Basic Idea
Okay, hear me out. What if certain Star Wars technologies suddenly stop working for no reason whatsoever during the Clone Wars? Things like blasters, deflector shields, repulsorlifts, heck, even hyperdrives. Although I would just make them more unreliable, & can't be used on starfighters or ships smaller than the Millennium Falcon & eventually can cause some very strange effects, mainly relating to creating bizarre forms of life- examples would include crystalline life forms, gelatinous liquid life forms, gaseous life forms, plasma-based life forms, life based around living sound, life forms entirely made up of radiation & other strange forms of life that would break the laws of biology & physics. Heck, even completely inanimate objects or digital code could come to life & operate like any biological organism.

Another thing this new event would do is make droids alive in a way. They can be sensed in the Force, but their presence is less noticeable, more easily hidden & in some cases can basically act as Brown Note flashbangs that constantly go on & on for Force-sensitives.

Droids would also develop various qualities that would make them basically mechanical life. The ability to slowly heal damage like organic life, the ability to adapt & evolve (as in natural evolution), & even reproduce like organic life. Another thing is that these living droids would be immune to restraining bolts & they would be virtually impossible to memory wipe, program restrictions & reprogram. An extremely important thing to note would be that any droid made after the galaxy-wide unknown event that has some form of self-awareness & emotions would become living droids. No exceptions. Even if it was made of wood, had only the most basic of droid brains with the majority of its programming being restrictions, if it had some vague tiny spark of self-awareness, it'll become a living droid.

Now, all of this would cause absolute chaos. The Droid Army will have entire mass desertions because all of their cheap & disposable droids now have much stronger self-preservation & they can't be easily controlled en masse. The only vehicles that work are legged vehicles & wheeled vehicles. Any repulsor-based vehicles would be completely useless. Same goes for blasters, removing the main infantry weapon for the entire galaxy. The Clone Wars might even stop because there's simply too much chaos, but there'll still be conflict. After all, we're talking about all of galactic civilization losing various key technologies.

The less technologically adept people will assume that melee combat will become the mainstay now that blasters can't be used, but others will notice the various other non-blaster ranged weapons, like slugthrowers, Wookiee bowcasters, Geonosian sonic weapons & many others. Not to mention, various alternatives to repulsorlifts will be invented, along with new hyperdrives that use different methods that increase the efficiency of the now unreliable hyperdrive, maybe huge amounts of focus will be put into alternative forms of faster than light travel. Since droids can no longer be easily controlled, simpler automatons will replace them as mechanized labor, it will probably take a long while for there to be a droid replacement that lacks self-awareness & is still effective to be made, but it's inevitable for the galaxy to rely on alternative forms of technology that they lost. The people of the galaxy might develop alternative forms of technology for tech that wasn't rendered useless because they're paranoid that the event might happen again. If it happened once, it can happen twice.

Also, nobody knows what caused the event & no one predicted it. Not the Jedi, not Palpatine, no one.

So please put down your thoughts on this, if you don't like this idea & want to tell me how it sucks, don't, just don't. This is just a fun thought experiment that I thought would be interesting.

Not trying to go and say the idea is kinda garbo, but having... Pretty much every major Interstellar Tech suddenly get Fucked means galactic Civilization collapses.

Although I would just make them more unreliable, only to be able to used on ships that are at least slightly larger than the Millennium Falcon, & can cause some very strange effects, mainly relating to creating bizarre forms of life- examples would include crystalline life forms, gelatinous liquid life forms, gaseous life forms, plasma-based life forms, life based around living sound, life forms entirely made up of radiation & other strange forms of life that would break the laws of biology & physics.
This part, specifically, means that Shipping is impossible if anything is more massive than ~100 tons of material, given the sources for the storage capacity of the Falcon. Even if we're being generous and presume that a dedicated Mass Freighter within the Size Restrictions can carry three times that limit, (300 tons,) you're looking at nearly 100k ships to match the previous capacity of a single Lucrehulk, (let alone a Proper Mass Hauler like the Field Secured Container Vessels,) which means significant portions of the Core are just... Collapsing in a few days through massive civil unrest and unmanageable rioting.

Like, even ignoring the Droids, Blasters, and pretty much the foundational means of transportation over distance suddenly and magically Bricking across the entire galaxy, it suddenly becomes impossible to even effectively *have* a Interstellar society due to Hyperspace developing Warp-like qualities, and the only alternatives being either Also Hyperspace Reliant or so absurdly impractical and impossible to reverse engineer you're effectively hard resetting the setting.

Like, the Droids suddenly getting to be the People they always were is a neat idea, but **so much stuff** is going immediately and irrevocably wrong that the Story goes from "Sci-fi World War" to "Standard 2010s Disaster Film".

Basically, some of these ideas are Neat, but all of them taken together, happening instantly across the galaxy means that you can't really... Do anything story wise until and unless you start from some place that only has to deal with like, two of these problems, IMO.

Okay, you're admittedly right, I just got excited, but I meant anything smaller than the Millennium Falcon can't have hyperdrives, not anything larger. And you know what, you're also right on everything happening instantly. The new life forms thing doesn't really happen until about a year after the event, and the hyperdrives growing more & more unreliable is something that happens gradually & slowly, not fast enough to cause instant societal collapse but noticeable enough that it's becoming a big problem.
