I was not able to get a second update today unfortunately, sorry guys. Hopefully I will manage to do better tomorrow. In the meantime you guys might want to think of how to deal with traps long term

Good night.

@Goldfish could Inge cast Eagle Eye for AoE surveillance? It would last 4 minutes, or is wasting the slot not worth it?
I don't think it would be worth using the spell slot. The chamber is only so high, after all, so at best it would give her a view of what it looks like from the ceiling down, and it doesn't give her any special visual acuity, so the lighting conditions, shadows, etc., would also be a hindrance. Simultaneously, while she is perceiving through the Eagle Eye spell's magical sensor, she might not be able to see using her eyes, and that might cause some confusion at a critical moment.

@DragonParadox, how large is this chamber? How high is the ceiling, and how does the lighting look? We have at least one lamp, plus Inge's Light cantrip to rely on. We can use a couple Sunrods for additional light if it would help. Also, does the view from Eagle Eye replace Inge's regular vision while she is using the spell?

  1. The chamber us about three hundred feet long and a hundred feet wide, though irregular in shape. You cannot see how high it is, though Zaia guesses that it might be a much as 200-250 ft with shafts of light coming from above
  2. As for eagle eye, yes, it moves her slight to the position of the sensor

  • [X] We really need a Rogue and/or a 10 foot pole.
-[X] If the chamber is potentially trapped, we will first attempt to trigger any hidden or disguised mechanisms using loose stones. We'll aim for anything that might conceivably be a trigger mechanism, or which might conceal one.
-[X] Inge will continue to observe the area using her Detect Magic and Detect Fiendish Presence cantrips.
-[X] Finally, if we cannot discover or otherwise disarm any hidden traps, Roland will carefully examine the area more losely, while affected by a Heightened Awareness extract plus the bonus from taking a drink of Zaia's Magian Wine (combined additional +4 bonus to Perception checks). Inge will ready an action to use her Fortune Hex on Roland if necessary.
--[X] If the lighting conditions, between our lamp(s) and Inge's Light cantrip, are not satisfactory, we will activate one or more Sunrods to increase light levels in the chamber before more closely inspecting it.

Arc 13 Post 21: Of Silver and Black
Of Silver and Black

Fifteenth Day of Elnu-Hamba (Elnu Descendent), 1349 A. L. (After Landfall)

Clink... clink... clink... the stones sound cannily loud in the dark, but they turn no leaver, they press no hidden plate of the sort you had seen in Ipsit's lair. Had you been too timid? Part of you wonders. If you had been alone or just in the company of Zaia you might have ignored caution and the riddles of the fey... but you are not just in his company. As Inge sits cross-legged trying to observe from above you tear into one of the shelves with the gauntlet of black iron until you have in hand a stout blank and then you start yo turn things over.

The first warning you get is a click and a hiss, the first as though you had struck metal and the second... like the sound of something struck with the vitriol Zaia wields. You let go of the tool in an instant and on sheer instinct lift your shield just as something flies at you from out of the dark, just as Inge calls a warning.... a moment too late.

You are poisoned: You take 2 Strength Drain

Before you can do more than curse in shock as much as pain Zaia stumbles back away from the trap and triggers yet another, how you would never know, but you can hear something heavy crashing down above. As you and Yom barely have the time to turn Inge shouts a warning, her voice echoing with knowing not her own: "Down!"

The scholar manages to throw himself to the ground just in time to avoid a great hammer of wood and ivory swinging like a pendulum from above that might have taken him right in the chest otherwise.

"Damn it all to the Devil's Asshole!" you curse, though thankfully only understood by Tom. "Is everyone in one piece?" you ask, ignoring the leaden feeling in your limbs. It's not like Zaia's going to have a cure to whatever the hell that was on hand.

It seems you had broken a jar of what alchemists call aqua forte and in the bargain you had tripped a trap that must have been set there with a purpose. Thankfully while the cloth kilt you had pulled up with the stick won't be good even for rags the sane cannot be said for the clay tablets that had been scattered nearby. Though you have only of late learned the signs of it you can see the hand that wrote them trembled, likes that aught to have been straight wavering, circles, spirals twisted as though by weak sight or uncertain mind.

Gingerly Zaia picks them up and starts to read: "Who am I? I remember the fog and the fight for the tower... I want to be a soldier, to earn glory and victory... no I am a cheat and a liar, I chose this, I want this.... the world will know my name.... I dream of black wings and of blood, of thunder under the trees... fear the Old Ones... fear their blood."

"It goes on like this," Zaia explains, sounding almost apologetic. "Rambling, like the author was not in his right mind, or if the lady Esha is right as if he was not all of one mind." Trailing a finger over the script under the torchlight he says. "Wait there is something here about needing to sleep outside, to clear his head... outside of what?"

