Aquatic Combat in Halo

Do you guys wish that any future halo installments would implement underwater combat? I personally think it would be a great way to introduce new transports, weapons, environments, and species. This could introduce a new niche covenant faction species or two that was previously not involved due to it being an aquatic adapted species.

Also, is there any mention of underwater combat in any of the expanded halo lore?

Surface water have been mentioned, and possibly written before, with the appearance of a surface Aircraft Carrier in New Mombasa.

Still underwater combat is very unlikely in Halo as both sides are verily focused in space and ground combats. Plus I don't really see it fitting through.

I mean, I know you couldn't have a whole game dedicated to it. But a mission or two where the premise is the Covenant are trying to retrieve an underwater Forerunner artifact could be interesting and provide a change of pace.

Covvie spaceships would, probably, work well enough seeing as how rounded they are. UNSC ships though, they'll just bomb the entire sea from orbit if they have to, unless said area is close to a active human settlement to which then they send in marines and ODSTs to secure the coast along with sending in more ODSTs and SPARTANs riding a underwater version of a drop-pod or a open frame 92/extra vehicular activity.

For ship-to-ship underwater combat I suppose modern submarines would still work though they'll be ONI ships and you know how finicky ONI are. At best they'd fire off a volley or two of torpedoes and missiles to cover the attack team or flush them out then bug off.

EDIT: At most UNSC Space Frigates would commence ASW on it from the air, no use in floating in water only to get shot at, plus those frigates have good mobility in air.

I know people will give me looks for it, but I think the book Ghosts of Onyx mentioned Blue Team was on a mission underwater before the story proper.

I also think there was a map in Halo 5 which was set underwater and maybe had a submarine nearby. Would make for a pretty interesting mission.

Yup, taking out an underwater Covenant dig site off the Yucatan Peninsula.

There's also a mention in First Strike of an aquatic ops exercise - not strictly combat, but - that the S-IIs did while trainees, where Chief Mendez sabotaged half their air tanks, so they stole his, ditched Mendez and spent a week chilling out.

Thanks for the replies all.

Also, I'm guessing that MC's suit would be able to handle underwater fine. Could he hypothetically run along the bottom of the lake/ocean/sea?

Also worth pointing out is that an ocean mission could be a chance to introduce some potential new environments or creatures. Think of something out of Subnautica ;). Also it might give a chance for the Yonhet to come out into the games, if only for a bit of it.
