Chapter 1: The Beginning
Location
United States
Author's Note: This is based in a fantasy world I am currently creating, while I have a large insight to the world and its history, I am as mortal as everyone else. The only bonuses I have is knowledge and some muscle built up from a shit ton of physical labor, but a well placed blade can and will end me.

So wish me luck, on my great adventure.

You know how most people wake up one day and enjoy modern amenities, yeah I do too. But I've forgotten about it, I think the last time I ever slept in a modern bed was...By the Divines I can't even remember.

Oh what's that? You want me to get on with the story already? Alright fine, then let me begin...

It began like any other day...The sun was shining, clouds were fluffy, and it was a beautiful day to enjoy a hike. You see there's where I made my first mistake, I should've just stayed inside and read stories on Sufficient Velocity or Spacebattles. But no, I needed to be a normal person for once.

When I was on the trail, I saw something odd out of the corner of my eye. Normally I would've passed it by, but something drew me towards it like a moth to a flame. If my memory isn't fucked up, it looked like a nebula was forming right in front of me. I took a few steps closer, then instantly regretted it as the forest around me changed shape. I knew two things had happened there, and I was absolutely scared for my life.

One, I was alone with the clothes on my back, a few snacks, a cellphone, my pocket knife, and my backpack stuffed with other items. Then there was Two, where I couldn't recognize the forest around me.

In short, I was fucked seven ways from Sunday if I couldn't find civilization.

Well it wasn't that bad, but death by starvation is not how I want to die. I may be built like a bear, but I'm average at strength and I know the basics of survival.

I'm a lover not a fighter for fuck's sake!

But that wouldn't help my current situation, so I did what any sane person would do. I walked in a straight line and hoped to hell I found civilization by the afternoon, or evening at latest.

Little did I know that I'd meet a new friend along the way.

...

After a few hours of walking, the forest was parted by a clear river. It was shining, and I could see fish swimming against the current. It was a beautiful sight, almost like something out of Skyrim or Breath Of The Wild. A blue line breaking apart the sea of green, a shining beacon to all who could see it.

Since I had pretty much drained my flask of any and all water, this was a godsend. Pulling the pack off of my back, I dug through it till I found my flask in the front pouch. Once I had it in my hands, I went to work getting water. While I couldn't drink it now, it'd work great once I boil it for a few minutes.

While I was filling up my flask, I heard a weird gurgling now coming from a few feet to my right. I thought it was the river at first, but then I realized that it was getting louder.

Once I finished filling my flask, I screwed the cap back on then inspected the source of the sound. It was...Odd seeing it, but the sound came from a weird bubbling substance colored dark blue. To my surprise it formed a pseudo head, and soon I was jumping back and screaming.

I'd say I was screaming like a man, but it was a few dozen octaves higher than I'd like to admit.

Looking at the...Slime, I guess? Yeah, let's just call it a Slime. Anyways, the Slime had formed the upper part of a body. The head had two tendrils formed with another on the top, the ends were colored light blue while the rest was a darker shade. It looked curious, judging by how they looked at me.

I decided that I'd say something, if it can understand me it can help me right?

"Um...Hi?" Awkward, but it'd probably work for what I needed.

"Hi...Hi!" It almost looked like it was smiling at me, a bit childlike but cute in a way. "Friend?" I chuckled a bit, for Christ's sake it was too cute. "Is Human...Friend?" It asked, and I answered.

"I'm a friend," I looked around a bit, hoping to catch sign of any roads. While I was looking, I felt a cold gel touch my arm. Looking down, I saw the slime hanging onto my arm. "Need something little guy?" I asked, and he just kept hanging onto my arm. I shrugged, then just let him hang on while I figured out the situation.

Looks like I've made a new friend in this world, now where to?

Thank you for reading the first chapter of At The Tip Of The Sword, and I hope you enjoyed it.

Too early to say anything, except you should name the slime something harmless, so it inevitably causes enemies to let their guards down before being ganked by the cute little thing.

Chapter 2: New Friend, New World
Well this was certainly getting better, as my new friend was helping me find my way to civilization. He was a bit odd, but well meaning when he showed me certain things. He managed to steer me towards some fresh berries, which were delicious. It was like chewing on a rainbow made of sunshine, or sugar. Either way it was delicious, and it added my meager supplies.

I almost forgot, I should've given my name to my new friend. If I'm here for a long time, then it'd be best to have a friend I can depend on in the worst of times.

"Friend...Name?" He asked while hanging on my arm, and I smiled. It was like having a kid tag a long with me, and in general he looked like an adorable squishy.

