You decide to go talk to Kari, because if she's found her Digimon, it might be best to get introductions out of the way before everything goes pear-shaped. Which you know it will. That's basically how this whole thing works.

She's talking to a white cat Digimon with a ring on her tail right now. From prior experience, you can tell that this is probably Gatomon. "Hey, Kari," You greet the girl, wandering over with Biyomon flapping happily besides you. "I take it you found a friend?"

She nods, happier than you've seen her since you've all gotten to the Digital World. "Yep! This is Gatomon! Now I have a Digimon, too!"

"Gatomon, huh?" Biyomon flutters down to your team's newest recruit. "It's good to meet you! I hope you'll be able to keep up with us!"

"...I am a Champion, you know...." The cat grumbles. "I'll be fine."

"Of course she will," Kari agrees, fiddling with her Tag. You're not sure why, but the Crest of Light seems to be a slightly more vibrant pink than usual. As if it's reacting to something...

"I'm not too worried about that," You admit. Kari's managed to get this far without a partner to really call her own, so now that she has one... you don't think that you need to do so much to look after her anymore.

Honestly, it shouldn't have been your job to worry about her in the first place, but Tai's always been more worried about the next adventure than anything else. That's just who he is.

"So, anyway..." You decide to change the subject, because you're still wondering about this. "Do either of you know what this is all about? The last Digimon I talked to couldn't tell me all that much."

"Lord Myotismon doesn't put his full trust in that many Digimon," Gatomon says. "A lot of us are told just what we need to know. He confided a few things in me, but... he didn't even tell me that it was a Digivice."

"Why not?" That seems like something fairly important to know.

"I don't know. I haven't had the chance to ask him about it yet." Right. "But if you asked me... I think this all has something to do with Himekawa." Maki Himekawa?

"The DigiDestined?" Kari asks. "What about her?"

"She became Myotismon's friend back when they lived on File Island," Biyomon volunteers. Gatomon nods.

"That's what I've heard. It's not a thing that made it into many of the history books, but... she disappeared right when this castle started trapping Digimon. And Lord Myotismon is... not happy, with his life the way it is." Trapped in a giant stone castle with several doors that never open... you don't imagine anyone could be happy in this situation.

Your partner seems to have the same idea. "Yeah, even if the aesthetic fits... not being able to leave would take all the fun out of it, huh?"

"It's more than that," Kari states, quietly, her eyes on the ground. "This place is... it's a trap. For humans and Digimon. It draws them in, and then..."

"And then we can never leave," Her partner finishes. "But... Lord Myotismon has always been wary of the doors. And anything else that connects to the outside world. Even these, which don't seem to go anywhere..." But they do lead somewhere, don't they? They lead to your world... and maybe several others.

"They don't go to anywhere in the Digital World," You correct Gatomon. "They... I think we could use them to go back to the Analog World, if we knew how." This has to be the door the others were talking about. It's the only one that seems large and important enough.

"We can," Kari agrees, and you almost ask how she can be so sure, before remembering that she was reading the message with the rest of you. She's probably just remembering it, as well. "If we leave through there, we can go home. But... we wouldn't be able to save this world."

"Like we can from here?" Gatomon points out. "Lord Myotismon is the most powerful Digimon in this castle, and even he pales in comparison to what we will have to face." Again, how can they be so sure about that?

You don't get the chance to ask. "I take it that everyone is here?" A familiar voice rings out over the crowd.

Myotismon has arrived.

Party has been split for too long.

And now, for it all to begin...

Time to prepare for... something. With less information to go off of than a number of the Digimon here. But at least they can keep an eye on things...

And It All Comes Together
"We should head towards the others," You whisper to Kari. "Just in case." You can't shake the feeling that something's going to go wrong here.

Really, it's probably a safe bet, if only because something always goes wrong when you do things. It's a major part of the whole DigiDestined experience. At least, that's what you think Rikuto might say.

Given that he has plenty of those kinds of experiences despite being the luckiest person you've ever met, you think he just might be onto something there.

Kari nods, and the two of you, followed by your Digimon, make your way through the crowd. Myotismon's saying things, but you're only half listening.

"For many centuries, this castle has been a place with no escape, barring the use of particular conceptual abilities... or being one of four very specific Digimon." You don't like the sound of that. Tai's near Matt and TK, and you think Izzy and Mimi might be making their way over as well. Maybe. Well, you have your destination, at least. "There is a reason for that, though it is one I am loath to share."

"Do any of you know what's going on?" Matt asks once you get to him.

