Greetings Citizen #815165! Welcome to the First day of the rest of your life! Please report to WAB #451AIR1 and receive the choices for your next Long-term Work Assignment. Glory to the United Americas!
You heave a great sigh, grab your coat and head to the Work Assignment Bureau as instructed. The particular office you are assigned to is two hours away from where you live by car. Shit. You dislike long trips when you are a passenger, even more so when you are behind the wheel. Your anxiety is not pleasant to bare for two hours straight but it's this or lose your food and shelter benefits. When you get to the office and open the door, what greets you are grey walls, a middle-aged women with the wrinkles of a woman twice as old as herself, a tall desk she sits behind, and nothing else. You say hello, hand her your ID card, and plan on making pleasant small talk while she gets your papers organized but find you have nothing to say. She hands you a form with 3 choices of jobs, each with a small description of what they are. However, you are aware of the most important details not from the form but from your friends who worked these jobs in the past and some books written about them.
As you look over them, you realize that these are extremely few hours you're being asked to give. You are given the same amount of resources as long as you are employed by WAB jobs, so you won't have to worry about starving for lack of hours. Maybe your parents had something to do with that?
At any rate the choices are:
[] Item Distributor for Spare Food Center #421AVR: This job involves distributing food to the unemployed (who are also de facto homeless, every single one) who visit the Spare Food Center. You're actually not sure why this job exists. What's the point of giving someone food but not also shelter? Your job involves mathematics as well: Each item is scanned before being given out and a client can get a maximum of only 1000 calories worth of food per day per individual. This job requires only 10 hours of work per week!
[] Item Organizer for Public Library #235DOM: The library isn't actually public. The "public" refers to books that have been officially published as opposed to "private" books, which have no publisher. The job involves organizing the books into shelves, and occasionally destroying them.
[] Dishwasher for Food Center #413OD: Regular Food Centers are a little like cafeterias or food courts before the Restoration. This is a stressful and physically intensive job. In addition, it's one of the jobs that can legally require you to work for more hours than your stated time! The reason why you're still considering this as an option is because Food Center jobs are also known to be one of the only jobs where "idle chatter" is permitted between workers. As a result, it's one of the only jobs where it's possible to make friends with your fellow workers.
After you indicate your choice you sign your name and prepare for the first day of the rest of your life:
