Metal Bat and his little sister are attacked by strange monsters that send them to a world where humanity has already perished. They may never get back to their original home and the first people they meet might not let them.

AN: Well, let's see how long I stick with this story that's been kicking around in my brain for far too long. There will most likely be multicross elements later on that I will probably put in a poll for various settings to travel to. Hope y'all enjoy.

Chapter 1

It was only the proximity of his beloved little sister that kept Bad from cussing his lungs out.

"Bad-nii..." whispered Zenko worriedly behind his back. Her face was still splotchy from crying and her pretty dress had numerous cuts on it.

It fucking infuriated him, but he couldn't lose his cool.

"It's gonna be okay, Zenko. Big brother's got this." he reassured in an equally quiet tone, already pumping himself up.

Wherever the two had ended up, it was definitely not a place he wanted Zenko in a second longer. The two were crouched behind a group of barrels in a large munitions factory of some kind, judging by all the bullet casings he could see from their vantage point.

By itself, this wasn't a problem.

The horde of murderbots routinely roaming around the active machinery was, however.

A pile of human bodies had been carelessly tossed to several out-of-the-way corners of the factory. Heavily cyberized limbs and torsos that reminded him of the newbie S-Ranker, Demon Cyborg ('Fucking awesome name to give the newbie whereas I get saddled with fucking Metal Bat.'), had been roughly hewn apart and liberally filled with bullet holes of varying sizes.

A large part of the factory's grey floor had taken on a red hue and Bad didn't need to be Child Emperor to think it was due to a paint spill. He was already injured from the fucking monsters that had kidnapped Zenko and transported them to this place and he didn't have his signature weapon anymore.

But Zenko was okay and that was all that mattered.

Their quiet arrival to this factory in a small unused alcove was another stroke of luck. Bad was confident he could take on all the heavily armed robots in the place and emerge from it without a scratch. But while Zenko was amazing and perfect in every goddamn way possible...

...Well, she wasn't as physically tough as him.

She didn't need to be, though.

That's what big brothers were for.

'I need to take 'em out fast enough and make 'em focus on me. I'd need to leave Zenko alone though...Could we make it to the exit before they start firing at us?'

A large pair of doors to this windowless building seemed like their best bet for an exit, but Bad didn't have a lot of experience with the reaction times of regular robots. Metal Knight's creations could be pretty fucking quick on the draw but who knows what these things were capable of. More importantly, was he willing to take the risk of those bullets not going through him and hitting Zenko?

The answer was simple, even if it terrified pissed him off.

"Zenko...I need you to...wait and hide yourself here." rasped Bad in an undertone. "Big bro has gotta clear us a path outta here."

Zenko's small hands tightening their grip on the back of his shirt was the only answer he received for a few moments before she finally spoke in a soft voice, "O...kay. Come back safely, Bad-nii."

It was a familiar request, one that she had made of him ever since he had chosen to become a Hero. One of several promises he had made to her that he swore he wouldn't break.

"I promise." he assured, looking back at her and winking with a confident grin.

The small giggle he got back was music to his ears, even if the thought of him showing violence to her eyes meant breaking one of those promises, it would be worth it so long as she was safe. As Bad slowly slinked out of their hiding spot and carefully dashed away before making his assault, his anger started to build.

Anger at the monsters that had transported Zenko and he here.

Anger at these robots that scared his precious little sister.

...and anger at himself for having to break another promise.

The first two robots were scrapped through the judicious application of his fists through their heads, before he sliced his arms downwards viciously and cut them in half. The next eight robots were summarily destroyed as he threw the remains of his first two kills at the rest before the rest of the metalheads finally locked onto his position. Bad gripped a long lever jutting out of one of the assembly line units and ripped it out of it's metal casing, grimacing at its shitty quality.

But it'd work just fine.

"OI!" he roared, getting them all to focus on him in the slight chance they hadn't already. "You tin cans ready for your aaahhss-butt whooping?!"

'Close call. Can't have my cute sis picking up curse words.'

