Any Inter-species Romance reccomendations? (No smut)

Maybe it's the shipping wars, maybe it's some movie I've watched. Heck, it's probably a (Fan)fiction I've read.
In any case, I suddenly have the desire to read about romance, but with a touch of fantasy/sci-fi.

It's really hard to find anything of quality in this category, without entering the realm of smut. Believe me, I've been looking through google and the only thing I can find are 30 year old housewives who are trying to find the next answer to Fifty Shades of Grey. Uncomfortable fetishes included.

I'm looking for some inter-species romance, preferably male human with female something else.
Only I don't want to to focus on intercourse, but about genuine conflict between species, or just whatever's making love difficult.
Not that the 18+ stuff is forbidden, I just don't it to return every two pages.

An example would probably help narrow my request down.
I'm a big fan of G. Howell's writing. About a human finding himself in a world of Cat people.

If there's anything others would like to share and add, I'd love to see some stories I might have missed.
*Side Note. I also accept Human X AI stories.

The Libriomancer trilogy by Jim C. Hines includes romance between a human and a dryad as a major plot point.

Plus, it's a really good series in its own right.

Already read the first two books, my attention started waning afterwards, but a good book nevertheless. Might have to pick the third one up someday.

Basically Human non-human or genuinely alien non-human? Because I could probably point you to some kind of Star Wars or Star Trek fiction for the former. Wouldn't know much for the latter, I tend to read fanfiction more often really.

Unfortunately, it's female human and female nonhuman, but I really think The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet is right up your alley.

It's a standalone novel SF novel about the crew of a wormhome-driller spaceship, and the entire thing feels a lot like a season of Farscape to me. The romance is between the new hire, a young woman who they bring on to deal with administration efforts and writing reports and shit, and the pilot, a kind of cat-lizard thing.

The various aliens have very different cultures - the cat-lizard people for an example don't have any emotional attachment to their children, and in fact don't consider children to be people somewhere up to the local equivalent of puberty. They also don't believe in stuff like personal space, as a lot of their even casual interaction with their own species involves touching and stroking the other person.

A huge theme in the novel is the different cultures and how they have to both make allowances for how people are different, and also change their own behavior to coexist in galactic society.

The main plot-arc of the novel involves a species that inhabits the galactic core, and which has up until now been rabidly xenophobic and isolationist, killing anyone who came into their space but not attempting to conquer anything outside. But now, one faction has opened diplomatic talks with the rest of the galaxy, and everyone hopes they can negotiate for access rights to the vast treasures of the core.

While fanfiction isn't bad perse, I'd rather look into original works for now.
But if you have anything which you absolutely recommend because of the quality, feel free to tell me about it.

It does sound interesting, though it's regrettably F/F. Won't stop me for checking it out though. Thanks for the recommendation.

Well, there's also the sideplot of one of the ship's engineers who falls in love with the ship AI, but I didn't think "human male and disembodied computer lady voice" really counted as what you wanted.

Oh no.
I'm a full Armsmaster X Dragon shipper.
Human X AI is definitely something I'm also looking for.

On topic Farscape has several well done inter-species romances.

Uh does Spice and Wolf count?

While I don't say Spice and Wolf is a bad example, seeing as it's one of the more serious Light Novels out there, I'm not really in the mood for Japanese kind of inter-species romance at the moment. Whereas I can enjoy their storytelling, their idea of non-human is basically limited to sticking animal traits on a teenage girl and giving her a couple of animalistic quirks.

And that's not even mentioning how they portray Aliens...

Don't tell me, they portray them as basically being japanese people?

Honestly, the closest thing to a real alien/human romance is Kill La Kill and that's only on a technicality.

It's human-female-male-android and not the other way around, but there's The Silver Metal Lover by Tanith Lee.

You're spot on.

Kind of why I asked if anyone found more.
I have searched around and I did find several books, which I'm going to read.

But they're all Human Female X Non-Human Male, of which I want the complete opposite.
Nevertheless, thanks for the submission.
