Benefaction: A Combine Ck2 Quest in Star Wars Legends

They get stalkered if they are resistant and non-compliant.

We're using Alyx units here so Combine Workers are likely a thing.

It's up to the populace and their skills what brand of conversion they become, so long as they are administration or tactics dice in the end it's all gravy.

This fear is so understandable and I had a touch of it myself.

Hopefully it's just that when up against the Hutts we look a little brighter with our hyper focus on squeezing every last drop of potential resources out of other people's planets.

Speaking of, I wonder if at some point we'll be making the planet into a space station via just the sheer scale of our strip mining and building plans, shearing away anything unhelpful to our goals for use in other forms and bringing in more resources from outside.
Look. Sometimes I just wanna be the bad guy.

@Mantising i was wondering what you were going for with how much personality and autonomy combine soldiers retain; i had half a mind to write up a quick 'daily schedule' sort of thing for a combine squad that's in their rest/training cycle and I was wondering if they have enough mind left for something like a freetime period to be meaningful for them.

We're fully into Half-Life 2 Era indoctrination, the current-gen Soldiers are barely recognizable as Human personality wise, just 'sleeping' training and patrolling. Alyx Era soldiers had enough autonomy to joke around with each other, but at this point the only units that would have a recreation desire would be Grunts and your eventual CPs.

Though saying that I am open to Omakes, it's just that Independent thought is a rarity for the Combine.

Understood, I was basically thinking that they just tuned down the emotional suppressors for a hour and gave them a deck of cards, free range access, or STATE APPROVED LITERATURE/MEDIA to keep them more stable and reduce the need for drugs and brainwashing sessions but that was a bit of a headcanon humanization thing that I admit takes away both canon and their disturbing nature. Sorry to bring it up!

Half-Life 2 Era troops only have enough humanity to panic in the instant before death (some of them curse at the sight of a live grenade near them). Otherwise the only real hint was a Nova Prospeckt guard having a slight bit of disbelief in his tone reporting Gordon was rampaging around the prison with the antlions.

On the flipside, can hear zombines still giving reports despite having a headcrab on their heads..

the only real evidence of stuff I can find online like that is the panic they have in real bad combat, the fact that they seemed to be running for their lives during the Citadel meltdown, their fear of punishment by off world relocation (which suggests they have some sense of self preservation outside of immediate combat and want an easy time of things), and apparently they have SOME concept of morale and hype because Breen was giving them a speech and admonishing them in the Citadel. Other than that it was mainly wishful thinking on my part, I already knew they were basically lobotomized and I wanted to see if they had a bit more personality here.

The combine soldiers seem to have a "decent" amount of humanity in them during half-life 2. They panic from grenades, during radio calls you can hear confusion, disbelief, and uncertainty. Dr. Breen gave them speeches to motivate and to chastise them, showing they can feel motivation and shame and if I remember right, they lose their damn minds when they're on fire, so pain is still a thing to. So, it's kinda hard to find where the human stops and the machine begins.

Let's see if I remember right. We got APF suppressors, wall hammers, regular soldiers, elites and grunts.

What else do we got? Assassins? Any cut enemies like combine guards or cremators?

Let me clarify, we're working with a mix of HL2 and Alyx units here, more specifically just the Charger/Wallhammer and Grunts on the Alyx side. Chargers because they have a niche not really filled by anything else in the HL2 era, and Grunts because they're cheap soldiers that are easier to make. 'Ordinals' are just what I've headcanoned to be how Squad Leaders are referred to, whether they're a standard HL2 soldier or an Elite.

Other unit types may or may not make an appearance with tech unlocks, I will say that I was going to have the Parrygod's Spikewall with the Pulse Shotgun and the cut Tau Cannon attachment down the unlocks for the Black Mesa stuff, though that probably would have just manifested as fluff/a buff for your actual Soldier Unit.

Just a minor curiosity, @Mantising but do we have an estimate for Nar Kaaga's population?
I'm deliberately trying to keep numbers vague to avoid the 'Army smaller than modern PLA somehow fights multi-front war across the whole goddamn galaxy' problems, but I would say around the 15-25k mark, with a lot of that being in Kos-Amul. It's more of a boonie than Tatooine for sure. There's also the assumption of tiny, one-intersection villages around the place that are too small to bother with mechanically.

Further evidence that the war is a SHAME kept afloat by Palpatine's machinations or George Lucas' incompetency.

Are [Privileged Cognitive Units] out of the question?

TBH I think we should just approach the Hutt in the power suit and offer to make him Administrator of this planet. We need someone to do it, after all.
