Chapter 1 New

Tilting his Vanes and Ennobling His Spires
Qrow heard a cry from Ruby from the storage shed, rushing over as quickly as he could. Throwing open the door, he found the seven year old in front of a circle on the ground, clutching her head and crying. And in that circle… Well, Qrow was pretty sure it was once a human or something, but what ever it was now, he decided as he watched the heart pulse in an open check cavity, could wait until he got Ruby out of here.

Scooping up the girl, he carried her away frim the abomination and into the house, barking, "Tai!"

Tai came down the stairs, looking confused until he saw Ruby. Grabbing her, he asked, what happened.

"I tried to bring mom back," Ruby cried, tears running down her cheeks, "but- but things went wrong. There was a white place, abd a outline of me, and a giant door- and- and- I can't see!"

"What?" Tai asked as Qrow jerked in shock. Was that thing out there… That was supposed to be Summer? And what did Ruby mean she couldn't see-

Qrow watched with horrified realization as Ruby groped the air, like she was searching for something but couldn't find it. She was blind.

Qrow handed Ruby over to Tai, where she promptly buried her head in his shoulder and began crying harder, before turning to the door.

"Where are you going?" Tai asked.

"There was a thing back there… It was fucking disgusting Tai, I'm going to deal with it and call in some favors," pulling out his Scroll as he walked out the door, he called a number, when it picked up, he said, Oz, I need a favor. I need a top of the line Ada unit."

Ruby looked around the void, a giant door with a tree carved on it floated in the air.

"You've been a naughty girl, Ruby," a voice said from behind her. She turned to find a blank copy of herself sitting with one leg on the ground and the other propped up so it could rest a hand against it. It's mouth, the only feature it had, was smiling at her in the same way dad did when he got angry.

"Who are you? Where's mom? I was supposed to- supposed to-

"Who am I? You can call me God, or the World, All, One, the Truth or You. Your mom isn't here, Ruby, she's gone, and trying to bring her back was a mistake."

"I- I just wanted to see her again," Ruby said, eyes welling with tears.

"And there's nothing inherently wrong with that," Truth said, her smile turned to a small, understanding frown, "it's how you did that was the mistake. Summer's gone somewhere you can't follow yet. And instead we're in this mess."

"Mess?" Ruby asked as the edges of her vision got dark. The door behind her began to open."

"Nothing can be gained without giving something in return. You did something really bad, and now you're gonna have to pay for it… But you'll become smarter out if it."

Black hands began to reach for, Ruby, wrapping around her as her vision became a pinprick focused on Truth. She finally cracked, "I just wanted my mom back. I know the book called it "trying to play god", but I just… Just… I couldn't give up the chance."

"I know," Truth said, almost comfortingly, and Ruby thought she saw someone else move out of the corner of her quickly vanishing vision.

Then she was ripped into the door, information pouring into her mind and-

Her Ada chirped, and Ruby woke suddenly, cold sweat pouring down her back. She hated that memory. Climbing out of bed, Ruby walked through the house with familiar ease, touching certain spots to confirm her location until she entered the kitchen and began to cook for everyone. This was an important day, it was the day Yang and her went to Beacon!

Jaune knocked a girl aside in his rush to reach the trash bin, but moments after he was done puking, he was pulled up by a pair of hands and turned around, watching the girl climb to her feet using the blonde who had grabbed him's body as a support.

"Hey!" The blonde said, "watch where you're going!"

"Yang, I'm fine. There are just so many people here that Ada couldn't warn me in time," the girl said, before pausing, "Oh, excuse me, Miss Schnee, let me move so you can get through."

She took a big step forwards, letting a carriage full of suitcases pass by. The most beautiful girl Jaune had ever seen, with snow white hair and deep blue eyes closed her mouth, looking over the brunette carefully.

"You said you have an Ada unit?"

"Top of the line," the girl said, "We upgrade every time there's a new breakthrough. This one's only a year old.

"You must be skilled, to be let in so early when you have a disability like that," Schnee said, something glimmering in her eyes.

"I have my talents is all. I stopped a robbery from Roman Torchwick and Professor Ozpin asked me to come join early. I'm Ruby Rose, by the way, and this is my big sister Yang, Weiss."

"A pleasure to meet you," she said, "now, we should be off towards the auditorium."

"A pleasure to meet you," she said, "now, we should be off towards the auditorium."
Weiss Schnee seems nicer to Ruby in this story here than in canon where she is quite rude and condescending. But that's cool and I look forward to see how this Ruby handle herself on Beacon Academy as leader of Team RWBY once more and being an alchemist.

I will watching this with great interest.

Chapter 2 New
Ruby landed in the forest a bit rougher than she intended, "Ada, one kilometer pulse, locate all humans and faunus."

"Of course… Yang Xiao Long, .9 Kilometers to the north. Unknown, .9 Kilometers to the north. Pyrrha Nikos, .7 Kilometers to the west. Unknown, .7 Kilometers to the west. Weiss Schnee, less than .1 meters to the west. Lie Ren, .6 Kilometers to the east. Nora Valkyrie, . 5 kilometers to the east. Those are all identifiable human and faunus within the area."

Unknowns? People at Beacon without Scrolls? Weird. Ruby paused as she had a loud crunch, "Ada, activate Cyrano Protocol and do not turn it off until ordered otherwise."

