This is a continuation of my quest,
A Stroll through the Multiverse. You should probably read that first. It won't take very long.
To be perfectly frank, I have no earthly idea how to run a system-based quest but tried to pretend like I had something to work with. I regret that choice a great deal. Despite no longer wanting to run a quest, I still want to write the story of Sora and the other Walkers. So, it shall be continued…
Beyond the Sky

It had been six months. The Alliance had been able to stave off the Astral Invasion for one hundred and twenty days. So much had happened in that time.
Allies had been gained…

"Fascinating
. I've never seen a Guardian quite like this one before."
The Guardian in question hovered before me, based on some winged creature I'd never seen before. It was known as an Exemplar, an Astral Guardian that granted brief flashes of the future. Not particularly far, only a split second, but that moment could often be the difference between life and death.
However, what held the Mummy-Man's attention wasn't its powers, but rather its coloration. The avian was a deep shade of scarlet, and I sincerely doubted that was all that was different about it. I felt a miniscule amount of Red deep within it, inactive but most definitely there.

…offers were rejected…

"Walker. Will you stand aside?"
A construct of Blue and Black, an Omen, stood in the middle of what used to be a park, now a wasteland twisted by the Astral energies that had spread. The Shadow Lord had oh so graciously
deigned to extend me an ultimatum offer. Stay out of his way or die like the rest.
Now, this isn't my first-time hearing something like this. Despite being humanities hope to live beyond the destruction of Earth, Project Exodus seemed to be approximately 50% comprised of assholes. Even discounting the literal serial killer
they'd let on-board, I'd lost track of how many times some fuckwit with no sense of self-preservation tried to give me an ultimatum. What I did remember was how I'd always responded.
I broke out laughing.
"Like I've told everyone before you, no
. And not just no
, but hell no
."
"I see. So, you have chosen to reject the Shadow Lord's generosity. A pity."
"
Well tell Gargles
," I stressed the nickname I'd given the Shadow Lord, "that he can take his oh so generous
offer and shove it
. He wouldn't bother trying to get me out of the way unless he was afraid of me."
"If you truly believe yourself to be a threat to the Shadow Lord, then you are a deluded fool."
"Maybe. Maybe not. Besides, at the end of the day?"
My face broke into a manic grin as an aura of fire surrounded me.
"That's a chance I'm willing to take."

…and true loyalties were lain bare.

In hindsight, it made sense that this plan would blow up in Kan-Ra's face. From what I understood, the Mummy-Man hasn't had the best track record. Try to conquer some ancient city? Cursed to lose all his charisma in addition to rotting away. Attempt to take control of a massive source of power within the Astral Plane? Nice job jackass, you just unleashed an Eldritch being of untold power. Have someone track down and reassemble the corpse of another Eldritch being to use as a weapon against Gargles? Take a wild guess how that'd gone.
Which left me to try and salvage the Mummy's latest fuck-up. I'd followed his trail of destruction for almost a week, trying to convince the Biclops to side with us against Gargles. While there wasn't any love lost between the two, especially considering that he was the reason I could see the two halves Eyedol's brain
, the former Shadow Lord didn't think we could bring anything to the table.
Now I stood over the broken body of Eyedol, his soul held in my hands. He had regained his full power, but even then, I triumphed over him.
"Perhaps… you are
capable of standing against Gargos. I will aid this… 'Alliance' you spoke of."
I'd finally won him over. An asset of tremendous value for the Alliance, a creature powerful enough to oppose Gargles on his own. And then it all went wrong.
The Titan's spirit collapsed in on itself, crushed by an unseen hand.
"I'm afraid I can't allow that to happen."
I recognized the voice and turned to face the source. Occlus, one of ARIA's servants. We'd met once or twice, but I hadn't really taken any time to get to know her. What was she thinking!? Eyedol wasn't the immediate threat, and he's finally agreed to work with the Alliance! Even ARIA wouldn't kill him now, not when we had a bigger, more immediate threat to deal with. Unless…
"Did you think you were the only one the Shadow Lord extended his offer to? That you were the only
Planeswalker in this world? How arrogant."

It had all led up to this. Despite our best efforts, we couldn't stem the corruption, only slow it down. Half the world had fallen to it. The time had finally come.
The Shadow Lord finally had arrived.
