Brockton's Celestial Forge (Worm/Jumpchain)

I have read several times in the thread that this story is updated regularly.
Would someone be kind enough to tell me what is the time interval between two chapters?
thank you

He just kicked someone who wrestles endbringers into the SUN. S class is inevitable.
That's different than churning out what apparently might be seen as a machine army. Machine armies have connotations that FTL-level vehicles do not have.

I mean, would you want to be the guy who can theoretically transport people to other planets or the guy who can dominate the world with robots?

Not if anyone is thinking more than 30 seconds. There is nothing that seperates most FTL drives and a planet cracking weapon. Being able to act as high end robospree is cool and all, but it's not going to level a city if someone forgets the earth is a backstop and shoots under the horizon line.

But I just thought it was funny because Joe was JUST called out in character to stop upgrading his gear and just run with what works rather than het caught in an endless cycle of upgrades.

yeah... sadly, no one is.

preconceptions and all that. Cars could kill you as much as guns can but we're still afraid of the latter than the former (cars could even act as small bombs). not everyone's acting on logic and I think its bad to generalize people based on that

it would probably destroy the plot and the story, me thinks... but yeah, it kind of feels frustrating reading all that crap and still being told that it wasn't enough. Then again, most of us came here for the technobabble and not the plot so... yeah, if you want rational actions tho, might as well read rational fics

I assume you haven't read LordR's comments on the topic, considering what you're saying. If you haven't go read that. If you don't want to, I'll put it in spoilers here:

Lung: Dead, gone, not happening again. This character has been removed. No longer exists.

Oni Lee: Not a threat. Basically, he's a robot with no programming telling him what to do. He pushed his power so hard he now has little to no autonomy left. As of right now, he's on his way to a clinic to be healed, after which he'll stand around and do nothing because no one is ordering him around.

Bakuda: Not a threat. Super Tinker Cancer. Most likely is going to 1: Die, or 2: Go to the PRT and beg them for help. They'll tell her to disable the Deadman switch, cure her cancer and throw her in the Birdcage.

March: She is also no a threat. March's threat to Joe was mainly how she could co-ordinate people. She is currently a shard zombie thing, her mind is currently running on shard OS. She can't interact with people in the same way she previously did, which was why she was so dangerous. March has peaked in terms of threat. She's done.

Long story short, ABB is done, not a thing anymore. We're moving on to the next threat.

Oh my god I can't describe how utterly happy this makes me. I'm 100% going to reread that chapter with all this in mind, because I was so frustrated during the first reading that I could barely enjoy the amazing fight scenes. This has genuinely made my day and I thank you for sharing that with me. And yeah, I felt bad sharing my thoughts on the matter with so many more pages unread, but I felt like I had to share my thoughts as I had them to really convey my feelings on it.

Anyway time to go back dozens of pages and play catch up!

Is it wrong to hope that coil picks up squeeler, trainwreck and mush from the merchants and role them into working for him. Squeeler, chariot and trainwreck colaborating might have some incredible potential and coils mercenaries using squeelers vehicles that has the otger tinkers colaboration coordinated via coil could likely mess up a few out of town gangs. Not to mention givings squeelers vehicle the laser attachment to reverse engineer for point defense.

There's something to be said for one-shot-ing an arc villain on your way to her last remaining beefy ally that makes her defeat so much more satisfying.

Sure, she got her licks in, but the moment she thought she had won, she realized that Apeiron has even more depths of bullshit than she had expected and got wrecked as fast as you'd expect a fragile thinker to get wrecked by an enraged Apeiron.

One thing you should remember is that ALL SHARDS ARE SANDBAGGING. It ain't just the Endbringers, according to Ward canon, any and all shards can become mini-Endbringers known as Titans without the Entity's limitations and oversights. Joe himself says since he's outside context, the shards will boost their host's power levels/control, which they can potentially do all the way up to Titan level, whenever the host is nearby him to Pavlovian condition hosts into spending time interacting with Joe so that they can harvest data on him. This means that if LordRoustabout really wants to up the stakes, Joe might have to fight each and every shard before killing Scion to prevent broken triggers or Titan shenanigans in the aftermath of Scion's death - hell, he might even have to deal with the remnants of Eden or all the proto-Entities the shards keep trying to form. Long story short, Joe will NOT be ROFLstomping the Wormverse - he is a human Tinker 12, not a Diebuster.

In which case he should get massively more powerful. I don't remember the capes in canon Worm getting ridiculously stronger every time they were beaten, not like keeps happening here. Ah it's Ward stuff. Whatever the case I hope it stops showing up here because all it does is make any advancement feel meaningless (spend tens of thousands of words on hyping up new powers only for SUPERSHARD to go "Nope I'm a million times stronger now because reasons!").

Eh it's not important. I'm just glad I'm finally caught up and this arc is finally over. It could be a tenth as long without much being lost (again, the fact that from chapter 16 to now is more than half the entire Harry Potter series means there has got to be a way to lower the superfluous word count), but I'm just thrilled it's done. I desperately, fervently hope we never see March, Bakuda, or Oni Lee ever again in this story. Because in that spoiler it said:

The ABB as a group was done. It didn't necessarily say the individuals were done. And that kind of worries me. The moment I see them pop up I'm tempted to run from this story because I literally can't handle another almost million words of March/Bakuda/Oni nonsense.

While I also hate how difficult it has been to deal a meaningful blow on March before this, I wouldn't necessarily hate seeing her pop up again... if only to see how her defeat has shredded her. She could even turn out to be a threat again, in her zombie-shard-puppet state, and as long as she isn't an inexplicable force multiplier for an entire gang again, it will at least feel fresh compared to her previous shenanigans.

Update within 4 hours bois, the time of update and final interlude is upon us...

Also anyone wanna talk about isekai'ing Joe into any other verse for fun to pass the time?

How about Isekai'ing him into a generic (or grimdark) Magical Girl setting?

He already has all the markings of a Tuxedo Mask, just none of the bad parts. Also I want to see Joe get skeeved out as the magical girls flirt with him. It would be hilarious.

Lord has already made a wog answering this. Shards will not pull up new moves or stronger ones to get apeirons data is just going to basically give them a speed boost like for example with lung growing faster, so for low level cape is not going to make any difference to Joe in fights based on his power level.

Shards never make their hosts more powerful, unless it's a baked in feature like with Dauntless. Not even in Ward. Shards encourage actions they want their host to take by adjusting the variables of their power, making things a bit more flexible or efficient for them. In the case of Lung his power is already "getting stronger" so he just got stronger faster. In the case of March, her boosts and the boosts of those she guided were simply icing on the cake to the far more potent power synergies she set up between the parahumans under her guidance.

I don't remember the exact word of god, but the "Boosts" other people get from Joe work something like this. Apologies if I'm unknowingly filling in the blanks in my memory with bullshit:

1. You are in direct conflict with Joe. Your power has become far more efficient and flexible than usual.

2. You are in indirect conflict with Joe. You get the boost you might get from being in direct conflict with a regular cape.

3. You are a direct ally of Joe. Whatever adjustment your shard is doing to your power is probably hard to distinguish from the help Joe is giving you, but your shard definitely likes what's going on.

Well, in regards to the spoiler, they aren't going to have even remotely the same threat level. For the story purposes, the ABB arc is done and we're moving on. Again, while the individuals might still pop up, they won't be even half a threatening. Though I will say that Oni Lee is most likely never going to be a thing in the story again. March may, in her now single-minded drive to eat Flechette and Bakuda has super cancer, so I don't know about her.

And even if they do pop up, it'll probably be for a short while at most. They aren't main antagonist material anymore.
