Homura smiled to herself.

She was a magical girl, and she'd have a chance to meet her all over again!

With forewarning, they'd defeat Walpurgisnacht, together.

She practically ran to the school, but before she even got close, her eyes glimpsed the magical girl who had saved her, what felt like so very long ago, who had encouraged her to be strong, whose strong sense of right and wrong had convinced Homura that she could fight alongside her now.

Was she even a magical girl yet? She looked so normal right now, but still radiated life and energy when talking with her other friends, walking down the street.

Homura smiled, she didn't think of the fact that the other wouldn't know her yet, didn't think that they hadn't been introduced, she simply began waving her arm, opened her mouth and yelled "Sayaka!"

The girl in question jerked, startled, before turning around and sighting the stranger yelling her name.

Her face was thoroughly confused, and she awkwardly raised her hand and waved back, not quite certain if she was the person being addressed.

And that's when a bus slammed into Sayaka's side.

Homura stood there, arm still raised, utterly frozen as Sayaka was sent flying, utterly frozen. She'd just… she'd killed Sayaka.

What… what had she…

She slowly lifted her arm, glancing at her shield, absently noting that she'd somehow donned her magical girl uniform.

Right.

Time travel.

Sayaka laughed awkwardly, scratching at the back of her head. She might have preferred that the others not believe her when she mentioned seeing the new girl in a dream over their current teasing.

"Ah, maybe you will get a chance to speak with her," Hitomi said, glancing to the side of their table.

Homura was approaching, with a focus on Sayaka, not even bothering to glance at the other two girls.

"Sayaka Miki." She said, and Sayaka suppressed a gulp. The girl sounded like when her parents scolded her, but somehow worse. "Have you checked the expiration date on that milk?"

"Eh?" She blinked. That was… random. Prompted by the question, she glanced at the drink in her hand. "Is that…" her eyes widened. "It expired last year?!"

Homura seized it, and did… something with it, making it disappear.

Homura gazed at her from her standing position, her cold, dead eyes staring into Sayaka's very soul. "Always check the warning labels of every product that you use. Don't go down any dark alleys because they make convenient shortcuts. Look before you cross the street. And don't forget to look upwards." With that thoroughly cryptic advice, Homura left.

The three girls stared at each other, having no idea as to what the hell just happened.

*****

Sayaka stretched. It had been kind of scary when that fuel tanker had crashed near her, apparently some American director had been filming a movie in the area and they'd thought that they'd cleared the area.

Fortunately, whoever was in charge of special effects had apparently screwed up, as all of the explosives attached to the tanker had found mysteriously found themselves in the Director's trailer.

Her friends were magical girls, there was a mysterious girl who seemed to have an odd interest in her (and she wasn't quite sure how she felt about that), and she'd nearly died twenty seven times in the past week.
Life sure was interesting for her, lately.

Or, possibly to her, she thought as a roughly schoolgirl sized object slammed into her side.

She looked down at the shape in her side, and her eyes widened, taking in the long black hair.

"Wha-" she started speaking, only for the girl to raise three fingers.

Then two.

Then one.

A massive crash came from the spot that Sayaka had just been standing, followed by cracking noise.

"What the-" she froze, as Homura stood up, brushing at her skirt as though nothing particularly notable had happened.

"A week ago, a Russian satellite suffered catastrophic damage, and eighteen fragments were sent to Mitikihara City." Homura stood, staring at the girl before her. "I have witnessed you being threatened by seven of them."

"Oh." Sayaka winced. "Wait, why would you even know that-"

"I'd recommend that you hide in the basement, but there are problems with your home's structural foundations."

Sayaka blinked, and shook her head, and took a deep breath. She… didn't want to be ungrateful, and she wanted to know what was going on, so, "Listen, you've been stal- protecting me for a while, right? Do you just want to… hang out openly? It'd probably be easier." She blushed, hoping that Homura wouldn't take it the wrong way.

Homura nodded, and they began walking together.

*****

Sayaka shook her head, in tears. "I… you mean, no matter what, if our Soul Gems go black, they'll, I'll, I'll-"

Homura shook her head. While the regenerative qualities granted Sayaka's typical wish were incredibly useful for Sayaka, there were downsides. Like this.

"No, I won't, I won't let myself be turned! I won't kill any innocents! I quit!" With that, Sayaka's soul gem flew up into the air, and Homura was too startled to stop time before the sword pierced it, shattering it into a thousand pieces.

Kyubey popped up onto the railing. I… can honestly say I wasn't expecting that. He paused for a moment. Did, uh, did she actually know that-

Homura sighed. "No, no she did not."

******

Homura stood before Kyoko, briefcase in hand. "I have an offer that you're unlikely to refuse." She said.

Kyoko raised an eyebrow. "Oh yeah?"

Homura pulled out a photograph. "I will be leaving the country for a time. I need you to protect this girl. She is likely to contract."

Kyoko scowled, her Pocky in mouth. "And what makes you think I'd be willing to protect some new magical girl? A new kid on the block just means less witches for the rest of us."

With that, Homura silently opened the briefcase.

"Holy-" Kyoko's eyes widened, and the Pocky fell out of her mouth, unnoticed.

Truthfully, Homura could have probably convinced Kyoko to do the job for less, but, well, startling Kyoko into forgetting about her food was an item on her bucket list.

Kyoko stared at the insides of the briefcase. "Is… it real?"

"Take it to any pawnshop, and they'll confirm each of these ingots to be real gold. Of course, to get anywhere near its real value, you might have to contact the Yakuza."

Kyoko glanced up sharply. "And how did you get this?"

"Magical powers. I don't expect that anyone will miss this." In this particular timeline, at least.

"Well, sign me up!"Kyoko said with a grin.

Homura nodded, and left. She had to get a plane to South Korea. And from there, North.

She was going to have a few surprises for Walpugisnacht, this time around.

A surprise measured in kilotons.

...

She was going to nuke the bitch.

*****

When she returned, she had been expecting to get there… close. Unanticipated delays had meant that she'd arrive soon after Walpugisnacht's arrival.

Hopefully she'd get there on time- she noted the clear skies.

Huh.

She continued walking, and was greeted by two magical girls, holding a bowling ball sized soul gem. "Hey, creepy chick!" Kyoko said with a wave.

"What happened here?"

"Ah, well, as it turns out, we're a pretty good team, Sayaka and I. Wasn't really sure about this job of yours, but, well, we started talking, and-"

Homura stared.

Analyzing the grins they shared, the proximity, Kyoko not quite dodging Sayaka's grasping hand and being forced to clasp hands.

Her arm reached for her shield. One more loop wouldn't hurt, right?

I was bored, alright?
