No, at least on my part. He projects a fishing rod in Hollow Ataraxia; IIRC he did it to beat Lancer in a fishing contest or something.

And it was a modern fishing rod, with working electronics, to boot, IIRC.
I was actually referring to Pesci's stand.

Oh yeah, guys, don't forget to vote.

Going back over the couple of scenes where Archer is fishing at Lancer's choice of pier, I read nothing that would indicate that Archer projected such a high-tech fishing rod. In fact, it's implied that it's real, and not projected, since in a bet between Gilgamesh and Archer to see who'd catch more, they wagered Gilgamesh's fishing rod and Archer's high-tech reel.

know-nothing-fate question here, but being able to just chomp through what is supposed to be this grand mythical spear seems very foreboding. Or am I interpreting things wrong?

No, you are interpreting things exactly as foreboding as they should be. I had been intending for the Sebastian's reveal to come later, closer to the date when shit actually goes down, but I guess that cat's out of the bag now. If anyone here has seen the Netflix Godzilla trilogy - and if you have then you have my sincerest sympathies - I modeled the Sebastian's after Black Hole Ghidorah.

And if you haven't seen the Netflix Godzilla trilogy, don't bother wasting your time; they're terrible, easily the worst entries in the entire franchise's 65 year history.

I'm just assuming that it has some conceptual effect that allows it to cut through anything, so I'm having Archer keep his distance, with fodder in his hands just in case, while firing off conceptual weapons like the Black Keys to lock it down - hopefully - and Gáe Dearg at the wall that this entity is attatched to and the entity itself. If the entity is being spawned by the wall through some kind of summoning, as long as Gáe Dearg is embedded within it it should at least nullify the effect for the duration, if it can't outright dispel it, and who knows, maybe a clear shot at the thing with a Gáe Dearg will just dispel the thing. Luckily Archer can just shoot these things without ever touching them a la Gilgamesh.

Day 24 Chapter 8
[X] Enetious

"Well, what are your orders, master?"

Thus far, Archer has done a fair enough job representing his abilities to you accurately, and you had taken to assuming that his Traced weapons were of some special, higher magical quality. So to see his magic-cancelling spear bitten straight through by - at least you assume it to be - a familiar, is disconcerting, to say the least. And, it wasn't as though the thing had had any difficulty in biting through the spear, either; it's jaws sunk in, and that was that. If it, itself a being of magic, can bite through a magic-cancelling weapon, what else can it bite through?

You already know what it can do to flesh, if Archer's description of the victim's bite marks was anywhere in the realm of accurate. You, and anyone else you ask to help reinforce Archer, will have to proceed with caution. One among your team is already down two limbs, and your team as a whole is woefully short on ways to regenerate from grievous wounds. The one time having Sayaka on your team would be useful, too. You'll have to put pressure on one of your allies to pick up studying Uruz, if you yourself don't at some point.

"Engage the familiars in combat, but keep yourself at a safe distance from them. I'll try to get reinforcements if you think you need them."

"What about the squishies that are still in the middle of all this?"

"If you can extract them now, do so. If not, we'll have to think of another way to get them out later that won't piss off... Whatever those things are."

"Reinforcements would be nice, then. I can keep these things at bay well enough, but I don't know if I'll be able to extract them as long as I'm tied down fighting these things."

Given enough mana and time, Archer should be able to heal whatever injuries those things deal to him; but that's time you may not have, and mana that you will need for yourself if you want to reinforce your servant in a timely manner. This is going to be difficult; you've never before had to stagger your thoughts to account for time-delay; but you don't have a choice- You'll have to talk as you go if you want to reinforce Archer as soon as possible, and you're pretty sure that cell service doesn't carry over inside the frozen time. You'll have to figure it out as you go. And Kure Kirika will just have to suck it up and deal with it.

"McRemitz-san."
You take off running. "Don't panic. Act naturally." Time stops. Time resumes. "This is something all the mages" - the word, her word, for your kind sounds strange on your tongue - " of this city are able to do." Time stops. Time resumes.

"Akemi?" Time stops. Time resumes. "What are you doing in-" Time stops. Time resumes. "Never mind. What do you need now? I-" Time stops. Time resumes. "Haven't found anything in the five minutes-" Time stops. Time resumes. "Since we last spoke."Did you hear from your landlord?"

"Not yet."
Time stops. Time resumes. "Tell me where you are first." Time stops. Time resumes. "I need to know your exact location."

"I'm on the southbound train-"
Time stops. Time resumes. "-heading into Downtown. But I-"

"Get off at the next stop."

"What? Why?"