"I'm Marcus, what's your name?" My slime-y friend looked at me with confusion, before answering.

"Don't have name, I want name." That wasn't gonna do, he's gonna need a name other than 'Slime'. Maybe Blue? No that's a word for describing color, maybe...Damn it, just had it. No wait, now I know!

"Well how about Indigo?" I mention, and I swear that he beamed at his new name. Like literally shine at the sound of it, and it just made him cuter. Another thing was that the ends of the tendrils on his head moved in a funny way whenever he was happy, almost like he was a dancing Jell-O mold.

"Indigo..." The newly christened Slime sounded out his new name, before excitedly jumping up and shouting it again. "Name is Indigo!" It was nice seeing him happy, and I won't have to call him 'Slime' or 'you there' every time I want to talk to him. That, and he looks happier than a kid on Christmas morning.

After that we kind of just kept walking, only times we ever stopped was to refill my flask or grab some more fruit.

We were walking along the riverside for a few hours, and then we saw a town gate in the distance. It was large and sturdy looking, having presumably oaken doors and armed guards watching it. So I decided to do the sensible thing, and walk up to it with my hands up and Indigo behind me.

Soon enough, I heard a voice.

"Halt! Who goes there?" A gruff voice asked, and I responded as quickly as possible.

"I'm Marcus, there's only my friend Indigo and myself." I was nervous as hell, because I was standing on a dirt road with only trees to my left and a river at my right.

I noticed the gates opening, and I was surprised to see a short man done up like a bandit was opening them. "Well are ye daft lad? Get on in here before I change my mind!" He waved his axe a few times, and sure enough I was hauling ass inside with Indigo following close behind me.

With the gate closing behind me, I was looking at the man who had let me in. He was wearing clothes that covered every inch of skin, and the only thing I could see peeking out from under was his eyes.

"Um, thanks..." I dropped off, hoping for him to introduce himself.

"The name is Francis of Clan Iron-Hand, I run the town watch." He eyed Indigo oddly, but let him pass while looking at me. "You two cause any trouble here, you'll be dealing with me, understand lad?" I nodded, and Indigo mimicked my actions. "Now, ye need anything just ask for Carmine at Aralyn's Temple." Francis gave me directions to the temple, and I was on my way.

Aralyn sounded familiar, but I couldn't put my finger on it. It's probably nothing, now let's see if there's any jobs open.

"Woah..." I was in awe of Aralyn's Temple, it was an architectural masterpiece that was too amazing to put into words. The walls had portraits of Aralyn, who was quite the looker. Her hair was a shining gold and eyes were an ocean green, her clothes were regal looking, and in her hands was a shining harp.

"Woah..." Indigo mimicked, and I patted him on the head before we headed inside.

The inside was simple, the walls were painted a yellow with white trim and the floor had a carpet in the center. There was also a woman dressed in white robes humming a song while tending to a nearby bookshelf, and since she was the only one in sight I decided to ask for Carmine.

"Excuse me Miss, I'm looking for someone." I asked politely, and she turned to answer.

"Yes child, who is it you seek?" She asked, and I noticed she bore a striking resemblance to the murals outside. I chalked that up to coincidence, and asked my question.

"I was told that if I was looking for help, look for Carmine at the Temple." She nodded, and soon pointed me to the back door.

"He's in the garden playing songs for his children, and welcome to our temple, child." I thought it was a bit strange for calling me child, but I thanked her for the help and was on my merry way.

Opening the door to the garden, I stepped out into the cool Summer's air and took a deep breath. I never noticed it before, but the air here smelt much fresher than the air back home. When Indigo and I got outside, we heard the sound of a pan flute playing softly nearby. Since we had sometime, I thought we should check it out.

To my surprise, I saw a human playing songs for three kids of varying races. Not that he was playing for them mind you, but that they were living examples of creatures from myth and fantasy. The youngest child was an Arachne wearing a sky blue dress, and her brunette hair was neatly tied back into a pony tail. The second and third were twins, both of them had draconic traits like wings, a tail, and claws. As for the man, he had brunette hair and a large frame.

I wasn't the tallest guy, but he looked like he dwarfed me by a good head. The music stopped when he noticed me, and I awkwardly waved with Indigo next to me.

"Sorry to interrupt, are you Carmine?" I asked, and he nodded.

"Carmine the Songbird, at your service." I was right about him dwarfing me, and I was surprised when he took a bow after introducing himself. "And who are you two?" He inquired, and I answered truthfully.

