Brockton's Celestial Forge (Worm/Jumpchain)

Being some degree of bi, though, is common enough to reasonably take into account as a possibility most of the time.
I wouldn't call something that's between 3 and 5% of the population "common".
Funny, I tend to think that Bisexuality was the default state for a very long time until religion came along and claimed that sex was to be for procreation only and never for pleasure, etc.
What with Romans and Greeks just having a shitload of gay sex before going home to their wives. and their wives having lesbian sex often.

Not to mention Ruth and Naomi in the bible, the only lesbian/bi couple recorded in the bible. and so on forth...

Are we sure that the majority of straight-etric views aren't just internalized biphobia due to cultural reasons?

(note, I'm mostly being sarcastic with all of this. mostly, because it's definitely true that throughout history there was WAY more gay and bisexual people, and were seem as the default instead of straight people in some time periods due to how commonplace it was)
If you want to throw history, you should know, that fucking another guy wasn't seen as normal sex or something romantic in most cases. It was closer to a stress relief or a power play. Sort of sexual version of hazing.
As for your reply overall, it could be summed up like this: "see! on this pot there's two guys fucking, and there was that one couple, so that means everyone's gay!".
Face it. Only 3-5% of the population is gay or bi, and your idea there's more, is due to over representation in media. This reminds me one poll some TV station did on the streets of LA few years ago. They asked random people "how many people are gay", and most replied with something close to 25%.

I think we should end this here, before this thing turns into a derail.

Before I get to the replies I'd just like to point out that Jacobs Ladder could probably toss a few of his persistent electrical arks into the Crucible for Joe to extract the current cohesion effect from.

Also, and I don't know if this is a unspoken understanding by the thread or something I missed being stated or some third option, but those ADVENT nanomachines that seemingly use that stable isotope to prompt and/or enhance psychic abilities could probably be reconfigured to augment a persons nervous system with Eezo for biotic abilities. Rather then learning how to fire the correct nerves to enable a ability one could simply reconfigure the Eezo such that a nerve impulse pattern of ones choosing would trigger a biotic ability.

He maintains coastal shield systems for many cities. Faking his death would not work. If Uppercrust died then his new identity would have no history with tinker shield systems and the government would not call on him. If he reveals to the government then that secret leaks in no time.
I'm sure that there are other options.

For that matter the organization needed to form a group able to maintain them in spite of a lack of Uppercrust could be both prompted by faking his death and which could, in turn, be used as a cover for his new identity. Put him on the team used to replace him. It should be possible.

This week's back of the envelope calculations...

This is the remaining number of non-repeatable perks per point count. All info comes from the Brockton Celestial Forge Reference spreadsheet which all of you should bookmark and study.

100 points - 9 perks (six of which are Star Trek)
200 points - 5 perks
300 points - 3 perks
400 points - 12 perks
500 points - 3 perks
600 points - 40 perks. Not a typo.
800 points - 4 perks

600 point perks are now more than half of those remaining.

There are only two repeatable perks and yet we seem to hit one every chapter of late:
- The Minor Blessings & Unnatural Skill perk
- The Workshop perk

Why the dice gods have decided to go back to that well instead of one time perks is a mystery.

As always remember that LordR considers a 600 point perk to be A Big Deal(tm).

I wonder how he'll write the 800 CP perks and items.

Personally I'm waiting for the Hard Science Perk to be rolled and I'm hoping Joe gets Imagine Breaker.
Well, if 600 CP perks produce disorientation and visions, I'd wager that a suitable escalation for 800 CP perks would be collapsing into a coma followed by very vivid dreams that seem to cast Joe in the role of someone in another place.

This chapter could also be read as rather sad for Flechette, during the visit the things that brings garment joy is showing off her creations and skills in different ways, be that through a discussion about materials with Kid Win, showing Flechette her skechbook or even her sexy look which is also a demonstration of her skill. Though in the latter case only someone with knowledge of her origins and nature will consider the skill involved where people like Flechette and Kid Win might just see it as her "recreating" how she looked pre-trigger. We even see Joe talking about how impressive it looks to someone with said information.

But the ting that could be seen as sad is at the end where garment is granted the tailor workshop, as it is her greatest expression of emotion during the entire chapter.

As a final thought the most intimate cooperation between herself and another being might in Garments eyes be the making of clothes together. (spoiler Joe is already her lover, jk)

Why the dice gods have decided to go back to that well instead of one time perks is a mystery.
The dice are blind.

Speaking of which, there are two 300-point perks, Panzerkampf and Synchronicity Event, and to a lesser extent the 400-point perk Atlantean Power Crystals, that have a disproportionate impact on the probability of getting an 800 point perk, each roughly doubling it, due to being in the sweet spot where they're available early, but still soak up a lot of points, in constellations that have few options left.

