Code Vein - Ashes to ashes, blood to blood

I've played it a bit, but I'm still in those beginning caves with the stranger. I need to finish my project so I can play more lol

meh i stayed in those caves repeatedly running them for about 4 hours grinding left around level 20 with some nice gear and upgrade mats

So one very edgy dub hater on YouTube and Reddit is super upset about how one of the voices in English doesn't sound great. And to be fair, they aren't wrong, that particular voice in Japanese does pained grunts when hit, while the English option has the VA go "Ow! Quit it!" or "Cut that out!".

Of course, it won't really matter what language I choose to play, because I'll have the subtitles on and the sound off.

always have trouble with that. always miss the conversations that happen during combat in games like that. too focused on surviving to bother glancing over to see what they said.

So this might be a God Eater spinoff, apparently a Dyaus Pita shows up.

This is the result of anime game evolution, the dreams of weeaboos from across time and space, creating an endless chain towards the future. Behold, the best anime character creator today.

The character creator is decent, though a lot of it seems focused on accessories.

I feel one reason why the character creator gets rave reviews from people online is because 'anime-esque' art style aesthetic games with a character creator are rare and uncommon.

Games like Black Desert Online or Saints Row for example IMO has a more in depth character creator, and does lean slightly into anime-esque/cartoon-y/animated art style, but is vague enough to be seen as other character designs as well.

With the focus many fans have given it however, I'm hoping that the devs add some additional sliders beyond the current options to tweak the options given, or additional default shapes and others.

I also wish the clothes weren't built into the character creators.

I feel the focus on the character creator also makes a lot of web reviewers look over the skill system the game has. The skill system IMO is a pretty big draw and different in a good way compared to many similar types of games to give good variety to gameplay.

This game lets you play as a goth vampire catgirl, let's see Vampire the Masquerade try to top that. :V

Seriously though, I find it to be quite enjoyable if a bit clunky in places.

Huh. Wow, the world really is fucked. Hell, it's double fucked.

Apparently, this game really does take place in the same world as God Eater, judging by how that cameo of an Aragami is part of the main story, and not just some DLC buggery.

Like, the God Eaters had to inject themselves with the Oracle Cells that caused this whole mess just to survive and fight them off, and are constantly hoping that the Bias Factor doesn't fail and their own weapon doesn't devour them while fighting what is essentially a Grey Goo Ecology.

While the Revenants had to inject themselves with the parasites that seem to have caused this whole mess just to survive, and are constantly hoping that they get enough blood and will to not become horrible immortal monsters, while fighting against a combined zombie apocalypse, vampire apocalypse, mutant apocalypse and asshole apocalypse.

Holy shit is the world of God Eater/Code Vein fucked.

I, love this game. Although it does feel a little bit floaty, it's scratching that Soulsborne itch in a way that games like Surge haven't.

clarification on timeline of world events.

nah if im remembering right. the monsters appeared first which caused the Revenants to be made as an attempt to create soldiers to fight them. Durring that time they attempted to create a more powerful Revenant which resulted in Queen and that catastrophe. still not sure what caused the god eater monsters to appear originally though.

I've been having fun time as well, though I had to turn off my companion and go solo because they were just too good. Sometimes Yakumo would wipe out most of an enemy group while I was dealing with just one.

I've also made the snobbiest character.

I love the editor.

My experience as well has been that the companion characters make the levels a bit too easy for my tastes. Though the butterfly boss was enough of a pain that I don't know if I would have wanted to try it solo.

Final Journey is such a busted Gift, lol. The buffs you get from it are unreal and the drawback is pretty laughable—sure, it kills you after three minutes, but the only boss fight that's come close to that was against Ornstein and Smough and that was before I remembered that the Gift Extension you can pick up from Astrea adds another minute and a half to that timer.

It's even viable for running through a level in some situations—having Impair inflicted on you removes it without killing you, so if you can find some of those monkey-like Lost and let them hit you enough to build up a stack you can use it to basically reset the timer and get another four minutes or so out of it. Just pop it and BtG and you can quickstep with literally anything and treat most enemies like they're made of tissue paper.

tl;dr 10/10 gift would recommend to anyone who feels the urge to bust out an anime super mode on a boss and rek their face, I love it