"I'm Marcus, and this is-" I was interrupted by Indigo introducing himself.

"Indigo! I am Indigo." Carmine chuckled at Indigo's childlike excitement, and shook my hand.

"A pleasure to meet you, so what is it you need?" Well a lot of things, like a way to get home, maybe some food, but the most important thing on my list was getting a steady job. A job can earn me money, which in turn allows me to purchase my own stuff. Once I have my own stuff, I can explore the world.

"Are there any open jobs around here? I'm new to the land, and I have nothing." Besides the clothes on my back and a lot of stuff I have with me, I've got nothing.

Carmine thought it over for a few moments, before snapping his fingers. "Well the Town Guard could use some more hands, or there's a new opening at the apple orchard." Both of those sound good, though I'd prefer if I wasn't in danger of being stabbed by some brigand or angry drunk.

After some time weighing decisions, I chose the orchard. "Who runs the orchard, and where can I find them?" Carmine told me who ran the Orchard, a centaur by the name of Sage. He was a retired Mercenary, and he was often found at Flora's Temple just across town, it was next to Morana's Temple.

Apparently Aralyn was the Goddess of Music and Healing, and Flora was the Goddess of Life. As for Morana, she was the Goddess of Death and the lover of Flora. Pretty nice, this world must view relationships differently from my world if two of their Goddesses are loving it up without anyone stirring up shit.

"Thanks Carmine, guess I'll be seeing you around." I thanked him for the time, and he gave me a hug before sending me on my way. A bit odd, but it was nice getting a hug from someone here.

Things are going my way today...

In the next chapter, Marcus will get a new job at an apple orchard and Indigo will cuddle.

What will happen after that? Who the fuck knows.

I'm a little confused. From your first post you had a cellphone, so I'm surprised your first action was to walk in a straight line rather than checking your phone...

I'm also surprised you walked into the church saying you have nothing, while presumably still wearing the backpack o stuff you mentioned at the start.
The forest I usually hike in has awful signal, so I just take the phone either to kill time or to send a message. As for the nothing thing, I meant it was not having any money.

This is gonna be fun, though I have to wonder.

What lurks beneath the surface of light? Is it darkness, or more light?

I don't know, but this is going to be a wild ride.

Eloquently put, Mad Oracle. This looks interesting, the writing quality is also pretty good.

Chapter 3: The End To A Great Day
Walking across town, I almost forgot to ask anyone the town's name. It's Traveling 101, know the town you're in and it's position relative to the nearest city. While mentally berating myself, I made a small side note to figure out where the hell we are. Hopefully we're somewhere nice, and not a place where crime is rampant.

Though I'm guessing this place doesn't get much trouble, considering I haven't been mugged or threatened since I've gotten here. Looks like luck is on my side, or whatever's watching me here.

Walking through the town, I noticed a large temple with a fence surrounding it. It had the symbol of a green flower emblazoned on the front, and I knew that this was most likely Flora's Temple. It was actually very spartan for a temple, with the only grand things about it were the size and the large mural of Flora inside.

She was a literal angel, I'm not even joking. Golden wings and skin kissed by the sun, and her chestnut hair was something my mother would've killed for.

Stepping inside, I was greeted by a young gentleman dressed in green. "Greetings outsiders," He bowed his head, and continued. "What brings you to our quiet town of Rolling Hills?"

I thought over it for a bit, before answering. "Oh just looking for work, do you know where I can find a centaur named Sage?" A flash of recognition crossed the young man's face, and he pointed me to the main hall.

"He's an avid worshipper of her Grace, I'm sure he'll be out in a few minutes." I thanked him, and waited in the entryway with Indigo. Indigo seemed curious about the temple next door, as he was looking through the window right at it.

He seemed transfixed by it, and his head tendrils bobbed around absentmindedly while he was idle. "You okay there Indy?" It was starting to get unnerving, so maybe he needed me to snap him out of it.

"Indigo curious about Morana, visit?" I patted his head and told him after we get a job, or at the least get me one. While I'm not really sure about the mysteries of Slimes, I'm pretty sure all he needs is moisture to survive. Once Sage gets done with his prayers, I'll see if he has any jobs opened. If not, I'll find a job with the Town Guard.

As if right on cue, a six foot tall centaur stepped out of the main hall. He was wearing a gray shirt and hanging around his neck was a green amulet, as for his physical appearance he was quite the sight. Sage had black hair that was mostly graying, and his skin was tanned from his time on the world.