"It's Archer."
Time stops. You bound over a gap in-between two tall buildings. Time resumes. "He's found something at the 'Church'." Time stops. Time resumes. "Something bad. He-" Time stops. You make a sharp right-hand turn, and keep going. Time resumes. "found a witch. It's familiars-" Time stops. Time resumes. "-are far stronger than they should be." time stops. Time resumes. "He needs backup."

"And you want me to-"
Time stops. You can't see McRemitz-san's train anywhere. You'll have to try the next stop up. Time resumes. "-back him up? If these things are-" Time stops. Time resumes. "-as strong as you say they are, then-" Time stops. Time resumes. "what do expect me to do to them?"

Time stops. Heading northwest along the train tracks, you're sure to run into McRemitz-san's train sooner than later. Time resumes. "Archer is holding them off as best as he can-" Time stops. Time resumes. "-but he's occupied just fending off-" Time stops. Time resumes. "-familiars.He needs extra hands to help extract-" Time stops. Time resumes. "Sister Hope and her father."

"And you want me to-"

"I can support you."
Time stops. There's the next station. Time resumes. "We just need someone to help with their extraction."

"And you can't do-"
Time stops. You can see McRemitz-san, waiting at the train station, having just gotten off the train, just as you requested.

Time resumes. "Just take my hand," you say, tightly grabbing McRemitz-san by the hand as you appear out of time-stop. And then time stops. The world turns to grey, and you take off running in the direction of the warehouse park. McRemitz-san can only stare at you, stone-faced, as she keeps pace beside you. "No matter what happens, don't let go."

"I swear... Of all the incorrigible magicians out there, Akemi, you somehow manage to put yourself in my top ten without even trying."

Just this part of the trip alone has caused a considerable amount of Grief to build up inside your Soul Gem. You cleanse it, making sure to hold on to the Seed for later; you'll no doubt need it again once you've reached your destination. "I'm flattered that you think that about me, McRemitz-san, but unfortunately my heart belongs to another."

You immediately allow time to resume as McRemitz-san kicks in the door to the 'Church' warehouse, and are greeted to a field of broken blade-tips littering the floor of the 'Church'. Black, white, crimson, and silver; curved, straight-headed spearheads, and thin needles; practically the only place where the floor isn't covered in a mass of blades is the small circle around Sister Hope and her father, who stand there with blank, expressionless faces as though absolutely nothing is wrong.

"You sure took your sweet time, master," Archer thinks to you, as he Traces a pair of curved blades in his hand, sacrificing them to the bite of the shadow familiars as several needle-thin blades streak above their heads towards the walls of the mural where several others like them are already embedded. A copy of the crimson spear attempts to join them, but is snatched out of the air in the jaws of a familiar, falling to the ground in two pieces.

McRemitz-san barrels ahead into the fray, her gloves shining lime-green as she reinforces them with her runes. "It took me a few minutes to get here," you respond, calling up your own bow as you take aim with an Isa-enhanced arrow. "Hopefully the three of us will be enough."

"And if we're not?"

You fire as one of the familiars launches its attack on the charging McRemitz-san, and the freezing arrow lands a direct hit. A layer of ice forms around the familiar's neck, trapping it in place. "Then we'll cross that bridge when we get to it."

It takes you a moment to realize that what you saw happen was not what actually occurred in reality. A layer of ice did form around the shape of the familiar's neck, but the familiar appears to be completely unaffected. Stranger still, is the sheet of ice that is now floating in mid-air where you thought you had succeeded in freezing the familiar. Unimpeded by your attack, it clamps down on McRemitz-san's arm. Immediately, she spins around, launching her fist through the familiar's body, shattering it.

Except no, that isn't what happens either. What actually happens is that her fist passes through the familiar, warping the blackness around it as it reappears only slightly off-course from where it had been before her strike. It lunges for the fist that had struck it, but McRemitz-san brings around the arm already bitten onto by one familiar, intercepting the second familiar's attack. But somehow, despite having two familiars clamped down on her arm, she presses forward.

There are only four familiars, and at the moment their attentions are divided evenly among Archer and McRemitz-san. You fire three more Isa-enhanced arrows in McRemitz-san's direction, to try and take some of the pressure off of her as her advance is slowed by the snapping jaws of the enemy. Already, they've taken several large chunks out of her arm - fortunately just her prosthetic arm, you're relieved to see - and show no sign of slowing down, just as she does. Your arrows find their mark, two colliding with one familiar, and the third with the other, but you get the same result. For a moment, their bodies appear trapped by the ice, only for the ice to prove unable to impede them as they leave a frozen shell behind in mid-air.