It was like she could see again, kinda, as Ada sent out rapid short range pulses to feed her brain a map of the surrounding area, updating faster than it normally did, every millisecond instead of every couple of seconds. There were lots of trees, but also… Beowolves, stalking through the woods. They were highlighted in red compared to the monotone grey of everything else. Clapping her hands together, she reached out with her gloved hand and snapped, flames exploding outwards and swallowing four of the five Grimm whole. Clapping again, she slammed her hands into a nearby tree, transmuting part of it into an iron hard javelin of wood, throwing it through the last Grimm's eye.

High above her, Ada detected a Nevermore flying through the air as Creeps burrowed below her. Clapping her hands, she punched the ground with a hand covered in a gauntlet, sending spikes bursting into the tunnel and impaling the Creeps. Standing up, she found a girl lit up in blue, with a side ponytail and a combat skirt.

"Hello, Weiss," Ruby said, pulling down her hood and doing her best to meet Weiss's eyes. Weiss nodded, storing her rapier.

"Hello, Ruby."

Weiss watched Ruby pull up the hood of her red jacket again, hiding her blankly staring eyes from the world. This was perfect, she had got a prodigy, now she needed Pyrrha and one other highly skilled member and her Team would be perfect!

They walked through the trees, occasionally stopping to hide from a Giant Nevermore that was passing around the area, diving before swooping up again.

Weiss really didn't want to think about what that could mean, especially the times loud screams filled the air shortly after it dived. Beacon wasn't… Serious, about not helping them, were they?

Ruby didn't seem concerned, just walking forwards, touching trees with her right, gauntleted hand as she went. Suddenly she stopped, holding out a hand to Weiss and putting a finger to her lips. She quietly clapped her hands, before sticking out her left hand and snapping it.

An explosion of flames rushed out from her fingers, swallowing the area in front of them whole. When it faded, it was to decaying Grimm bodies and a clearing. Ruby shook her hand slightly, like she was airing it out.

"What… What was that?" Weiss said, "do you wear clothes with dust weaves? Do you know how dangerous it is to do that?"

"Nope," Ruby said, before snapping the gloved hand again, a spark flying out of it, "My glove is made of a material that acts like flint when snapped. Combine that with my Alchemy, and I can create pockets of oxygen to ignite."

"Alchemy?" Weiss said, confused.

"Think of it like applied chemistry. I came across it in an old book, did something really dumb and really traumatizing, I wasn't born blind to give you an idea, and learned a lot more. For example," Ruby clapped her hands and swung around, slamming the open palm into the diving Nevermore's beak, skidding back as she did, "Grimm bones are made of a highly dense carbon compounds, reverse that, snap the molecular bonds and reshape them and a you get-!"

Ruby punched with her gauntleted hand, smashing through the skull, which had greyed considerably, and pulled her hand out with a shower of rapidly fading blood.

"-you get something more fragile than graphite," Ruby said cheerfully as she finally stopped a good 50 meters from where she started, "'The Serpent of Vacuo is my name, that which is leader of all this game; that sometimes was both wood and wild, and now am I both meek and mild. The Sun and Moon with their might, have chastised me that was so light.'"

"That sounded like a bunch of nonsense," Weiss said bluntly.

"It's from an old Alchemist," Ruby just laughed, as it clearly had made sense to her, "come on, let's get to the ruins, they should only be another fifth of a kilometer out.

Yang was in the middle of working with her new partner and a bunch of other students to fight off a Giant Deathstalker, sending flare rounds at it where they exploded hopelessly against its shell. Where the hell was Ruby when you needed her?

Diving out of the way of a stinger stab that would have definitely killed her, Aura be damned, she came up to see Pyrrha Nikos cut off the stinger, leaving it embedded in the ground. Well, that was one less weapon at least.

Blake barely slid beneath the snapping left claw, sword skipping against the bone as she finished the skidding spin.

"What do we do?" A blond boy asked, even as his sword bounced helplessly off the shell and he was forced to be pulled away by the lithe boy in green to avoid being crushed between its right pincers.

"Silvers' guide to Grimm Hunting says that the best way to kill a Deathstalker is to flip it!" Pyrrha called , before saying in frustration, "but how do you do that."

"Flip it…" The boy in green said, eyes landing on the ginger girl thrown away from the Grimm by her own hammer, "Nora, I think it's time to use Uncle Alex's gift!"

Nora's eyes lit up, and she grabbed something off her back, a pair of knuckle dusters with a long extension covering the back of her hand, a circle on it, "Screw flipping it! This secret has been passed down the Armstrong line for generations!"

Familiar blue lightning came from the ground and surged underneath the Deathstalker before exploding into a massive spike that drilled into the bottom of the it and lifted it into the air where it squirmed for a minute before two more spikes joined it, killing the Grimm.

Yang's jaw hung open for a moment longer, before she said, "You know Alchemy?"

"Yep! My Uncle Alex taught it to me!" The girl said cheerfully as Ruby and Weiss stepped out of the forest.

"What'd we miss?" Ruby asked.

Coco Adel was watching the new teams be named, eating a slice of cake as she did so, when Ozpin called out, "Ruby Rose, Weiss Schnee, Blake Belladonna, and Yang Xiao Long, from today forwards you will work as Team RWBY, led by Ruby Rose!"

The hooded girl jerked, clearly surprised.

Heh, that was interesting.