So it is, following the trail of mad scrubbing that you come to the far wall of the cave where there lies hidden a door. So finely was is carved that the eye might have missed it even if you had spent a day doing nothing but peer at the stone, but as soon as you see it the fey grow excited: "You find it... he found it, they found it."

It seems too small a work. As you press the gauntlet into the wall again the path opens and you are greeted by a sight wondrous as it it eerie:

The chamber is circular and far lower than the one behind you, a thin shaft of light spills out at its center to spill onto a tomb not of stone but silver that gleams like the moon settled under the earth. You are not a man given to greed or so you like to think, but it is hard not to think that is probably worth more than all the wealth the Fellowship had managed to obtain put together.

"I think we found the place where the dead walk," Inge's voice is small, scared. "It shines with a great fire, brighter than anything I have ever seen."

"Well, let's look look inside then," Tom manages to force out, coming to his senses before you. He pushes aside the lid with a grunt of excretion. A slab of silver is as it turns out heavy.

The moment he does so a piece of living darkness surges out of the inside of the vessel as though to swallow him out in one horrid instant. Somehow Tom manages to roll out of the way, smashing against the far wall, even as Inge calls out a warning: "Jan Yian!" Life eater, in the tongue tongue of the Anwa.

Trapped inside its black mass, like a fly in amber you can see the stolen armor.

What do you do?

[] Write in battle plan

OOC: And here we are, the armor... also a CR 6 fight, you can also try to run, the thing is not as fast as a human.

@DragonParadox, Strength Drain or Strength Damage? Drain is permanent without high level magic that I don't believe is available in this setting.

Okay, this is dangerous, but we can handle it. The Ebon Ooze is slow and clumsy, and it has shit for an AC bonus along with a poor Reflex save.

We just need to avoid being struck by it, since it hits like a fucking truck.

[X] Kite It
-[X] Avoid engaging the Ooze in melee combat.
--[X] Rather than fighting it directly, everyone will quickly retreat from the side chamber, luring the Ooze into the much larger chamber where they will have more room to maneuver. Roland and Tom will focus on keeping Zaia and Inge away from the Ooze, distracting it if possible or outright picking them up and running away if necessary. Roland will use his Challenge ability against the Ooze as a matter of course.
--[X] At the first safe opportunity, Inge will target the Ooze with a Web spell. It may or may not contain the Ooze, but even if it doesnt, it should further slow it down at for at least one round. Whenever she gets a chance, Inge will target the Ooze with a Snowball spell, and if necessary to prevent an Attack on herself or others, she will use her Fortune Hex as needed. If Webs do prove effective, she will use them sparingly to hinder the Ooze and buy the group time to change positions and get to safety.
--[X] Zaia will target the Ooze with Tanglefoot Firebombs whenever possible and will consume his Mutagen at the first safe opportunity (+2 Natural Armor, +4 CON, -2 CHA). A regular Tanglefoot Bag will not affect a Huge-sized creature, but the greater area of effect of his bombs might overcome this issue. If not, and he has time, Zaia will drink a Targeted Bomb Admixture extract to remove the AoE component from his bombs in order to increase the single target damage.
-[X] This is the general plan for dealing with the Ebon Ooze, to kite it around the larger chamber while wearing it down with Fire Bombs and Snowballs. If necessary, Zaia will fall back on his regular Alchemist's Fire flasks of he runs out of bombs before the Ooze is defeated.

@Goldfish , is it probably worth to Roland use Challenge? Just in case.
Also I hope that Zaia used mutagen and Inge used Mage Armor. Also just in case.

There really isn't any good reason for Roland to use Challenge of we don't intend for him to try to engage the Ooze in melee, but I'll include it as a very Roland thing to do.

I assumed Inge and Zaia would both be Mage Armor'd up already, given the long duration of the spell. That's the kind of preparation that would be basically automatic before doing something dangerous, such as Roland setting out to examine the larger chamber. Is that all right, @DragonParadox? If not, I'll include it in my plan as well.

As for the Mutagen, it's duration isn't quite long enough that Zaia would use it that far ahead of time, IMO. I'll go ahead and add that to my plan now.

You guys might also want to think about what to do with the solid silver sarcophagus, that thing is very valuable, but on the other hand you did find it under someone's palace.

Does Inge mean that the silver sarcophagus is magical here?

If not, I would propose to Aina that we discretly take it apart and melt it down.
The fellowship gets a nice bit as payment for our merc-work here, the rest goes to Aina's state treasury.
She'll propably need it, she still has a lot of warriors who followed her and then didn't get to loot much.

I'm not sure if it's preferable to pay off those people, or pay local warriors to stay loyal and keep the foreigners from taking their plunder by force, but either is better than letting the situation of having lots of strangers in arms on her island continue.