Malevolent red flashes of light appeared in the robot's eye sockets, before they all charged towards him.

"COME ON! I'LL TAKE YOU ALL APART!"

BAM!

Bad launched himself towards the oncoming horde, cratering the ground he was standing on from the force that he had kicked off with. Flesh met and conquered the metal that was in it's way as he wildly thrashed his makeshift bat into the robots. Bullets pinged off his skin and Bad felt himself getting more and more angry as his [Fighting Spirit] built itself up.

And yet he couldn't allow it to build up too much without succumbing to exhaustion afterwards. He was in an unfamiliar location and he needed to be able to at least walk and swing his fists if he was going to get Zenko to safety.

Thus he ducked back behind cover where he normally would have kept on charging forwards, darting from his various hiding spots and moving further away from Zenko's. All the while, he kept up a steady stream of filtered curses and taunts to the robots doggedly chasing him.

"IS THAT ALL YOU TIN-CANS GOT?!"

Bad ducked underneath a particularly hulking robot as it took a swipe at him with a whirring buzzsaw stuck to the end of its arm. His hand shot out and gripped the leg of the robot hard enough to dent it as he spun around once in place before tossing it at a group of its' fellows.

BOOOM!

Luckily these robots weren't so tough, much like his current weapon.

"Tch. Piece of cra-garbage." Bad eyed the bent and shorn piece of metal in his hands before throwing it away in a disgusted huff.

Bad scanned the room, taking note of any robots that he might have missed while prowling slowly through the room. Apart from the constant noise of the background machinery, there didn't appear to be any more threats to Zenko's safety and he let himself relax.

Just a little.

"Hooo..." Bad exhaled slowly, feeling the familiar wave of exhaustion hit him as he came down from his battle high, before it passed.

'Gotta find a place to hide and properly rest up. Robots were weak as shit but if we run into those monsters from earlier, there might be trouble.' though Bad nervously, but making sure to not let it appear on his face.

"Zenko! It's all clear! It's safe to come out, but watch your step!"

His little sister's cute face poked out from her hiding spot and gave him a tremulous smile when her eyes met his. Quickly darting over to him, Zenko started to immediately fuss over him, checking for any wounds.

"You're okay? You're not hurt are you?" she asked anxiously.

"Hey, hey, I'm fine! Your big brother is way too awesome to get hurt by the likes of these chumps." reassured Bad before doing a flex that Darkshine was fond of and getting a giggle from Zenko at the silly display.

Smiling at the fact that Zenko was no longer looking quite so scared, Bad took her little hand in his own and started to lead them out towards the door. He casually kicked up a sturdy piece of rebar and caught it in his free hand. Zenko quietened at the display and simply tightened her grip. The metal in his hands distorted as he crushed it to vent his anger at scaring Zenko once more.

'Almost as worthless as the old man.' thought Bad bitterly. The brief recall of their cowardly progenitor doing nothing to raise his mood.

It was almost a disappointment that no more robots made an appearance for Bad to vent his frustrations on. At the same time, he was grateful that they weren't there to put Zenko at risk. It did mean that Bad was more or less left with his own dark thoughts as the two siblings searched for an exit to this creepy ass factory.

"What is this place, Bad-nii? Metal Knight's abandoned factory?" murmured Zenko softly. Her gaze was locked on a discarded robot head. It was old, evident by the rust covering it, but the overall design and facial features were basically identical to the robots he was destroying earlier.

'Though lookin' at it closely, it does kind of...'

"Huh. Maybe. I thought they were too weak, but they do kinda look like the robots Metal Knight makes." Bad grinned proudly at his sister. "Good catch, sis."

Zenko smiled bashfully and snuggled into his side, soothing Bad more than she could know. They walked in a comfortable silence, taking solace in each other's presence as they made their way through the decrepit factory. The sounds of distant explosions and gunfire could be heard, though none seemed to approach their location. More importantly, Bad could feel the faintest traces of a breeze on his skin in the corridor they had just turned into.

Meaning that they were approaching an exit to this fucking tetanus-ridden place.

