

The Countdown has started. The End is coming. Will you fight to stop it? Or will you ensure it happens?

Character Sheet
Washio Mizuki
Alias: ???

Age: 16
Blood Type: O-
Lineage: None
Home: Brockton Bay
Special Note: [CLASSIFIED]

Powers

The Savior

Inheritor of the Fallen Spirit, yours is the power to have any power. No matter the enemy, you will have the strength to overcome them; an insurmountable bulwark to turn aside the tide and it's infinite numbers.

Mechanics: Each combat round, you may determine the five highest priorities upon the battlefield to take Washio's attention, in response, The Savior will grant Washio five powers to achieve perfect resolution of the chosen challenges.

Meta Info: Voting

Please note that all write-ins have to be detailed. But you also have to limit the amount of detail as to not draw too much in. Washio can and will happily ask all questions that make it through the vote, but if the question is worded weirdly, or vaguely, she will either stumble on it, or unthinkingly ask it as written.

For example, if the vote calls for her to ask for basic info on something, she'll do exactly that: ask for the basic "everyone should know this" info. What she won't do is follow up on any revealed information for clarification or expansion.

[Ex] -Basic info on cooking.

"Umm, how do I start cooking?"

"Turn on the stove."

"Oh... sorry."

Some people can also potentially give rhetorical or incorrect answers to given questions in order to mislead Washio and the players. So don't readily accept what everyone tells you as gospel. Also Washio won't actively call up the information she already has either. So if you want to figure out what she knows, you'll have to work for that as well.

Countdown - 1
[Today, the combing of the Canbarra Glass Zone was called off. With more than three hundred thousand still unaccounted for, the local Guardian garrison, down by more than seventeen capes from the battle, have declared the likelihood of anyone else surviving for two months in the Glassland as being 'possible, but unlikely'.

In other news, a bit closer to home, the Dockworker's Association-
]

You tune out the radio, focusing more on the little silver card in your hands. It's film wasn't any different from your previous ID, save for a tiny little symbol in the corner that marked it as something more. A little seven-pointed star that marked the holder as a Parahuman. "Do I really need this? I liked my other ID fine."

"You know why you had to replace it dear." Your mother replies from the front seat of the family vehicle. "There's nothing to it, you're a Parahuman now."

"Don't worry about it Mizuki. You'll get used to it."

'You'll get used to it,' your father says. As if you wanted to get used to being held as something higher than your former peers. "I... guess."

"Anyway, here we are. You sure this is what you want?" You look up, meeting your father's worried eyes. "Being a Guardian isn't going to be fun and games. Are you sure you can handle it?"

You look back down to the little silver plasti-card in your hand, with it's tiny little star. To be a Guardian. A Hero. To stand among their number and fight to hold back that seemingly endless darkness. Whether it be from Humanity's enemy, or Humanity itself.

To be a light.

"...Yeah. I'm positive."

Your fate has been sealed.

"You're clear. Orientation is on the fourth floor, one of the senior Guardian members will meet you their with the rest of your group." You almost flinch as the guard hands your new ID back, but manage to hold it together.

"My... group?"

He smiles at you. "You're not the only new Parahuman joining the Guardians. There's another girl, about your age. She arrived a few hours ago looking like she was ready to chew on bricks and spit nails." And with that the normal human, turns away and walks off. His thick kevlar body armor making a surprisingly small amount of noise.

You swallow and move past towards the elevator.

The conference room you eventually make your way to is... cliche. Cliche table, cliche chairs, cliche decorations. It didn't even have a window to the outside, though that was understandable. What you didn't expect to see was your classmate already inside and sitting at the table, with her fingers steepled in front of her mouth, and her eyes downcast in a sever look.

Taylor don't even look up as you enter.

"Um... Hello?" The much taller girl glances at the sound of your voice, but otherwise doesn't respond. Instead resuming her brooding. "Okay... then."It's hard to keep your spine straight. Taylor had always seemed unapproachable by the greater population of Winslow. Her friend, Emma, being the main point of contact anyone had with the serious girl. And, while she was still there, Sophia.

You tried not to think about what happened to Madison when she tried usurping Taylor's position as the 'Queen Bee'. You're still not sure if anyone really deserved what Taylor's 'minion' did to her, regardless of justification.

You sit as far away from her as you can, trying not to huddle into the corner.

Minutes pass.

Then hours.

Taylor doesn't move from her position. Eyes focused on some invisible spot on the table in front of her as if it held all the secrets of the world. 'How could she have been raised? To become something like this?' The thought is an idle one, but no less valid for being unspoken.

Taylor suddenly shifts, and you almost scream in surprise. Her eyes track past you to the door just in time to catch it opening.

Quietly hyperventilating, you barely notice when an older woman walks in. Her armored suit is a dark grey and white, with brilliantly glowing lines. You blink.

"Hebert." the hero, Battery, turns to look at you. "Washio?" You nod. "I'm here to walk you through orientation. There'll be a basic rundown for your duties, and after that we'll get you set up. Meet and greets, as well as power testing will all be held tomorrow."