This time, your attacks are successful in drawing their attentions away from McRemitz-san, and she takes the opportunity to dart forward as the two familiars snake towards you. Using time-stop, you avoid their attack, taking position on the other side of the 'Church' and firing again. Both familiars lunge, but one of them stops as you ready another set of arrows. It breaks off the attack and returns its focus to McRemitz-san, who from the corner of your eye you can see is carrying an unresponsive Father Despair. The familiar lunges at her with an open mouth, but she carefully turns, allowing her already-damaged prosthetic arm to shoulder the brunt of the attack.

With open mouth, the familiar passes clean through her prosthetic arm and it, along with the sleeve of her jacket and a splatter of artificial? blood, hits the ground. You stop time, reposition yourself, and resume time as you open fire. Archer too directs all of his attentions towards providing McRemitz-san with covering fire as she pushes forward, familiars nipping at her heels every step of the way.

McRemitz-san succeeds in extracting Father Despair, but as she does, eight more familiars spring from the walls as the four engaged in battle pull away to join their brethren, and together the company of twelve form a defensive coil around the body of Sister Hope. Somehow, you don't think that you'll be successful in extracting her.

I do recall warning you guys about this last week, actually.
... Why is Vanilla Ice here?
Because we're on very thin ice.
Black Hole Ghidorah, whose abilities I modeled the Sebastian's after, has a special property that allows it to harm anything while remaining invulnerable to everything, so long as certain conditions are met. Fortunately, we still have a full in-quest week before shit goes down to find out what those conditions are.

Well, those things are officially terrifying. Kinda reminds me of a nerfed Siberian actually, which is horrifying to say the least, and I'm assuming anti-Magic does nothing to them unless no copy of Gáe Dearg hit and they were specifically targeting them for some reason. Hopefully we'll get the opportunity to properly gauge what those conditions are before the week passes.

Also offering to heal Bazett's arm, since she did completely lose it from a mission Homura literally dragged her into. Dependent on whether or not Bazett likes having an artificial arm instead of a normal one though.

Also a question for @SVS, were the Sebastian's always operating under darkness or shadows? Just a thought towards maybe one of the conditions.

EDIT: Added onto the 'regroup' section

I'm glad you think so. This is the point at which witches stop being things we can just barrel over, and start being actual challenging threats. But what's a Siberian?

Anti-magic would disrupt them if it were strong enough, but they've been very thorough in not letting any of our Gáe Deargs hit and Black Keys aren't strong enough to disrupt them. I would explain more about how they work, but that's info I'm saving for when the real shit hits, unless we manage to figure it out in-thread. I'll try not to make it too obtuse what the conditions are, but I make no promises.

Her prosthetic one, to be sure. She's still got her real one left. But if we want to offer Avalon and regrow her other arm for her, that's fine and on the table.

In the show, the Sebastian's only show up inside the labyrinth, and since everything is black and white, it's difficult to say whether they appear under shadows or if they are shadows. Since mine are capable of manifesting outside the labyrinth I'm taking a slightly different approach than what is seen in the show, which if we can't figure out will be revealed in one thread-week.

Also, in regards to getting everyone together and attacking later tonight, I should have asked whether we're planning on doing that right away and are just going to throw everyone at the Church until something sticks, or if we're going to regroup at one of our residences and try to come up with an actual plan of attack.

The Siberian is a villain from Worm. Basically, it's an entity that is completely invulnerable, can elect to completely pass through and annihilate anything that comes into contact with its body completely and utterly regardless of what it is, can consciously chose what forces effect it (such as gravity, so it doesn't get flung off the planet), and is often considered both an unstoppable force and an unmovable object.

Well, now I know what inspired Urobutcher when he came up with Black Hole Ghidorah.

oh yeah, we definitely need a plan here. And these are only the familiars... which makes any kind of full-out attack really risky, because who knows how many of those demonic spiders could appear. Also the fact that it may cause the witch itself to appear. Maybe.

I don't suppose for once things could be simple and the witch will still let sister hope go to school and we can extract her there? Nah, too easy. Hmm, there must be something special about her if the witch is protecting her like a newborn baby, otherwise the witch could just pluck another person.

Clearly, the witch is just a clingy jealous girlfriend and refuses to let go of the first person they slept with brainwashed into being their vassal.

I don't suppose we could just stop time, pick up Sister Hope, and then leave the building before resuming time?
In theory, stopping time and grabbing Alina would absolutely work. In practice, the Sebastian's have formed a protective ring around her, and since we can't harm them, and since them just touching us brings with it the risk of dismemberment, it's not something we can do for as long as they have her under lock and key. We would first need to draw them out, get them to leave Alina alone, before we could nab her.

