My first quest, I'll be honest with you don't expect this to be any good. I don't know what most of these buttons or other such things are for and this whole thing will be held together with duck-tape.

I'm just doing this because it's fun! As such I have no real obligation to keep it up should it stop being fun, I'm a college student and I have better things to do then sit in my room writing what's essentially far cry fanfiction...yet nevertheless I find myself here.

If you want to help, simply type up how to do something technical that I've messed up with (preferably without to much swearing like a sailor)
He came out a king
Kyrat is a beautiful country, full of snow capped peaks, vibrant wildlife, along with a strong people.

Kyrat is a dying country, torn apart by generations of war, the grip of a cruel tyrant, and its people eternally suffering.

Kyrat is your country, to mold and to shape. Will you finally end the destructive cycle, or snap the neck of a choking nation?

Lakshmana
"Oh good, do you feel better now? Get it out of your system?"

You didn't reply, stuck and frozen in the shrines doorframe. In less then one minute your entire world was in pieces, everything you thought you knew wrong.

Your mother...your father...your sister.

Your sister! Her face staring at you from that painting, piercing into your soul. You watched people get gunned down, saw a soldier stabbed to death by the lunatic standing casually by the helicopter you arrived in. Yet somehow none of that seems to matter anymore, because you had a little sister and your father murdered her, forcing you and your mother to flee to the states.

The states where mom had to slave away at multiple jobs to keep you fed and educated, where you were beaten by the other children at school, where every day was a struggle. Where you had to eventually become a criminal to pay for moms ever climbing medical bills, just for her life to end anyway.

You had no home to return to, this mission, her final wish...it was all you had.

You were snapped out of your turmoil by a hand falling upon your shoulder, realizing that you'd been standing still for over a minute. You turned to look to see the hand belonged to Pagan, who was staring at you with...melancholy? "Ajay my boy, perhaps I've been rushing things. I've just been so excited to finally see you again, I admittedly don't know what to do but everything!" He turned to the helicopter pilot, Khamran you believed his name was? "Change of plans, I think we'll be heading back to the palace." Khamran gave a curt nod before getting back into the helicopter, preparing for another flight. "Ajay my boy, I know this is all so overwhelming for you, which is why I feel I should just rip off the bandaid now."

Your face contorted in confusion as you replied. "Pagan you've just told me you're essentially my step-dad-" The way his face lit up for the smallest bit at those words didn't go unnoticed. "-I have...had, a sister. My father was the leader of a terrorist organization, what could you possibly tell me that would be bigger then that!"

Pagan just clapped his hands as if to say 'it's simple' before speaking with his usual glee. "Why it's nothing crazy my boy, you are now the king of Kyrat!"

You froze, then chuckled believing it a joke, then froze again when Pagan simply stood there with that shit-eating grin on his face, never revealing the punchline.

"Oh my god... you're fucking serious."

He laughed in response, gesturing with his arms and pointing towards the surroundings. "Dead serious I'm afraid, I'm giving you the keys to the castle! Though I do warn you, I've left a bit of a mess for you, though you probably saw enough of it at the border!"

He continued to laugh as you simply stood there, unable to process almost anything at this point from how lost you felt. Then it hit you, all the fear, all the confusion, all the anger, slamming into you as you finally came to the realization of what was happening.

You took a deep breath, shuddered from head to toe, and slapped your step-dad Pagan Min across the face.

Beginnings
"I'll be damned, I never expected you to have such a good arm!" Pagan shouted out as he stepped off the helicopter, nursing his left cheek which was beginning to swell.

You meanwhile still felt a mixture of awkwardness and fear after what you did, expecting some kind of torture or retribution from smacking the hell out of a modern day despot, but it never came. Instead Pagan took the hit, stood silent with a stone cold face, before chuckling again.

Now you both were walking back inside the royal palace, with Pagan sending a servant off to go fetch an ice-pack and some wine. Eventually you reached your destination, the throne room. In reality it was once the throne room for the previous Kyrati monarchs, however Pagan had altered it to suit his needs. It was rather cozy, with the throne itself having clearly been given some modern padding. You reluctantly sat on it after some teasing and shoving from Pagan, coming to the realization that it felt more like a recliner then a throne.

Pagan simply stood a bit in front of you, gazing up towards where you now sat with a smirk. "It certainly feels wierd being on the other side, but it looks good on you my boy! At least, you would if you didn't look like you just stepped out of a bargain bin, whoever designed those clothes needs to be shot!"

A couple minutes later after you'd gotten up from your throne (and jeez was that sentence confusing to think about), the two of you now stood in front of a map. Pagan stared at it for a bit with what you believed to be disdain before covering it up with his usual energy, speaking to you as he tapped it with a finger.

"Behold Kyrat my boy, your kingdom in all its glory."

Staring at the map and looking it over, you finally began to realize the job ahead of you if you accepted this. I mean for fucks sake apparently they were just north of the 'Valley of death', even the names sounded awful!

You turned to face Pagan, the big question finally getting past your lips. "Why do you care about me so much, why make me king all of a sudden?"