There are cells of Elite made up of violent parahumans whose motive does not lie in profit. Till now they had benefits being part of national level organization. If they have salivated over more power after Uppercrust dies and suddenly it is denied to them there will definitely be some violence.
You, guys, missed another option - Uppercrust may start it. He don't like the current situation in Elite. Right now, with his health issues, he know that he don't have time for that, and also there's "I don't have to deal with it for much longer anyway, so why bother" idea. But after healing, when he'll have decades ahead of him, he may decide that will be worth to clean the Elite of the worst members.
A possibility to consider, even if not the most likely one.

Expect fierce flashbacks, reactions and reflexes a la Vietnam, WWII, and all the other wars in a particularly severe form after the Terminator perk) How do you like Joe in the image of Kyle Reese? No less firmly on the head should hit the perks of Halo, Archmagos, Tech expert and of course the Truth.

So Garment is cackling over her new workshop, Joe has gained an armor material that will let him pimp slap the Siberian, and Tetra is playing the world's strangest game of Cat's Cradle with the terror glove. This is fine, everything is fine.

I totally blame the Nazis for Joe not noticing Flechette's interests in garment. he is a product of where he is raised if he was raised in New York where Legend is he might have noticed but no it was Brockton bay in where one of the major gangs are the E88 Nazis.

The 800 CP thing for Terminator is an item. The Smash those metal motherfuckers perk is just a free perk that comes with it since it's the only thing in Terminator.

@LordRoustabout
6 chapters late, but I still wanted to say that your new style of chapters has been bombastic. Of course the truly pitiful amount of words of under 20k is heartbreaking and the pseudo-cliffhangers are irritatingly teasing but your style of writing has become exactly how I like it personally (descriptive and detailed with some greatly written personal interactions). So thank you for you choosing the path that makes you happy and NOT caving to peer pressure or silly criticism.

There are 2 things I have been confused about though. One a random tangential thought I had and the other a consistent weird feeling about this wonderful story.

Firstly how did Oni Lee work as effectively as Parahuman as he did (especially with something as difficult as the super duper timed Endbringer-slaying Teleport hug) with a broken arm? As far as I know recovery time of broken arms are around 4-6 weeks and while I do not doubt that he has a high enough Pain Tolerance to endure it or simply lacks the ability to feel normal pain (weird Call Bead induced spastic seizures non-withstanding) re-breaking his arms to the point of a complete disability would be unadvisable for a Parahuman whose whole attack arsenal relies on his ability to use his hands.

Secondly is the constant talk about analysis and reassurances in the story from nearly every perspective (not to mention that this is first time I have ever seen/read a single work (fiction or not) that used those words as often as this one does).

I thought that the reason why Parahumans and more specifically the inclusion of High-Tech (via Tinkers) into Low-Tech Worlds works without breaking the Cycle is that they are not reproducible, decipherable or in any other way being capable of being used against the Entities Design (of course the Tinkers Brain Death and Scions Sloppiness due to his Depression could explain why there is so much weight put upon Analysis). That of course is compounded by Apeiron deriving his abilities out of everyones purview and reach and thus making even Analysis that works on Parahumans shaky at best with him. Tinkers can be inspired by other work so I can understand why Technical Data on Apeiron's Work has to be very juicy but Joe does know this himself so he is going to limit any recreation of his designs as much as he can by only providing Data on Capability and not Specifics (his explanation of his neural Throne to Dragon was about as comprehensive as the average fictional SCIENCE!)

Not to forget Reassurances. Why is anyone putting so much weight onto it if there are not gonna believe it anyway? In the last few talks between Apeiron with Weld about his technology Weld said that everyone was worried and that he wants as much information as he can get while Joe basically repeated different Versions of "This is not in anyway dangerous" or "Don't poke it with a stick and you'll be fine" and the Protectorate is still loosing their shit and worried as fuck.
Considering that Joe is a near complete unknown with powerful abilities, a somewhat heroic intent and an abnormal dedication either to his contracts or the Undersiders, that is somewhat understandable.
In Worm though the Undersiders changed the Wiki Information of themselves (or maybe just Theo) to limit information on their own abilities which was tactically sound in a world where most powered individuals are non-brutes (not even pseudo-Brutes like in most Comics) and thus the smallest of advantages can mean the difference of being turned into living spaghetti or survival, so misinformation is key to a Parahumans continued Existence. Additionally the vaunted Protectorate Thinker Tank has shown their ability by being completely thrown off by Joe's character traits (it is hilarious that it was not even Joe's Jump-chan derived abilities that veered them off logical coherency) and clearly does not provide the perfect Lie-Detector that would explain the weight put upon reassurances.

