Apartment-Mansion Complex vs Giant Otters!

Plastic Family
The floor isn't immediately hostile or deadly, that's clear enough. Now you just need to do the last test, getting back to the elevator. You're not worried about that, getting back is rarely hard if nothing's happened by this point. You brush by some of the plants on your way back, but they continue to do nothing. It's kinda creepy. They aren't right, but they aren't doing anything.

"Next!" You say, stopping after putting a foot in the elevator. There, safe! There's even call buttons on the outside.

"Ready!" Says Bottle, stepping away from the door. Map puts a foot out to keep blocking the doors, though she's only half paying attention. She's drawing the start of the floor plan for this level, and you're happy to leave her to it. Maps are important, but they aren't fun.

You and Bottle go back down the hall, and you pick a door at random. No knockers or door bell, so you just use your hand. knock knock.

No response. There's a peep hole, so you check that next. It's a little high for most Friends, so you have Bottle give you a boost. A quick peek reveals it's a two way, lucky for you. The inside has the plants inside as well, though not as many of them. It's still blurry though, so you can't see much else.

Your next move is risky, but with what you know, only a little. You get off Bottle and signal ber to step back, then wedge your crowbar between the frame and the door. A sharp pull later and you crack it open!

You step in quick and do a quick look around. Single room, open closet. There's a kitchen area, a small table in the middle, and some folded up futons in back-right corner. No windows. A mostly normal apartment. That might cause problems later...

But there are two odd things. First is all the fake plants. The floor does not have as many, but the walls and ceiling are thick with vines. Second is...

Well, they're in the other back corner. They look like humans, but they're as still and lifeless as the plants. There's three of them, a man, woman and a child, probably. The man sorta looks like he's trying to cover the other two while they're huddled together. You watch them for a moment, but they're still as statues. Good enough. "Safe!" You call.

"Safe!" Bottle calls back, and you hear her enter behind you. You inspect the statues a little more. It looks kinda like a family. Is this art? You don't know art, too busy exploring and discovering and fighting, hahahaha!

But there's pictures and stuff all over the building, so you kinda know, but if this is art it's way above you. You turn away to look at something else. Bottle is at the refrigerator, taking things out and letting the rat sniff them, before putting them back. You look at the table, and there is food on it. You pick up a piece of what looks like corn, but it's fake, like everything else.

Huh, the table is set for three. And there's silverware, and that's not fake so you're thinking about grabbing some of the knives and forks later, but some is sitting on the plates. There's even a spoon on the floor. And while the food is fake, the plates aren't full, like someone was interrupted part way through a meal. Huh, is that part of it? Sounds kinda arty to you. You look back at the statues. And pause.

...Was the man always holding that strip of cloth?

There's a thud from the hallway and you and Bottle twist to face the door. Nothing in the frame. You look at Bottle, and she looks at you, but shakes her head. She didn't see anything. Still, you both make for the door. Whatever it is, you can't let it get between you and the elevator.

As you step out you look down the hall. "Map?" You call.

She standing in elevator, still blocking it open, but with her hands on thr panel. "Safe!" She calls back. "Didn't see anything!"

That might be bad. Anything that sneaks around is bad. You look down the other end of the hall, and see one of the plants was tipped over.

Then you hear Bottle shout, and the door behind you slam shut.

You turn, crowbar out and ready, to see Bottle on the floor and scrambling back to her feet. The door to the apartment is closed. You help her back on her feet, and carefully try the door. It wouldn't budge. You know the lock's broken, so you get Bottle to lift you back up to the peep hole. You can't see anything, something is covering the other side.

Exciting!

There's something here, and you need to be sure the map makes it back! Though you will be leaving her alone...

Oh no. Weeping Angels but they're plastic army men.

This is awful, I hate it.

"Maps", no apostrophe

The wording is such that I expect "does not" instead.

The room shows signs of things rapidly turning into plastic, or fake-dead-plant-material if we keep it Friends-friendly. The otters should be suspicious of something that can strike suddenly and take out a family. Especially when it is a family of three, all huddled together. Should be close enough to home to ring all kinds of warning bells.

I don't think we should bring Map. Nothing happens that warranted use of full numbers, but on the other hand we don't know if whatever is hiding -- if it is hiding -- would be troubled by three otters any more than by two. And the elevator is supposed to be safe. If anything shows up, Map should just abandon the team and leave. Such is the protocol.

If it's just nerves talking and there isn't anything dangerous there are buttons to call the elevator from inside the floor, so her team can get out by themselves.

We aren't outsneaking the thing we can't even see or notice, so go in fast and hope it prompts a response.