"Almost home free, Zenko." said Bad, speeding up a little with his now more cheerful sister in tow.

Still holding hands with each other, the two siblings broke into an easy jog when they rounded a corner that had a damaged door at the end of it. A clear view of the outside world, smoggy as it was, was a welcome balm to the dreary interior of the factory. The sound of explosions were louder however and jolted Bad back to caution as he tugged on Zenko's little hand to get her to stop.

"Bad-nii?" She asked, only to quiet down when Bad put a finger to his lips in a shushing motion. Gently pulling her behind him, Bad took the lead while hugging the wall, trying to discern if there was anything that could harm Zenko waiting outside for them. Gripping his makeshift weapon tightly, Bad peeked out of the ruined doorframe to get his first proper look of the outside world.

It was still sunny outside, which confused him a bit as he remembered the monsters that transported him and Zenko to this factory had done so in the evening. Putting the incongruity to the side for a moment, Bad saw that a catwalk extended beyond the doorframe, though much like the former, it too had been heavily damaged and torn in half by something. The drop to the ground floor below was just a few metres and something that even Zenko could easily make.

It was a large room that lay beyond the doorframe, albeit one where one of the walls and part of the ceiling had collapsed to reveal the outside world. Bad squinted and saw that the rest of the massive factory complex beyond was currently the site of multiple skirmishes between robots of varying sizes and white haired people in high-tech looking flight units.

'Support staff for Metal Knight stopping their boss' toys from going haywire?' pondered Bad. In any case, the reason for the battle didn't matter that much to Bad. The important thing was that none of the various skirmishes were approaching their location.

Turning back to Zenko with a confident smile, he asked: "You ready to get out of here, sis?"

Zenko nodded with a big and super cute smile. "Yeah!"

Chuckling, Bad knelt down to the ground and extended his hands behind him for Zenko to clamber on. She didn't need any further invitation for a piggyback ride and quickly scurried onto his back, locking her arms around his neck.

"Hold on tight, Zenko."

"Okay!"

Another quick peek outside to make sure the coast was clear and Bad leapt out of the corridor to lightly land on the ground floor with a soft thump. He was already planning the safest route to get Zenko out of here through the complex when his sister gasped.

"Bad-nii! Behind us!"

Bad bit off a swear and whirled around prepared to bash the robot fucker who thought-

"...Huh?"

YoRHa No.11 Type B was dying.

It was something she had expected when she first thought about trying to defect. Being sent on yet another suicide mission meant that she felt like she was pretty inured to the whole concept of dying.

11B had died before – It was rare to find a combat YoRHa unit that hadn't.

'But then again...that wasn't really death...was it?'

Detonating one's Black Box simply meant that she would wake up to a previous instance of herself in the Bunker completely fine. But by severing her communication and having her Black Box damaged so severely meant that there was no safety net this time.

[Primary Core offline – Specialist needed for full repair]

This was the end.

[Secondary Core heavily damaged – Repair processes under- ERROR!]

'No...No! It can't end like this!' raged 11B.

Her attempts at repairing her useless body were stymied by this fucking virus locking her maintenance protocols in an infinite loop. Power was being diverted from every sub-system that she could spare to try and fix the problem and nothing. Was. WORKING!

She would've started crying had she still had access to those systems. As it were, the only things she was left with was a black and white visual feed from her sole remaining optical unit. This bleak, Machine-damned hell would be the last thing she would ever see. It was an almost calculated cruelty that 11B wasn't infected by the Logic Virus as it meant that she was completely cognizant of her agonizingly slow demise.

There was even a countdown timer showing exactly when her inevitable end was and doing fuck all besides driving her despair and fear to new levels.

'Heh...' It really wasn't funny, but the virus alert at least shifted her thoughts away from existential dread along with the faintest hope that her repair programs might just pull off a miracle.

'If I can at least get my legs working, there's a resistance camp not too far away from here. With how many of us got shot down, it wouldn't be unreasonable for there to be a flight unit up for grabs.'

