Absolutely. After 10 thousand words into the 21 thousand word chapter of Joe going over his new experiences with his family over the last week, in which he explicitly states that he knows the issues and hasn't been able to internalise the solution yet, he gets an epiphany:I mean, TBF you sort of implied that the Therapy chapter didn't have any meaning, which is incorrect. Considering that during that chapter, Joe has officially decided that he's going to make public (Somewhat) his team.
Something that could have come from his own friends arguing that they should come with him, or could have been pointed out to him by his clones, like a majority of his philosophical development has come from. The next several thousand words of the chapter is then him talking about his new servant powers, followed by talking about how his powers seem to come from fictional sources. The fact that development has happened is literally in what I said. My other point was about the surrounding 15-18 thousand words, explicitly covering things he'd already talked about and identified.Dr. Campbell nodded. "Isolation is one of the most basic methods used to maintain control. Having a supportive social network is important to prevent that kind of thing."
A thought struck me like a lightning bolt and I suddenly shot upright in my seat. The webs of concerns that had been tangling around my mind from the moment I'd learned about Somer's Rock burned away in a flash of inspiration. All my worries about manipulation, about the behavior of the gangs and thinkers and competing factions came into focus. They were all centered on the fact that I was a lone player, that I was isolated. One person they had to focus on, to talk around and hold to any statements or commitments. Arriving on my own they could dogpile me with rhetoric and try to rope me into some commitment or obligation. No matter how firm I stood I was an easy target in that situation because I was isolated.
Deserves... deserves. Deserves.
Yes. Anti-culture. The denial of one culture - usually in favor of another. In the case of S9 led by Jack Slash - they deny all cultures, they are cancer, they destroy. They are those who wear nothing but scraps and go around destroying other fashions, contributing nothing in terms of fashion - because all they do is destroy. Not defend. Not build. Not talk. Not cultivate. They only destroy while led by Jacob "Jack Slash".As in, opposing current cultural norms in favor of an alternative set of cultural norms.
You can. Jack Slash is full of said doomer nihilistic "edgy bullshit".You, inherently, cannot be counter to All culture. Trying to claim otherwise is just edgy bullshit.
Find me an atom of justice, a molecule of mercy.Deserves... deserves. Deserves.
Deserves is a weak word from how much it's been overused.
No one deserves anything. "Deserving" is a non-existant trait. Morality at least, you can say it, subscribe to it and violate it - it will still exist despite all of that. But "deserve"? When used in this context, it's a none-sense word. Who deserves anything at all? Deserve implies a rightful action carried out in relation to the subjects moral standing - but it's like saying "we breath so therefore we need oxygen". Yes, but if that line of thinking is overused, it can miss points - and lead down a path of self-absorption. Did we deserve to live? To be happy? To suffer? To think? To die?
Is Bakuda going to experience the consequences for her self-absorption and acts of terrorism? Oh-ho yes.
Does Bakuda deserve cancer? This is a nonesense question - we are our choices and pain is not required in this scenario - only neutralization of the threat.
Psst... hey. If you read those words, there's a story in them. With character development and everything.

I suppose I am "one of the people that love that", but I don't consider it to be superfluous. With every arc, with every scene, with every paragraph, with every sentence, the story defines itself and expresses its soul, its essence. Perhaps that could have been done better, but overall I enjoy the story as it is, pacing and everything. It is the story of an ordinary but damaged man with sadly ordinary problems given great power rapidly and shown in detail how he and everyone around him copes with it.Please don't strawman. @Execute/Dumbo was being very clear that the part that could be improved is conciseness. The last couple of chapters are better, but there's still a pattern I notice where the story starts to meander on things that don't progress the plot, don't develop characters, or have any impact at all. It's just superfluous. Some people love that, others think it could be more constrained, but you can't say that this story does not have parts which could be trimmed down without something of importance being lost.

I'm firmly on the side of liking the long chapters, but that's in the context of what this story is as a piece of serial fanfiction written to satisfy niche tastes. All… this, seems like a bit much in terms of defense.I can and indeed will say that given any opportunity.
I could say any number of things, point out how some of us treasure every word, every phrase, every delicious paragraph of this great work, using specifics and examples, but I do not think that that would convey the strength of the passions that we feel towards this great work of literature.
Instead, I will quote from The Descent of Innana, from one of the oldest works of literature we have discovered. In it, the Goddess Innana is going down into the Underworld ruled by her sister, armed with all the powers and their symbols that she possesses (many of which she had won from Father Enki in an earlier chapter). There are seven gates to the Underworld, and at each one she is forced to give up some of her powers and their symbols before being allowed to proceed. At each Gate, she indignantly asks, "What is This?" to which the reply is always:
"Quiet, Innana. The Ways of the Underworld are Perfect. They May Not Be Questioned."
I mean, it wouldn't surprise me if it does get destroyed, what would surprise me is if Apeiron didn't immediately rebuild it, damn the consequences.I actually don't think the S9 will even come the Brockton Bay. In canon they only came because the entire city was practically destroyed by Leviathan and it was full on parahuman feudalism/warlord shit going on. It was the perfect amount of chaos happening for the S9 to come. However, I can't see the city ending up anywhere close to where it ended up in canon because of Joe, so the S9 realistically shouldn't come to the bay unless it somehow gets fucked a different way. Honestly though, if it gets destroyed a different way, that would feel like a cop out.
Having total confidence and having actual facts to back that confidence up (or tear it down) need not be the same thing, and in Jack's case likely won't be given his thinker power that he doesn't know about doesn't work on Joe.I don't think they'll come without total confidence they can win. They never planned on fighting Nilbog for a reason, only subverting him. Because otherwise it'd be suicide.
This might create murder hobo team friction, as maniquin, crawler, and bonesaw might all want to kill/corrupt apeiron for their own reasons and simply can't because of jack pulling on their leashes and telling them to stay downI don't think they'll come without total confidence they can win. That won't bother Jack, from his interlude this is exactly the kind of thing he enjoys dealing with. Especially due to Broadcast, he shouldn't have any trouble mediating such conflict within the S9.This might create murder hobo team friction, as maniquin, crawler, and bonesaw might all want to kill/corrupt apeiron for their own reasons and simply can't because of jack pulling on their leashes and telling them to stay down
For example every addict ever. The kleptomaniacs fall under this umbrella as well. The pushiment can and should reflect the damage the do to others, but gratuitous suffering ignores the very real loss of agency those addictive and sometime genetic behaviors create. A parahuman under the influence of a shard is as guilty as an Ex-NFL player having a manic episode and assaulting his wife. (very guilty.)Eh, I don't think complex mental issues which cause people to hurt themselves can be solved with the same level of ease as, "ouch, this stove is hot. Won't touch that stove again."
Unlikely. Usually, the delayed message appears much earlier. So far, all signs point to a fresh chapter.
Ah, a fellow follower of the saying "not being disappointed if things go wrong and being pleasantly surprised for when things go well".
How 'bout "I can't wait for the update that's coming next week" sound?Although, try to word it better in the future please. I imagine for the author it's quite discouraging if it's expected for there to be delays
*me on my high horse nodding*How 'bout "I can't wait for the update that's coming next week" sound?