Pagan sighed, once again staring at the map with loathing. "Your mother and Lakshmana were the only good things I think this country has ever gave me, in all my years of ruling it. I took it while it was burning and all I've done with it is add gasoline, because then it seemed nothing mattered. Ajay my boy you are the last thing still remaining of Ishwari that keeps me going...and yes before you ask I understand how absurd that sounds." He rubbed some exhaustion from his face with a hand before turning to face you again. "I see your mother's spirit in you, you've certainly got her feistiness at least!" He gave a light chuckle as he rubbed his now fully settled in bruised cheek, wincing as he started speaking again. "I'm empty now I'm afraid, a well run dry. You however, I see great things in you! If you are even half as golden-hearted as your mother, then I know you can make a difference. Kyrat is negativity personified my boy, so much blood and tears soaked into the dirt it seems like that's all that can grow here. You however, I think you are just what this country needs."

You stood silent as you digested Pagans words, replying doubtfully. "How am I supposed to run a country, I barely passed high school!"

Pagan merely chuckled before replying. "Well nobody can judge you there my boy, math will always be a bitch! Besides I'm not looking for smarts, I'm looking for something nobody else in this shit-pile can bring to the table, empathy. Even the golden path won't help Kyrat, not really. Sabbal just wants some theocratic dictatorship, while Amita just wants a regular dictatorship...she can't even be bothered to put an original spin on it! You've already seen my issues, I don't really care about anything anymore, I've become quite the little basterd!" While he laughed you kept stewing in thought, remembering that you were essentially broke. No money to head home, not to mention no home to go back to in the first place. Somehow the only bit of stability you had now, was Pagan. Pagan Min, the man who was obviously a murderer and at least a tiny bit insane. Yet somehow balancing that was the fact your mother had loved this man, had a CHILD with this man...the man that declared you king.

Mom rarely spoke of home, but when she did it was always with regret and longing. You were a Kyrati as well of course, though at this point only in birth. You had no memories of this place, no clue about its culture, hell you didn't even speak Hindi!

Yet somehow you found yourself thinking on it, the idea festering. What else would you even do, crash on Pagans couch, try to start a farm to make a living? No matter what you did you were a little screwed here, so...may as well go all in.

"Fine...I'll do it, I'll be king."

Pagan grinned, somehow this one seemed much more real then the rest. "Lovely, let's get down to business then!"

Turn 1 2014 Jan-Mar
When Pagan said he had left a mess for you, he sure as hell wasn't lying. The two of you had spent the rest of the previous day just talking, about the past and the present state of kyrat.

Your stomach felt full of tar as you listened to Pagans description of the country, in a different circumstance you probably would have ended up shooting the man for his actions. Yet he is all you have now, shamefully you are to selfish to lose that. At the very least now your in control, while your no proper ruler at the end of the day you aren't going to try and actively make people miserable.

Even so as you looked over surveys and statistics papers, many of which were outdated by at least ten years because of fucking course they would be, you couldn't help but gulp at the task before you.

INDUSTRY/INFRASTRUCTURE: Near nonexistent
AGRICULTURE: Near collapse
CULTURE/RELIGION: Actively being destroyed/repressed
MILITARY: Excellent condition
HEARTS AND MINDS: Fear is all that keeps them in line, the outside world hardly acknowledges your existence

You had to blink multiple times just to be sure of what you were reading, before having to fight the urge to bang your head against a wall. "The entire economy, nearly all of our infrastructure, is just making heroine!" For fucks sake so many field's and buildings have apparently been turned to drug production, no wonder the people were starving!

Then there was the 're-education camps', not to mention the GULAGS! Anywhere that wasn't being used for drugs has apparently been used by the military, which appeared to be blatantly corrupt and sometimes even purposefully harming the people.

You were not a drinker, nor did you do anything in the way of drugs, both due to your mother's influence. Now however you were starting to really want to get drunk, for the first time in your life fetching a servant to go bring you a drink. You gave them a deep thanks, not missing how uncomfortable they seemed, before sitting back down to look over the papers again. With a sigh you took a swig of liquor that was probably the most expensive thing you've ever drank, before getting to work.

MILITARY: Your advisor for the military, one Yuma Lau, was apparently busy running a dig site in the Himalayas for some reason. The other closest thing to a military advisor you had, one Paul Harmon who you had the 'pleasure' of meeting earlier, was busy hosting a party in the 'city of pain'... because of fucking course there was one of those here. This means for now at least your on your own in these matters, though you wonder if maybe that's for the best.
(Choose one):

Finding competence: Seeing as your two official military advisors both seem crazy and are probably always going to be busy, perhaps it's best to find somebody else in the army to aid you. Preferably they wouldn't be insane, though after all you've seen so far you'd take anybody that wasn't a murderer. Time: One turn. Reward: Gain military advisor and +1 military action, quality of advisor depends on dice roll.

Looking for filth: It's obvious that the military is rife with corruption, along with people abusing their power to harm the people. While you can't just snap your fingers and make it all disappear, you can at least begin searching for the most egregious cases so you know where to start acting first. Time: One turn. Reward: Find worst cases of internal corruption.

Seek out their thoughts: Currently you don't know how the military feels about you being the new ruler, this means your in the dark which is almost always bad. These soldiers have been getting fed propaganda describing Pagan as the one true leader for several years, maybe even their entire lives. Getting some simple feelers out will at least allow you to know the general mood of the troops, which is better then nothing. Time: one turn. Reward: Understand the current view of the troops, discover any potential discontent.

AGRICULTURE: You don't really have an advisor for agricultural matters, at least not one you consider proper. Anything in the government that deals with animal and plant life seems to just be about growing opium or smuggling. Neither help the people feed themselves, so it looks like for now your on your own.
(Choose one):

I need a green thumb: Alright let's be for real here, you haven't a damn clue about agriculture or farming, you got a C- in biology and that's about as close to what you have in regards to knowledge on the subject. You need somebody that's going to help you put food in the peoples bellies, preferably without doing anything illegal. Time: One turn. Reward: Gain an agricultural advisor and +1 agriculture action, quality of advisor depends on dice roll.

