As An Eagle Flies (A House Arryn Quest)

You know, the Volantis must be loving these turn of events as Braavos is their rival free city. Depending on how things go Pentos might rebel against Braavos authority and restart trading in slavery.

We need to get a second road out to The Twins and Seagard over our northern coast if possible. We are going to have severe issues with bottlenecking considering that, right now, everything from the Vale has to go through either Gulltown or the Bloody Gate. Or maybe The Sisters, then ferrying over. Gulltown is really our only true deep water port and that is a major economic and military vulnerability.

A lot of our construction projects will be drastically different from what we expect from a Europe-based fantasy: Our situation is closer to that of the Inca than the High Medieval, at least from a geographic standpoint. I fully expect significant terracing by the end of this.

For the Vale to progress too much more, though, we'll need to deal with the Mountain Clansmen in one way or another. They aren't really a threat to any truly established holding, being to thin on the ground and poorly equipped and disorganized, but we are going to be dangling a lot of unestablished holdings into the cold air. And they are more or less perfectly built to avoid our knights on any ground we actually want to fight on. I expect to see losses before too long and silver mines are a lot easier to guard than a lot of things we could be doing.

Although I can't say things for certain, that is part of Jon's plan. However, being able to execute it is another thing, as the Mountian clans are going to be trouble.

True.

Which is where.... we may come in.

Once we're all hunky-dory and trained to be badass, we're going to either be ruling the Vale in Jon's stead as he deals with those problems, or we're the ones doing the negotiating.

That is if we're not at war with the Free cities, the Blackfyres or... our own fellow vassels.

The Mountain Clans are about as united as the Wildlings so that will be a messy affair. Some of their tribes have less commonality with each other than we have with the bloody Dornish from what I can see. They don't have hereditary rulership, at least past the children of a leader having prestige and a chance to maybe grown their own following before their matriarch or patriarch dies to a misplaced axe. Their meritocracy can take the form of anything from traditional right of strength to tribal councils to simply showing that you have more balls than anyone else present through ritual self mutilation.

And the only time they would naturally be united enough to deal with them as a bloc would be when they are united specifically against us. Even if we sway most, there will be no consensus. I don't know what the ideal endgame looks like here, honestly. But perhaps we don't need one. Just buying time is something and so is acquiring client states like, say, France in the New World or Republic Rome in the old.

If we went to war at least we could just hire them, making them Varangians, but that has problems as well.

THat is both a blessing and a curse, but there is something that i can say that won't spoil the plans. The Mountian Clans are also like the hill clans in the North... meaing you can bring them under your thumb, you just need to be a badass.

Or at least, pretend to be a badass, and have that cycle continue for at least three generations to make it last.

otherwise the cycle will need to start again. If you can make the Mountian Clans your vassal for Jon, your own and your childrens lifetime, that will start the domino effect of them feudalizing, or at very least, respecting the authority of the Vale of Arryn.

Basically what I'm saying is, your going to need to get your hands dirty for them to respect you.

The Hill Clans of the North may be the only potential end game we can reasonably expect in our lifetime, but we need to live to become an old man for that to happen

Arstan's Education payments: 25,000
gold?

seems a fair bit high if you ask me??
not that it should be nothing but still that a lot of money.

The Grand Maester himself and possibility of squiring under the Kingsguard is the Westeros equivalent of Harvard Law School Valedictorian and American Football Tean Captain at the same time.
even if i grant that, (not sure i do but anyway) those are grand opening for sure i`ll grant that but for the amount of money being spend one could do a lot of things!

i`ll admit having 'friends' at court of a number of LP and the royals does balance things out a bit still for in cost V reward that still sounds like a big purse.
seeing the af none noble could live a fairly good life from like one gold dragon

Actually, it includes in the following order:

Travel payment (the ship we traveled on was Aegon's personal ship and crew)
Equipment (Aegon may have had extra, but Armor needed to be specially made)
Material (Aegon is not willing to fork over cash to pay for supplies since he had to do it for his own children already)
And Payment to the Citidel (Not really necessary, but Jon needed to hire a backup Maester because his other Maester Howlet is getting a bit on the old side.)

Part 16: True Training
Part 16: True Training

It was time for your training to begin in earnest. The greatest diplomat of the realm… that wasn't your father, Lord Valyreon, was coming to king's landing to teach you everything about diplomacy, and begin your language studying.

The man was widely considered the master of linguistics of the Westerosi Nobility, and his training was hash and very brutal.

Diplomacy Roll:1D100 => 52+10(Traits)+ 40(Master Linguist, Master Diplomat)=102

(Diplomacy Rank up by 1 level to Skilled. Language learned: The Old Tongue of the Ironborn.)

It seemed the training that Lord Valyreon offered was that of the customs and languages, and you mastered it all in less than a few months.

It was quite… interesting… and absolutely tiring.

But life moved on.

And so will you.

What do you do:
Choose 6 Actions

[]Train in Combat: You will learn to master Swordsmanship.

[]Train in Martial (Command): You will study the masters of old, learn their secrets, their strengths and avoid their weaknesses.

[]Train in Administration (Stewardship): You need to be a good lord. And that means being able to handle coin.

[]Knightly Virtue: You will change the knights into what they were supposed to be.

[]Go to the Library: You want to read some books.

[]Betrothal News: It seems your father has betrothed you to someone... Best find out who it is.

[]Request an Audience with the King: You want to speak to the King, in private hopefully. About duty, and knighthood… And why the hell his Master of Whispers missed that plot.

[]Spend time with Joanna: The Other Lannister was much more... social, less cold and calculating.

[]Spend time with Rhaella: she is your friend and loves reading… maybe… wait, she wants you to help her find a book?

[]Spend time with Nymeria: The Dornish girl has that idea she wants to tell you about.

[]Spend time with Steffon: Steffon the Brave he is being called. He likes it far too much.

[]Spend time with Tywin: Well, he is certainly an interesting fellow to talk to.

[]Spend time with Aerys: Areys is… devoting himself to his studies... best to see how he is doing.

[]Request to Squire with one of the Kingsguard: You want to become a knight, in earnest now.

AN: Enjoy.

plan format please.
