Wherein you play as a man who teeters close to the domain of vicious beasts. Inspired by the arcade game "Altered Beast" and a PS2 game of the same name. Let's begin with the rules shall we?

[Mechanics]

To prevent this from being an entirely narrative driven quest and text walls, you will have to manage abilities and resources that will decide the flow of of the story. Here is a brief introduction.

Resources:

Health (Your overall physical condition. Dropping to zero may cause you to faint or even die.)

Stamina (Physical capacity and fatigue. Can be expended to exert physical feats or certain tasks. Can be expended to go on negatives, but will bestow penalties for it. Expending further into negatives may cause loss of consciousness.)

Psyche (Overall mental capacity. Can be expended for actions that require mental exertion such as scholarly pursuit or other stressful actions. Can go into negatives, but will bestow penalties for it. Having very low psyche in certain situations may cause loss of consciousness or worse.)

Abilities:

Proficiency or mastery in certain areas be it physical or intellectual. Time can be spent to hone your abilities by a 1d100 (I will roll for it if chosen) which will decide the effectiveness of your training in that regard and increase EXP for progression. Abilities adds modifiers to roll or ensure success in any actions that is relevant to it.

Modifiers are +5 from level 1 and increases at the same value for each level.

Dice Rolling:

Best of 3 or average of 3 depending on the circumstances.

[Disclaimer: I am not yet certain how this system will hold up throughout the quest. Some features may be overhauled as we go on. Thank you for your understanding. Also I haven't quested here in a while so forgive me for any blunders.]

Story
[Introduction and chargen]

"This is Bravo 3! We're losing altitude! Command do you copy! Answer me damn-!"

"We're going to crash!", the co-pilot exclaims, cutting the helicopter's pilot short.

"Shit! Secure the package!"

"Brace for impact!"

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"RISE FROM YOUR GRAVE!", a voice shouts at you, seemingly shattering your psyche to a million pieces.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Noises like a bundle of needles stings your eardrum. A ray of light intrudes beyond your closed eyelids. You awaken, confused and lost. Who are you? Where are you now? Why does everything hurts?

"(But he's innocent!)"

"(No mere outsiders have the rights to step their feet onto our land. You know the rules!)"

"(I will care for him, and when he could stand back up I will guide him out!)"

"(Do not test my patience. If you think I would be so unwilling to be harsh on you just because of your birth, you are sorely mistaken!)"

Groaning, you raise the upper half of your body. Your eyes stings, yet you can still barely scan your surrounding. You're lying on a bad, bloodied and injured. On your left is a wall, and on your right is a lithe female figure standing between you and a muscular adult male, sword in hand. Face contorting, a wave of pain crashes onto your battered physique, your mouth letting out a slight scream.

"(No! Lay down. You are hurt.)"

The female immediately knelt down by the bed you're on, gently guiding your body down. Snarling in pain and eyes shut close, you feel her palm resting on top of your chest, a brief sense of soothing staves away pain if only just a bit.

"(Bah! The gods won't help him once they are aware of your usage of their miracles. He will die soon enough, bleeding like the mutt he is.)", the man said in a dismissive tone, walking out of the room you're in.

You looked into the eyes of the girl attending to your wound. Her stare grew dim and distant, filled with sorrow as if confirming the grim fate that awaits you....

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sure enough days pass (at least you think it had been days) your body is wrecked by all manner of pain and soreness. Each day too the girl came and attended to your needs. Dutifully she washes your wounds and fed you, absent of the healing touch she administered the days before. Even though you are unable to understand her speech, with some effort she managed to establish her name despite the language barrier.

"(Me,) Athena.", she said, pointing fervently at herself.

Athena…. somehow you seem to able to recall such a name and it seems so fitting for her, but your daily labors put your mind off of it. Soon enough, you feel strength surging into your body, signifying recovery against the sheer grievousness of your injury much to the excitement of your savior. However, a large streak of scar remained on your chest, which still stings.

After another few days, you can finally stand, exasperating your caretaker who insisted you stayed down. Something drives you to exert yourself for some reason as if it was a routine. Immediately you….

Choose 2:

[]Run out and push the limit of your recovering body. (+ Stamina)
[]Express immediate curiosity on your new surroundings. (+ Psyche)
[]Reveal the surprising extent of your recovery. (+ Health)

Despite the protest of Athena, you sprint headfirst out of the containment of your room. Through the door and out of a small living space you reach a clearing surrounded by lush greeneries. You did not stop there of course. As if overflowing with pent up energy, your half-naked bosy sped through the trees and brushes, maneuvering past rocks and fallen lumber and only stopping in front of a small waterfall.

The lithe girl shortly arrived where you are, the expression of worry ever more prevalently etched onto her visage. What greeted her is a well-built man at what could possibly be peak performance. You clenched your fist and tightened your muscles, savoring the sweet euphoria of vitality. After all of that fades, you look back at the bewildered Athena.

A week had passed since then. Athena's visit becomes shorter and shorter seeing as you have made near full recovery. What time she spent with you were used to teach you her language. The language of "Olympians" as she calls it. Her people lived in the sacred mountaintop above where the gods are close, which is the reason for the aggression received for your uninvited stay.

You fail to learn much other than basic Olympian. You can understand the language for the most part, but can only converse in simple words. Your mind is wrecked with horrifying imagery of death and destruction. Sharp metal debris sticking out of your chest, charred corpses and scorching inferno.... Safe to say your psyche did not leave in one piece after whatever incident did you in nearly a month ago. (Gained "Olympian Linguistic Level #1")

"So, you're saying you lost your memory?"

You give a weak nod in reply.

"I do recall some sort of.... chariot? Yes chariot burning in the sky and falling down to earth. I would have settled it to be trickery of spirits, had it not been how close it landed!"

Athena explained extensively of the incident. After this "sky chariot" crashes near the mountain side, she found only you to be alive among the few dead bodies intact.

"I also found this."

A battered crate. The crate is in a less than serviceable state, but Athena claimed that no one even so much peeked inside after rescuing you. As she excused herself at noon, you inspected the crate.

You can read the writing inscripted on it. It is the language you seem to be fluent in before you lost your memory. "B-1042 Gen?m? (unillegible symbol) -2004". The lock seems to be sturdy enough to hold out another beating. You leave it well enough undisturbed for now.

It seems that your time here will come to an end soon. You've nowhere to go, but it is clear you are not welcome here. However, the day leaves much time to be spent. What will you do now? (Choose 2)

[] Try to break open the crate with brute force. (-2 Stamina)
[] Athena left some texts for reference. Study Olympion Linguistics. (-1 Psyche)
[] Venture into the nearby forest and calm your mind. (Recover 1 Psyche)

Loot the crate! I'd want to study the language further, but we're low on Psyche already.

This is certainly an unusual setting for a quest. I like it.

Story
The better part of the afternoon and evening was spent with you sitting cross-legged on the floor and going through the reference text repeatedly. Soon enough, you gain better understanding on Olympian language pronunciation and grammatical structure. You're now confident enough to converse in full sentences when talking in Olympian. Still, your speech is plagued with accent that makes certain words sounds the opposite of what it should. Good enough for now, perhaps. A slight wave of pain washes by your head. The mental exertion of your still battered mind only serves to worsen your condition. (-1 Psyche)

[Olympian Linguistics Level 2 (49/100)]

Deciding that perhaps the best course of action is to take your mind off mental burden such as these, you rest the texts by your bedside and walked out into the brushes nearby. This time, you'r lower body is covered with a ragged looking tunic, courtesy of Athena. Perhaps she could not requisition a better clothing. It is a blessing nonetheless, as opposed to waking out half-naked like last time. The fresh air soothes your nerves... (Recover +1 Psyche)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Somehow, your short evening walk turns into a full hike. You're now at the small waterfall that you found just about a week ago. On the way, you passed by a stairwell leading up the mountains. Athena is supposed to be an Olympian so she should be living up there. The peak is shrouded with clouds and you shudder at the thought of scaling it day to day. Perhaps you owe Athena more than a thank you.

Kneeling and cupping a handful of water, you savor the cold water flowing against your perched throat and into the belly. The crashing of water and symphony of nature seamlessly blends, setting a particularly calming forest ambiance. A few wildlife came by the riverside you're on to relief themselves of their thirst, but flees immediately upon seeing you. Overall, this place distills upon you perfect peac-

FWIP

A sharp sense of pain was felt at the back of your left shoulder. Puzzled, you try to feel whatever that had just stung you with great difficulty, only to pull out a wooden stick. No, not just any wooden stick. Its tip is iron and its end fletched. This is an arrow! You feel blood leaking out of the still open wound... (-2 Health)

FWIP

Another one flew past by, barely dodged. It grazes your arm causing an insignificant scratch. You are being hunted! Your ears faintly catch footsteps on the forest ground and clacking of armor. You are not alone and your assailants are more than one. Is the threat for your intrusion being delivered? It doesn't matter, all that you know is that you must now....

[] Run!
[] Sprint away at top speed! (-2 Fatigue)
[] Stand and face your assailants
[] Surrender. Maybe they will listen to reason. (-2 Psyche)

[x] Sprint away at top speed! (-2 Fatigue)
+Tactical retreat time! They're many, armored, armed and possibly actual gods, so NOPE. Also, shouldn't this be Stamina instead of Fatigue?

[X] Stand and face your assailants
I've fought Mudcrabs more fearsome than you!

Story
>[X] Sprint away at top speed! (-2 Fatigue)

Every senses in your body screams danger. You held no reservation in taking off. Adrenaline pumping and heart racing, you sped off away from the heart of green, away from the forest.

Your fears come to fruition. A couple of arrows whizz by, one of them nearly lands on your neck. Sound of pursuit is getting louder. Your assailants drops any pretense of subtlety and give chase.

Unfortunately for them, they will not have this quarry today.

Deep inside you know you can push further. Steps forward become leaps, sprint becomes stride. Feel the pulse of your nerves, you're going full throttle! The moist earth below tears with each ferocious steps as speed increases. Your heart beats so agonizingly fast and your body tightens like a vice. Stronger, faster, better!

"Chase the outsider!"

"Gods, what alacrity!"

Curses and angry voices escaped your assailants. You've no time to gloat though, as escape continues. By the time you reach the stairwell intersecting between the part of the forest you just exited and the hut you're staying in, you can barely hear any sound of pursuit. At that moment, you feel your heart close to collapse at the burden you've beset upon it just a moment ago. Recovering shortly after, you came to an impasse. Which way must you go now?

[] Back to the hut. Maybe Athena is there to diffuse this situation.
[] Down the stairwell. Your pursuers may expect this but it might also mean encountering less of them on the way down.
[] Up. They might not expect this but you might encounter more Olympians, and as such further hostility.
[] Stand and fight. You could take higher ground here.