Day 24 Chapter 9

"Are you going to be okay?" you ask McRemitz-san, unable to take your eyes off of the strangely bloodless stump where her prosthetic arm had been. You know in the logical part of your brain that the injuries to her legs that she sustained in that last stretch are probably the more pressing of her wounds, but the image of the lack of a limb that had been there only minutes earlier is what embeds itself in your mind.

"I'll be fine," McRemitz-san replies, wincing as she crouches down to apply the Uruz rune to her legs. "I'll just give my specialist a call, get this replaced, and be right as rain in about a week or two." A week or two. That means there's a good chance she won't be present when 'Black Mountain' - the witch, you remind yourself - awakens. "I guess this means you don't have to check in with your landlord on my account."

"We could help," you say, gesturing to yourself and Archer. You don't know the first thing about artificial limbs, but you assume that Avalon would have the ability to regrow her real limb instead. "I can have Archer give you your arm back, if you ask for it."

"I'll be fine, really." McRemitz-san waves your offer aside. "Really. The specialist I go to is the best around when it comes to prosthetic limbs. Nothing against your servant, but I'd trust her to make me a new arm than I would trust your servant to Project one."

McRemitz-san reaches for her phone - with great difficulty, you notice, owing to her phone being in the opposite-side pocket from her remaining arm - and dials. The dial tone on the other end is loud enough that you can hear it, but the voice on the other end is not, and you cannot hear their response when she says "Aozaki, it's McRemitz. ... Yeah, I broke it again. ... No I didn't 'beat it to death' this time; a familiar bit it off. ... Uh-huh; so, listen, how's that thing I asked for coming along? ... Really? That soon? ... Good. I'll be by to pick it up as soon as it's ready ... Yeah, just send the bill to my office and I'll have it paid when I'm done here."

McRemitz-san hangs up on this 'Aozaki' person, and places her phone back into her pocket, this time on the same-side pocket as her remaining arm. "I meant your real arm. We can give you back your real, flesh and blood arm, if you would prefer that to a prosthetic. All we ask is that you tell no one."

You hear McRemitz-san whisper something to herself, something to the effect of "Yeah, a magician and her servant probably could do that." But she shakes her head, and tries to give you as confident a face as you imagine she is capable of. "I appreciate the offer; I really do. Having my real arm back is something that I've thought about nonstop every day since I got my first prosthetic fitted. But if this thing Aozaki's been working on for me is everything she's cracked it up to be, it'll be ten times better than my real arm ever was. So with all due respect, I think I'll pass on the offer, as tempting as it may be to be whole again."

"It's not even that I doubt that you could give me my arm back. It's just that my replacement is going to be better than flesh at what I need it to be."

The sun is still in the sky, receding but not yet extinguished. You have a conscious (?) but unresponsive man among your party, and another blatantly missing an arm that absolutely was there earlier in the day. "In that case, what should we do next?"

You turn to your servant, contemplating your choices. "We'll retreat and regroup back at my apartment. Get the other girls up to date with what we've discovered. Try to come up with a plan, if not to defeat the familiars than to at least free Sister Hope from the witch's hold on her." Not just because it's the right thing to do. "You saw how the familiars were guarding her as we left. Compared to that, it's almost as if they let us leave with Father Despair. If we can pull her out of there, then I'm hoping that will disrupt whatever the witch is planning."

But why would Sister Hope be that instrumental to the witch's plans?

You look to McRemitz-san, who looks all together far too collected for someone who had just lost a limb. "You are welcome to join us if you think you are up for it, McRemitz-san."

"I can stay long enough to share my own observations with your girls, but after that I should be heading back to my hotel room. I need to pack all my things and get ready to head out as soon as possible."

"Right." You nod, and then direct your attention to Archer. "Archer, earlier, you were trying to use your magic-cancelling spear to free Sister Hope and her father from the witch's kiss, correct? Get that taken care of now. As long as he's like this, we can't be sure that the witch isn't using his eyes and ears to spy on us."

"Right." McRemitz-san's eyes light up with childlike wonder as the crimson spear materializes in Archer's hands. "You like?" he asks, to which she very enthusiastically nods her approval. With precise footwork, Archer positions himself around the back of Father Despair, raising the spear with one hand while steadying it in position with his other. From Archer's stance he almost looks like a billiards players, except the ball is a man's neck and the object of the game is to sever the witch's connection to him without severing his head in the process.

You have absolute faith that Archer will be successful.

The moment barely lasts that long; in, and out, and the spear is gone from Archer's hands before you can register that he had already finished. Father Despair collapses on the ground, but Archer's quick reflexes catch him as he falls, and your servant gently lowers the man into a seated position.

