Strange Bedfellows
Thirty Fifth Day of Ikomi-hamba (Ikomi Descendant) 1348 A. L. (After Landfall)
"Once, at the age of manhood, to truly become one before the wars and Crusade took me beyond the touch of Christian lands," it feels strange to admit it, almost shameful, not that you think Antonio Giustiniani of all men would judge you for the sin, but quite the opposite. It feels almost as though you are admitting to some monkish inclination, which you know some men might find the butt of jests. "I admit it was... pleasurable, but nothing more than that, and I wish for more than simply that with any I would lay with."
In place of laughter and mockery Antonio offers an odd look. "Well, you are certainly on the right path if you seek for
more. If you will have the advice of a dissolute sailor, be wary of what sort of
more you'd be getting."
He means Esha... you realize, and you do not know whether to be grateful or to glare at the man.
"Women are trouble enough when they've had decades to be set in their ways, never mind centuries."
Definitely a glare, though you cannot bring yourself to put too much heart into it. Antonio clearly cares enough to give honest advice, no matter how little you might think of it

Once you are back at the keep you bring those of your men who had been cursed by Isele's last song together in counsel and put before them the offer Serik had made, mentioning nothing of its cost lest that sway them to accept it so as not to cost you the egg without profit. Pete is the first to speak, a wide smile on his face:
"Best cure for drowning there ever..."
"Keep a fair tongue in your head or I'll tear it out by the root!" Tom growls, though he isn't looking at the man, but at Hugh.
"I don't... that is... I can't.... Isn't there another way?" the youngest of those cursed soldiers all but wails and you are ashamed to admit that along with pity you feel a touch of relief that you are not the only one who finds this the offer distasteful and as awkward as wrestling a greased pig.
"There are many ways to break such curses, none that we now here possess, but Moru with whom we sailed with and who is still in Apuku claimed to have some means to burn them away and he was honest in all our dealings. As well as that the spirit of fire who dwells in the holy caves of the Danuk is able to break a curse near to death upon their chief. If you do not wish to go to the Temple of Ashinu and by their arts be healed than so it shall be."
"The Danuk?" Hugh boggles. "Mort, that's a long way away from here. Will be we be going that way then?"
"The matter isn't settled one way or the other, but I won't lie to you and say another answer is right around the corner, " you sigh. "Curses are a tricky thing, death curses more than most."
"How do we know this fellow can break the curse like he says he can then?" John speaks up for the first time.
"Because all those with second sight can see it, even Silver, so if he lies about it we'll know and we'll spread the tale," you reply quickly. "That wouldn't serve him very well, now would it?"
From the look in his eye you suspect John had guessed that you had agreed to pay the priest of Ashinu something, but he does not say anything, perhaps guessing the reason for it also. "I'll be holding off on it as well if that's well with you, milord. Don't want to lay with no woman I've not laid eyes on before, least of all under a heathen roof."
"And that leaves me then..." Tom trails off, unsure as you have rarely heard him. He is silent for a stretch, then finally nods. "I'll do it."

Thirty Sixth Day of Ikomi-hamba (Ikomi Descendant) 1348 A. L. (After Landfall)
Only a day later you ride back to the city along with Pete and Tom, the stone egg in a small case securely tied to Silver's saddle. They go into the temple around noon, leaving you to stand in uneasy vigil waiting for their return, in part wanting to know what is happening inside and in part happy for your ignorance. Finally, as the sun sinks slowly into the west behind the wooded hills of the Coibeinn that stand between the city and the steppe, they come out garbed in brown and green robes, as well as freshly washed, but looking otherwise unharmed.
Silver's eyes flash with a spark of hidden fire: "There's no curse on them anymore, no magic at all."
As you hand off the stone egg in its case you hear Pete says: "So we get to keep these robes, right? I wonder how much they would sell for."
The three of you ride in silence back to the Koire manse, it being too late to ride out of the city without pressing need now. On the morrow you should have some time at the markets since Antonio plans to sell the golden foil off by reason of it likely being worthless to a magician without the egg.
Tom and Pete are no longer cursed.