Poor dirt, dirt poor: You need to do some surveying to see just what your working with here in regards to the food supply, along with understanding just HOW things have gotten so bad. Yes alot of viable fields are being used for opium, but that alone doesn't explain why the people are suffering so badly from hunger. Time: One turn. Reward: Info on current state of the food supply and why it's in pieces.

Drugged up: Maybe you should see just how much is being dedicated to this whole heroine operation, to better understand how deeply entrenched it is. Apparently it's the one thing keeping the economy afloat, besides the selling of stolen relics. If you want to put a stop to the process, you need to at least know how much is being made. Time: One turn. Reward: Learn about the opium/heroine operation and its effects.

INDUSTRY/INFRASTRUCTURE: Your alone here as well, mainly because the 'Ministry of revenue and social endowment' along with the 'Ministry of labor' are just the people running the work & re-education camps. You need somebody that's not just going to tell you to keep everything dependent on drugs and sending people to forcefully slave away in the gold mines, which means for now you get to do all this alone... joy.
(Choose one):

For want of a nail: It's time to get somebody who actually knows what the hell they're doing to aid you, seeing as you aren't exactly an engineer. Unfortunately Kyrat isn't known for its intellectuals, so realistically your probably going to have to hire a foreigner. Time: One turn. Reward: Gain an industrial/infrastructural advisor and +1 action.

Running on fumes: MORE surveys! You had no idea that running a country would need this much information gathering and statistics, but here you are! This time your essentially looking at the state of the economy, what little industry you have, along with the state of the nation's infrastructure. You already know its bad, it's easy to see how awful things are, but hard facts are still needed if action is to be taken. Time: One turn. Reward: Information on state of the economy, industry, and infrastructure

Lonesome town: Kyrat has no real towns or cities, instead the population is centered amongst various villages. As such its important to understand the state of these villages and the people who live within, as more then likely your efforts will be focused in them. Time: One turn. Reward: Understanding gained on the villages of Kyrat and their current state.

CULTURE/RELIGION: The closest thing you have to an advisor in this is one Noore Najjar, who surprisingly enough sounds like a pleasant person. The key word is 'sounds', your not going to view her as reliable until you get a meeting with them. At the very least you'll give her a shot, which means no looking for alternatives... yet.
(Choose one):

So... Kyra huh?: You need to deal with the cultural and religious issues in the nation. One issue though, your an ignorant American who doesn't know anything about said religion or culture. Before anything can be done to ease tensions, you need to learn what's causing them. Time: One turn. Reward: Basic understanding of Kyrati culture and religion

WAIT NO, STOP!: OK! Turns out Pagan has been ordering for any found religious artifacts or items to be destroyed or sold for money, before anything else you need to order for this to end. This is probably going to confuse the army, but you can't bring yourself to care at this point. Time: One turn. Reward: No more religious artifacts/items destroyed and stolen, cultural decay slows.

HEARTS AND MINDS: Propaganda, work camps, hunger, abuse from the military... yeah you've got alot to fix here. The people are either constantly terrified, brainwashed, or actively fighting the government. The Golden path... that's a giant mess you'll be dealing with for a while, though you desperately hope a peaceful solution can be reached. Your gonna need somebody to help you here, because this is one heavy work load. Unfortunately you can't just get somebody from the 'Ministry of Public Affairs and Social Harmony', because all they would tell you to do is use more posters. (Choose one):

A guiding hand: Time to find somebody that can give you useful advice, along with helping you deal with the near mountain of human rights violations that is Kyrat. Your not really good at negotiating or using words, as seen when you ended up bitch-slapping your step-dad. Instead your gonna have to find somebody to help you with speeches and diplomacy, otherwise you'd somehow end up inciting the third Kyrati civil war before the second even finished. Time: One turn. Reward: Diplomatic advisor and +1 diplomatic action, quality of advisor depends on dice roll.

Declaration!: First things first, your gonna have to reveal yourself as king to the public. This means getting a speech ready along with organizing things to get it broadcasted by radio and television, which surprised you because how the hell does anyone here have TV acces? Before you can start earning the peoples trust, they need to know you exist. Who knows, maybe this will even help cool things down with the golden path! Time: One turn. Rewards: Revealing yourself as king to the people of Kyrat, ???.

PERSONAL: Even if your leading a nation, it's important to have some time to take care of yourself. You refuse to become a slave to paperwork or legislation, your twenty-one and your gonna enjoy life while you can!
(Choose one):

Family bonding time!: So your last relative so to speak is Pagan, who's currently enjoying his retirement by lounging around the palace, flying around in his helicopter, and 'shooting some god-damn guns!' Now you still don't know what to think of the man, your relationship is so complicated that sometimes you want to hug the man while other times you want to shoot him to death. Maybe just maybe, if you set aside some time to just talk and learn about each other, you could become... something other then whatever THIS is. Time: One turn. Reward: Improved relationship with Pagan.

