Coulson & Co. (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) in charge of the Initiative (Buffy the Vampire Slayer)

Instead of Maggie Walsh, Phil Coulson is put in charge of the Initiative during the events of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Coulson's team (as of the end of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 1*) also come along for the ride. They do not bring any S.H.I.E.L.D. gear with them.

How does this change affect the Buffy-verse?

Except that Fitz is not brain-damaged and Coulson is not affected by 'alien weirdness'

Coulson is near 100% guaranteed to better handle negotiating with Buffy compared to Initiative's mixed efforts.

Say hello to Buffy Summers, Agent of SHIELD. Level 1 to start off, but yeah.

Holy shit, the Hellmouth is so fucked. Coulson is... you know.

Actually competent and mostly not insane. (He's got a bit of an issue with that chitauri crap in his head)

He's also self aware enough that he's expecting to go off the deep end and forced May to promise to kill him if he went evil, so yeah, major plus points there.

Also, I'm thinking May could probably give Buffy, Faith and Kendra a run for their money... and that's before FitzSimmons cook up toys for everyone. (Wonder if ICERs would still work...)

Season 5 should go a bit easier, though there's still the problem of not really knowing about Glory. Season 6 should go completely differently, as a competent Initiative will pretty easily take down Warren and Co., meaning Willow won't go batshit crazy. Season 7 may or may not happen, depending on if Buffy still dies in season 5.
