Luckily Archer's meeting up with Rin before then, amirite? Archer might be able to get Rin to make an account for him to use, or help him get an account under the Shirou or Archer's identity of this timeline.
This is the same Rin that didn't know how to use a DVD player, right? Are we sure she knows how to open a bank account?

Are you sure Rin is the right person help us with that?

She definitely knows how to finance and invest, it was Kirei that destroyed the Tohsaka family fortune and investments. Not to mention that banking has been around for centuries, so it's not exactly a new concept or technology that Rin would have trouble with, unless she's trying online banking. Rin is very shrewd when it comes to her finances; she had to be in order to keep performing her family Magecraft and afford to buy the gems necessary to make it function with what money and investments she had left.

You know, speaking of Rin, I think I made a mistake in deciding to bring her into this mess. I can't think of a single way to work in a "defenseless anus" joke, and that's terrible.

We do not have any identification on us. Like, at all. We'd have to wholesale forge every single piece of paper we needed, and the bank might get suspicious if we make a deposit of "a fuckton" at the same time that the local Yakuza have just lost "a fuckton" of money. Do either of you have any comments on this?
--[X] What you do end up getting out of the haul for Minako will be put into a bank account which you'll be setting up at a local bank under the I.D. of Emiya Shirou, your past self
Psst, @NMS, you might want to address this in your altered vote before the vote is called/SVS starts on the next chapter. You can just copy and paste my own edit to that section of the vote if you want, or you could propose something different to include in place of it. :smile2:

Day 34 Chapter 2
[X] Plan Enetious But Without The Panicking

"Are you..." The mother Kure's eyes dart from you, to food which you've generously brought her this lovely early morning, then back to you, and she asks "Are you going to eat anything?"

You shake your head. "No. Usually I'll have breakfast with Homura before she heads off to school, but she's still asleep now." You wave Kure Minako's concerns away, saying "Really, you're fine. I won't think it's rude if you start eating in front of me." You crack a smile, and in your usual manner you add "But I will think it's rude if you don't tell me where you have your day shift. How else am I supposed to bring you lunch if I don't know where you work?"

"If you get me a piece of paper and a pen, I can write the address for you."

You do as Kure Minako instructs you, grabbing from the cabinet drawer a piece of paper and a pen while she digs into the breakfast you've made for her. "This is really good," she says, washing her first bite of omelette down with a sip of the fruit smoothie. "Is there a limit to how many times I can thank you for bringing me breakfast?"

"Not at all," you say, placing the paper and pen beside the hungry woman. The mother Kure, her mouth full, gives you a noncomittal nod of her head, before writing out the address of her day shift office and passing it back to you. You'll have to ask Homura when she wakes up, but you're pretty sure this address isn't too far from where she lives. "Alright, lunch is settled."

You decide to wait until Kure Minako has finished eating before bringing up the next thing you want to talk to her about, but once she's eaten and looking the most satisfied you've seen her - at least since the last time you saw her sober, that is - you say "So, I'm going to reiterate the offer I made to you yesterday. If you'd be willing to drop your night shift, I'm prepared to offer you a sizeable amount of money to help you and your daughter stay afloat while you get your Cert and a college degree."

And, if you hadn't left last night's haul with Homura, you could have brought some with you now as a demonstration of just how prepared you are to help out with this cause. Granted, you wanted to have a conversation with your master daughter about proper financial management before committing any specific sums to the Kure cause, but that can "I can't accept your money." Wait.

Kure Minako hangs her head; you can see the tears forming at the corners of her eyes, whether she wants you to or not. "I... I'm a terrible person. I've outsourced the job of caring for my daughter to her girlfriend... I know I could ask Oriko to give me some money if I needed it, but she's already doing a better job than I ever did at caring for Kirika." You're doubtful of that claim. Whatever she thinks of herself as a parent, her daughter didn't kill anybody until she was in her girlfriend's 'care'. "And now, you're taking time out of your day to feed me and help me get back on my feet; and I know you're willing to give me money, but I... I'd feel really bad, about taking such a large amount from you when you're already doing more than you have to for my sake. I'm the one who fucked my life up with my stupid choices; so I'm the only one who should have to suffer for them. Not Oriko, and not you or your daughter either. That's why I can't accept your money."