Bang bang!: So it turns out there's definitely gonna be some people who want you dead, that's a given. Pagans asked for you to head over to the palaces shooting range to better learn to defend yourself, which you suppose is a good idea. Time: One turn. Reward: Raised shooting skills for Ajay

General Sajit Tharu of the royal army is amazingly a perfectly well adjusted and stable man, something you believed an impossible sight after stepping into this country. Basic background checks show he was born in Tirtha before enlisting in the royal army just after Pagan came into power at the age of twenty, quickly rising in rank due to his natural talents for warfare. He's one of the biggest reasons the golden path has been pushed so far back in the south, remaining steadfast even now while in his late forties. He's also notably the one general who actively keeps his men in line, stopping them from pillaging or getting addicted to drugs. After some talks with the man, you think he'll make a fine advisor.
reward: Military advisor gained! +1 military action. Advisor trait revealed: Defender of the people, gain +5 to future army rolls and +10 to army reform rolls.

AGRICULTURE:

This time you didn't even have to look, they came to you! Bala Katwal is a rather energetic young man, who seems bright but not truly experienced. Bala is the third son of a Kyrati noble family, which would normally mean they'd get a cushy government job or be trained to join the royal gaurd. Bala however was deeply fascinated with biology and agriculture, imploring his parents to fund his dreams until he was able to get into an Indian college, then afterwards a university off of scholarship money. Now after recently returning to his home country he is eager to prove himself, hopefully he will do just that in your team.
Reward: Agricultural advisor unlocked! +1 agriculture action. Advisor currently has no traits, however they may be gained via action in the future.

INDUSTRY/INFRASTRUCTURE:

For want of a nail: It's time to get somebody who actually knows what the hell they're doing to aid you, seeing as you aren't exactly an engineer. Lena Webber is certainly an interesting case, a recent graduate from the Technical University of Munich in Germany. Admittedly she also wasn't your first choice, you had simply just started emailing promising engineers in need of employment... which wasn't exactly effective. Lena was picked because she was the first to not think you were a scammer and not immediately deny the offer after learning of Kyrat itself. This is by no means to say she isn't skilled, it's just that with your situation an open mind is needed just as much as a sharp mind. At the end of the day you payed for her flight into the country after discussing her salary and now you've got another brain to pick for advice.
Reward: Industry/infrastructure advisor gained! +1 Industry/infrastructure action. Advisor currently has no traits, however they may be gained via action in the future

CULTURE/RELIGION:

WAIT NO, STOP!: OK! Turns out Pagan has been ordering for any found religious artifacts or items to be destroyed or sold for money, before anything else you need to order for this to end. This is probably going to confuse the army, but you can't bring yourself to care at this point. Time: One turn. Reward: No more religious artifacts/items destroyed and stolen, cultural decay slows.
(Completed this turn)

Thankfully despite all the confusion caused by the order it was still followed, neither the royal army or royal gaurd are smashing and pawning relics anymore. This also means no more confiscation of those items, so the temples and shrines won't be looted after this at least. What's already in the custody of the army is being stored at Jalendu temple, where it will all sit until a decision can be made on what to do with it all. Unfortunately it's obvious that so much has already been sold or melted down, who knows how much history has been lost due to these acts. You can already feel a headache growing thinking on how your going to try and fix all of this, your definitely going to have to talk with Pagan about why the hell he went through with all of this in the first place.
Reward: No more artifacts/relics will be destroyed or sold by the government, new options available.

HEARTS AND MINDS:

A guiding hand: Time to find somebody that can give you useful advice, along with helping you deal with the near mountain of human rights violations that is Kyrat. Your not really good at negotiating or using words, as seen when you ended up bitch-slapping your step-dad. Instead your gonna have to find somebody to help you with speeches and diplomacy, otherwise you'd somehow end up inciting the third Kyrati civil war before the second even finished. Time: One turn. Reward: Diplomatic advisor and +1 diplomatic action, quality of advisor depends on dice roll.

Result quality roll: 100 (...you lucky basterds)

Chirasmi Bhandari is an enigma, especially seeing as he was just... in your office one morning. You admittedly freaked the hell out, wondering how this random man managed to get past dozens of armed gaurds, before he began to explain himself to you. You don't really even know how, but his voice was just naturally calming. Chirasmi has been a nomad for several years, traveling the world and experiencing all it has to offer before returning to his homeland a year ago upon having a 'vision' of great change. Apparently he believes YOU are what will bring this change, which is both flattering and freaky considering the man just admitted he got a premonition. Wierd or no, it's obvious the man is an amazing speaker, apparently also being capable of writing speeches for you. For some reason he refused any payment, offering his work for free due to you being a 'true son of Kyrat'. His experience should prove invaluable, as he has deep knowledge on Kyrat and its people. Now if only you could figure out how the hell he got into your office, not to mention how he disappeared from your office the second you turned around to fetch him a drink after you'd finished talking.
Reward: Hearts and minds advisor gained. +1 hearts and minds action. Advisor trait revealed: The art of the word, gain +10 on future rolls involving public opinion, gain +10 on future rolls involving societal reform.

PERSONAL:

Bang bang!: So it turns out there's definitely gonna be some people who want you dead, that's a given. Pagans asked for you to head over to the palaces shooting range to better learn to defend yourself, which you suppose is a good idea. Time: One turn. Reward: Raised shooting skills for Ajay

See interlude: Home on the range

(AN: I would be angry that the dice have been TOO favorable, but I know they will end up biting us in the ass later so for now it's fine.

Also, I know this probably sounds a bit ambitious for a story that's not even at 10k words yet, but from now on I'll be keeping a bounty board for Omakes, this by no means is a list of the only things you CAN write up, it's just a list of suggestions for things you could take a spin at.)