"I heard you were looking for me, what is it?" Getting up from my seat, I introduced myself and Indigo.

"My name is Marcus, and this little guy..." Gesturing to Indigo, he perked up and smiled before I introduced him to Sage. "This is Indigo, and we're looking for any sort of work." Sage gave me a look over, before giving his answer.

"I apologize boys, but I've enough hands for my orchard already." Well shit, there's Plan A in the trash. "But, there's one thing I need done for me that I can pay you both." Mentally backpedaling for a second, I looked him in the eye and gave him a 'go on' motion. "You see I've got a small problem with dead trees on my orchard, if you can go and cut them down for me I'll see what I can do for payment."

I mulled over it for a bit, then stuck my hand out for a handshake. "I'll do it, though do you have the tools?" Sage gave a hearty laugh before shaking my hand, and he had a strong grip.

"Oh I've got a few old axes at my house somewhere, come I'll show you." Sage lead us from the Temple of Flora and through the town, it was a nice town. Quiet, not much to worry about save for whatever's outside the walls. The cobblestone road soon gave way to dirt as we moved away from the town, and finally we arrived at Sage's home.

It was a nice place, a single story building surrounded by apple trees. Once we were inside I noticed that the place was decorated with trophies from past events, each one holding their own tale. On the floor lay a rug made from a bear, and the wall was decorated with the skulls of a few monsters.

Ignoring the skulls, I noticed that Sage was digging through a cabinet filled with weapons of all kinds.

"I could've sworn I left it in here..." Sage thought to himself, before pulling a lumber axe out of the cabinet's reaches. "There it is, fell of its hook." The centaur handed it to me, and I tested its weight. Heavy at the head, but that's to be expected of an axe like this. "Now you chop down any dead trees you see, and I'll pay you twenty-five coins for each one you fell." Seemed reasonable, and I just learned the world's currency.

Double win!

...

After agreeing on the payment, Indigo and I began our walk around the orchard. We'd work our way to the inner orchard through the edge, and go on from there.

Indigo was really helpful, since he spotted most of the dead trees. In hindsight though I think it was my left eye acting up, damn thing tends to go blurry at the worst times. There's a funny story as to why my eye acts that way, a long time ago I was hiking through the woods. Next thing I know, I'm hit in the face with a branch. Lost sight in my left eye for a few weeks after that, and it's been off and on since then.

Really should've cussed out the bastard who did that to me more, I spent the first few days bumping into things. Now where was I? Oh right, cutting down trees with Indigo.

Felling the trees was the easy part, but it was the removal process that annoyed me. We must've spent an extra four hours hauling wood to a burn pit, at least that's what it felt like. But it was well worth it in the end, as we managed to fell seven dead trees. Once our job was done, the sun was setting and I was tired and in desperate need of a shower.

"I can't thank you both enough for this, and as a token of gratitude you can keep the axe." Sage rewarded us with exactly one-hundred and seventy-five coins, which was pretty nice. I thanked him for the job, and we were on our way.

Now, let's see about getting clean.

...

I had spent a few minutes looking for a place to get clean, and lo and behold the river from earlier had saved my ass once more. It was flowing away from the town, so I could bathe without risking contamination. Indigo was...I didn't know what he was doing, I guess he was resting? I have no clue how slimes worked, but he did take the shape of a blob and let his eyes disappear before I got in the river.

The only complaints I had were that it was fucking freezing and I couldn't see. But hey, at least I didn't smell likes I crawled through gym clothes for an hour straight.

After an hour of washing both myself and my clothes, I finally returned to town with a sleepy Indigo following me. It was a short trek, but once we had gotten into the town it was straight to the Inn. I stopped outside to admire the sign, which had a picture of a moon with a harp over it.

"The Whispering Harp Inn," I read aloud, before turning to my little buddy. "Wanna go inside?" Indigo gave a tired nod, and we stepped inside. It was a nice place, with a gentle tune being played by a bard in the corner. In fact I felt tired just by hearing it, and so I headed for the counter.

The tavern owner was...Tall, like a few heads taller than me. She was tanned, and she had a dark horn in the middle of her forehead. "Hello there sir, can I get you anything?" I fished around my pack for my coins, and quietly asked for a room. "Alrighty then sir, that'll be ten coins for the both of you." Fishing out twenty coins, I placed five more as a tip.

"Here you go ma'am." Handing it over, she counted it out right there before taking out five and handing it back to me.

"Sir, I believe you may have overpaid." I waved it off, a small smile growing on my face.