Given that the technology he made 6 days ago was already creating a seimic event the decision to treat the parahuman equivalent of high grade Uranium ready to be processed into a Nuclear Bomb like it is already near ignition and then start to gently hammer it because it is not under their complete and utter control is confusing. Is the concept of a subtle touch beyond them? Shards do push their Hosts for more Combat and creative use of their abilities but it does not override the fear of death and yet you have made it pretty clear that the other Parahuman Factions in Brockton Bay are going to do the equivalent of taking out the sledgehammer (I really like this metaphor and yes I know that kinetic force is not what makes the Uranium go Boom-Boom, the point still stands though) in the Bermuda Bar.
I understand that Apeiron is scary as fuck especially with the the fear of the unknown for most but blindly flailing in panic is not how long experienced Professionals or Parahumans who care about surviving the next week would react like, they would either try to work with the Titan in their midst or get the hell away from him, not antagonize the guy who one-shot an Endbringer Tier (at least in their own eyes is late Stage Lung comparable to an Endbringer) Being and whose future Goals are unknown.
With the chasing Apeiron meme and his growing infamy I don't even think that the Reputation loss would be so severe. So only crazies like the Teeth would challenge him.

The Assumption that Apeiron would limit himself to Brockton Bay is completely understandable though so I understand why most of the country or the world is just looking with concerned amusement at the Situation.

P.S I am sorry if this sounds in any way mean. I have followed this story since near the beginning, made this account specifically for it and have reread certain chapters up to a few dozen times so it is frustrating that the closest approximation i have for this is that the whole analysis and reassurances bit feels both too rational and maddeningly stupid at times. So to finally write this out is way more cathartic than I thought, though I hope that as a non native English Speaker and someone with a tendency to ramble on and on my point and confusion comes across.

I hope you enjoy writing this story as much as I enjoy reading it.

That makes some sense but I'm curious how you calculated it?

I'm going to laugh really hard when Joe rolls some insane powers next chapter and realizes his power considers talking to his family the equivalent of fighting Bakuda.
Ok but imagine he rolls Arch-Magos... like... "Sorry Alena, I just experienced memories of being a super technician of a fascist future super-empire. I'll be hanging up now."

Actually thinking about it again, wouldn't Arch-Magos mean that he'd learn Gothic? Maybe even a bit of High Gothic? Like he just walks into the Lab, and perfectly understands the Hymns...

High gothic, some low gothic and Lingua-technis

also technically the Imperium isn't Fascist .. tho having that level of centralization is their eternal wet dream
It's more of a medieval confederation with heavy doses of theocracy

I think a whole argument could be made as to whether or not groups like The Empire(Star Wars) or The Imperium are facist, and I think it would probably best to not have such discussions here. I don't exactly agree, but it's best to leave it here.

Well, considering that Joe will eventually have to fight at least one chthonic monster anyway(remember that in addition to the warrior, Abaddon is hanging around somewhere), he will need all the possible firepower. There are too many of them for him at the moment. Even endbringers he may not be able to master at the moment, at least without significant collateral damage to everything around him, because it will be necessary to roll out all the available doomsday machines.
Abaddon and who knows how many other Entities that exist. There could be millions. Question, I can't remember if it is fanon or canon, but did Abaddon use his PTV to make Eden crash to give humanity a chance because he believes that cooperation is the way to solve negentropy?

Reeks of fanon. Especially since Contessa's Path to Victory is his PTV, if I'm not mistaken. And that shard just tried to take Zion's place in Ward.

I remember something about Abaddon specifically being different because he cooperates with the host species and doesn't kill them, but I could be wrong. Also, PTV was Abaddon's, but Abaddon and Eden traded shards, making the PTV Eden's, right? If it was still Abaddon's you would think he would come back for it or something, because it is so powerful it can predict other Entities. IIRC, Eden had a way worse PTV until she traded with Abaddon.

Edit: According to Worm Wiki, Abaddon's last two cycles ended with the host species forming a planet-spanning, artificial gestalt by their own initiative.

I'd think that if Abaddon gave it to Eden with the intent to distract her into dying to save humanity, he would have made some token effort to ensure the shard didn't try to un-save humanity. Also, if he valued humans as a potential cooperation partner or whatever, why just abandon them to suffer in a malfunctioning cycle?

Does it provide a link for the source of that claim?

Well that's shocking an entity that isn't a jerk to a host species, maybe it would possible for Joe to become a ally with that entity…or not depends.

I doubt Abbadon actually values humanity except for maybe their creativity and that's it. In my opinion and don't take it as canon, Abaddon probably was for more a low energy effort to set up Eden to die and knew that it didn't need to interfere especially with PTV going to a host that will do the job for him. Maybe Abbadon wanted something or a shard to take over the cycle and steal the data and shards from Eden and Zion. Since it couldn't fight them both alone it had to be more indirect and later left to continue its thing wait for results from its spy and hidden weapon

Does it provide a link for the source of that claim?
Here
Two of his previous cycles, before arriving to Earth, were a planet of "poncho-wearing snakes", and a planet where everything was alive, traumatic insemination and horizontal gene transfer was strongly prominent even in complex and intelligent organisms, and "every species could breed with every species". Both cycles had ended in hosts forming a planet-spanning, artificial gestalt by their own initiative.[7]