BOUNTY-BOARD:

Ashes to ashes: Ajay takes another trip to visit his mother and Lakshmana, mourning on what could have been now that he knows the truth.

Dust to dust: Ajay visits Jalendu temple to look over the gathered cultural/religious relics, intrigued by what he sees and brooding on what is lost.

Home on the range
Pvt. Tapadia was fairly average all things considered when one thought of a royal guardsmen, well trained, well equipped, and highly loyal. What was notable was that unlike most in the gaurd he was actually born in Kyrat, having worked diligently to earn his place.

He was incredibly grateful of course, to serve Kyrat and its king! The great Pagan Min, may his light shine upon us all! However, he couldn't squash the feelings of frustration he felt with his job. He along with a couple others, were tasked with keeping the royal palaces shooting range in top shape. Of course it was important, King Min was famous for his love of firearms, but no matter how much he tried he couldn't help but hold envy towards those who got to actually fight.

It was a well known fact within the armed forces that the Royal Army fought much more then the Gaurd, the Golden path having been kicked out of the north for years now. It perplexed him constantly, why the hell were they all up here while the Army, notorious for having its equipment covered in duck-tape, was doing all the fighting? He'd once heard a fellow guardsmen, one of the foreigners, say it was to make sure a coup wasn't possible by forcing the Army all south. It took all of his will to not slap the man right on the spot, for anybody to declare that the brave and loyal Kyratis of the Army would ever think of treason... it made his blood boil!

He sighed as he cleaned a rifle, knowing his anger changed nothing. Upon hearing a door open, he turned to see the new arrivals before immediately setting down the rifle and saluting. Before him was King Min and-!

... Ah, he remembered now. The reveal that Lord Min had passed his title of king to another had shocked him greatly, it took a while for him to even believe it! Then came something even more shocking, that the king was now Mogan Ghales son! It was mad! The thought alone would be seen as treasonous by many! Yet the king gave the son of Mohan every kindness, treated him as if it was always planned he would be the heir.

Eventually he sought out his elders for information on the subject, those who had retired from service and remembered a past he was to young to have seen. It took some pestering admittedly, along with some alcohol, but he found the truth.

Lord Pagan, in love with Mohans wife? Having a DAUGHTER with Mohans wife? It was preposterous! Yet the more he heard, the more it became obvious it was the truth. He could not and would not tell anyone else of this, as apparently it was a somewhat gaurded secret by the elders of the gaurd who were there to witness it.

it was still odd to see in person, staring at the pair as they stepped up to the range. He couldn't hear what they were saying, but he could tell there was a certain kind of joy upon Lord Mins face. He supposed it made sense, if King Ghale (his head hurt just thinking that) had lived with Lord Min for some time, then a bond must have formed. It did also admittedly make him chuckle internally that the foul Mohan had been cuckolded by his greatest enemy.

He shook himself out of this thoughts as he witnessed the young king pick up a pistol, watching with intrigue as it was looked over with the attention of somebody familiar with firearms. Eventually the King raised his weapon and fired, each shot hitting the target. Thank goodness nobody was facing him, or they would have witnessed his dumbfounded face! Each shot was well clustered, always at least near the bullseye. Before he could compose himself, the young king then picked up a rifle, aimed for a different target, and achieved the same results as before!

He couldn't help but continue to stare, enamored by the sight. He could see the smiling face of Lord Min from where he stood, surely they must have been proud of their heirs skill!

________________________________________________

"Ajay I mean in this in the most polite way possible, but what the fuck was that? You just about demolished the whole thing, I'd dare say your almost as good a shot as me!"

You rolled your eyes at Pagan finishing his compliment with praise for himself while releasing an amused huff, gently setting down the rifle you'd just unloaded. You took off the ear protection you'd put on while entering, before speaking with a grin on your face."Did you forget I've spent most of my life in America?" If there was one thing he was glad for, it was that Florida had prepared him for the insane wildlife of Kyrat.

Pagan chuckled before taking off his ear protection as well, though he gave an agitated sigh as he noticed his hair had been messed up."I'm glad you've got some experience then, you may just need it!"

You couldn't help but raise your brow at this, responding with confusion."Why's that? I know the Golden path need to be dealt with but aren't they in the south, away from here?"

Pagan smiled, however this was one of the pained ones you'd started growing accustomed to. "You see my boy, you know Yuma correct? She'll be coming back from her little escapade in the mountains at the end of the year and when she does, well... it might get a bit dicey."

Your confusion didn't leave you, if anything it only grew tenfold. "What's the issue, she's your second, if she wanted to get angry wouldn't she just yell at you over the radio?"

Pagan tapped his fingers against a wall, staring at the floor before giving you a look like a child who'd been caught with his hand in the cookie jar. "See that's the tricky part of it all, because I may have... not told her about all this?"

Well then. Shit.

________________________________________________

YOU HAVE TILL THE END OF TURN 3 TO PREPARE FOR YUMAS RETURN.

Ajay Ghale reveals trait: Talent for bloodshed, gain +5 to all combat rolls involving this character.

OMAKE BOUNTY BOARD:

Ashes to ashes: Ajay takes another trip to visit his mother and Lakshmana, mourning on what could have been now that he knows the truth.

Dust to dust: Ajay visits Jalendu temple to look over the gathered cultural/religious relics, intrigued by what he sees and brooding on what is lost.