Taylor stands from where she was sitting at the table, picking up a small box that you hadn't noticed, before moving around the table. You quickly clamber to your feet.

"Now, before we head out, are there any questions you'd like to ask? You might also want to come to a decision on whether you want to be housed here at the Rig, or go home at the end of the day."

[] Write in Questions - Also, do you want to live at home, or in the Guardian base?

(Your power is The Savior.
As the coming dawn, you are forever doomed to stand alone at the pinnacle, above all others. A life of solitude. But your presence will come to be seen as a sign of Victory and Salvation. Countdown - 2
"I'd like to live at home." Is your first response as you stand to join them. Taylor nods as well.

"I'd like that as well. Though with my mother's job you won't have to worry too much about it." You get the feeling she's a lot more nervous than her calm voice and serious demeanor say.

"That will be fine. If you ever want to go home early instead of waiting for your mother, we'll arrange a chauffeur. Though you'll have to finish your shift first."

"Understood."

"Um..." You raise your hand, catching Battery' attention. "This might be a weird question but... what exactly do the Guardians do? Outside of the Fights I mean. I never..." The two look at you for a moment with a slightly dazed expression, as if they had never considered someone wouldn't know the answer to your question. As the silence drags on for several seconds, you start to fidget.

Battery sighs, placing a hand over her face once her brain reboots while Taylor jerks herself back to reality. "The Guardians are a para-military organization formed to act as the first line of defense against the Tide." Taylor coughs into her hand. "Only in the last two decades, the organization moved from just military maneuvers against the Tide to aide in law enforcement and the betterment of civilization as a whole. Which is why Heroes are a thing. Parahumans that act to uphold Order as according to the standing laws of their native countries."

"Ah. Ok." You duck your head and Taylor fidgets, her hands slipping behind her back as she unconsciously takes a parade-rest pose. Battery in turn simply shrugs and turns out of the door.

"As junior members of the Guardians, you'll mostly be on support until you hit five months, or your first Tidal Incursion. Whichever comes up first. It'll be up to you if you'll take up hero work, or focus on training for Incursions. If you decide to do the former, we have a PR department to help you get started. You'll also want to talk to Armsmaster, real name Colin, as well. He's in charge of organizing patrol schedules for those of us that do Hero work."

Taylor leans over to whisper into your ear; "Just don't interrupt him while 'tinkering'. Mom says that's usually when he's with his girlfriend."

You blink. "Armsmaster has a girlfriend?"

The elevator that the three of you were walking towards snaps open with a hiss, revealing the stern-faced man. Who is looking right at you. "Yes. I do." You feel the blood drain from your face. "Despite popular opinion I am not A-Sexual. Tiffany, you and Ethan have Route F tonight." He pulls a folder that you had missed out from under his arm, handing it to Battery, "If pattern keeps, it's likely you'll run into a ABB attack on the Empire. Also, be aware; Battleline is going on about cultural appropriations again. Miguel had his hair up in dreadlocks, and Adam took exception about it."

"Great. Sherrel not reigning him in?"

"She's not here. Left this morning to a car show." And with that, he marches off, not even breaking step as he slips past you with an eerily efficient motion. Battery takes a single look down at the folder in her hand before sighing. She seemed to do that a lot.

"Tonight is going to suck. Common you two, let me introduce you to the rest of your team." She hits the fifth floor button as you and Taylor enter the elevator. "Washio." You half-jerk to attention. "How much do you know of the Squires?"

"Um... not much. Outside of the fact they're junior members of the Guardians."

She nods. "That's more or less what they are. They're set up to help younger Parahumans first learn their power in order to fight the Tide effectively. You'll be with them for your probationary period. You can stay past the five month mark, but movement into the main Guardian force is mandatory after your first Incursion. Though you can skip them if you're a part of the Squires." The elevator opens up to a wide room. An open doorway blasting music with excited shouts, while a mini-kitchen rested off to the side next to another open doorway that lead down a quite hallway. "This is the Squire barracks. While you're on the clock you'll report here first. From there you'll follow your schedule to training or meetings if you're called. Patrol rosters for those doing Hero Work are posted in the main lounge over there." She points to the door with all the noise. "Other than that, private rooms are down the hall to the right, one will be assigned to you eve if you stay at home for personal use."

[Battery, please report to the Commander. I repeat, could Battery please report to the Commander.]

"... And apparently people forgot I'm giving a tour to the new girls." She claps an armored hand onto your shoulder. "You two stay here until I get back. Get a snack if you're feeling hungry, or introduce yourself to your teammates. I'll be back soon."

You look at Taylor as Battery returns to the elevator, but the taller girl has already moved towards the mini-kitchen. Probably to get a snack like Battery suggested.

Now what?

[] Follow Taylor and get a snack.
-[] Talk to her? Write in what about.

[] Go introduce yourself to your new team.

[] Go exploring the barracks.

[] Stand there and look awkward.