"Consider it a gift, thank you for the room." The owner thanked me, then gave me directions to our room. It was the second door to the left on the third floor, after that I thanked her again before heading upstairs.

Arriving at the specified door, I unlocked it using the key she gave me. Once I heard it click, I opened the door and set my stuff next to my bed. It was packed up, and I had double checked to see if I had everything. Finishing that up, I covered myself up with the blanket provided while Indigo curled up into a slimy ball on the floor.

I whispered good night to him, then gave him a nice pat on the head before falling asleep.

...

I woke up with a start, the sound of clashing steel and screams had disturbed me from my slumber. I got up out of bed to see what was going on, but not before grabbing the axe Sage had given me earlier. Then I heard it, what sounded like a shout coming from outside.

"Scream for blood my brothers and sisters, for our Lord cares not for where the blood flows!" Everything seemed to kick into overdrive at that moment, and soon I had my pack, my new axe, and Indigo ready to move. I was confused, scared, and alert of everything and anything around me.

Just what was going on?

...

What will happen in the next chapter? Find out next time on Dragon Ball Z At The Tip Of The Sword!

Well, you didn't waste time with throwing the poor guy into the deep end, that's for sure. Shame about the characters introduced in this chapter, considering their chances of survival.

Chapter 4: When Light Shines Upon Darkness
Opening the door of my room, I took a few steps forward before holding my axe out towards whoever might hurt me. I didn't know who was here, or what was going on but I am not dying here today. Not after spending that much time working, and because it's kind of stupid to die on your first day in a new world.

At least, that's my take on it.

Ignoring that part of my brain, I took quiet steps down the wooden stairs. I kept close to the wall because that's where its most settled, and I don't want anyone to know my position unless they're a friend.

Making it to the first floor, I kept the axe ready while Indigo was behind me. The tavern owner was hiding behind her counter, and I may have alarmed her with my appearance. Which in turned lowered my chances of survival when whoever was attacking Rolling Hills found us, meaning we're fucked beyond measure when they break through those doors.

As cliché as it was, I stretched my free hand out for her. "Come with us if you want to live." To my relief, she took my hand. We were soon a group, and now trying to figure out how to get out.

"Escape?" Indigo mentioned, a slight tinge of fear in his voice.

"There's a back door, though I may have...Lost the keys." She sheepishly admitted, and I gestured to my axe.

"Keys?" I asked, and chuckled. "With this, we don't need keys." It was an odd reference, but I'm going to need them if I'm going to stay sane in this world. Making references when no one would get them, and I don't care.

Anyways, following my new ally to the back of the building I could hear someone hammering at the front door. We didn't have much time till they broke through the doors, and we're not going to be here when they get in.

At lest, I hope we get out.

Pushing that thought out of my mind, we arrived at the door and readied my axe. Once the owner got out of my way, I swung the axe downward upon the handle. The sound of splintering wood cracked, and I pulled it free once more before hacking again. With a few more swings, the door swung free and we got out of there faster than a bat out of hell.

Once we were in the confusing alleyways we stopped to catch our breath and hide, hoping that the worst of it is over. "Well that was easy...." I muttered, my heart feeling like it was about to explode any second. "What's your name?" I asked, hoping that I wouldn't have to call her 'Tavern Keeper' every time I wanted to talk to her.

She was quiet for a few moments, until she answered me. "Ari, owner...Well former owner of the Whispering Harp." There was a tone of bitterness in her voice, and I couldn't blame her.

"Well Ari, are there any safe havens in the town that are nearby?" She knew this town better than me, if Belle could lead us to a nearby shelter we're golden. Though that's just my optimist talking, the realist says we have a higher chance of dying if we stay here.

"There's the Temples, Clerics and Paladins are always passing through." That was good, though before I could ask more she spoke. "The Temple of Aralyn is the closest one I can think of, so are we going?" I motioned for her to lead the way, and soon we were taking the alleys to the Temple.

...

It was...Horrifying looking at what the raiders had done to people, having butchered any and all in their path. But I ignored the squishing sounds as I stepped through gore and assorted body parts, I was more focused on standing and getting out alive.

While Indigo and I were following Ari, I thought of how her name is most likely a derivative of Aralyn. Maybe a local name, or it's like names derived from mythology.

While I was thinking, Ari stopped when I heard the clashing of steel around the next corner. I bumped into her back in my trance, and Indigo bumped into me. A chill went up my spine, as I finally realized how cold Indigo was. Not emotionally cold, like physically cold. Ignoring the cold, I asked Ari what she saw.