You were, as people back in the states would call it, straight up not having a good time. Now when most people say that they typically mean they've just had a rough day at work, maybe they got a cold, etc etc. When YOU say that, you do so because apparently an insane woman from Hong-Kong is going to come down from the Himalayas in less then a year to probably murder you, because your mother slept with the tyrant of a third world nation which you were now the king of.

"God I need a drink."

You rubbed the exhaustion from your face as you stared down at the various reports you'd gotten from your advisors, thankful that at the very least you had a capable team to throw ideas at you.

________________________________________________

MILITARY: You think you definitely made the right choice picking General Tharu, especially seeing as your 'proper' advisor is most likely going to try and stab you in the chest. Tharu is nothing if not efficient at least, showing off just how the Royal Army still proved so effective while having much worse equipment compared to the gaurd. Right now he's mainly looking towards scrubbing down the army of corruption, along with looking towards Banapur with a glint in his eyes.
(Choose two):

Heart of the enemy: The village of Banapur is the last proper 'bastion' of the golden path, where they can walk openly and you have no control. Both Tharu and Katwal interestingly enough believe scouting missions in the area are a worthwhile investment, but for different reasons. Tharu simply wants as much information as possible for future military strikes, while Katwal looks at the land with a deep curiosity. For some reason Banapur and its surrounding area are capable of growing food just fine, the land being as normal as could be. The people there are still hungry yes, but they are the only ones that at the very least know they will have food always coming in. Some samples of the soil while scouts move to do reconnaissance shouldn't be to difficult to aquire, they could help in understanding the overarching issue regarding farmland. Time: One turn. Reward: Information on Banapur for future operations.

Magic bag of artillery: As it turns out, rebels without access to manufacturing facilities can't magically summon guns, who would have known! General Tharu is heavily suspicious that a foreign government or agency has been supplying the Golden-path, in an attempt to gain influence in Kyrat. The borders have been locked down tight since you entered the country, so these shipments should at least stop arriving, however the fact whoever these people are could be plotting still has you worried. Doing some investigations as to where these guns came from would be difficult, but may be worth the effort long term. Time: Two turns. Reward: Find out who's supplying the Golden path, begin cutting off supplies for them.

AGRICULTURE: Bala Katwal took one look at the official reports on the food situation and immediately seemed close to tears. At the very least he is extremely motivated to get started, currently focusing on gathering more information before proper action can be taken.
(Choose two):

Gone fishing: Turns out the lakes, rivers, ponds, etc, are all barren of fish besides one notable exception. The demon-fish is a large carnivorous fish that will even attempt and sometimes succeed in eating people, which is... not good. It seems that the civil wars, the demon-fish, and the desperate need for food ended up driving all other aquatic species to death. There are however some isolated areas that still have these native Kyrati species, which has Katwal rather excited. He's suggesting the royal army and gaurd purge the demon-fish, before breeding the non horrifying Kyrati fish to then stock the waters of Kyrat again. It will be a slow process overall, but the meat from the demon-fish purge should at least give a brief surge of food for the people before they can begin consuming the normal fish at a later time. Time: 1 turn. Reward: Purge of demon-fish, demon-fish meat handed to the people, unlock fish breeding/stocking project.

Man vs. Wild: Now normally you're firmly in favor of conservation and poaching would be abhorrent, but this is one hell of a unique circumstance. Kyrat is notably full of dangerous animal species that are thriving here, while in every part of the world they are endangered. There's tigers, wolves, leopards, bears... fucking HONEY BADGERS! The people rarely if ever dare leave their villages because if the war didn't end up getting you killed, you'd get mauled to death by an animal. With this your giving the green light for the royal army to start pushing these animals away from the population centers, while letting them be in the wilds. You don't want to kill these animals without proper reason, but if they are allowed to simply run wild around your people they will never be safe. Plus at the very least, this should give your citizens a momentary explosion in meat availability. Time: Two turns. Reward: Kyrati citizens no longer under threat from predators, brief surge in food from meat gained from the hunting.

INDUSTRY/INFRASTRUCTURE: Lena Webber almost walked out upon seeing what there was to work with and honestly you can't blame her, this is one hell of a project for a fresh graduate. She like the others is currently putting a focus on seeing exactly what's available to work on, however she did put some other projects forwards.
(Choose two):

Valley of nothing: The Valley of Death, which is the area to the south of the royal palace, is famous for by most accounts being absolutely worthless. It's to cold to do large scale farming, not to mention being ugly to look at. Barely anybody lives there and fewer people bother to give it any focus, even KEO due to not finding any veins of gold their back in the day. Lena however refuses to write the region off as worthless, believing that surely SOMETHING of worth lays within it. As such she suggests sending some teams over to check for potential mineral deposits, in the hopes of striking a future source of wealth.

Bleeding heart: Upon hearing that Kyrat had a singular location when it came to medical infrastructure, you wanted to throw a chair. When you learned the location was just a clinic without proper funding or equipment, you wanted to flip a table. Afterwards when you learned the clinic was currently controlled by the army while civilians didn't have access, you threw a chair AND flipped a table. It's time to fix this mess, both the clinic and the furniture you just tossed about. Set the army to gaurd the clinic and allow civilian access, throw it more funding, buy some equipment and supplies to make it less of a shit-pile, otherwise known as the basics that should have been done years ago. Time: One turn. Reward: People of Kyrat gain access to a clinic, Open-Hearts clinic is given more funding and equipment.