You reach a finger over, wiping away the tears as you say to her "I assure you, I wouldn't be making this offer if I thought I needed the money more than you do." Or even at all. "But if you really feel compelled to beat yourself up over accepting some help, you can pay me back when you've gotten yourself into a better place. I'd prefer if you just took the money, but if you feel like there has to be some honour in accepting the help of another you can pay me back at zero per cent interest whenever you're able to stand on your own."

"I don't understand you at all, Archer," Kure Minako says, holding her hand to yours as your touch lingers at the tears on her cheek. "Why are you willing to go so far just to help some fuckup like me?"

"Because you're a good person who's fallen on hard times, and I'm someone in a position to help you." Kure Minako smiles, letting you pull your hand away from hers as you say "And because I'm selfish. If I have the power to help the people in front of me, I'm going to do it, every time."

Kure Minako gives you an odd look, and says in response "No offense, but are you sure your father didn't mess up raising you somewhere along the way? Because that's pretty much the exact opposite of being 'selfish'."

A little after seven, you think to yourself as the alarm set on your phone goes off. Thankfully, McRemitz-san and her Lancer quieted down around the time that Assassin let you pass from the conscious realm, and your sleep, which you rub from your eyes as you rise and greet the morning, was thankfully uneventful. There is, however, one small matter you have to discuss with your servant father as you greet him in the kitchen this morning.

Seated at the kitchen table is Archer, sipping from a cup of coffee while Amy laps up some fresh water from her bowl. A place with "It's kind of a twist on omurice; instead chicken, I went with sausage. Try it; it's good," has been set out for you along with fruit-filled oatmeal and a fruit smoothie. Oh yes, and there's also two briefcases stuffed to bursting with cash.

"Just... How much did you take from the Yakuza last night?" you ask, taking your seat across the table from Archer as you continue to stare at the briefcases stuffed with money.

Archer shrugs, responding by saying "I should probably count it again later today, but I think we're looking somewhere in the realm of... Say, probably ten-million Yen and another hundred-thousand in US Dollars." Archer nods his head as your eyes widen so greatly you fear they may fall from their sockets. "Yeah, that sounds about right."

"Archer, this is... This is a lot more than I expected when you said you were going to hit the local Yakuza for some material."

"Well, I'm nothing if not thorough in what I do. And speaking of 'material'..." You really don't like the look Archer is giving you, that crafty smile as he reaches into his pocket. "I overheard Kure saying she liked Lupin III on the train last night," Archer says, sliding a well-worn Walther pistol across the table. "Thought I'd pick up a present I found while I was at it."

"You want to give Kure Kirika a gun?"

"Hey, if she's old enough to risk her life fighting horrific Cthulhu monsters, I figure she's old enough to enjoy shooting responsibly." That typical Archer smile vanishes from his face as he says, his voice a much more serious tone now, "Actually, no. That's for you, since I know you're the one with a massive arsenal in that shield of yours. You can decide for yourself whether Kure's responsible enough to where you feel safe giving it to her, though."

You let the briefcases full of money and the pistol stay where they are as you eat the rest of your breakfast in silence. Archer was right; replacing the chicken in the omurice with sausage is really good.

I will be addressing the matter of Asako Koito's Soul Gem either in the next post, or the post after that, depending on how long and what sort of conversation we have with our friends on the walk to school.

[x] How much money do you want to keep for yourself?
-[x] 50%

[x] Do you trust Kure Kirika with a gun?
-[x] Yes; you'll give it to her the next time you think of it
--[jk] But you don't trust her with bullets.

[X] Plan Loot Makes Everyone Feel Better
-[X] How much money do you want to keep for yourself?
--[X] ¥1,000,000
---[X] The rest can go towards Archer's cause of helping Minako, or kept in an account for his personal use; ask him how he's going to go about setting up a bank account considering he's a Heroic Spirit without proper documentation
----[X] (Archer) Answer by informing Homura that you'll be meeting with Tohsaka Rin today, and she could probably help you out in setting things up so that you can store and convert funds legally and without drawing attention
-[X] Do you trust Kure Kirika with a gun?
--[X] No; you're going to teach her proper gun safety and firing before handing it off to her, as the resident gun-proficient member of the Holy Quintet
-[X] Walk to school with your friends and talk to
--[X] Madoka while hand-holding
---[X] about what she's thinking about their next date; does she want to schedule and hash out the details of it since you did the last one, are there any events that are coming up that she wants to go to, does she want to have another picnic in the future, etc.
--[X] Sayaka
---[X] informing her about how Archer's getting her Formalcraft and Mystic Code creation material so that she could become like Batman as they speak
---[X] about what kind of comics she's been reading recently
--[X] Hitomi
---[X] about her progress in Magecraft, and how she's finding it from her perspective
---[X] asking her if she's given any thought on what she wants to do when she grows up
-[X] (Archer) While Homura's going to school, try and meet up with Rin