"I think you should see for yourself." Taking cautious steps, I poked my head out and was surprised by what I saw.

There was a titanic knight in shining armor fighting off the raiders with a mace and shield, and I recoiled when I heard him shout a challenge to the invaders.

"Come at me you bastards! Sons of the War God Lanius, Aralyn's light shall send you back to the bloody hole you crawled from!" His voice was powerful and proud, but it sounded...Familiar. I didn't have time to think as he cracked the skull of a nearby raider, his mace shining with a bright light.

This may have been the dumbest idea in history, but I was going to help him. With whatever adrenaline that was flowing in my veins, I went behind the first raider I saw and brought my axe upon his head.

I didn't think about my first kill, in fact my mind blocked any details regarding it. What I do remember is that I split his head in half, and I had brought the attention of some other Raiders to me.

With the raiders' attention on me, I heard something go by me and strike the first one in the chest. He was wearing leather armor and carrying an axe in his right hand, but his armor and weapon did nothing as whatever hit him had pierced it through. His body went down with a crunch, and I noticed Indigo was next to me.

"Stay away from Indigo friend!" If it went for the fact his hands were glowing with snow flakes forming, I would've thought it was someone else who did it.

The other raiders paused for a moment, and that moment was long enough that the Knight in shining armor could lead a group of the town guard right into their ranks. After a few minutes of brutal fighting, the raiders were dead and I was still confused. While I was looking around, I noticed the knight walking towards me.

"Marcus, what in Aralyn's Blessed name were you doing?" I was confused, until he removed his helmet.

"Carmine?" I asked, ready to hug the bastard right then and there. "What the fuck happened here?" Though I needed that questioned answered first, since what the hell's going on?

Carmine sat me down on the steps of the temple, and Indigo was going inside with Ari. He looked exhausted, most likely from battling for Gods know how long.

"Damned worshippers of the Dark Gods, their Patrons of the Umbral Planes." His voice was dripping with a venom I didn't even know he was capable of, and I let him continue. "That's what happened here, and we sent them back to the hole they crawled from." There was a small smile on his face, and he patted me on the back. "Now, you go get some rest in the temple while I..." Carmine gestured to the town. "Help fix the mess here."

I thanked him for his time, and I went inside.

...

After going inside, I noticed emergency beds placed strategically around the Temple. With some looking, I finally found Ari and Indigo in one of the corners.

Bidding them both good night, I fell asleep within a few scant minutes of my head hitting the pillow.

...

When the Sun rises, darkness vanishes. But there is always shadow, which hides from the light.

You are the Shadows...

...

My dreams that night had been...Strange, for lack of a better word. I dreamt of a regal palace, and whispers telling me that I was shadows. In the regal palace, I saw beautiful red tapestries and many exquisite pieces of art. But my dream ended before I could explore it anymore, and I was left disappointed I couldn't enjoy it anymore.

Waking up had been a rough event, I had to be flipped from my bed by Ari before I had actually started to get out of bed. Once I woke up, I found a place to wash my hands and got some breakfast from one of the clerics passing out food. After eating my breakfast, I went to the river to brush my teeth.

I spent some time looking through the town, noticing that it had lost a few buildings and no doubt people. I noticed Francis Iron-Hand was talking to Carmine and his kids, since I was curious I decided to talk to them.

"Greeterlings," Greeting them in the way of Earth, I got a handshake from Francis and a back breaking hug from Carmine. "So, anything interesting going through the grapevine today?" I asked, after recovering my breath.

Carmine pointed to the wagon that was at the town gates, and began to speak. "I'm going on the road again, there's a temple in Caldera and I have been waiting to make the pilgrimage there ever since I was a young man." It sounded interesting, though I've heard the name of Caldera before...

Oh son of a bitch was I that blind this entire time?

While I was mentally cursing myself for not realizing the world I was in was one of my own, I also didn't recognize the damn signs. I thought I was in some fantasy world, not some...World I've created in fantasy.

But I digress.

"Mind if we join you?" I ask, pointing to Indigo and Ari. "You could say I'm an explorer from another country, could even say another world entirely." It was half truth, but perfect for the time being.

Carmine shook my hand again, and after bidding Francis goodbye we were on our way. Though there was one thing that was biting at the back of my mind, where was Sage?

Well that question went unanswered for the rest of my life, and I never saw him after that.

...

Tune in next time for 'At The Tip Of The Sword'! We'll return to see Marcus on the Road to Caldera, and he learns what the messages mean.