[Time until shutdown: 31:03]

'...Twenty six minutes to get to the outpost. Easy. Get the legs repaired, find a flight unit and hope there's someone still left at the outpost who can stabilize me. And not report me to YoRHa.' 11B mentally snorted as she was currently incapable of the physical action itself. 'Couldn't...be simpler...'

'I wish...I could've at least seen 16D...One last-'

An oddly misshapen figure suddenly appeared in 11B's visual field and it took a moment for her to process the fact that she was looking at two individuals. They were clearly androids, but not of the YoRHa variety, who were dressed in rather strange outfits. The smaller model clinging onto the larger one's back was unlike any 11B had seen before and only resembled Scanner models due to their similar diminutive statures.

The smaller model was looking straight at 11B and her – and 11B was reasonably confident that this was a female model – eyes widened. The larger model whirled around ready to combat an unseen threat only to freeze when his eyes locked with her solitary one.

Some dirt had to have drifted into 11B's remaining ocular unit as suddenly the odd pair of androids were right there in front of her. Their lips moved inaudibly and 11B belatedly realized that they were trying to talk to her.

'Can't they tell I'm not exactly in the best shape for that kind of thing? Just grab a cable and connect to one of my ports like a normal fucking Android.'

Proving that this was apparently an Android Model [D]ipshit, the guy started to speak slower without a single iota of realization that she couldn't fucking hear him. The smaller unit at least proved itself in having a functioning cogitator as she started to check over 11B's form to no doubt find what she could repair. Still, the more time they wasted, the more likely they'd be found by Machines looking to get a 'Three-for-One Android Special'. Considering that her repair programs weren't showing any signs of getting any better, 11B decided to speed things along and reactivate her audio and speech sub-systems.

"S-Shutt-ing d-down. U-Urgent r-repair n-needed. O-Out-p-post l-located..." 11B rattled off stuttered directions ('Voice modulator is fucked too apparently...') to the outpost that could hopefully repair her, but cut herself off when the larger android spoke.

"[Huh? What kinda language izzat? Zenko, you ever heard anythin' like this?]"

"[I've never heard of a language that sounds like that, Bad-nii.]"

Speaking in a truly ancient language that all androids had installed on their OS by default, 11B was very confused at the fact that they didn't seem to understand Chaos Language.

'Also: Are those their names? Zenko for the smaller and Bad for the bigger? Fuck it, who cares. As long as they can get me to an outpost, I'll deal with whatever afterwards.'

It took a moment for 11B to switch to Japanese before repeating her current status and location for the outpost. "S-Shutti-ng d-down all n-non cr-itical systems. S-Save p-p-power. P-Pl-lease h-hu-rry."

11B didn't like the fact that she was forced to beg some random Resistance androids for help, but at this point she would take whatever she could get. Thankfully, the larger android, Bad, didn't say anything more and simply nodded with a look of determination on his face. Any thoughts on how the two androids would transport 11B to her hopeful salvation abruptly fell to the wayside when Bad gathered 11B in his arms.

'W...hat...?' A strange shudder swept through 11B as if something deep within her had finally found...something.

Something warm.

Something that almost seemed to make her want to cry.

'Who...Who are you...?'

Metal Bat doesn't mess around by effortlessly picking more then 300 pounds of that booty.

Considering he routinely craters pavement in OPM with his bat... He's strong. Really strong. If it's a strain at all, it certainly isn't much of one.

Also, on the story itself: I like it. Looking forward to seeing what comes next!

I haven't seen many stories involving Metal Bat as the main character yet. It's gonna be interesting to see how he and by extension the world of One Punch Man meshes with the NieR Universe.

Though I will admit, it's going to be funny seeing how the androids react to Metal Bat simply powering up mid-fight.

Awesome intro.
Looking forward to more.
Specially the reaction from our favorite robowaifus in having living humans once more.

Ahhhh it ended just as it got good! Pretty good start altogether though. I don't know much about Nier beyond the basics but it certainly seems like this has got potential.
