My first life had an anticlimactic end, I was an average person or so I liked to believe, and my day began the same as anyone else's. Rolling out of bed I quickly took a shower and brushed my teeth before getting dressed for work. This was my first mistake, because as soon as I began to leave the bathroom I slipped on a small puddle of water and ended up hitting my head on my porcelain sink. I did not get up again. Death was something I had spent much time contemplating although I never reached a satisfying conclusion, but as the light began to dim and my thoughts began to slow my final thoughts were that I hoped whatever afterlife I ended up in was peaceful.
My second mistake was believing that I would be fortunate enough to rest in peace. Soon after my body stopped functioning, I opened my eyes to a vast white void. "Oh my God, seriously? Could this be anymore cliche?" I said, only to jump when I heard a voice from behind me. "My apologies but I'm more partial to a vast empty void than the hellscapes and cluttered offices my fellows prefer." Stated an elegant feminine voice. I quickly whirled around to come face to face with what could only be a dragon, that is if dragons were 6 inches long and no more than three inches tall. "You are SO cute" I said. "Gosh, sorry, your form just caught me off guard, and I can agree that this void is preferable to either of those two environs. So, what's next?"
The dragon 'Shit I really need to ask her name' Began to explain my circumstances. "You have been chosen by me to be my representative in this era's Game of Gods. You are lucky that I am extremely powerful because you will be capable of beginning with many advantages other challengers could only dream of. Now, I have already selected the reality you will be inserted into but the method, as well as your form and advantages are still to be chosen. The objective of the challengers is to be entertaining or influential, and you must remember that the gods have different views than mortals so don't worry too much about your course of action. So long as you face challenges and work to improve yourself you won't have to worry overmuch. You are being sent to what you know as Earth-16, or the Earth of Young Justice and I have invested a portion of my available credits to augment the circumstances and time of your arrival. Now, think a little on what possibilities might be available to you and ask any questions you might have. Your "build" so to speak could be anything at all, just tell me what you wish for, and I will tell you if it is possible to achieve. The more sense your abilities make when compared to your origin the cheaper those abilities will be for me to purchase for you. "
"Ok, before I even get into that I have a number of questions to ask. What's your name? What are you the god of? Why was I chosen, especially by someone as supposedly powerful as you? Oh yeah, you said you are powerful what exactly does that mean for me?" I quickly blurted out, having been stewing on these questions since her explanation began. She began fluttering around quickly before flying in a circle around my head before landing on top of it and sighing. "My bad, it appears my excitement to begin got ahead of me. In order, My name is Xaldra the Watcher, I am a God of Curiosity and Knowledge as well as Reptiles, Divination, and Potential, You were chosen because out of the souls available to me only yours had the potential to resonate with my divinities, your curiosity and personality will serve you well in the future, my power is something more difficult to explain due to the nebulous nature of a Divine Beings strength but my power has been steadily increasing for a long time, a large number of challengers I select do well enough to see my power grow and in this day and age my influence is rivalled by few, only the twin gods Wun'kor the God of Power and Leon'kor God of Will can truly challenge me." She took a deep breath and then continued. "What this means for you is that you will be the only challenger and your reality, and you will only see the other during the decennial meetings. You also have the benefit of being sponsored by me which means you will have access to much more abilities and origins that other gods simply can't afford. Any more questions or would you like silence so that you may concentrate on your 'build'?" She asked. I took a second to process and consider before saying "I'd like some quiet so I can concentrate please." She hummed momentarily before saying "Very well." She then glided off my head and took a seat a few feet in front of me.
'Well,' I thought, 'this is certainly an interesting scenario but there is so much potential within reach.' I quickly took a seat myself before considering what origins might be available and which would be most advantageous. 'Firstly, there is no way I am being inserted in my own body I'll either have to create a new one or take over someone else's. Secondly while Earth-16 is a relatively low danger DC reality it is not to be underestimated because it is still a DC verse. I would definitely prefer being on the higher end of the power scale here, just so that I'll have a little more security. Creating a new body is out it would probably cost too much of Xandra's divine power and wouldn't receive near as much of an ability discount for my origin, that means I'll have to replace someone. Luckily, I already have an idea, if I replace Connor who is a clone of superman and replace him early, I won't have to deal with the guilt of kind of killing someone, then surrounded as he is by psychics, I could probably get a discount on making him psychic as well. I could invest some more and give him the full kryptonian power set, if Xandra has enough power leftover I could see about forging a connection with Rao the head of the Kryptonian Pantheon maybe even gaining real thermokinesis instead of heat vision and frost breath due to Rao's position as God of the Sun, Light, and Life maybe even push for increased solar absorption to increase the regeneration granted maybe to the point of negating aging, or gaining some powers related to life or light.' I took a moment to settle my thoughts before addressing Xandra. "I think I have a viable option, Xandra; I would like to replace Superboy right as the clone begins gestating for my origin. As far as abilities are concerned, I would like the full kryptonian powerset as well as psychic potential from being produced in the facility that created the G-Gnomes. Then, if possible, I'd like a connection to Rao and enhance my kryptonian abilities due to that connection such as increased physical abilities, flight speed, regeneration and power gained from solar absorption, thermokinesis instead of heat vision and frost breath, and possibly some abilities related to his Divinities of Light and Life. Is all of that possible?"
Xandra hummed consideringly before speaking. "Most of that is relatively low cost due to your consideration of origin and ability correlation. However, it's not all good news, connecting your new form to Rao is relatively easy and enhancing your physical abilities, flight speed, and benefits from absorbing sunlight are all easily accomplishable but adding new powers is something very expensive when you are already investing heavily into a new species and altering your new body. I could give you the thermokinesis but due to the potential of such an ability it would drain what remains of the power available to me for your origin or I could give you an ability related to Life or Light or both for a discount and still have some power remaining for minor modifications. So, what will it be?" I closed my eyes and gavve her words some thought before deciding. "I'd like to be able to produce a healing light that can cure both physical and mental trauma. I'd also like to have my talent for physical combat and my talent for science increased, but that will be all for my origin I believe."
"Very well, that leaves me with just enough energy to ensure Rao has a very favorable impression of you. Now, relax and close your eyes because when you open them again, you'll have begun a new life." The tiny dragon said. I did as instructed and began to take steadying breaths as I felt my mind begin to fade once more. Near immediately after I felt myself submersed in a semi-liquid jelly, I opened my eyes to glaring white lights before feeling a painful pressure in my head and falling asleep. My first thoughts in this new life were how much it was going to suck waiting for the sidekicks to show up.

AN: This is my first time ever writing a story so please feel free to comment and criticize I know I'm bound to have made a number of mistakes and suggestions are welcome. Please comment and tell me what you thought of the first chapter! Unnamed Protagonist is somewhat inept in that he is 100% a follower and tends to believe he can't accomplish things on his own, which is why he hasn't even considered breaking out on his own or otherwise planning for an early escape. Him overcoming his self-value issues will be a long journey but will bring him closer to other characters and tie him tighter to the team. Thanks for reading! Ranan out.
