AN: I was originally going to post this tomorrow, but I thought I might as well get it up tonight since I'm pretty much done with the opening post anyway.
You are Vanessa VanCleef, daughter of Edwin VanCleef, former head of the Stormwind Stonemason's Guild and founder of the Defias Brotherhood. All throughout your life, you were raised to hate the tyrant you were taught was responsible for all the suffering of your people. The loyal citizens of Stormwind have suffered for years under the oppression and abuse of King Varian Wrynn, who lives in decadence while his people starve on the streets. The Stonemason's Guild performed backbreaking labor to erect his new palace, only to be exiled and branded criminals when the corrupt king refused to compensate them for their work.
The Defias Brotherhood was formed from all those had long suffered under the reigns of this vile tyrant and could no longer stand by while their supposed leader gorges himself on food bought with coins stolen from their pockets in safety while their friends and family are sent to war, never to return.
You were forced to be raised in secret while your father carried the grim duty of leading the rebellion of the oppressed. You were barely able to spend any time with the man you love most in life because of the dangers involved, to you and to him. The agents of the tyrant were everywhere and the only way your father could keep you safe was to keep your mere existence his greatest secret. Nevertheless, you watched in awe from the shadows as the Brotherhood grew from a small guild of disenfranchised stonemasons into an army strong enough to topple the tyrant.
You waited with baited breath for the day when the righteous finally marched on the gates of Stormwind and restored power to the people. You wanted to be there when your father brought justice to the oppressor that so heinously treated him and so many others. Above it all, you wanted to finally have to the chance to live a normal life with your family without fear of assassination.
In the fairy tales that you mother read to you at night, the valiant but outmatched band of rebels would always topple the evil king and free the kingdom. The hero was supposed to slay the evil villain and be rewarded for his great deed by living happily ever after. The Light itself should have been opposed to the tyranny of the evil king and aided the hero in his valiant struggle. Good was supposed to triumph over evil and freedom was supposed to triumph over oppression.
Those thoughts were at the front of your mind even as the lackeys of the corrupt king slaughtered their away through the army of the righteous. You believed in your father, his ideals and the power of good over evil as he fought against five assassins by himself. You believed those horrible lies right up until the moment when the assassins cut off your father's head and ransacked his body like common thieves.
On that day, three years ago, you learned that there is no deity that will help your people. There will be no gallant and righteous crusade by the oppressed to topple their oppressors. Above all, you learned that fighting with honor or civility will only lead to betrayal and death.
Your father may be dead and the Defias Brotherhood might be destroyed, but the things they represented cannot be slain by the mere swing of an assassin's blade. As long as you still draw breath, the tyrant Varian will face justice for what he has done to you, your family and your people.
After your father was murdered, you stumbled across Westfall, nearly dead from exhaustion and dehydration, before you were finally found by:
[ ] The Leader of the People's Militia
Sir Gryan Stoutmantle, founder of the People's Militia and supposed champion of the Holy Light, is the coward responsible for sending assassins to murder your father. The fool never suspected you were anything more than another impoverished orphan when he took you into his home to rise you as his own. You have lost count of the number of times you wanted to slit his throat while he slept. Despite your seething hatred for the tyrant's lackey, you are at least thankful that the man taught you how to properly wield a blade and channel the power of the Holy Light. You are currently serving as his squire and soon to be sworn into the legendary Order of the Silver Hand.
[X] A Mage from Theramore
Archmage Tervosh, agent of Lady Jaina Proudmoore of Theramore, had been investigating Defias activity in Westfall when he found you on the verge of death. You are not quite sure why he chose to take you with him back to Theramore rather than leave you behind at Sentinel Hill. At first, you hated being taken away by the allies of the tyrant to a land so far from home, but, over time, you have grown slightly fond of your new home. Lady Jaina might be extremely naive and supportive of the tyrant, but she genuinely cares for her people. You were surprised to learn that you have a gift for the arcane, and have been studying as Jaina's apprentice for over a year now.
[ ] A Stranger from Lordaeron
You are not sure how the man you only know as Fahrad found you wondering across the vast fields of Westfall, but he did nurture you back to health while ignoring your questions about his identity and motives. After you were healthy enough to travel, your savior revealed that he is a member of Ravenholdt, a secretive group of thieves, spies and assassins, and he knows who you actually are. However, rather than killing you or turning you in to the agents of the tyrant, Fahrad offered you a choice to join his organization. You knew the man had ulterior motives, but you quickly realized that the skills and resources he offered were too good to turn down.
[ ] A Pirate from Booty Bay
Captain Catelyn 'The Blade' Runeweaver, a member of the Blackwater Raiders of Booty Bay and captain of the Neptulon's Bride, had been scouting the coast of Westfall for Bloodsail Buccaneer activity when she found you. She originally boasted, rather loudly and dramatically, about selling you to slave traders in Booty Bay, but, when the ship finally returned to port, she decided to keep you around as her personal servant. During your time as a unofficial member of the crew, you have learned quite a bit about sailing and fighting from Catelyn and her crewmen. A few months ago, you were formally inducted into the Blackwater Raiders and officially became the ship's First Mate.
[ ] A Family of Local Farmers
The Saldeans are one of the few families in Westfall who are still lucky enough to be able to make a living on their small farm and they were kind enough to take you in despite how little food they had themselves. As you grew slowly grew up in the aftermath of your father's failed uprising, you watched as more and more people were forced from their homes by the heavy taxes levied to fund the Alliance's many wars. The poor and unfortunate of Westfall have become more and more desperate for any hope that might make their miserable lives worth living. You might not have had much training or experience, but you have built yourself up as someone they can relate to and trust.
You knew that revealing your true identity to the world would just make it easier for the agents of tyrant to hunt you down and finish the job. Therefore, you assumed a less recognizable identity called:
