[Battletech] A Life Worth Living For

[X] Flexible Factories

If i must choose between supporting Flexible Factories and A Digital Age then my intent is clear.

instructions still unclear, am now spending three quarters of the company's budget on fiber optic cabling and server racks.

[X] Flexible Factories

-
i can see our cities getting nuked by the Mariks, Steiners, or pirates, so here is to build up quicker and to nuke them right back

[X] Flexible Factories

Id like to see this as a foundation of sorts. A highly resilient and versatile foundation. From there, hopefully we can work towards interconnectedness eventually.

Executive uses the move [Talk]. It is not very effective. - (Digital Dreams)
Within one of the meeting rooms of the HQ building for the now isolated Lakshmibasti branch of the Feline Metalwork Incorporated company sat three executives.

One was a Turkish male named Omer Dogan and he currently had quite the headache.

"Listen to me, Veda, I know. The idea has merit but now isn't the time for feeling experimental. We can't just divert the majority of our resources that were going to be placed into automated industrialization into this project of yours and the faction you align with who support it. We need to focus our efforts on industrialization as that's where the demand is and where the money is going to be made big time plus, if we go into that direction, going into the military industrial complex business will be exceptionally profitable. We will not only help our fellows in government supply whatever military is going to be set up but we will also protect our assets by doing so. It's a win-win arrangement that actually sees some good returns within the decade unlike what you want to do. You do remember we are a company, right? Not a nonprofit research organization." Omer says before he proceeds to take a sip of his drink so that Veda can defend themselves while the other executive in the room nodded along with his points before turning their attention to Veda. If he continued on, Veda probably would've just interrupted him out of annoyance if Omer had to guess.

Veda Anand let out a huff of frustrated air before she replied. "You are much too short sighted, Omer. The idea of focusing our attention on developing better hardware from the ground up so that it stops limiting what we can do software wise isn't nearly as bad as you say it is. Sure, there may be a period of time before profits start to come in but once we get there everything will be worth the expenses that may gather up a small bit." Omer and the other executive, Justino, shake their heads in disagreement at the obvious optimist claim that only a 'relatively small' amount of expenses will stack up before they get a breakthrough but they let her continue on uninterrupted. "We'll be technologically ahead of those fools on terra and their misplaced determination to stick with traditional hardware design philosophy should we follow the proposed project and succeed. We'll be setting the groundwork for a golden age! It's not like the planet will be without industrial development as there are other forces outside our sphere that have the capability even if on a smaller scale. If we can gather the support to pass this initiative then once the research and prototyping stage ends our future is assured. We may as well be printing money when we get to that point I dare say!" Veda states confidently despite the disapproval of the other two.

"Yeah right, that's just your naive optimism speaking Veda. We both know those competitors aren't nearly as competent with their automated robotics usage no matter how much they claim those statements is just bias. Luckily we got more support than expected to get that Institute of robotics proposal passed through the government or else we'd just be wasting so much opportunity cost if the company followed the initiative you and your supporters are pushing, Veda. I say we are better off focusing on that Flexible Factory plan. Much less investment required in comparison and the adaptability of those theoretical factories will mean we can quickly shift them around to suit the markets and even the government's needs should the demand rise. Hopefully we can limit their attempts at regulation and extra power over the economy though as I fear some of those politicians could be tempted to try to do so with the vested power the majority of the people are giving the new government. Lots of potential for profit either way though. It's the clear path forward is to support the Flexible Factory Plan. Plus some of the scientists in R&D theorize that it'll mean it's easier to maintain production lines for some of the more sophisticated products we could produce. If our factories are specialized and later down the road for some reason they are lost we can just alter the production line of another factory should we follow my group's plan while if we didn't we could risk losing access to the product completely. Not like the main company branches on terra will send us back up parts now, the cowards. But I hope it won't ever get to that point where such an aspect is required. Either way it's honestly just more proof of the plan's viability." Justino says simply. Omer and Veda both shake their heads in disapproval for differing reasons.

"My friend, Justino, while that is a decent plan that is uninspired! We are much better off going with the Interconnected Automatic Factories Plan as such seamless management of the entire industrial base under its control means we can radically increase our profits by controlling the entire production chain. We could decrease production when demand is low or increase it when the alternative is true! If the system works, we can expand it beyond industry to build a more reliable automated supply chain too. Plus the decreased requirement for human resources to be part of the process would see a good decrease in expenses due to the decrease numbers of hired employees needed. Maximize profits while keeping costs low. It is basic business 101 my friends." Omer states clearly though he would be a liar if he didn't say or rather think he was disappointed at the rather lukewarm reception the plan had with the companies executives. Out of all the plans this one was perhaps the least popular. He didn't bother paying his companions' disapproval much attention though as there are other opportunities to increase the plan's support. His and his fellow supporters of the Interconnected Automatic Factories Plan efforts are better spent trying to convince the undecided executives to get a comeback for the plan.

After some more times pass, with their arguments said and none of the 'friends' changing their minds they would each go their separate ways to do their own efforts to increase the chances of their preferred plans winning. The main branches of the company may have abandoned them but they won't abandon their ambitions for a profitable and prosperous future even if they must do it themselves.

First attempt at an Omake so apologies for any quality issues. Mostly focuses on one of the probably many backroom debates going on during this struggle to decide the companies focus moving forward. There are some assumptions mixed in so i don't get expect it to be "canon" if that means anything for an omake but even still good writing practice if anything.

[X] A Digital Age

Look call me an optimist, but I waited a bit before actually voting because I wanted to see the arguments. I'm down for us being the weirdos of the setting and being utterly unique in the Sphere. Plus I'm always a sucker for optimistic long shots

What happened with the APC vote?
Ah, knew I forgot something. In my defense, I had lost half a liter of blood yesterday. (Into a bag. I donated. :V)

Edit: Okay, @Piell; does, or does not, the Pegaso use Class D Armor (which is the Primitive Armor Vote)?

Because if it does, then that will overrule the Medium Laser/LRM votes.
[] Digital Dreams - (Reduce the time needed for the Breakthrough.)
[] Factory Blues - (Apply 1.5 Voting weight to the option Interconnected Automatic Factories.)
[] Drone Cha-Cha - (Improve the first drone created by this option.)

As for a title, would "Executive use the move [Talk]. It is not very effective..." Work or is it too long?

Ah, my bad, I completely misread your response to my question about armor as us currently having class D rather than the primitive vote. A class C armor version of the Pegaso would have Bar 5 armor arranged as 12 front/12 turret/left side 9/right side 9/rear 8 and otherwise be exactly the same, if you just want to make that minor change rather than swapping out the results of the tech vote.

[Non-Canon] - First, Second, Third time is the Charm. - (NEEEEEEEEERDS!!!)
Omake

First, Second,Third time is the Charm.

Focusing upon the integers, juliana Patvaya squinted in a disgusted manner as code scrolled down her monitor, ignoring her colleague Toby as he yammered away, mouth flapping away uselessly as his hands blurred over the keyboards.

Her glasses kept slipping on her nose distractingly, her long red hair somewhat in disarray, her clothing rumpled from yet another all nighter, the main projects still under an extreme amount of pressure, not just internally within the Company, but also the Politicians and Media sticking their oars in regularly.

"Mstfgl...." She mumbled as she chewed on her dry and tough sandwich.

'Gifted Geniuses, may have their uses, but if only they would just.... Shut the hell up sometimes' She thought as her eye twitched with stress, code still scrolling along as time passed and her sandwich felt tougher with each chew.

Toby continued to hum irritatingly, driving Juliana's nerves to a honed focus.

Not wanting to be sent to Prison for a wholly reasonable murder, made her depth of feeling, very much a burden on her workload.

'Toby is not malicious' She reminded herself, taking deep breathes to stay calm and refocus on healthier less homicidal impulses.

With a tap, she froze the screen in shock and grinned very widely, her face relaxing even as her smile grew, after hours of tedious searching, finally progress was able to be pursued once again.

Finally after locating the problem integer, it was like she could breath easy, a weight taken off her mind and her body.

"Got ya yer bastard!" She barked loudly, her unfinished sandwich spurting out of her mouth, flying forth with much force, soon to redecorate her colleagues computer terminal.

Immersed in her task and jubilant in her long sought success, she ignored Toby's grimace and his subsequent swift reaction, as he began administering antiseptic wipes, to everything he could reach.

Jacob Tanaka their other colleague meanwhile, was poking their head into the room, from the nearby kitchenette, his long face curious and blue eyes glancing over the scene.

Juliana had now begun to very happily dance and bounce around in her seat, soon gyrating her wide hips, to a very tone deaf version, of some ancient Earth Song.

Jacob smirked and laughed, looking rather amused before he walked closer, eager to check out her Monitor.... Not her tight top.

"Heh! Screw you Integer!" She sang as she quickly edited the problem coding that had finally been found, with multiple saves of her progress, then copied over to several back ups, on external data cores just in case.

Jacob shook his head, his long hair catching the light, his neon blue hair catching the eye, a long slow sigh soon escaping him.

"Ternary computing eh, who knew it would be so tiresome to implement...." He said with a laugh as he sat at his own terminal, examining the code after rebooting and running the program with the amendments that Juliana had already added.

Positive, Neutral and Negative was just one of the measures being implemented and used to improve Coding for Software, with yet another way to lay a bright path and blaze a trail for their newborn Polity.

"The march of Technology and Progress is an ever moving thing, time for us to grab it by the balls Team!" He announced with a grin, before executing the commands that crashed everything a day ago.

With a chirp and an LED flaring in the darkened room, the sound of success was rudely interrupted by one of the Team breaking wind.

*sigh*

"Really.... Not the triumphant sound of a brass band there guys...." He said as he fell apart in hysterical laughter.

Meanwhile Toby, the guy currently losing himself in cleaning everything, kept finding his eyes drifting to his female colleague, he just knew it had been her to pass gas, proving such would be not at all worth pursuing in any case.

Jacob began passing out hot drinks, those being the reason for multiple high dosages of Caffeine today, as the whole team, had been losing lots of sleep for weeks as a result.

'Luckily this Team had avoided any scandals.... Unlike a few others.' Thought Jacob with a smirk, while remembering all of the office gossip about the drug fueled orgy and hallucinogenic induced nudist rampage, that had rapidly spread out from the business park, over to a nearby beach and somehow attracting a whole slew of tour bus to get redirected to the Beach as well.

He would have been more upset about not being invited, if it had not been for the event involving a sports team, a travelling circus and a church fete coming to pass as a result of craziness seeming to propogate itself all in the locality, the government grants to promote business being a powerful draw to all sorts of people.

'Really glad to have avoided that part at least' He thought while suffering a full body shudder at the headlines in the media of late.

'Rubber Gloves used in unwholesome ways with Peanut Butter, was most definitely not newsworthy, but nothing stopped the Broadcasters from spouting drivel' Lamented Jacob while mentally replaying the same awful somg that Tony had been muttering and humming along with.

Jacob sneakily smuggled in some treats from the Kitchenette, while slowly chowing down on a choc chip cookie and savouring the taste.

Juliana meanwhile was racing through the checks for stability, no worrying exclamations or panicked yells for help today at least.

Interns were rather absent lately after most of them were pulled back to other departments.

'Execs trying to cover their asses at everyone elses expense, no surprise.' Jacob mused to himself.

Toby meanwhile was back to work at his keyboard, cleansing finally over and done with, inputting lots of data into new programming, formats converted to use the old Binary standards as a form of Backwards compatibility, virtual machines running Binary on Ternary Hardware.

Anything new however would avoid all of the old compatibilty clashes, bloatware and be far more efficient as a result.

Time to rush end game stats with the use of Omake boosts before prologue ends /j
As the QM, I will now use the best tool in my arsenal to showcase what to do when faced with such calls for gaming the system: No.

:V

And just as a FYI, the first post was basically a what-if you never guided these people. The "prologue" is basically the whole Quest here. :V
First, Second,Third time is the Charm.
Non-Canon. Too wacky and too advanced planetary situation.

[] Always Three - (Reduce the time for the second Breakthrough by three years.)
[] Peanutbutter Sandwich - (Start a local nudist scene.)
[] NEEEEEEEEERDS!!! - (Marginally improve local intelligence.)

Woo is me and the nascent effort for an Omake revolution. Oh well.

Though i have a question, what is your thoughts on the initial focuses we chosen for the first step? If you were a player instead of the QM would you have agreed with what was selected or would you have picked a different combo?

Share your thoughts and slowly we shall build a model that'll predict the content of updates before they are even written! A flawless plan for total victory i dare say. :V

I am still silently seething that you didn't pick Genetic Cybernetic Cosmetic or the 5-Year Plan: Copyright Infringement choices, as their disasters would've allowed me to write catbois, foxbois, and etc. into your world. :V

And before you ask, yes, they are canon, alongside mermaids and centaurs. (*******mostly as cyborgs in the Magistracy of Canopus, but gene-versions exist too. Or exist-ed.)

Proof:
A Time of War: Companion, p. 53, "Mutation Trait Example Table", sixth entry, "functional tail and mobile ears".

A Time of War: Companion, p. 188, followed on p. 189 by a table of exotic prosthesis and implants.

"The Periphery", p. 40

Handbook: Major Periphery States
(Has two illustrations, here's the only one I have the link for: Slightly NSFW Picture)

Forgive us for the knowledge of Battletech's future made us prioritize long term survival over prosperity. :( Would it be possible to offer a deal like Omakes in exchange for a lesser scale appearance of those specimens some way? We may not get the medical benefits or the tech but maybe a small community that successfully pass on the edited genes to their descendants even if they won't enter the majority in terms of numbers? A possible explanation is a small group of escaped test subjects making it to the colony (by pure chance maybe) with a damaged FTL capable ship. Just an idea though to remember what was lost.

Also that image link makes me nervous about the rules but i am not sure if it would count as a rule break.

Edit 1: Man that first sentence sounds aggressive after rereading it. Apologies if it comes across as so. Hopefully the edit fixes that small potential issue...

Edit 2: nvm on the rule statement. I didn't know for sure what the policy was on slightly NSFW content was. Did a quick check out of curiosity and it should be fine