Having Homura keeping roughly $10k, purely from the yen pile to prevent her from having to have to convert dollars to yen as that'd take time and documentation, and it would also draw attention. I doubt Homura will need anything nearing that until Walpurgisnacht hits considering what she's been purchasing this entire quest, much less for most of her school life.

EDIT: Forgot to add in Archer meeting up with Rin.
EDIT2: Added onto the vote name.

Yeah, I may have taken a small (scratch that, it's been like a week, huh? Damn.) break from reading this to read through other backlogged reads and games, and I may have had several days where I slept for inordinate amounts of time, and blah blah blah, sorry.

As much I want to just not care and vote enetious without knowing things because Enetious is always right, give me a couple hours to catch up, then I'll vote for Enetious anyway.

Unfortunately, the one overseeing this War is Caren... Probably. She's the only "official" representing the Church in Mitakihara, but, uh... Well, Caren is Caren. We might have better luck getting extra Seals from her cousin... Which, now that I say that, that's a pretty big conflict of interest, isn't it? To have family of the overseer participating in the War. Uh, someone should maybe do something about that, I guess?

You were gone? Huh. I was so busy myself over the past week I hadn't even noticed. Well, good to have you back.

I may of got distracted watching a stream, but now for my very surprising vote!

[X] 2, 4, 6, 8, who do we look to for Fate?

Though I feel asking madoka about a date right now is a bit too fast since we just had the vacation.

Though I feel asking madoka about a date right now is a bit too fast since we just had the vacation.
Eh, it's something, and it helps bring up the question of whether or not Madoka's fine with Homura being the only driving force to their relationship or if she wants to take initiative. Madoka's always gotten more confident and sure of herself as time goes on in a timeline (though usually it's to the end of her contracting with Kyuubey to help/protect her friends and loved ones), and the only reason Madoka's been so timid in their relationship so far is due to karmic shenanigans, since Urobuchi thought it ironic that the more Homura hardened herself and tried to take the initiative to protect Madoka timeline to timeline as opposed to how it used to be in the prime timeline where Madoka brought Homura out of her shell and protected her, the more Madoka would revert to a state more similar to how Homura once was in the prime timeline.

Day 34 Chapter 3
[X] Plan Loot Makes Everyone Feel Better

You've had your time to think things over while you eat, shower, and get dressed, and by the time you've gathered your things and are ready to head out the door, you have your answer for Archer. "I don't think I'll have much need for any more than one million Yen," you may, tapping on the lid of the briefcase containing the Yen. "The rest, as well as the US Dollars, you're free to do with as you see fit." After all, it's not as though you've ever had much in the way of expenses in previous loops, and you don't see why that would change now. One million Yen should be more than enough to get you through until Walpurgisnacht, even if you suddenly find yourself in the midst of a massive shopping spree courtesy of your girlfriend.

Archer nods, doling out the requested amount of Yen; you'll put it aside in your shield later. "Mikuni informed me last night that Tohsaka Rin would be coming by the city later today." Well, that's certainly an unexpected announcement. You wish Archer, or Mikuni Oriko for that matter, had thought to tell you before now. "I'll probably see about getting her to help me set up a bank account so I can store this without arousing any local suspicions." Archer's eyes dart from the briefcases of money to the Walther pistol, and he asks "What about the gun?"

"I suppose I can trust Kure Kirika with it," you say; just because you're giving her the pistol, doesn't mean you'll also be giving her the ammunition for it. "That being said, I do plan on giving her some firearms safety training before she's allowed to take it." Adding to that, since it is technically her place of residence, you suppose it'll be on MIkuni Oriko as to whether or not Kure Kirika is allowed to keep it.

"Alright then. Do you want me to store this stuff in your room until you get back, or did you want to take them with you?"

"I'll be taking them with me." In a flash, you've changed out of your school clothes and into your puella magi costume. Quickly, you grab the cash and the pistol, storing them safely inside your shield before returning to your school attire. "Now, if you'll excuse me, I should get going."