[ ] Leave him there
[ ] Take him with you
[ ] Drop him off in a safe location

Now, to deal with the matter of assembling all of your allies under one roof. Tomoe-san's apartment is the closest to your current position, but she hosted last night and you don't want to impose on her twice in a row. Mikuni Oriko's mansion is far, more than an hour from just your apartment, on top of the almost-hour it would take you to return home without the use of time stop. That just leaves your own apartment.

You take out your phone, and send a group message to Tomoe-san, Kyouko, and Mikuni Oriko. <Homura: Something urgent has come up that requires our combined attention. The witch of the 'Black Mountain' has incredibly powerful familiars. We need to assemble and come up with a plan to defeat them. My apartment, in one hour?>

You wait; response times will be slower individually, but messaging everyone at once will save time compared to trying to telepathically communicate with your allies one at a time. Your phone vibrates.
<Mikuni Oriko: It will take Kirika and I a little over an hour to reach you from our residence, but I don't think meeting at your apartment will be a problem.>
<Tomoe-san: Sakura-san and I can be there. But, are you sure they were just the familiars, Akemi-san?>
<Kyouko: Therell be food, rite?>

<Homura: Mikuni Oriko, if it takes you longer to get here, then that's fine. Tomoe-san, I cannot say for sure that they were just the familiars, but I believe them to be. Kyouko, yes there can be food, if you ask nicely. Everyone, bring your servants with you if you can. Their input may also be helpful and appreciated, especially from Caster, Tomoe-san.>

<Mikuni Oriko: Right. I'll try to get us there on time.>
<Tomoe-san: If you think they were just the familiars, then I shudder to think of what the witch itself will be like. Yes, Akemi-san, Kyouko and I will be there.>
<Kyouko: Yeah, what she said. Yer just lucky that foods beign offered>

One hour, at your apartment.

-[X] Take him with you
-[X] What do you tell the others?
--[X] Everything in relation to Alina, her father, the familiars and their deadly ability to seemingly cut through anything, including Noble Phantasms
-[X] What sort of plan do you have to deal with the familiars?
--[X] Before going into battle, they'll have Mami buff the group with her Rune, Wunjo. You will first scout out the Church to see if you can't just extract Alina and get rid of her Witch's Kiss without a battle. If not, then inform the rest of the group with up-to-date tactical information. Inform the Servants that they should avoid having their weapons come in contact with the familiars - aside from Archer and maybe Caster - to prevent them from being broken. Have Rider storm the warehouse to try and draw the familiars outside and into open ground. Caster will attempt to find an appropriate type of Noble Phantasm or Magic Staff that can injure or otherwise debuff the familiars. Have Lancer debuff and try to drain the familiars of their Magic with her Primordial Runes while protecting the Masters. Archer will circle around the Church and attempt to destroy any and all imagery made by the Church from range, and then cycle through Noble Phantasms to support their allies and try and find a way to injure or debuff the familiars. The Puella Magi will support their Servants or attempt to debuff the familiars. If necessary, in order to safeguard their Servants, one will use a Command Seal if need be to extract them.
-[X] What sort of plan do you have to retrieve Sister Hope?
--[X] Retrieving her in time-stop when you get the chance. Ask Archer if you can have a copy of Gáe Dearg when they begin this operation in order to nick Alina in her Witch's Kiss.
-[X] Anything else?
--[X] Ask Caster and Oriko if they can divine anything about these familiars, such as how to get rid of them, weaknesses, or how to get rid of their invulnerability.

Bazett 'Overpowered' McRemitz is about to get a massive power-up. This is either great or horrible for Homura and co, depending on what Bazett does in the future. Rider's Andreias Amarantos should prevent any injury, even from conceptual shenanigans, since these familiars presumably aren't Divine. Also a good point to see Rider show off his Dromeus Komētēs. Hopefully Archer destroying the imagery the Church set-up will dispel the familiars, otherwise idk what they need to do to get rid of them or their invulnerability aside from a Ritual-grade Anti-Magic spell.

That probably isn't the greatest idea, behind the whole "ditch him" option. We could possibly still get some info out of him, and there's the distinct possibility that he would try and find Alina again anyways if we leave him, seeing as how he's her father. By taking him with them we can keep him from getting himself re-Kissed or killed, and we happen to have aligned ourselves with someone who can use Hypnosis for when things are over and done with.

[X] Plan Kaiju

I kind of doubt this will be done in the day, but it's not like I have any other ideas. I mean, the witch will probably show itself if we come close to extracting Alina.