Catalog Kyrat: Well, now you've got a temple full of artifacts, relics, etc, and haven't a clue where to put them all. The unfortunate truth is that many temple's or shrines were in fact destroyed, or everyone running them killed. This means you'll have to think on who to give some of this stuff to, along with the task of sorting it all out. Thankfully some places of worship do remain, however they are almost always being at least slightly protected by the Golden path. For now all you can do is arrange everything in preparation for future projects. Time: One turn. Reward: relics in Jalendu temple sorted, projects unlocked.

HEARTS AND MINDS: Chirasmi Bhandari was no doubt the perfect choice for an advisor, which is starting to piss you off because you cant justify firing the man for randomly appearing in your office! Despite his repeated attempts to give you a heart attack, you nevertheless keep listening to his sound advice. Unfortunately he says your avenues are rather restricted until the people actually know you exist, but nevertheless he's put some proposals forward. (Choose two):

Declaration!: First things first, your gonna have to reveal yourself as king to the public. This means getting a speech ready along with organizing things to get it broadcasted by radio and television, which surprised you because how the hell does anyone here have TV acces? Before you can start earning the peoples trust, they need to know you exist. Who knows, maybe this will even help cool things down with the golden path! Time: One turn. Rewards: Revealing yourself as king to the people of Kyrat, ???.

Pose for the fans: As much as you dislike the idea of propaganda you know its unavoidable and highly useful, every person swayed away from the golden path is one less person you'd be forced to shoot. This means doing some meetings with the 'Ministry of Public Affairs and Social Harmony', as much as you loath the thought. At the end of the day this will just be you recording some speeches and talks to be broadcasted occasionally, along with working out what exactly you want your image to be. Maybe this will help the people deal with the transition of power from Pagan to you, though you know some people will probably just view you as another dictator. Time: One turn. Reward: Propaganda shifts from pro Pagan Min to pro Ajay Ghale, public opinion increases after reveal.

Paperwork? I'd rather a bullet!: Here it is, the archenemy, your greatest foe. You've been dreading this encounter for months, but now is the time for you to face your destiny! ... Alright fine, its learning Kyrati law! The country doesn't even really have a proper legal system, besides 'if you commit acts against the king you will be shot or forced to work', which for obvious reasons doesn't really work with you. This means not only do you have to read through a bunch of boring paperwork, you have to essentially write up laws from scratch! Months of writing and reading monotonous text are in front of you, staring at you from the abyss. The urge to bang your head against your desk or to run is strong, but for now you must resist. Time: 2 turns. Reward: Basic laws created, Ajay Ghale will wish for deaths sweet embrace!

Wait, did I forget something?: You feel a part of your soul die as you realize you still haven't put an end to the work camps and forced labor, being so swamped you never got to it. While you punch a wall in anger at your inaction, Chirasmi helpfully reminds you that wallowing will solve nothing. At the very least you will never forget now, it's time to put these horrors to an end. Let these people go, back to their homes and families. Under your rule no Kyrati will be a slave, let it be so. Time: One turn. Reward: End of forced labor in Kyrati work camps and mines. Increased public opinion upon reveal.

PERSONAL: Even if your leading a nation, it's important to have some time to take care of yourself. You refuse to become a slave to paperwork or legislation, your twenty-one and your gonna enjoy life while you can! Thankfully due to your advisors your workloads decreased, giving you some more time to spend however you wish.
(Choose two):

Family bonding time!: So your last relative so to speak is Pagan, who's currently enjoying his retirement by lounging around the palace, flying around in his helicopter, and 'shooting some god-damn guns!' Now you still don't know what to think of the man, your relationship is so complicated that sometimes you want to hug the man while other times you want to shoot him to death. Maybe just maybe, if you set aside some time to just talk and learn about each other, you could become... something other then whatever THIS is. Time: One turn. Reward: Improved relationship with Pagan.

More about Noore: It seems you've finally got time to meet with one of Pagans advisors, Noore Najjar. Good news is that so far from what you've heard she's the least insane, not to mention she's responsible for the management of Kyrats 3rd most profitable business after the drugs and the gold. The bad news is that said business is apparently a giant arena where people bet on other people killing each other while animals also get tossed in for fun, because for some reason all of Kyrats money comes from blood. At the very least you can maybe learn a bit about the woman through this meeting, maybe get another person in your corner. Time: 1 turn. Reward: Information and relationship with Noore created.

Yuma'kin me crazy!: OK so this lady is probably going to try and kill you, probably for the best you learn as much as you can about her to maybe see if you can speak reason to her or at least find a weakness of some sorts. You can't exactly ask her for her life story, so your going to have to make do with scrounging up reports and talking to Pagan some more about her. Time: One turn. Reward: Information on Yuma, increased chances for ???

Now your speaking my language!: While it turns out a surprisingly large amount of the population speaks English, it's probably for the best when it comes to your image that you start learning some Hindi. You wince knowing this will be hell, remembering so many failed papers in Spanish back in high-school. At the very least you'll have some skilled tutors to guide you through it, instead of Ms. Lopez and her very colorful vocabulary. Time: 2 turns. Reward: Can speak decently in Hindi, public opinion approved when/after reveal is made.

(AN: Hey gang, just wanted to leave a quick note to explain something. Here Kyrat is bigger then in game, mainly due to the fact that in game Kyrat would be a micro-nation due to the fact you can copter over the entire country in less then an hour. There is alot more land and to work with and etc, though rest assured named locations from the game will still be important.)

Turn 2 results
Plan chosen: I only look evil.

