This thread is for discussion on the AU Code Geass story I am developing with things such as worldbuilding, character development, etc.
Location
Milwaukee, Wisconsin
Pronouns
He/Him
So this is where it all begins. The story is still being developed, as I have a lot of ideas for this and I just hope that I can figure out a way to make it all work. Hopefully I will be able to post the stories about this soon. However, I am willing to discuss what I have so far and accept any ideas that I think may be able to make this story more interesting. The main things I will be discussing here is worldbuilding, character development, other Code Geass related ideas, etc. So...shall we begin?

Well, as part of the AU, Washington's Rebellion succeeds, creating the United States, and Napoleon's invasion of Britain fails.

This results in the United States forming to challenge Britannia, and Britannia remaining in the British isles, cementing it as a truly Britannian Empire as it is located on the Isles of Britannia.

Well, as I've stated, the main AU or Divergence elements are that the United States wins "Washington's Rebellion" and Napoleon's invasion of Great Britain fails.

So America emerges as a superpower to challenge Britannia, and Britannia's homeland is still located on the British Isles.

How is Britannia going to be a superpower anywhere near as powerful as they are in canon without unlimited access to the American mainland's resources?

Like what happened with our real world British Empire.

EDIT: This idea was also presented which brought up the many, MANY important issues caused by both WW1 and WW2 on the old world order.

Write a Diesel Punk Story / So You Want To - TV Tropes

So you've decided to write a story. You love to read Diesel Punk, so you've decided to write Diesel Punk. First, be sure to check out Write a Story for basic advice that holds across all genres. Then, get back here for a rundown of the genre- …
Conversely, you could diverge earlier where it's World War I that didn't happen and the romanticism of The Edwardian Era wasn't killed off in the horrors of trench warfare. While on the surface this sort of setting seems very un-Punky, all the old, creaking and unstable Imperial regimes are still holding on, continuously one step away from imploding in revolution or dissolution as their populations struggle between the affluence of the growing global economy and the repression of traditionalist monarchies. Intrigue, espionage and social underdogs have lots of room to play in this setting, as do globe-hopping adventurer types since the Great War and The Great Depression didn't scuttle all those grand airship schemes people dreamed about. Care must be taken to distinguish from Steampunk, as while the technology has left steam behind, the old attitudes linger on, creating thematic overlap.

The thing with that is that the US can easily blockade Britannia from overseas territories if they start picking at each other.

Not to mention that Britannia trying to occupy Japan is definitely going to fray nerves due to Japan being way closer to Alaska than South East Asia, potentially in strike range once modern aircraft are in play.

Well Britannia still maintains a large colonial Empire like it does historically (maybe a bit larger, haven't decided yet on how much they control outside of historical territories.

There are other elements here I can use aside from that, basically a bunch of different variations if I decide to keep Britannia as what it is in the series, basically North and South America and some overseas possessions. BTW, considering that Britannia is basically the Americas, and since it's located there it has American cultures. does that in a way make Britannia a version of an American Empire (albeit a loosly considered one)?

You forgot another thing..... Canada and the Carribean are still Britannian Empire territory. This is a big advantage no rival power has in the America continents, a major foothold to threathen the US directly.

I know, the idea was that Britannia still controlled Canada and other footholds in the Americas, so America has to contend with Britannia in the north as the largest threat.

Basically, the US faces containment like they did with the Soviet Union? Maybe this made the US more radical as well?

Perhaps, yeah. I'm working on two kinds of maps. One revolving around what the Code Geass world would look like in 2017 a.t.b with Britannia located in the British Isles, and one where it's more like what it is in the series but still with a few changes here and there. Working on the latter now.

I did actually forget. I assumed if the US is going to be an anti-Britannia, it would control the entire North American continent just as Britannia did in canon and its power-projection capabilities would prevent Britannia from having a foothold in the Caribbean, leaving only the India/SEA/Australia region which has no water access to the homeland without passing through the Atlantic unless there's a Suez Canal under Britannian control, which in turn can be choked by an EU naval blockade in the Mediterranean or a US blockade at Gibraltar.

Then I guess you also forgot about this which influences things. Maybe.......

And the US being so far away by sea that invading them was logistically infeasible at the time.

Okay. Here's one of the two maps for the Code Geass universe I've come up with. This is the latter one, which is based more closely on the Code Geass world in the series, though with a few added changes of my own.
