You pass by a lot of terrified people, on your way home, and wonder what will happen when the authorities get to the park, to find no giant insect in sight. At least it's not something you can get into any trouble for- you were pretty sure that this wasn't a good plan from the start, but there's no stopping Izzy once he gets an idea.
At least, that's the excuse that you're planning on using to your parents. You could get in trouble for fighting Devimon, for planning to run off and face the Dark Masters eventually, for inviting a large number of friends over without permission... but hopefully not for this.
You're probably going to get in trouble no matter what you do, but you can at least ensure it's just for things that are actually your fault.
Your mother's already there when you get home. "Sora? What are you doing back from camp?"
"It's a long story, Mom..." You sigh. "If you want what everyone else is hearing, camp closed early due to snow."
"You probably don't want to hear the long answer," Biyomon adds. "But... you'll probably have to hear it anyway, huh?"
"...Does this have anything to do with why there are people outside screaming about a giant bug?"
You nod, not surprised that the news has made it this far. "That's Izzy's partner. I'm... not really surprised that he's a DigiDestined now, but he could do with learning about subtlety."
"In the past year or so, you've been using Birdramon to save on train fare." Okay, yes, but large birds are much less scary than insects of the same size. And you've always made sure to stay above the level of the nearby buildings, just to be sure.
"I'm still a bit more careful than to send a large Digimon flying straight to the park without much supervision... I mean, he could have been expecting Joe to oversee it, but still..." It's not really hard to tell that Joe doesn't really like flying.
"...Joe? Wasn't he home sick?"
"That's why we sent him back on MegaKabuterimon," You agree. "Along with all the other Digimon we brought back with us that weren't one of our partners..." From the look on her face, you think you lost her. "Okay, let's back up a bit..."
...Okay, that could have gone worse. Once you've saved the world, you'll be grounded forever, but at least you're allowed to go and save the world. Of course, you think the main reason you have permission is because everyone knows that Tai will go back with or without it, and someone needs to make sure he doesn't get himself killed, but that's not the point here.
...It might also help that you never said anything about the fact that Piedmon can apparently turn people into keychains. And that the other Dark Masters are probably at a similar level of power. So long as your parents don't have any real point of comparison...
...Okay, so Mom might still change her mind before you're ready to go back to the Digital World, and you're not entirely sure what you'd do, then. Other than sneak out and go to the Digital World, anyway. It can't be hard, with all the phantom Digimon still showing up, you don't think the walls between the worlds have ever been this fragile.
Maybe that's the real reason you technically have permission. You.... didn't exactly make it much of a secret that you planned to go back no matter what... well, once Haruka figures out the whole keychain thing. And you have a proper battle plan.
And you don't have to worry too much about the fact that MegaKabuterimon made the news and people are still worrying about that. Though they still don't seem to notice the phantom Digimon...
You liked being a DigiDestined a lot better when there weren't actual responsibilities that came with it.
Such as the important one that you should probably be focusing on, at the moment...
[ ] ...Making sure that your friends' Digimon are integrating okay.
[ ] ...Figuring out a way to get stronger, preferably quickly.
[ ] ...The keychain thing.
[ ] ...If you're going back into the Digital World eventually, you're not doing it without supplies.
[ ] ...Investigating the phantom Digimon.