"Alright, have fun at school," Archer says, waving you goodbye just like a real father might. "Stay safe now, you hear?"

You wave goodbye to Archer, and head out on your way to school. You're running perfectly on schedule, and in no time at all you are joined in your travels by the love of your life. "Good morning, Madoka," you say, embracing your girlfriend at the intersection where you both meet. "Did you have fun yesterday?"

Madoka nods, giving you an enthusiastic-sounding "Mhm," as she says "I had a lot of fun. Thank you for letting me come with you, Homura-chan!"

"You know, if you really enjoyed yourself, I'm not the one you should be thanking." No matter how many times it confronts you, you can't shake the reality that this timeline has gone in an impossibly strange direction. To think that not three weeks ago, Mikuni Oriko and Kure Kirika were your enemies; people who wanted Madoka dead at all costs; and yet now you're telling Madoka to thank them for inviting her to join them at their beach house for the weekend. You shake your head, and for your own benefit change the subject, asking Madoka "I know it might be too soon to ask since we just went to the beach, but I was wondering if there was anything you wanted to do for our next date?" in the hope that by directing her attention elsewhere, you can direct your own attention away from having to think about how strange this timeline is.

"Well, I know it's not a date, so much, but I'd really like it if all of us could get together and have another day like yesterday." Madoka smiles, laughing to herself as she adds "Just, maybe without Sayaka-chan and Kyouko-chan fighting as much." You don't think Madoka will have to worry about those two fighting... Oh, who are you kidding; they're still going to fight. "I wish Oriko-chan and Kirika-chan could have been nicer from the start; having the eight of us together was a lot of fun."

You nod, and though you say to Madoka "Yes, I'd like it if we could all have fun together again," inwardly you doubt even Madoka's ability to make that happen. You aren't sure how smoothed over Sayaka's issues with the pair are - you'll have to ask her about that at some point - and Mikuni Oriko didn't seem all that interested in having another large get-together like yesterday any time soon; though you wonder how much of that is really how she feels, versus how much is her trying not to impose herself on the others. "But, that's all eight of us; I'm asking if there's anything you want to do where it's just the two of us."

Madoka scrunches her face up as she tries to think; you don't want to make her feel pressured to come up with something now, but you would like to test the waters; to see how willing she is to be an active contributor to your relationship rather than someone who passively lets you lead the way. "Well, I guess I'd like to go to the movies again, but outside of Pretty Cure I don't know what's playing. Um... We've gone to the mall plenty of times... The culture festival's been over for two weeks..."

"It's okay," you say, giving Madoka's hand a squeeze. "You don't have to think of anything right now if it's too difficult."

"Hey!" Sayaka calls out to the two of you as she and Hitomi come into view. "How's it going you two?"

"Everything is fine," you say, as Sayaka rushes up to do as she usually does and insert herself in-between you and Madoka. "And yourself?"

"Ah, you know, it's a living. Kind of a drag we have to go back to school; I wish we could have stayed at the beach forever!"

Hitomi nods, chiming in with "Yes; it was an enjoyable distraction from... Recent events."

"Well, at least I have some good news for the two of you," you say to Sayaka and Hitomi. "Archer informs me that-" his former master is coming to town "-the supplies he needs to start teaching the two of you should be arriving later today."

Hitomi smiles, saying "Ah, that's wonderful. I've been looking forward to getting started on Formalcraft." Her eyes roam over to Sayaka, who to your surprise isn't looking quite as enthused at the prospect as you had been expecting. "And I imagine you're rather keen on getting started with Mystic Codes as well; yes? I recall you being rather enthusiastic at the prospect of being, ahem, 'magic Batman'."

"I am, don't get me wrong. It's just..." Sayaka's hand reaches for the back of her head, and she scratches at it as her voice picks up a hint of awkwardness. "I don't think I'd be able to join you guys tonight. I... I've kind of got a date."

"That's incredible Sayaka-chan!" Madoka chirps; now it's her turn to embarrass her best friend about her relationship for a change.

Hitomi nods her head, chiming in to Madoka's sentiment with "Yes; I'm relieved to see that you've moved on from Kamijou-kun. But, if you don't mind us asking, who are you going out with? What's his name? Is it someone from our class?"