"I was hoping you would know," You admit. "But... I think he's trying to send us back to our own world."

"It's the only way out of this castle, if what you're saying about the doors is true," Gatomon agrees.

"Now, some of you may have heard rumors that, once upon a time, I was well acquainted with one Maki Himekawa. Those rumors... are completely true." Some of the Digimon close to you appear to be surprised by that. Why would that be something to be kept secret? "Seven hundred and thirty Digital years ago, the two of us, alongside her Agumon and Tapirmon, were researching methods of travel between worlds."

"Tapirmon?" Joe suddenly seems to be a lot more interested in the speech. "As in, her partner? The one that died?"

"Died?" Tai asks, sounding somewhat apprehensive. Izzy nods.
"In time, the two of us eventually came upon this castle. She believed she recognized it, from her own adventure, as a way home.
"Did you never wonder why there were five DigiDestined... but only four Sovereigns? Maki Himekawa's Tapirmon fell in the final battle. Unlike most Digimon do these days, he didn't reincarnate."

"Maybe they just didn't wait long enough?" Matt suggests.
"It should have worked."
"I don't know..." You say. "It seemed a bit more... certain, than that. And... Digimon do come back these days a lot more than they did then. At least, if Izzy and Haruka's research is accurate."

"Of course it is." Your friend sounds insulted that anyone would ever cast doubt on his research. "From what we can tell, it is becoming increasingly more likely for a Digimon's data to be recycled instead of simply thrown away, though it's still a coin toss on the memory issue. Add in new data, and that's why there are so many Digimon on File Island, even counting the Primary Village- the population's expanding."

"Maybe she got a new one," Tai suggests. TK shakes his head.
"But then the Dark Masters showed up."
"It doesn't work like that. I couldn't just go replace Patamon." He seems offended by the very notion. Fair enough. You don't think you could ever replace Biyomon, either.

Mimi blinks. "Is no one questioning the Agumon?"
"They didn't want the DigiDestined to have access to their Crests. They didn't want any news getting to the Analog World of what was happening. And they absolutely hated Maki Himekawa."
Before anyone can respond to that, the crowd shifts, and you realize you've missed a lot of what Myotismon was saying. "That was when this castle became the fearsome thing that it is today, at least according to our most recent Digimon resident." You can't pick Koemon out of the crowd from here, but you think she might be enjoying the attention. "Maki vanished from the face of the Digital World, and the Dark Masters were freed to once more wage war with the Sovereigns. None of them have been seen since, at least according to my knowledge."

For a moment, you consider bringing up Datamon's notes, but this probably isn't a good time for that. If there ever will be. Still, you think you might have missed something important earlier.

"Today, however... today, what they set in motion changes." There's a definite shift in Myotismon's voice now, one that everyone around you seems to notice. "Piedmon thought it amusing, to leave me a lock missing one piece of the key, however, a century later, I realized something."

He's standing at the altar now.

"They took the wrong card."

The doors begin to open.

"Oh, did we, now?"

From the shadows steps a Digimon who bears great resemblance to a clown. From description, you know at a glance what his species is.

You also probably know exactly what marking rests on his back.

At least he seems to be more focused on Myotismon than he is on you.

[ ] Through the portal. Through the portal, now.

[ ] Try to fight back. If two Champions can defeat an Ultimate, four Ultimates should stand a fighting chance against a Mega... right?

[ ] Try to Digivolve Biyomon all the way into Garudamon. But not to fight. You want to drop an earthquake on his head.

[ ] Observe what's going on. You know you shouldn't, but... it's interesting.

Shell we hit hard and fast at Piedmon?
Can't abandon Myotismon and the other digimon.

I think either Gatomon or Kari said earlier that if we head back to the Analog World, we lose the chance to save the world.

I don't think it's a good idea to try to cause an earthquake when everyone is underground, and a bunch of "civilian" Digimon are around. A huge fight isn't much safer, but hopefully they'll have more of a chance to run away.

If I remember the show right, Piedmon was the guy who solo'ed both WarGreymon and MetalGarurumon, and turned lots of the Digidestined to keychains. In other words, we're gonna be in a very VERY serious disadvantage when we fight him.

On the other hand, I'm a bit reluctant of the idea of throwing all these Digimons under the bus for ourselves. Hmmm....

-[X] Grab Koemon, that bat digimon and the wizard-looking guy as you run.

Yeeeah, no. Piedmon is the one that has conceptualhaxor powers, can turn Megas into keychains with a flick of a sheet and screw with space/time. He may have fallen to MagnaAngemon, but that was a hail-mary clutch.