MILITARY:

Seek out their thoughts: The results you got back were certainly mixed, though nothing to surprising honestly. It seems the royal army accept you for the most part, being highly patriotic and accepting your position readily. The issue is found in the royal gaurd, who only really care about if they get payed or not. Your most well equipped force is substantially more likely to turn on you if the money runs dry, which is a sobering thought. Not to mention you think you may have sniffed out some guardsmen who have been swayed astray, not to the golden path, but to Yuma. It seems you got lucky though, a large portion of her guardsmen went on an expedition into the Himalayas and never returned, their fate being a widespread topic of gossip for many within the army.

Heart of the enemy: Banapur is rife with rebels, with people filtering in and out of the village via hidden paths your men have yet to find. It also paints an unfortunate picture for you, because the villagers all seem to be openly supporting them. Various people of interest were also spotted, including the leaders of the Golden path Amita and Sabal. Some generals put forward a plan to attack Banapur, that would essentially result in burning everything into the ground while killing everything that moves. You had to hold back an outburst before ordering them to discard the plan, internally fuming at the fact that this would be much more complicated then just a standard attack. You refuse to solve every problem with a bullet, much less a slaughter! At the very least you got the soil samples, but the results have Katwal PISSED. Reward: Information on Banpapur, new options for potential offensives.

AGRICULTURE:

Poor dirt, dirt poor: Katwal is red with rage when you meet up with him, as he rants on what he's managed to uncover. Somebody has been dumping MERCURY into the nation's water and soil, ruining large swathes of land when it comes to farming. Some quick investigation reveals that it was Yuma who gave such an order, which only adds another check on your long list of reasons to end her and quickly. The surveys are also rather dire, as most Kyrati citizens are eating one full meal a day or are on a starvation diet. Katwal estimates that if things don't change, in another generation or two Kyrat will become an empty nation.

Man vs. Wild: The Army takes to the task eagerly, bagging animals of all sorts while reveling in the action. Dens are cleared while the bodies are collected and transported on trucks towards the villages, where they recieve uncertain looks. Some believe the meat must be poison, however the desperate feast anyway. After the first to consume don't begin bleeding from their eyes or screaming in pain, the rest of the people join in the feast. Much of the meat is preserved for later, while the large amount of pelts are turned into insulated clothing and blankets. Farmers for once don't have to constantly worry about their livestock being torn into from all sides, meaning that for once a good portion of people have an at least somewhat secure source of food and revenue. Reward: Dangerous animals near villages culled, the people feast and rejoice, use of livestock grows.

INDUSTRY/INFRASTRUCTURE

[X] Running on fumes: Your fears are proven as is the obvious result of the surveys, everything is shit. Almost all of your money is coming from heroin production along with gold from the KEO mines, otherwise known as the forced labor camps. All of your existing industry is put towards these two pursuits, further increasing your dependency. Your infrastructure meanwhile is awful in most ways, your roads being poorly maintained gravel/dirt paths, along with having a near nonexistent acces to healthcare or education. Your communications infrastructure is almost entirely dependent on equipment held in crumbling bell towers, along with a couple freelance radio hosts. Then there's the last agitating fact, your country is split into two halves which are only connected by a singular bridge along with some tiny hiking routes. It's enough to make you want to scream, but at least you can now properly work towards something better. Reward: New projects available

Lonesome town: Kyrats population is currently concentrated within four villages, those being Utkarsh, Tirtha, Shanath, and Banapur. Utkarsh is the only proper village in the north, being entirely under your control. You don't need to worry about rebels, but the entire population lives in terror and is in a poor state. Shanath is a village built around an arena by the same name, currently being the most content village for all the wrong reasons. The population is full of gamblers, drug addicts, prostitutes, and those who have become infatuated with blood-sport. Tirtha is currently the poorest village, having come under the effect of a royal army raid right before you came into power. Much was looted and smashed, leaving the entire area in a sorry state. Then comes Banapur, the only village completely out of your control along with being the home of the Golden path. Reward: Information on the villages gained, new projects unlocked.

CULTURE/RELIGION:

So... Kyra huh?: Much time is spent being taught on Kyrati culture and religion by a monk who you managed to convince to speak with you, though they are obviously very paranoid. You believe you learn much, however some facts leave you wishing for ignorance.

To be continued in interlude: Faith and Fury

HEARTS AND MINDS:

Declaration!: It is time, to finally announce to the masses of your existence. One question remains however, what name will you speak to them?

CHOOSE:

Ajay Ghale - Keep your name and its truth

Ajay Min - Embrace Pagan as your father and redeem his name

Ajay [write in] - Something entirely new, free of past anchors

To be continued in interlude: Words of hope and hate

Pose for the fans: Before you can show off an image to the people, you must decide what you want that image to be.

Choose:

-Image of peace

-Image of progress

-Image of security

PERSONAL:

More about Noore: You certainly weren't exacting THIS thats for sure. To be continued in interlude: I'll do anything

Yuma'kin me crazy: With every line you read you can feel your stomach drop more, gazing at the proof that a level of madness you believed impossible did indeed exist. Yuma is a walking war crime and a talking human rights violation, mixed together with an obscene amount of blood-lust. She's been working with Pagan for years, even before Kyrat during his triad days. It seems the two have had a falling out though, for reasons your still in the dark about. Then is the fact she seems utterly obsessed with Kyrati religious sites, with various notes talking about 'Shangri-la' and 'Kalinag'. It paints a strange and frightening picture, but at the very least you've got more knowledge in preparation for the end of the year. Reward: Knowledge on Yumas activities, increased chance of success upon ??? roll.