"No, it's..." You can't help but smirk; this is payback for all the times Sayaka has teased you about your own relationship. Now, it's her turn to suffer at her own hands. "... It's Kyouko. We kinda... I don't know; I guess we're going out now, I think?" Sayaka shoots you a dirty stare, as if to say "Stop looking at me like that! I'm not the one who's supposed to be getting teased!" "She kind of just... Told me to pick her up for dinner; didn't even ask if I wanted to go out or anything; just told me to pick her up."

"Are you okay with that?" Hitomi asks. You know she doesn't mean to, but you can't help but feel that the look she's giving you is as if to blame you for this. "Being told by Sakura-san that you're going out now, I mean; are you okay with that?"

"I guess so?" Sayaka doesn't sound as sure about that as you had hoped she might; perhaps there's still trouble ahead for them in the future. "I mean, she's attractive and all, yeah, and I guess maybe there's a part of me that likes the idea of being with her; but I don't know if she's someone I can see myself with long-term, you know? We're just too... Different, I guess."

Madoka hugs you, proclaiming "I thought Homura-chan was really different from me at first too! But the more I got to know her, the more I realized I was okay with that. You don't have to be the same as the person you like, as long as you both like each other."

You nod, finding no reason to dispute Madoka's claim. You're far too different from Madoka. You aren't a good person at all, like she is. She wouldn't have let you down as many times as you've let her down. "So, I've already asked Madoka this question, but I'm a little curious to hear each of your responses as well." Your eyes pass over Sayaka and Hitomi, and you ask them "Do either of you know what you'd like to be when you grow up?"

Sayaka is the first to respond, saying "Oh, that's easy. I want to be a singer when I grow up. I mean, I already sound exactly like Kitamura Eri, so if she can make it there's no reason I can't too!"

Hitomi puts a hand to her mouth to stiffle her giggle, but once you've said "Just because you sound like Kitamura Eri, doesn't mean you can sing like her," she is unable to hold back her laughter. You've heard Sayaka's singing before, when you all went to karaoke a few weeks ago, and while she isn't a bad singer - certainly, with a bit of professional training you're sure she could make it if she wanted to - you wouldn't feel proper if you didn't give her some of the signature snark you've picked up from Archer. You wait a few moments for Hitomi to compose herself, before asking "And you, Hitomi? Do you know what you want to be when you grow up?"

Hitomi shakes her head, saying "Well, when I was younger I thought I'd like to play piano professionally; but now that I'm studying magecrafft, I wonder if being a professional musician would cut too much into my ability to continue my education. Perhaps I should look elsewhere to find a career path where I can find the time to study magecraft at my own pace, while still making enough to live on. What about you?"

You've given the question no more thought than you had when Kure Kirika asked it of you last night. "I don't really know. Kaname Junko offered me a position at her realty firm once I've graduated high school, but I don't know if realty is something I would be suited for."

"Mama's a really good judge of other people, Homura-chan. I don't think she'd be offering you the position if she didn't think you could do it."

You smile for Madoka, but underneath you know it probably won't matter what you think. Still, you've got to keep a positive face up. "I'll think about it."

[ ] Wat do?

Archer's meeting with Rin and our addressing of Koito's Soul Gem will come next post. I just couldn't think of a good segue into either of them from where I ended things off with this post.

[X] 2, 4, 6, 8, who do we look to for Fate?
Even though I know what you're referring to, in the future can you try not to be cute about your votes? On the chance that we get a large number of votes, or multiple conflicting votes, yours is going to show up as something it isn't meant to be if you try to be different about it.
Eh, it's something, and it helps bring up the question of whether or not Madoka's fine with Homura being the only driving force to their relationship or if she wants to take initiative. Madoka's always gotten more confident and sure of herself as time goes on in a timeline
Yes, and now she has something that she for sure wants us to do. We just have to make sure we can wrangle her and six other girls into one residence and find a way for all eight of them to have a good time.

...

Sorry, but I'm drawing a blank.
[X] Switch perspectives to Archer

Don't worry, I came up with a very elaborate and in-depth plan just for this occasion! :V

In all seriousness, I'm pretty sure it'd probably be fine to switch over into Archer's adventure (and subsequent delivery of Minako's lunch) for the day. We could probably swap back to Homura during class/Lunch or something when whatever SVS has in mind for Koito's Soul Gem situation could come up.
